Mary Jane “Sweet Mary” Huntley
Mrs. Mary Jane “Sweet Mary” Huntley, 103, of Louisville Died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Heritage of Old Capital.

Mrs. Huntley was a native of Jefferson County and a member of the Canaan Galilee Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir, missionary board and served as Mother of the Church.

She was also a member of the Lone Star Society, A S and B Society and the Jefferson County Senior Citizens.

The funeral was April 10 at 3 p.m. at the Canaan Galilee Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Stokes officiating. Burial was in Lone Star Society Cemetery.

Survivors include three children, Narcissus McBride, Fannie Houston and Ben Huntley Sr., Louisville; 28 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 77 great-great-grandchildren; nine great-great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Canaan Galilee Building Fund, c/o Narcissus McBride, 403 E. 7th St., Louisville, GA 30434.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Carlton “Sugg” Danford
Mr. Carlton “Sugg” Danford of Wadley died Wednesday, March 28, 2007.

The funeral was April 6 at Hudson Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. James Jenkins officiating.

Burial was in the Braddy Family Cemetery in Bartow.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosezinnie (Larry) Tarver, Augusta, and Latrice Jenkins, Wadley; a sister, Lenora (C’Lester) Tooks, Wadley; three brothers, Johnny (Sallie) Danford Jr., and Clarence Danford, Wadley, and David Allen (Wylene) Danford, Louisville; three grandchildren; two aunts; and a special friend, Cora White. Pallbearers were Joe Johnson, Horace Nicey, Curtis Danford Jr., Kenny Danford, James Hall, Alonzo McIntosh and James “Chuck” Wilcher.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

John Edward Feutral
Mr. John Edward Feutral, 73, of Augusta died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Doctor’s Hospital.

Mr. Feutral was born in Wrens and was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a retired welder.

Graveside services were March 28 at 12:30 p.m. at Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Price officiating.

Survivors include five sons; three daughters; four sisters; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Activity Fund, c/o The Place of Martinez, 409 Pleasant Home Rd., Augusta, GA 30907.

Thomas L. King Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Brank Yvonne Jones
Mr. Brank Yvonne Jones of Wrens died Monday, March 19, 2007.

The funeral was March 24 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Berry officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Y. Jones, Augusta; one grandson, Brian C. Kelly, Augusta; his mother, Mary Lou Jones, Keysville; six brothers, Thomas O. (Pinkie Ann) Jones, Rev. Willie L. (Christine) Jones, Wrens, Rick C. (Patricia) Jones, Leonard B. (Helen) Jones, Savannah, John J. Jones, Conyers and Bobby (Marcella) Jones, Statesboro; two sisters, Fannie (Richard) Berry and Bernice (Leo) Whitfield, Wrens; and several other relatives.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Cleoris Lewis
Mr. Cleoris Lewis, 65, of Aiken, SC, formerly of Wrens, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Aiken Regional Hospital, Aiken, SC.

Mr. Lewis was an employee of Thermo King in Louisville for many years and was self employed as a carpet installer.

He spent one tour of active duty in the United States Air Force with an honorable discharge. He was an ordained deacon of the Mays Grove Baptist Church.

His membership affiliations included the NAACP, Gough Masonic Lodge #419, the National Federation for the Blind, and the American Legion Lodge.

The funeral was March 26 at 11 a.m. at Wrens Seventh Day Adventist Church with the Rev. Alvin Lewis Jr. officiating. Burial and repast was held at the Mays Grove Baptist Church in Wrens.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Josephine Walker Lewis; his son, Rev. Timothy Lewis Sr., Augusta; two daughters, Chrystal (Gregory) Goodson, Wrens, and Elaine (Tifiloe) Council, Aiken, SC; four brothers, Jason Lewis, Columbus, Ohio, Henry (Christine) Lewis, Louisville, Rufus (Bernestine) Lewis, Augusta, Honora (Pauline) Lewis, Detroit, Mich.; three sisters, Rosa Mae Hannah, and Dorothy (James) Shinhoster, Miami, Fla., and Marjorie Greene, Detroit, Mich.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several other relatives.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Samuel Andrew McNeely Sr.
Mr. Samuel Andrew McNeely Sr., 73, of Bartow died Friday, March 30, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. McNeely was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and had lived here all of his life. He was retired from the timber business and was a United States Army veteran.

A private interment service will follow at a later date.

