Minnie Sanders Haynes
Mrs. Minnie Sanders Haynes, 70, of Wadley died Sunday, June 24, 2007.

Mrs. Haynes was a native of Dunn, NC, but lived in Brooklyn, NY, most of her life.

She was a 1956 graduate of Carver High in Mt. Olive, NC.

She was a day care owner until June 2005 when she relocated to Wadley.

The funeral will be June 29 at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul AME Church, Midville. Burial will be in the Brinson Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Wadley. Survivors include her husband, Darrell Haynes, Brooklyn; her son, Davis (Cheryl) Rhodes II, Brooklyn; sisters, Doris Tillman, Midville, and Jacqueline Saunders, Wadley; seven step-children, Kelvin (Marie) Haynes and Ronald Haynes, Fla., Stephens (Jean) Haynes, Md., Don (Loraine) Haynes and Robert Haynes, Brooklyn, Selwyn (Msue) Haynes, Va., Rhonda Davis, Texas; caretakers, Clara and Tommie Kemp, Wadley, and Sheree Moody, Midville; and many other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Bobby Wren
Mr. Bobby Wren, 63, of Thomson died Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Wren, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in Thomson for many years.

He was a carpenter and a member of the Local 283.

He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Wrens.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nellie Wren and a brother, Jack Wren.

The funeral was June 16 at 3 p.m. in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Burial was in the Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Wren; his son, Bob (Dena) Wren, Thomson; his daughter, Michelle (Jesus) Moreno; granddaughter, Ivey Wren; grandchildren, Bo, Matthew, Maricella, Tori, Aaron, Marcos De Jesus and Sacneite (White Flower).

Pallbearers were Brian Youngblood, Al Clark, John Waller, Wayne Clark, Bo Wren, Willie C. Grant and Mark Tapley.

Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren and member of Local 283.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jack Hesson
Mr. Jack Hesson, 71, of Mitchell died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

Mr. Hesson, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., was a Warren County resident for the past 49 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from civil service at Eisenhower Hospital with 30 years of service.

He was a member of Jewell Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, member of the church council, nominating committee and performed numerous other tasks for his church.

The funeral was June 24 at 3 p.m. at Jewell Baptist Church with the Revs. Mark Parnell and Bill Seaman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Hesson; two sons, Phil (Pam) Hesson, Black Mtn., NC, and Art (Darlene) Hesson, Suwanee; one daughter, Cindy (Chris) Mobley, Augusta; brothers, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Mike Howell, Brandon Mobley, Neal Harnage, Eric Hesson, Mike Newsome, Jeff Adkins, Lewis Newsome, John Wood and Mike Carr.

Memorials may be made to the Jewell Baptist Church, c/o Mrs. Doris Gockel, 10915 Macon Highway, Jewell, GA 30145.

Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clarence Broadus Sr.
Mr. Clarence Broadus Sr. of Louisville died Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Broadus was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County.

He was a member of Spring Bethel AME Church where he served as steward and on the trustee board.
He was also a member of the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society, the Morning Light Society, Gough Masonic Lodge #419 and the Farm Bureau Association.

He was a retired farmer of 51 years.

The funeral was June 10 at 2 p.m. at Spring Bethel AME Church with the Rev. James Jenkins officiating and the Rev. Thomas Berry assisting. Burial was in Spring Bethel Benevolent Society Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Onie Broadus; sons, Clarence (Sandra) Broadus and Charlie (Janice) Broadus, all of Louisville; four grandchildren, Antwan (Shelnay) Paige, Charlotte, NC, Kelli N. Broadus, Danielle L. Broadus and Charles Broadus Jr., all of Louisville; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were Conrad Dixon, Gregory Johnson, Octavious Turner, John Avery, Cardel Dixon and Eddie Dixon.

Honorary pallbearers were Stewards and Trustees of Spring Bethel AME Church.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hattie Bethea Brown
Mrs. Hattie Bethea Brown of Louisville died Sunday, June 10, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Brown was a native of Jefferson County and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Brown and a son, Mose Boyd Jr.

