Margaret Viola Hilton Thompson
Mrs. Margaret Viola Hilton Thompson died Monday, April 23, 2007, in Burlington, NJ.

Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Jessie Hilton Atkinson and was raised by the late Charles W. Hilton.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willie James Thompson.

She was a member of Hardeman Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, Zion Wheel Society, Fair and Honest Society, the Morning Star Society and the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society.

The funeral was April 28 at 2 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Abraham Gibbons officiating and the Rev. E.C. Cline assisting.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two children, James (Elaine) Thompson, Fort Washington, Md., and Mildred T. (Lacey) Walker, Burlington, NJ; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Scott, Christopher James Thompson, and Lacey Walker Jr.; her siblings, Ida Lee Flourney, Inwood, NY, Mary Ethel James, Delray Beach, Fla., Mattie Lee King, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Eli Atkinson, Delray Beach; eight great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Pallbearers were deacons and trustees of Hardeman Springfield Missionary Baptist Church.

Honorary pallbearers were Lacey Walker Jr., Troy L. Scott, Willie A. Walker, Christopher James Thompson, Lacey Walker Sr. and Freddie Fleming.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Daniel R. Beckworth
Mr. Daniel R. Beckworth, 72, of Riddleville, died Friday, April 20, 2007.

Mr. Beckworth, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Roney Beckworth and the late Ammie Parrish Beckworth.

He was retired from thiele Kaolin Company as a laboratory technician after 43 years of service.

He was co-owner along with his wife Barbara of the Tennille Food Center.

He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church and was a US Army veteran.

The funeral was April 22 at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. M.D. Cabe, Ken Davis and Bill Snipes officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jackson Beckworth; a son, Michael R. (Rebecca Beckworth, Riddleville; daughters, Dale Beckworth (Cecil Pruett), Tennille, and Danette B. (John) Dalton, Riddleville; grandchildren, B.J. Dalton, Meagan Dalton, John Beckworth and Lindsey Beckworth; a brother, Robert L. “Buck” Beckworth, El Paso, Texas; sisters, Anna Bell Gay and Cleo Martin, both of Stapleton, Sara Guy, Wrens, and Dahlia Brown, Jacksonville, NC.

Pallbearers were Phillip Brown, John Usry, Vernon Irby, Thomas Beckworth, Tommy Neal, Randy Jackson, Donnie Guy, Paul Beckworth and Bobby Beckworth.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of New Bethel Baptist Church and former co-workers at Thiele Kaolin, Van Prince, Tony French, Ed Riley and Steven Sheppard.

May and Smith Funeral Directors, Sandersville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Julia Wren Brown
Mrs.Julia Wren Brown died Friday, April 20, 2007, in Birmingham, Ala.

Mrs. Brown was born in Jefferson County and lived most of her life in Wrens.

She was the daughter of John Andrew Wren and Hattie Marion Fleming Wren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Grier Weldon Brown Sr.; two sisters, Marian Walden and Maggie Andrena Conn; two brothers, John Henry “Buck” Wren and Fleming Ernest Wren.

The Rev. Gary Jones, Wrens ARP Church and the Rev. Sally Harmon Brown, NorthPark Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas, will officiate at a memorial service at the Wrens Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church at a later date.

She was a lifetime member of the Wrens Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, a member of the Ira Caldwell Circle, Daughters of the American Revolution, Wrens Garden Club and in her last years became a member at the Shepherding Center at Bluff Park United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Ala.

Survivors include her son Grier Weldon Brown, Jr. (Sally) Dallas, Texas; her daughter Elizabeth Brown (Bill) Crotwell, Birmingham, Ala.; five grandchildren, Julie Crotwell (Paul) Davis, Seattle, Wash.; Kimberly Wren Van Rysselberge, Atlanta; James Weldon “Jay” (Tammy) Brown, Charleston, SC; Lisa Katherine Brown (Brian)Ahart, Austin, Texas; Susan Harmon Brown, Dallas, Texas.

Nine great grandchildren Kathleen Elizabeth Davis and Caroline Kimberly Davis of Seattle, Wash.; Lauren Anne Van Rysselberge, Atlanta; Jessica Brown, Dallas, Texas; Blake and Brooke Ahart, Austin, Texas; Carolyn, Sarah Katherine and Will Brown, Charleston, SC. Nieces Dollye Wren Ward, Wrens; Mildred Jon (Jonnie) Ghetti, Hoschton; Frances Hanna (Sammie) Fowler, Thomson; and nephews Richard Allen Lawson, Augusta and Walter Andrew (Diane) Wren, Covington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bluff Park United Methodist Church, Shepherding Center, 733 Valley St., Birmingham, AL 35226 or to the Wrens Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 404 King St., Wrens, GA 30833.

Philippa Denny
Philippa Denny, 84, of Louisville died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Ms. Denny was a native and lifelong resident of Jefferson County. She was retired from Jefferson Electric Membership Corp. She was a member of the Jefferson County Historical Society, the John F. Wren Chapter National Society Daughters of American Revolution, and Dames of Magna Carta.

She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church.

