Betty Ruth Means
Mrs. Betty Ruth Means, 76, of Louisville died Tuesday, July 31, 2007.

Mrs. Means was a life-long member of Waldens United Methodist Church where she served as musician and teacher.

She was a retired teacher.

She is preceded in death by her husband Grady Means.

The funeral was Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. at Waldens United Methodist Church with Dr. Bob Martin and the Rev. Tom Edwards officiating.

Burial was at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Nelson) Hunter; a granddaughter, Melanie Hunter; a sister, Elsie (Charlie) Davis, Avera; two brothers, Buddy (Wilma) Martin, Bartow, Fla., and Bob R. (Jama) Martin, Newnan. Pallbearers were Bryan Davis, Eddie Martin, Buford Manning, David Sheppard, Wayne Means, Terry Means and Richard Sheppard. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Lamb, Helen Brown, Jean Huddleston, Alma Williams, Helen Landrum, Linda Howard, Margaret Rooks, Gary and Diane Rhodes, Glynn and Norman Wallace, Louie and Juliette Grimaud, and T.W. and Sara Bentley.

Memorials may be made to The Lydia Project, 1321 Arsenal Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Linda Swann Newsome Smith
Mrs. Linda Swann Newsome Smith, 52, of Gibson died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007.

Mrs. Smith, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Waldens United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her father Joe Braddock, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Williford.

A memorial service was held Aug. 3 at 4 p.m. at Walden’s United Methodist Church in Avera.

Survivors include her husband, James Monroe Smith; one son, Scott (Tangy) Newsome, Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Brittany and Danielle Carson and Shelby Newsome; mother, Vivian Braddock, Gibson; three sisters, Mitzie Braddock, Gibson, Tamela (Brian) Wells, Blythe, and Nicole (Mark) Brown, Avera; and two brothers, Joe (Emma) Braddock, Avera, and Glynn (Denise) Braddock, Gibson.

Memorials may be made to the Linda Smith Memorial Fund, c/o Sheppard Funeral Home, 57 College Place, Gibson, GA 30810.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Andrew Timothy Tyner Jr.
Mr. Andrew Timothy Tyner Jr. of Louisville died Tuesday, July 31, 2007.

Mr. Tyner attended Jefferson County High School.

He was a member of Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church.

The funeral was Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia Tyner of Louisville; father, Andrew Timothy Tyner Sr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Krishayla (Eric) Simpson, Augusta, Lashun Tyner, Lakasha Tyner, and LaTasha Tyner, Louisville; maternal grandmother, Georgia Stone, Louisville; and several other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Anna Maude Arrington
Mrs. Anna Maude Arrington, 83, of Wadley died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley.

Mrs. Arrington, a native of Baldwin County, lived most of her life in Jefferson County where she was a member of Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church.

She was retired as secretary of the New York Rubber Company and was widow of the late James S. Arrington.

The funeral was July 31 from the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home with Elder Emerson Proctor officiating.

Burial was in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include a sister, Faye Fennell, Wadley; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Jimmy Smith, David Smith, Gary Smith, Stephen Smith, Ricky Fennell and Jeff Fennell.

Johnson Funeral Home, Swainsboro, was in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Lee “Sonny” Davis
Mr. Willie Lee “Sonny” Davis died July 14, 2007, in Gulfport, Fla.

Mr. Davis was a native of Jefferson County but had lived in Florida for several years.

He was the son of the late Isaiah Davis Sr. and Mary “Flang” Davis.

The funeral was July 28 at Jones Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Dudley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include four daughters, Rosalind Davis, Boston, Mass., Shirley Davis, Miss., Sheila (Ben) Wheelker, Augusta, and Christine Davis, St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, Willie L. Davis Jr., Cairo; three sisters, Willie M. Davis, Augusta, Catherine Fields and Carol Whitfield, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, Isaiah Davis Jr., Philadelphia, Pa., a very special friend, Lillie M. Presley, St. Petersburg; aunt, Willie M. Habersham, Wadley; uncle, Jim Loyd Sr., St. Petersburg; and several other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ada Wells Floyd
Ms. Ada Wells Floyd, 64, of Wrens died Monday, July 23, 2007.

The funeral was July 29 at 2 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Abraham Gibbons officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Lavette (Corcell) Hudson, Thomson, and Laverne Floyd, Augusta; two sons, Ulysses (Patricia) Floyd, Wrens, and Andre Floyd, Sanford, Fla.; one sister, Jennie Gamble, Louisville; two brothers, Jonas (Suzanne) Wells, Louisville, and Oscar Thompson, Louisville; and six grandchildren.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret Rose Kcraget Hall
Mrs. Margaret Rose Kcraget Hall, 75, of Wadley died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at Glendale Nursing Home.

Mrs. Hall, a native of Chesterfield County, Va., had lived here since 1975. She was retired from Allied Chemical Corp.

She attended Calvary Baptist Church and Ivey Memorial Methodist Church, Colonial Heights, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband George Marcus Hall; a daughter and son-inlaw, Margaret Ann and Curtis J. Sheffield; a brother, William S. Kcraget; and a sister, Tina K. Houle.

