Ms. Annie Bell Raye Ponder
Ms. Annie Bell Raye Ponder, 59, departed this Saturday, March 15, 2008, at an Augusta hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 20, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wallace Mason officiating.

Ms. Ponder was the daughter of the late Lenora Heggs Gibbons and a member of the Ebenezer CME Church.

Survivors include her stepfather, Adam Gibbons; her aunts, Eunice (Dale) Devero and Dorothy (Robert) Dixon, Betty Loyd, Eula Myers of Louisville, Vira Kent, Carrie Smith, Rosa Williams, Amanda Brown and Ernest (Lue) Hines of Jacksonville, Fla.; her siblings, Geneva Gray, Mary Raye, Susie Raye of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Johnson and Norma Thomas of Louisville; goddaughter, Ora Sanders of Louisville; special friends, Isaiah Ponder and Cleveland Jordan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Leona Howard Williams
Mrs. Leona Howard Williams, 86, departed this life Monday, March 17, 2008, at an Augusta Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 22, 2008, at noon at the Canaan Galilee Baptist Church and Lone Star Society Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Myles and Aselene Cooper Howard, the widow of the late Jimmie Lee Williams Sr., a member of the Canaan Galilee Baptist Church where she served as an usher for many years. She was also a member of the Lone Star Society.

Survivors include her children, Freddie Williams, Lamar (Henrietta) Williams, and Alvin “Jig” Williams of Louisville, Mary Williams of Statesboro, Queen Ester (Robert) Jackson of Korea, Jimmie (Careese) Williams of Hephzibah, Sandra (Clifford) Russ of Millington, Tenn.; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Fannie Maude Howard of Louisville and Rose Williams of Augusta, Eddie Williams of Jacksonville, Fla.; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Bessie Lee Wilson
Mrs. Bessie Lee Wilson of Homestead, Fla., entered into rest March 5, 2008, at Homestead Hospital.

Mrs. Wilson was a native of Glascock County and a member Piney Grove Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Gibson, with Rev. Carlos Newton officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Jessie Wilson, Homestead; a daughter, Barbara (Leslie) Floyd, Fort Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Clara Annett Walker Magargel, Jersey City, N.J., Evelyn Walker Turner, Augusta; three grandchildren, Todd Robinson, Douglasville, Denisha Seed, Fort Myers, and Leo L. Seed, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Cayona Edwards and Ashanti Crawford, Fort Myers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dent’s Undertaking Establishment was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James Wimburn
Mr. James Wimburn, 84, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Charlie Norwood V. A. Medical Center.

A native of Wrens, James was the son of the late James Lawson Wimburn and the late Agnes Fleming Wimburn. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was co-owner of Interstate Supply Company. James was a member of Burns Memorial United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home Lumpkin Road Chapel with Reverend Bill Burch officiating. Interment followed in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Barry Nichols, Steve Clark, Millwee Owens III, John Dixon, Bill Owens and Bill Dixon. Honorary pallbearers were Millwee Owens Jr., Forrest Silvey, Cliff Watton and Dr. Rob Collier.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Dixon Wimburn; two sons, James Michael (Pam) Wimburn of Appling, and John Burke Wimburn of Augusta; two daughters, Bonnie Wimburn Smith of Portland, Ore. and Diane Clark of North Augusta, S.C.; eight grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Agnes Fleming Silvey and Eleanor Fleming Powell both of Augusta.

The family received friends on Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Elliott Sons was in charge of arrangements.

Miss Julie E. Wright
Miss Julia E. Wright of New York, N.Y., formerly of Wrens, had a graveside committal service on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Sugar Hill Cemetery, Wrens with the Rev. Dr. W.L. Jones, officiating.