Survivors include one daughter, Angela McNeely Jones, Athens; three sons, Samuel A. McNeely Jr., Adam McNeely, Bartow, and Kane McNeely, Huntsville, Ala.; one sister, Jasmine Ruth Mole, Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren, Samuel McNeely, Anna McNeely Bailey, Brian Jones, Kevin Jones, Stephen Jones, Matt McNeely and Will McNeely; and two great grandchildren.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Avery William Salter
Mr. Avery William Salter, 77, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007.

Mr. Salter, a native of Tattnall County, had lived in Waynesboro for most of his adult life.

He was retired from Canal Industries (Southland Timber Company) after 41 years of employment.

The funeral was March 30 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Waynesboro, with the Revs. Wayne Dixon and John Wall officiating.

Burial was in Burke Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce T. Salter; four sons, Ted Salter, Phil Salter, Jerry Salter and Greg Salter, all of Waynesboro; and one daughter, Beth Fouche, Evans; a brother, Revis Salter; a sister, Clara Nell Canady; and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers were George Palmer, Floyd Mincey, Dr. Johnny Christian, Dr. Hugh Scott, Jake Smith, Phillip Wren, Jesse Reese and Dave Dodge.

Honorary pallbearers were current and former employees of Canal Industries, Laura Henry, Donna Hood and Tommy Reeves.

Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James Paul Strickland Jr.
Mr. James Paul Strickland Jr., 86, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at The Heritage Capital Nursing Home.

Mr. Strickland, a native of Merriweather County, lived most of his live in the Louisville area. He was U.S.N.

retired after 34 years of service. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Louisville.

The funeral was April 3 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.

Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery with full military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Steed Strickland; four sons, James Earnest (Becky) Strickland, Charlotte, NC; Charles Paul Strickland Sr. and Robert Joe Strickland, both of Louisville, and Glenn (Debbie) Strickland, Perry, Fla.; one daughter, Frances (Jay) Roddy, Columbia, SC; one daughter-in-law, Pamela H. Strickland, Greenville, SC; one brother, Joe (Shirley) Strickland, Hickory, NC; six grandchildren; and 11 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Louisville.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of the arrangements.

Leon Datron Gilmore
Mr. Leon Datron Gilmore of Wadley died Tuesday, March 13, 2007.

The funeral was March 21 at 2 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Harden officiating.

Burial was in Hard Shell Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Joanne Plummer and Leon Gilmore, Wadley; three sisters, Tawanda Gilmore, Wadley, Marquita (Timothy) Cummings, Augusta, and Stephanie Harmon, Swainsboro; four brothers, Tony Plummer and Tommy Plummer, Wadley, Terrilski (Ravene) Davis, Augusta, and Cynica Harmon, Swainsboro; paternal grandmother, Mary Gilmore, Swainsboro; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were Elijah Habersham, Willie Woods, Tommy Woods, Randy Floyd and Donald Lewis.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Jenkins Higgins
Mrs. Mary Jenkins Higgins of Augusta died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Higgins, a native of Kyger, Ohio, received a bachelors degree from Ohio University and a masters degree from the Inter American University.

She was a retired high school teacher having taught at several local schools including Jackson High School, Richmond Academy and Jefferson County High School. She was a member of the Church of the Atonement Episcopal Church. The funeral was March 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with the Rev. Rick Sanders officiating.

Burial was in Westover Memorial Park.

Survivors include her son, James Higgins, Newnan; a daughter, Garen Livingston, Hartsville, SC; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors, Augusta, was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmy Hodge
Mr. Jimmy Hodge, 64, of Wrens died Monday, March 19, 2007, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Hodge was a U.S. Navy veteran.

The funeral was March 23 at 1 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ben Martin and Roy White officiating.

Burial was in Wrens Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Janee Hodge; three daughters, Lindsey Hodge, Christy Davidson and Denese Due; two sons, Taylor Hodge and Robert Hoffman; two sisters, June Coleman and Dean Isner; seven grandchildren, Jackson Hoffman, Kayla Peck, Logan Peck, Evan Peck, Chase Blair and Brittney Sebourn.

Pallbearers were George Stapleton, Dean Hadden, Judson Boyd, Pete Stapleton, Adam Howard and Wayne Davis Jr.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lillie Mae Holliman
Mrs. Lillie Mae Holliman of Thomson died Friday, March 16, 2007.

The funeral was March 24 at 4 p.m. at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Appling, with the Rev. Johnny Few officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Rozell Spillman-Haywood, Bushnell, Fla., and Laura Rolling, Augusta; two sons, Henry Albert Jr. Rolling, Chicago, Ill., and Willie H. Rolling, Thomson; and several grandchildren.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of the arrangements.