Memorial services will be held April 29 at 3 p.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mararet Denny Psaila, Tucker, and Mary Jane B. Denny, Tucker; four nephews and four nieces.

Memorials may be made to the Window Fund of the Louisville Untied Methodist Church or the Jefferson County Historical Society.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Davis Fann
Mrs. Elizabeth Davis Fann of Augusta died Saturday, April 7, 2007.

Mrs. Fann, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Martha Davis and Benjamin Trumpler.

She was a member of Jones Grove Baptist Church where she served on the usher board for several years.

She received her education in the Jefferson County school system.

She was a part of the Garrer Funeral staff for several years.

The funeral was April 14 at 1 p.m. at Jones Grove Baptist Church in Louisville with the Rev. Linzie Atkins III officiating and the Rev. Cecil Parrish assisting.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Marva Fann Atkins, Durham, NC, and Marty Fann, Augusta; brothers, Benjamin Davis, Orlando, Fla., and Willie Trumpler, Philadelphia, Pa.; sisters, Margaret Lawson, Macon, and Hattie Parrish, Symyrna, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Porter, Coty String, David Brown, Donald Brown, Christopher Brown, Frank McCall, Melvin McCall and Samuel McCall.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons and trustees of Jones Grove Baptist Church.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Sandra Flournoy
Miss Sandra Flournoy, 41, of Bartow died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Miss Flournoy was a member of Salter Grove Baptist Church.

She received her education in the Jefferson county school system.

The funeral was April 21 at Salter Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Holmes Sr. officiating.

Burial was in the Live Oak CME Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Freddie L. Knight Jr. and Quarmel Knight of Bartow, Elisheja Knight, Dominique Knight and Coretta Knight, Brooklyn, NY; mother, Ruby Florence, Bartow; brothers, Willie Roger James, Philadelphia, Pa., Bobby Price, Bartow, Charles Flournoy, Wrens, and Ken Flournoy, Dublin; sisters, Carolyn Flournoy, Bartow, and Shirley (Samuel) McCall, Louisville; three grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were her cousins. Honorary pallbearers were deacons and trustees of Salters Grove Baptist Church, and stewards and trustees of Live Oak CME Church.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Gibbons
Deaconess Elizabeth Gibbons of Louisville died Wednesday, April 18, 2007.

The funeral was April 23 at 2 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Wrens with Pastor Drake Barber and Pastor Gary Jouett officiating.

Burial was in Hardeman Springfield Cemetery in Louisville.

Survivors include her children, Willie Mae Cunningham, Lee Gibbons and Jimmy Gibbons, Louisville, Eloise Gibbons, Augusta, and Joan (Phillip) Ligon, Hinesville; two sisters, Juanita Gibbons Tarver, Wrens, and Fannie Mae Mitchell, Louisville; three brothers, William (Doris) Gibbons, West Palm Beach, Fla., Tom Nelson, Hollywood, Fla., and Arthur Lee Gibbons, Louisville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Charles Mitchell, Torris Mitchell, John Mitchell, Arthur Gibbons, Corey Gibbons and Carlos Thomas.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Arthur Green
Mr. Arthur Green of Louisville died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Augusta.

Mr. Green, a native of Treutlen County, had lived in Jefferson County for several years. He was a member of Mays Grove Baptist Church and a US Army veteran.

He received his education in the Miami, Fla. school system.

The funeral was April 11 at 2 p.m. at Mays Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Alvin Lewis officiating.

The Rev. Chavous Boyd, Minister Thomas Wickes and the Rev. Tommie Walker Jr. assisted. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Cooper Green, Louisville; sons, Terry Brown, Miami, Fla., Ricky Zimmerman, Louisville, and William Green, Columbia, SC; daughters, Cholia Bryant, Miami Garden, Fla., Paula Green, Calif., Lucille Walker, Wrens, Yasmin Green, Miami, Minnie Zimmerman, Hephzibah, TyWana Green, Houston, Texas, Sophie Thompson, Augusta, and Leila McCall, Louisville; brothers, Antrun Green and Wardell Green, Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Selma Dixon, Vidalia, Cleo Bateman, Atlanta, Elizabeth Knowels and Janice Miller, Miami; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives. Pallbearers were Wesley Thompson, Charles Tennyson, George Cunningham, Kerry Harden, Ira Duncah Sr., Derron Thompson, Arturo Thompson and Antron Burton.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons and trustees of Mays Grove Baptist Church.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Ann Meadows
Mrs. Betty Ann Meadows, 66, of Bonaire died Friday, April 20, 2007, in Perry.

Mrs. Meadows was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., and grew up in Bartow.

She had lived in Augusta for many years.

She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Warner Robins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lawson and Mary Kendrick of Bartow.

The funeral was April 22 at 4 p.m. at Coleman’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Slade officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Lewis, Bonaire, and Melody Story of Jackson; one son, James W. Caswell Jr., Gibson; two stepsons, Darren Meadows, Perry, and Wesley Meadows, Colo.; one sister, Della Jane Malone, Cochran; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Bubba Lewis, Clint Lewis, Mark Story, James Malone, Kenny Malone and Kyle Story.

Memorials may be made to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Dr., Warner Robins, GA 31088.