Survivors are goddaughters, Sharon Carson and Nicole Vaughn and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Larry Byrd
Mr. Larry Byrd, 58, of Trenton, S.C. died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Byrd was a native of Glascock County, and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was a carpenter.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 22, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Trenton with burial at Sweetwater Baptist Church Cemetery in North Augusta.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Shellman Byrd; his mother, Myrtice Thigpen Dye; one daughter, Barbara Burton; two sons, Billie Byrd and Daniel Byrd; three stepchildren, Renee Mead, Melissa Harris and Dwayne McKie; two brothers, Roger Dye and Ralph Byrd; four sisters, Sarah Morris, Joyce Nabors, Opal Chalker and Betty Miller; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Deloris "Suk" Davis
Ms. Deloris “Suk” Davis, 44, of Matthews entered into rest on Sunday, March, 9, 2008, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Thompson Springhill AME Church, Matthews, with Rev. Charlie Myrick, presiding, and Rev. Robert Edwards, pastor, eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Ms. Davis was preceded in death by her brother, Warren Brinson.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Jenkins, Matthews; two brothers, Leotis Brinson, Matthews, and David Brinson, Augusta; two aunts, Geneva Thomas, Matthews, and Margaret Brinson, Augusta; one uncle, James Brinson, Augusta; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Hattie Ruth Marion Flonnory
Mrs. Hattie Ruth Marion Flonnory of Bartow departed this life Sunday, March 23, 2008, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Ebenezer CME Church, Bartow, with Rev. B. Darryl Walker III officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer CME churchyard cemetery.

Mrs. Flonnory was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Handy and Annie Bell Hall Marion and the widow of the late Charlie “Bud” Flonnory. She was a member of Ebenezer CME Church.

Survivors include her children, Annie R. “Sister” Flonnory of Bartow, and Isaac (Mattie) Flonnory of Wilmington, Del.; daughter-in-law, Julia Lee Flonnory of Wadley; grandchildren, James (Sharon) Flonnory, Sandra Flonnory, Deborah Flonnory, Jeffery Flonnory, Dwayne Flonnory of Bartow, Roger Heggs of Wadley, Robert Flonnory, Charles (Mary) Heggs, Marie “Ann” Flonnory, Joyce Flonnory, Glynn Flonnory, Dorthea Flonnory, Phyliss Flonnory, and Isaiah Portis of Wilmington, Del.; and three sisters-in-law, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Nelle Burnette Ford
Mrs. Nelle Burnette Ford, 86, of North Augusta, S.C. entered into rest Wednesday, March 19, 2008.

Born May 14, 1921, Mrs. Ford was a lifelong resident of North Augusta. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. She was also a member of Sheffield Club, Senior Friends and the Velma Campbell Sunday School Class.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at First Baptist Church of North Augusta with Dr. James M. Ford and Rev Jerry T. Matthews officiating. Interment was in Pineview Memorial Park.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theron Daniel Ford Sr.

Survivors include three sons Theron D. Ford Jr. (Becky), Matthews, N.C., Dr. James M. Ford (Brooks), Martinez, and C. Wayne Ford (Tricia), North Augusta; a daughter, Kaye Ford Bathe (Steve), Anderson, S.C.; five grandchildren, Kris Ford, Klint Ford, Kelly Ford, Dawn Deal and Michael Ford; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kris Ford, Klint Ford, Michael Ford, Steve Bathe, Chris O’Kelley and Gregg Nantz.

Honorary pallbearers were members of Sheffield Club, Velma Campbell Sunday school class and her caregivers.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Augusta Rescue Mission 526 Walker St. Augusta, Ga. 30901 or Community Ministries of North Augusta 646 E. Buena Vista Ave. North Augusta, SC 29841.

