Mr. H.T. Register
Graveside funeral services for Mr. H.T. Register, age 80, of Wadley were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Treutlen County.

Mr. Register passed away late Saturday night, Oct. 13, 2007, following an extended illness.

Stanley Funeral Home of Wrightsville was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Hilda C. Pittman
Mrs. Hilda C. Pittman, 72, entered into rest Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Trinity Hospital.

Mrs. Pittman was a native of Evans County, and had lived in Augusta since 1958.

She is preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Malissia Cooper and her brother Curtis Cooper. Survivors include; two sons Chris Douglas Pittman of Hephzibah, and Chester W. Pittman of Mitchell; one daughter, Pamela Pittman Coleman of Hephzibah; four sisters, Edna Hix, of Rome, Jeanette Walling of Jesup, Alice Waters of Claxton, and Ava Nell McGlashen of Glennville; nine grandchildren, Robert Herndon, Jason Coleman, Michelle Usry, William Usry, Robert Bridges, Angelica Pittman, Chasity Thomas, Miranda Pittman, Ariel Pittman and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association 2050 Walton Way, Ste. 208, Augusta, Ga. 30904.

Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Platt River Brown Jr.
Mr. Platt River Brown Jr., 87, formerly of Bartow died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, in the Legacy House in Ocala, Fla.

Mr. Brown was born Feb. 12, 1920 in Bartow, a son of the late Platt River Brown Sr. and Alma Williams Brown. He served for 25 years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He belonged to the VFW and American Legion in Lake City, Fla.

Graveside services with full military honors were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, in the Bartow City Cemetery with Rev. Ed Dean officiating.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna R. Brown; a brother, Williams J. Brown; sisters, Lucille Thomas and Evelyn Brown.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Ann (Dennis) Saley of Homestead, Fla., and Kay (Jim) Ivan of Grove City, Ohio; one son, Platt Warren (Judy) Brown of Crossville, Tenn.; four sisters, Betty Sue Goodwin, Ruby Thomas and Grace Livesay, all of Louisville, and Agnes Sykes of Stafford, Va.; two grandchildren, Jim Ivan Jr. and Mary Anna Abele, four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Richard Abele, and Haley and Kayla Ivan, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Dean David Bruyere Jr.
Mr. Dean David Bruyere, Jr. entered into rest Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at University Hospital.

Mr. Bruyere was born in Augusta, was a member of the Amateur Poker League and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. at Bellevue Memorial Gardens with Bishop Timothy Tippett officiating.

Dean was preceded in death by his father, Dean David Bruyere, Sr.

Survivors include one son, Dean David Bruyere, III, Martinez; mother, Margaret Gatliff, Gibson.; stepmother, Ma Trish McDuffie, Martinez; two brothers, Bernard Carl Bruyere, Edgefield, S.C. and Tracy Lynn Bruyere, Sr., Hephzibah; one sister, Jenny Vintson, Martinez; one stepbrother, Rodney Young, Martinez; one stepsister, Doris Johnson, Hephzibah; maternal grandmother, Margaret P. Black, Augusta; maternal grandfather, James M. Black, Augusta; paternal grandmother, Virginia Bruyere, Clinton, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the family.

Mr. Arnold L. "Ronny" Byrd
Mr. Arnold L. “Ronny” Byrd, 54, of Stapleton entered into rest on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Byrd was born in Dalton, and was an Army veteran. He was an Iron worker by trade.

No services were held.

Survivors include his wife Georgia J. Byrd, daughter Stevie and son Ronny, all of Augusta; daughters Cindy Clark, El Paso, Texas and Janey Herrin, Appling; stepson Raymond Gregory, New Orleans, La.; two sisters Phyllis Byrd Warren, Stapleton and Susan Byrd Byars, Gaffney, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Starling Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. William Cullen Cash
Mr. William Cullen Cash, 57, the son of Frances Cash Bradley and his father late Eugene Cash, entered into rest Monday, Oct. 1, 2007.

Mr. Cash was a Baptist and former policeman and a truck driver.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at James Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Walden officiating. Burial followed at Jefferson Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Mr. Cash was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar Cash.