The funeral was June 16 at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness with Elder Clarence Gamble officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley (John) Henderson, Atlanta; a son, Lurrie (Cleo) Boyd, Bronx, NY; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several other relatives.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin Lewis Heggs
Mr. Melvin Lewis Heggs, 49, of Louisville died Saturday, June 16, 2007.

Mr. Heggs was a native of Jefferson County. He was the son of the late Junior and Gladys Davis Heggs.

He was a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church most of his life until joining Jesus Christ Miracle Deliverance Center.

He was a 1976 graduate of Louisville High School.

He worked for Forstmann and Company for over 15 years and was later employed by Georgia Select Processing Co.

The funeral will be June 23 at 1 p.m. at Solomon Temple Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Tarver Heggs; his daughter, Ettoria (Grodona) Avera, Louisville; his siblings, Delores (James) Cobb, Midville; Ernest (Shirley) Heggs, Sandersville, Angela (Wendell) Tarver, Wadley, and Advease (Jessie) Dogan, Hephzibah; two grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Holley
Mr. Charles Holley, 57, of Matthews died Monday, June 4, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville.

Mr. Holley was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church and was a warehouse foreman at Quebecor World.

He is preceded in death by his son, Charles ‘Chuck’ Jimmy Holley Jr., and his father, Jimmie Holley Jr.
The funeral was June 7 at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Elliott Fulmer Jr. and James Napier officiating.

Burial was in Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Ruby T. Holley; a son, Chris Holley; three daughters, Shannon Holley, April Holley and Rachelle Robinson; sister, Brenda (Joe) Butler; brother, Ronald (Mary) Holley; four grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were Mark Holley, Jason Holley, Mark Patterson, Mike Bowles, Mike McTier and Keith Holley.

Honorary pallbearers were David Thompson, Johnny Thompson, Red Price, Roger Coxwell, Joe Powell and Clarence Holley.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 325 8th St., Augusta, GA 30901.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bernice McNair
Mrs. Bernice McNair, 46, of Stapleton died Wednesday, June 13, 2007.

The funeral was June 18 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Aldred CME Church with the Rev. George Glenn officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Harry James McNair; six sisters, Hazel (Willie) Smith, Sandra (John) Singleton, all of Wrens, Rutha Mae (John) Crawford, Thomson, Frankie (Rev. Dennis) Dunban, Shirley (Thomas) Williams and Delores Taylor, all of Augusta; one brother, Glenn Pearson, Thomson; and several other relatives.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of the arrangements.

Gussie McNair
Mr. Gussie McNair, 89, of Wrens died Wednesday, June 13, 2007.

The funeral was June 16 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Aldred CME Church with the Rev. George Glenn officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Lockhart, Augusta, and Willie Mae Pitts, Wrens; two sisters, Mary Hatcher and Katie Mae Wells, Wrens; three brothers, George McNair, Dolphus McNair and Glover McNair; a devoted niece, Mary Lois Jackson; six grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Tobe “T.A.” Pittman
Mr. Tobe “T.A.” Pittman, 76, of Matthews died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Trinity Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Pittman served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and had retired from the construction business.

He is preceded in death by his son, Jeff Pittman.

Graveside services were June 18 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. David Brooks officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, Patty (Shawn) Danklef; a son, Tobe (Melissa) Pittman; a sister, Eloise Alma Pittman Brooks; a special friend, Annette Usry; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mack Brooks Jr., Tim Brooks, Brad Pittman, Danny Pittman, Keith Pittman and Mitchell Spell.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bertie Louise Smith
Mrs. Bertie Louise Smith, 94, died Friday, June 8, 2007, at Glendale Nursing Home.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband Theodore “Sonny” Smith.

The funeral was June 10 at 3 p.m. at Josey Baptist Church with the Revs. Ray Garren and Inman Gerrald officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