Funeral services were July 28 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Franklin Sasser officiating and July 31 at 11 a.m. at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home in Colonial Heights, Va. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester Va.

Survivors include a son, Robert E. Richardson Jr., Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Sandra R. Robertson, Wadley; three brothers, John O. Kcraget, Colonial Heights, Va., George K. Kcraget and Charles R. Kcraget, Chester- field County, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy K. Morgan, Colonial Heights, Va., and Natalie K. Osborne, Chesterfield, Va.; friends. Gail and Richard Dudley, Wadley; and two grandchildren.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bonnie Williams Harrison
Mrs. Bonnie Williams Harrison of Augusta died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Harrison was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta area.

She taught school for 37 years and taught at Evans Elementary School for the past 23 years. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, a member of Warren Baptist Church and the Sorrells Sunday School Class.

The funeral was July 29 at 3 p.m. at Warren Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd M. Harrison III officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd M. Harrison II; a daughter, Amy Harrison (Danny) Kittrell, Columbia, SC; a son, Floyd Montgomery Darlene) Harrison III, Rocky Mount, Va.; brothers, Robert Taylor (Linda) Williams, North Augusta, SC, and Clinton Walter (Kathy) Williams III, Gibson; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Danny Kittrell, Bobby Williams, Frank Harrison, Robert Bargeron, Chris Alford and Gary Dixon.

Memorials may be made to Susan B. Korman Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 370, Dallas, TX 75244; or to the University Hospital Women’s Breast Health Center, 1350 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30901.

Rufus D. Hodges Jr.
Mr. Rufus D. Hodges Jr., 79, of Ailey died Sunday, July 29, 2007 after several years of declining health caused by Alzheimer’s disease.

A memorial service will be held Aug. 5 at 3 p.m. at College Hill Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Hodges; and a daughter, Carol Hodges of Savannah. Mr. Hodges was the brother- in-law of the late Claire Irwin of Louisville.

Fairhaven Funeral Home & Crematory, Savannah, is in charge of the arrangements.

George Brown Sr.
Mr. George Brown Sr. of Wrens died Thursday, July 26, 2007.

The funeral was Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. at Springfield AME Church with the Rev. Michael Ephraim officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ada Lee Brown; three sons, Ervion (April) Brown, Brentwood, Calif., George Brown Jr., Norcross, and Timothy Curtis, Augusta; a daughter, Shannon Carter, Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Florine (Lamar) Jones and Freddie Lee Jordan, Wrens, and Claudia Ann (Eugene) Mills, Atlanta; three brothers, Johnnie Brown, Sylvania, Roy Brown, Wrens, and Garvin (Rosemary) Brown, Augusta; a good friend, Becky Robinson; and five grandchildren.

Maggie Smith Heidt
Mrs. Maggie Smith Heidt of Augusta died Tuesday, July 24, 2007.

Mrs. Heidt was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Mamie Hines Smith; her husband, Samuel Branch Heidt; and her brothers, Clancy, Martin and Branson Roberts.

She spend her childhood on Victory Farm near Bartow then moved to Wadley and graduated from Wadley High School.

She was active in Wadley United Methodist Church and following her move to Waynesboro, in the First United Methodist Church there.

She was active in the Pink Lady’s Auxiliary at Burke County Hospital.

In her later years she lived in St. John’s Tower in Augusta and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

The funeral was July 28 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of DeLoach- Kennedy Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary DeMore officiating.

Graveside services were at 3:45 p.m. at Bartow City Cemetery. A memorial service was held July 30 at St. John’s Tower at 2 p.m.

Survivors include her son, Samuel Branch (Janice) Heidt, Houston, Texas; daughter, Mary Heidt (Jim) Wasiela, Lanexa, Va.; four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Jesse S. Huddleston
Mr. Jesse S. Huddleston, 87, of Wrens died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Trinity Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Huddleston, a native of Putnam County, Tenn., was the son of the late John B. Huddleston and Mary Huddleston.

He had lived locally for the past 55 years.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and lifetime VFW member.

He was a member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau.

He was also a member of Waldens United Methodist Church where he had served on the Administrative Council, was a trustee, steward and choir member.

The funeral was July 28 at 11 a.m. at Waldens United Methodist Church with the Revs. Doug Mays and Tom Edwards officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Jean C. Huddleston; several special nieces and nephews, Lynn (Cynthia) Cowan, Hixson, Tenn., Ken (Ann) Brown, Auburn, Ala., niece Carol (Derek) Logan, Greenville, SC, niece Caren (Mikel) Skinner, Avera; and a special sister-in-law, Helen Brown, Avera.

Pallbearers were Stephen Skinner, Ben Skinner, Rob Skinner, Lynn Cowan, Dan Huddleston, James Huddleston, Mikel Skinner and Derek Logan.

Honorary pallbearers were John Jones, James Paul, Jim Brown, Keith Usry, Bobby Smith, Glynn Wallace, Gary Rhodes, Algernon Usry, Charlie Davis, Milford Holdeman and Bennett Howard.

Memorials may be made to Waldens UMC Perpetual Care Cemetery Fund, c/o Patricia Kitchens, 1304 Hadden Pond Rd., Avera, GA 30803.