His family includes his children: a son, Kevin Cash and a daughter, Jody Cash, both of Conyers; three brothers, Eugene Cash, Seneca, S.C., Augustus (Christine) Cash, Wrens, Joseph (Tammy) Cash, Gibson; four sisters, Carolyn (Carl) Newsome, Warrenton, Dandell Cranford, Thomson, Martha (Cicero) Guy, Gibson, Denise McCuan, Perry.

Pallbearers were Chase Braswell, Jason Cash, Christopher Cash, Carl Newsome Jr., Cary Cranford, and Rick Hopper.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, Ga. 30909.

James Funeral Home of Wrens was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Ardy Ezra Dixon
The funeral service for Mr. Ardy Ezra Dixon will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Mays Grove Baptist Church in Wrens.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother, Mabel Dixon, 12248 Middleground Rd., Louisville.

Garrer Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. David Clark
Mr. David Clark, 60, of Louisville, died Monday morning, Oct. 8, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Clark, a native of Jefferson County, was a truck driver and a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church in Bartow.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. at Old Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Sauls officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Betty S. Clark of Louisville; two daughters, Pamela C. (Jason) Handy of Wadley and Kelli C. (Robby) McNair of Gibson; grandchildren, Bailey M. Handy and Brylie E. Handy of Wadley and Mason C. McNair of Gibson; two brothers, Raymond F. (Sherry) Clark Jr. of Evans and Kenneth E. (Patty) Clark of Bogart; and two sisters, Donna C. (Bill) Miller of Wadley and Lisa C. (Russell) Ritch of Martinez.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 515 Denmark St. STE. 500, Statesboro, GA 30459.

Mr. Lester Talmadge "Tal" Fennell Jr.
Mr. Lester Talmadge “Tal” Fennell, Jr., 79, entered into rest at Trinity Hospital Sept. 30, 2007, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Fennell was a native of Laurens County and a resident of Augusta for the past 29 years. He was a past Master Mason and a 50-year member of Dublin Masonic Lodge; he was a Deacon Emeritus Sunday school teacher, former Treasurer and previously active in youth activities at National Hills Baptist Church in Augusta. He retired from C.C. Dickson of Augusta. He was employed with Platt’s Funeral Home in Augusta for the past 11 years.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. in the Belair Road Chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home with Dr. Kevin Steele officiating. Interment followed in Northview Cemetery in Dublin at 3 p.m.

Mr. Fennell was predeceased by his parents, Lester Talmadge, Sr. and Mae Neuman Fennell; his first wife of fifty eight years, Doris Thigpen Fennell; and a daughter, Bonita Fennell.

Survivors include his wife Shirin Jordan Fennell; two sons, Mitchell Talmadge Fennell and his wife Nena of Snellville, John Michael Fennell and his wife Martha of Macon; three brothers, Herschell Steve Fennell and his wife Nona of Greensboro, N.C., Henry Franklin Fennell and his wife Caroline of Warner Robins, and Alfred Tennyson Fennell of Athens, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Tissy Fennell of Bartow; four grandchildren, Michael Loren (Ivy) Fennell of Ringgold, John Matthew Fennell of Macon, Meredith Lauren Fennell of Snellville, Allison Paige Fennell of Snellville; stepchildren, Pam and Robert Harwood and children, Lindsay, Leigh Ann, and Jordan of Augusta, Steven and Pam Jordan and daughter, Shana Barden of Augusta; one aunt, Mazie McMullan of Dublin; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be National Hills Baptist Church Deacons and the Sam Hardy Sunday School Class.

If so desired, memorials may be made to National Hills Baptist Church Building Fund, 2725 Washington Rd., Augusta, Ga. 30909.

Mr. Jimmy C. Haywood Sr.
Mr. Jimmy C. Haywood, Sr., 67, entered into rest on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at University Hospital, after a short battle with cancer.

