Mr. Samuel "Buck" Stone
Mr. Samuel “Buck” Stone of Benton Harbor, Mich. entered into rest on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, after a brief illness.

Mr. Stone began attending St. Matthews AMC of Louisville at an early age. One of his first jobs was in restaurant service. He later moved to New York before finally making Benton Harbor, Mich., his home.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Hover Funeral Home in Buchanan, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jenning S. Stone and Vinnie Fann-Stone; both paternal and maternal grandparents; two sisters, Annie Maude-Pierce and Sallie Maude Hillsmon; a number of aunts and uncles; one nephew, Jenning S. Stone III; and two great-nephews, Markinyo Gage and Timonthy A. Wynn.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Stone; sisters, Catherine Washington and Louise Stone Jordan; brothers, Jenning S. Stone Jr. (Annie F.) and Edgar Lee Stone (Dorris); daughters, Cassandra Lynn Stone, Nola Harris and Erica Pitone; son, Samuel Derwin Stone; sisters-in-law, Annie Cunigen (Tidus), Dorothy White (Johnny), Florine Patterson (Alvin), Malale Milligan (Joe), Irene Ross and Charlie Weaver; one brother-in-law, Jerry Weaver; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mrs. Christine Kelley Tomlin, age 88, of 305 Cherokee Blvd., Toccoa, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the Stephens County Hospital. The daughter of the late Rev. Holman Kelley and Allene Holbrooks Kelley, she was born November 19, 1918 in Franklin County, and had lived most of her life in Toccoa. She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and Saints Alive. Mrs. Tomlin was employed with Gem Jewelry for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward Tomlin in 1996, two brothers Rhuel Kelley, Bill Kelley, three sisters Mary Mullins, Jeanette Harrison and Patsy Scott. Survivors include two daughters Dianne Lawrence and Judy Means both of Toccoa, four grandchildren Nan Payne of Toccoa, Allyson Carter of Baldwin, Georgia, Ginger Burton of Melbourne, Florida, John Charles Lawrence, Jr of Charlotte, North Carolina, five great grandchildren Millie and Carley Payne, Charlie Carter, Chase and Anna Kate Burton, two sisters JoAnne Burns of Toccoa, Joyce Pannell of Easley, South Carolina, also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 4:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Grace Baptist Church with The Reverend Ford Ash officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers and should assemble at the funeral home by 3:15 on Tuesday: Chuck Pannell, Bud Kelley, Charles Henson, Herb Woodall, Charles Whitworth, Tony Presley, Gene Crawford and Kelly Burns. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, PO Box 1298, Toccoa, Georgia 30577. The family is at the home on Cherokee Blvd, Toccoa and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Monday from 3 until 5 and 7 until 9 P. M. Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens with The Reverend Patman Lester officiating. Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements for Mrs. Christine Kelley Tomlin.

Mr. Joe Velton Walters
Mr. Joe Velton Walters, 73, entered into rest on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008.

Mrs. Walters was born on Nov. 18, 1934, in Kissimmee, Fla., to the late Velton and Ona Jo Collins Walters. He received his bachelor's of science and master's from Georgia Southern University. He was band director for Greensboro High School and later went to work for the Seaboard Coastline and retired as an engineer in 1999. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Retired Railroad Men’s Club.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at 4 p.m. in Central Untied Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Tom Pietila and Rev. Wil Malambri.

Survivors include his wife, Kitty Kelly Walters; daughter, Laurie Walters of Louisville; son, Mark Walters (Syd) of Florence, S.C.; grandson, Samuel Walters; brother, Dr. Jerry C. Walters (Kris) of Augusta; nephews, Lorne Walters and Ken Mekoska; and niece, Natalie Walters.

Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 225 W. Cheves St., Florence, S.C. 29501.

Mrs. Martha Jeanette Mosley Webber
Mrs. Martha Jeanette Mosley Webber, 80, of Wadley died on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Webbers, born in Washington County, was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Jesup.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at 11 a.m. a the Tarrytown Cemetery, with Rev. Michael Branson officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane Calhoun of Wadley; a son, Rev. Daniel Webber of Guyton; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Joseph Broadus Davis
Mr. Joseph Broadus Davis, 62, of Wrens entered into rest Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at University Hospital.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at 4 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. John Jenkins officiating. Burial followed at Waldens UMC Cemetery.