Mr. Eleon Gordon
Mr. Eleon Gordon, 39, of Stapleton entered into rest Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Mr. Gordon was born in Jefferson County to George and Lois Thompson Gordon. He attended the public schools in Glascock and Jefferson counties. He graduated from Wrens High School in 1989. Mr. Gordon furthered his education to become a truck driver. He graduated from Carolina Driving Academy in Clearwater, S.C. in 1995 with honors.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the New Hope AME Church, Grange, with Pastor Delmus Mosley officiating, and Rev. David Batts, eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Lois T. Gordon, Stapleton; father, George Gordon, Wilmington, Del.; two daughters, Elonica Gordon, Augusta, and Trinity Grace Gordon, Vidalia; four brothers, Ricky Gordon, San Antonio, Texas, Micheal B. Gordon, Tony Gordon, both of Stapleton, and George (Robin) Gordon Jr., Beverly, N.J.; a nephew reared as a brother Zachary (Tara) Gibbons, Wrens; four sisters, Joyce Ryan, Viola Demelus, Dianie (Jackie) Smith and Gwen (Jeff) Farmer, all of Stapleton; seven uncles; five aunts; two great-aunts, Cora McCall of Atlanta, and Nerissa Durden of Avera; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Joseph Adam Headrick
Mr. Joseph Adam Headrick, 28, of Warrenton died Friday, March 14, 2008, at the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Headrick was a native of Wilkes County, but lived in the Grovetown area before moving to Warrenton in 2004. He was an electrician with the Wilson Co. and a Baptist.

Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Robert W. Riley officiating.

Survivors include his daughter, India Caitlin Headrick, of Warrenton; his fiancé, Tiffany Bright, of Warrenton; his stepchildren, Hunter Fallaw and Rainy Fallaw, both of Warrenton; his parents, Russell and Geneva Smallwood of Warrenton, and Robert L. Headrick of Ringold; three sisters, Lisa Jenkins of Gibson, April Headrick of Savannah, and Shae Smallwood of Warrenton; three brothers, Vernon G. Snodgrass, Zakk Smallwood, both of Warrenton, and Robert E. Headrick of Savannah; paternal grandmother, Betty Blanton of Savannah.

Mrs. Margaret Sue Phillips
Margaret Sue Phillips, 65, of Thomson entered into rest March 20, 2008.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Edgefield, S.C. and was the daughter of the late Eli Robinson and the late Nancy Adams Robinson. She lived in McDuffie County for 35 years, was a Wal-Mart associate and was a Baptist by faith.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating. Interment followed in Westview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael Spivey, Scott Spivey, Tracy Phillips, Stacy Phillips, Russell Montgomery and Randy Griswell.

Survivors include husband, Tommy Phillips, Thomson; sons, Michael Spivey (Kathy), Rockford, Ill., Timmy Spivey, Thomson, Scott Spivey (Lisa), Thomson, Tracy Phillips (Kelly), Lincolnton, and Stacy Phillips (Pam), Thomson; daughters, Kay Douglas (Rob), Augusta, and Jennifer Montgomery (Russell), Stapleton; sisters, Polly Watson, Columbia, S.C., Grace Derrick, Johnston, S.C., Irene Hutcheson, Augusta, and Mae Harrelson, Augusta; and 16 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 717, Thomson, GA 30824.

Mrs. Mattie Mae J. Rollins
Mrs. Mattie Mae J. Rollins, 91, of Augusta entered into rest Wednesday, March 19, 2008.

Mrs. Rollins was the wife of the late James S. Rollins. Mrs. Rollins was a native of Louisville. She was a Past Matron of the Homer Legg Order of Eastern Star in Lincolnton, and a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church where she was in the Turner-England Fellowship Class.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 21, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim McCollough officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include her daughter, Jane R. Teasley of Martinez; sister, Louise Joiner of Augusta; grandchildren, Stephanie T. (Paul) Eicher of Lincolnton, Tracy S. (Kitty) Teasley Jr. of Grovetown; great-grandchildren, Tracy S. (Betsy) Teasley III of Martinez, and Tanner Eicher of Lincolnton.

Pallbearers were Paul Eicher, Tracy S. Teasley Jr., Tracy S. Teasley III, Tanner S. Eicher, Ricky Joiner, Dwight Joiner and Wayne Joiner.

Honorary Pallbearers were the Turner-England Fellowship Class.