Mr. Haywood was born in Glascock County to the late Hubert and Dorothy Dixon Haywood, but lived in the Midland Valley area all of his life. As a young man, he worked for Graniteville Company, then he worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass for 15 years before becoming an owner and operator of a trucking business with his wife for 10 years. Mr. Haywood managed and owned a mobile home park for 28 years before selling it to retire in 2005.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. in the Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Joe Youngblood and Rev. Roland Smith officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mrs. Martie Silvio Haywood; a daughter, Cindy Haywood Bhatia, Atlanta ; a son, Jimmy C. Haywood, Jr., Athens, Ala.; five grandchildren, Michael Bhatia, Christina Bhatia, both of Atlanta, Jessica Haywood, Sean and Joshua Haywood, Athens, Ala.; and many aunts and cousins.

Pallbearers were Johnny Bessinger, Bobby Kight, Dick Snyder, Bobby Agner, Joel Hicks and Barney Hicks.

Honorary pallbearers were his brothers-in-law, John F. Silvio, Michael Silvio, Timothy Silvio, Rocco Lodise and Brian Carroll.

Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, S.C., was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Michael Brandon Brown
Mr. Michael Brandon Brown, 19, of Gloverville, S.C., entered into rest Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at his home

He is the beloved son of Teresa Gail Bush Brooks (David) and Michael Todd Brown (Cindy). He was born in Augusta, but had been a resident of Aiken County, S.C., for most of his life. He was a 2006 graduate of Aiken High School and was currently employed at Solvay, Augusta. He was a member of Bel Air Baptist Church, Augusta.

In addition to his parents and step-parents, family members include a sister, Jessica Andrews (Red), Augusta; brothers, Timothy Brown, Warrenville, S.C. and Racy Bradford, Washington; grandparents, Ruelene Brown (the late Tim), Warrenville, S.C., Katherine Taylor (Fred), Keysville, George Bush (Jackie), Leesville, S.C., the late Rosemary Proctor, Mack and Mary Brooks, Matthews, the late Annie Brown, Carliss Taylor, Eloise Brooks, Matthews, and Selma Busbee, and “Me-Maw” and “Pa-Paw, ” the late Dollie and Paul Lamb; and a girlfriend Amanda Day, Trenton, S.C.

Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Langley, S.C., with Pastor Albert Stroup officiating. Interment followed in Langley Cemetery, Langley, S.C.

The family has asked that memorials in memory of Michael be made to Bel Air Baptist Church, c/o the Building Fund, P.O. Box 14743, Augusta, Ga. 30909.

Pallbearers were Travis Rhiner, Jeffery Rhiner, Kevin Hudson, Brandon Hudson, Jason Courtney, and Scottie Crump.

Mrs. Rhonella "Nell" Scott Cullars
Mrs. Rhonella “Nell” Scott Cullars of Swainsboro died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, in Milledgeville.

Mrs. Cullars was born in Emanuel County and was the wife of the late James Dewitt Cullars. She and her husband owned and operated the Sears store in Louisville for 15 years. She was a member of Blundale Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. at Blundale Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Archer and Rev. Paul Curry officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dellwood.

Survivors include her son James (Joyce) Glenn Cullars of Milledgeville; daughter Debra (Tom) C. Sifford of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren, Kassi (Dan) Cullars Mottley, Cary Cullars, Kimi (John) Cullars Clements, Kyle (Debbie) Cullars, Rhett Sifford and Reid Sifford; 18 great-grandchildren; sister Pauline Scott Covenah of Rincon.

Tomlinson Funeral Home, Swainsboro, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ms. Gwendolyn Elaine Tebow Gilreath
Ms. Gwendolyn Elaine Tebow Gilreath, 42, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at her home.

Ms. Gilreath was born in Augusta to Jean Crowder Athearn and Donald Gene Tebow. She was a cashier at Cumbee’s Store in Augusta. Ms. Gilreath was a member of Berean Baptist Church.

Funeral services were at 1 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, from the Chapel of DeLoach Kennedy Funeral Home in Hephzibah. Interment services followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

In addition to Ms. Gilreath’s parents, she is survived by her daughter, Jessica Jean Gilreath; three sisters, Rebecca J. Whitener of Hephzibah, Elizabeth F. Tebow of Waynesboro, and Lillian L. Larkin (Douglas) of Reston, Va.; two brothers, Ricky Athearn (Kathy) of Louisville and Michael Athearn (Shauna) of Thorpe, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

DeLoach Kennedy Funeral Home, Hephzibah, was in charge of the arrangements.