Mr. Davis was a native of Jefferson County. He was a member of Waldens United Methodist Church and was retired after 29 years at J.M. Huber as a process technician. He is the son of the late John Broadus Davis and Marion McGahee Davis.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Ginger Peebles Davis; his children, Chris (Rhonda) Davis and Kathy Davis; a brother, Randy Davis; two sisters, Betty (Bucky) Norton and Shelby (James) Shelton; three grandchildren, Rhyanna, Christy and Gavin.

Pallbearers were Nathan Norton, Derrick Davis, John Lloyd Davis, Dennis Davis, Daniel Roger, Charles McGahee, Guy McGahee and Edward Shelton.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Willie B. "Preacher" Nelson
Willie B. “Preacher Nelson” Nelson funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Trinity AME Church, Warrenton, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Christopher Andrews, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Sandy Grove Baptist Church, Mitchell.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi Nelson; six daughters, Willie Mae Casey, Pauline Ivey, Bertha Williams, Vickie Nelson, Warrenton, Shirley Bannister, Columbia County, Karen Hammond, Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, Frank Nelson, Maryland; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters; one brother; other relatives and friends.

Dawson’s Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mr. Charles H. Rabun
Mr. Charles H. Rabun, 65, of Thomson entered into rest on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Rabun was a native of Warren County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a painting contractor and a Navy veteran. He was a member of the Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, where he was also a deacon.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Drawdy, Rev. Roy Frierson and Rev. Russell Davis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Mr. J.R. Rabun; and his sister, Mrs. Bobbie Barfield.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra McTier Rabun, Thomson; his daughter, Tina (Steven) Drawdy, Beech Island, S.C.; his son, Chad (Tina) Rabun, Gibson; two sisters, Betty Gersen, Anacestes, Wa. and Mary Garrison, Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Billy Rabun and Junior Rabun, both of Stapleton; and eight grandchildren, Erin Drawdy, Ashton Drawdy, Michael Drawdy, Blakely Portor, Colby Johnson, Parker Rabun, Chandler Rabun and Garrett Rabun.

Pallbearers were Troy McTier, Mansel McTier, Johnny Rabun, Ronnie Rabun, Sam Kitchens and Aubrey Jones.

Mr. Bobby Albright Lawrence
Mrs. Annie Shellman Tarver, 96, of Bartow entered into rest on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Jefferson County Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. at Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Mount Pleasant C.M.E. Church, Bartow.

Mrs. Helen McIntosh Boyd
Mrs. Helen McIntosh Boyd of Louisville entered into rest on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, in Augusta.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Wadley, with Rev. Herman Baker officiating. Burial was in the San Clair Cemetery in Wadley.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony McIntosh, Washington, D.C. and Recardo McIntosh, Hartsville, S.C.; two daughters, Karen (Reginald) Jones, Swainsboro, and Dewanza (Mathias) Shrives, Pensacola, Fla.; her mother, Bernice Gilmore McIntosh, Wadley; three sisters, Brenda (Frank) Thomas, Swainsboro, and Barbara Ann McIntosh and Verdell McIntosh, both of Wadley; two brothers, Alonzo McIntosh and Tony McIntosh, both of Wadley; six grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were John Hill, Ricky Strowbridge, Larry Prather, Wesley Snell, Robert Jackson Jr. and Tracy Johnson.

Mrs. Audrey Thigpen Duncan
Mrs. Audrey Thigpen Duncan, 87, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Hospice House.

Mrs. Duncan was born in Avera on Aug. 8, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Marvin M. and Ora Dye Thigpen. She was retired from Greenwood Mills, Chalmers Plant and was a member of the Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club. She also was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church and the Ladies Bible Class of the church, she formerly taught in the pre-school Sunday school department.

Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, with Rev. Leland S. Scott and Rev. Wayne Traverse officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry F. Duncan.

Survivors include a son, S. Wayne (Janice) Duncan of Greenwood; a brother, Marvin M. “Junior” Thigpen of Greenwood; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn W. Duncan of Johnson City, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Jeff Duncan, Kathryn D. Hyder and Mendy D. Miller; and great-grandchildren, Zachary S. Miller and Haley A. Miller.

Pallbearers were Charlie Cockrell, Chris Cockrell, Joshua Cockrell, Al Timmerman, Robert Timmerman, Chad Timmerman, Mike Thigpen, Steve Alexander and Mark Lagrone.

Memorials may be made to Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, 509 Kirksey Dr.W., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Mrs. Jennette Estroff Goldwasser
Mrs. Jennette Estroff Goldwasser, 98, passed away after a brief illness. Mrs. Goldwasser was married to the late Isadore “Izzie” Goldwasser and together they were citizens of Louisville. They owned and operated the Louisville Furniture Company. After her husband’s death, she moved to Augusta to live at Brandon Wilde. Graveside services were held at noon on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta with Rabbi David Sirull officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to Adas Yeshurun Synagogue, 935 Johns Rd., Augusta, Ga. 30904 Elliott Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Joseph H. Griswell
Mr. Joseph H. Griswell, 80, of Mitchell entered into rest Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Griswell was a native of Hancock County, but lived in Glascock County most of his life. He also worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years and was a Post Master. He was an Army veteran of WWII and he was a member of Mitchell United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Mitchell United Methodist Church, with Dr. Dwight D. Irons officiating. Interment was in the Mitchell City Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Mike and Mrs. Sallie Cheeley Griswell.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Iris C. Griswell; one son, Robert S. Griswell of Atlanta; two daughters, Landie Griswell of Forsyth and Shirley Jo Tanton of Sulpher Springs, Texas; two stepsons, Horis Chuck Cooler of Savannah and Mearl Cooler of Macon; one stepdaughter, Faye Bragg of Macon; one brother, Louis (Easy) Griswell of Mitchell; two sisters, Etta G. Wilcher of Mitchell and Joann Usry of Gibson; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Wayne Williams, Mike Chance, Rodney Wilcher, Anthony Griswell, Jody Usry, Larry Story, Darren Epps and Casy Carroll.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity Hospice of Augusta.

Mr. Larry Hall
Mr. Larry Hall, 61, of Wadley entered into rest on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, in Monroe County.

Mr. Hall, born in Emanuel County, was a truck driver, Vietnam War veteran, and a member of Coleman’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Coleman’s Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Pat Holbert officiating. Interment was in Wadley City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Hall; two daughters, Renee Copeland and Rhonda Strickland; a brother, Cliff (Neal) Hall; and two sisters, Annie Ruth (Skeet) Deriso and Linda (Bruce) Logue.

Pallbearers were Davey Lamb, Jeff Jones, Alan Logue, Greg Hall, Rick Copeland and Gary Cavanaugh.

Mrs. Marsha Ann Ivey
Mrs. Marsha Ann Ivey, 56, of Dearing died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Ivey was a native of Jefferson County, but had lived in Dearing for many years. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery, Gibson, with Rev. Ralph Kitchens officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Jimmy Ivey, Dearing; two daughters, Stephanie Tankersley and Lacie Meadows-Ivey, both of Dearing; her mother, Mrs. Vivian Swafford, Dearing; three grandchildren, T.J. Tankersley, Nathan Tankersley and Kyra Tankersley; two sisters, Sandra Summers, Gibson, and Robin Smith, Dearing; a stepdaughter, Angie Knight, Gadsden, Ala.; and a stepson, James Ivey, Blairsville.

Mrs. Florene Usry Kitchens
Mrs. Florene Usry Kitchens, 97, of Gibson entered into rest Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Jefferson Hospital, Louisville.

Mrs. Kitchens was a native of Glascock County, and lived there all her life, she was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Allen McCoy officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh D. Kitchens.

Survivors include friend, Leon Murphy; two nieces, Jessica Murphy and Betsy Chalker; one nephew, Lee Murphy; and several other nieces and nephews.
