Mr. Reginald R. Kent
Mr. Reginald R. Kent, 70, of Keysville entered into rest on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at his residence.

Born in Richmond County, Mr. Kent spent most of his life in Glascock County. He graduated high school from Glascock County High School in 1957 after which he attended Southern Tech in Americus, graduating as a heavy equipment mechanic in 1960. He was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church, a Mason and a Shriner.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the First Baptist Church of Warrenton, with Rev. Mike Dann and Dr. Charles Drummond officiating. Interment followed in the city of Gibson Cemetery, Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Robert Kent; and his parents, Cleo Newsome and William Branson Kent Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Judy G. Kent; children, Regina Kent Thompson, Mitchell, Jeff (Stacey) Kent, Warrenton, Stephanie C. (George) McGahee, Stapleton, and Byron (Allison) Crutchfield, Stapleton; two brothers, Nolan Reid (Linda Sue) Kent, Warrenton, and William Branson (Jean) Kent Jr., Warrenton; six grandchildren, Edward Bruce Thompson Jr., Jeffrey Scott Kent Jr., Michael Pierce Kent, Evan Crutchfield, Caree McGahee and Baylor Crutchfield; and many friends.

Pallbearers were Charles Gay, Delma Gunn, Randy Hayes, Jon Kent, Marvin Norman and Willis Stanley.

The family requests memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY, 10001 or to Trinity Hospice Memorial, P.O. Box 31358, Augusta, GA, 30903.

Mr. Marvin Murphy
Mr. Marvin Murphy, 76, of Dearing entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Murphy was a native of McDuffie County. He was the son of the late David and Berta Mae Murphy. He was retired from the maintenance department of E-Z-Go. He was a member of the Iron Hill Advent Christian Church.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, in the Iron Hill Advent Christian Church Cemetery, with Pastor M.L. Barber officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Hood Murphy, Dearing; two daughters, Amanda Story, Louisville, and Tammy Pope, Thomson; son, Mark Murphy, Georgia; three sisters, Lois Edmunds, Dearing, Linda Williams, Graniteville, S.C., and Doris “Dot” Harlow, Virginia; two brothers, Earl Murphy, Dearing, and Ben Murphy, Ohio; and eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Edward Henderson Newsome
Mr. Edward Henderson Newsome, 66, of Avera entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at his residence.

Funeral services were held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dewayne French, Rev. Tony Carson and Rev. Larry Davison officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Edward Newsome.

Survivors include his wife, Lavonia Ganus Newsome; children, Edward Hadden Newsome, Robin Rene Chavous and Lisa Kay Bush; mother, Marjorie Kent Newsome; brother, Terry C. Newsome; three sisters, Glenda K. Martin, Joyce Patricia Price and Penny A. Hand; nine grandchildren, Brittney Bush, Summer Chavous, Carol E. Newsome, Dallas Bush, Chasity Chavous, Edward I. Newsome, Laura Newsome, Calvain Newsome and Kaitlyn Newsome; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Dallas Bush, Allen Chavous, Tim Davison, Corey Mullens, Edward Isaiah Newsome, Greg Walden, Keith Walden and Richard Walden.

Mrs. Frances L. “Marion” Irby Palmer
Mrs. Frances L. “Marion” Irby Palmer, 70, of Lincolnton entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Doctor’s Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera, with Rev. Nathan Palmer and Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Daisy Byrd Irby; three brothers, Tom Irby, Gus Irby and Buford Irby; and sister, Betty Irby.

Survivors include her husband, David Palmer; children, Dwayne (Debra) Hadden, Avera, Ronnie (Amy) Hadden, Avera, Michelle (Kelly) Gunter, Blairsville, Tiffine Brown, Pensacola, Fla., and Toshia (Swain) Keaton, Trenton, S.C.; two brothers, Grady (Florence) Irby, Louisville, and Bob (Sara) Irby, Evans; sister, Dorothy (Kenneth) Kelley, Macon; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Thomas Arrington, Gus Cash, Charles Irby, P.J. Irby, Sonny Irby, Trey Logan, Lamar Palmer and Danny Tucker.

Mr. Ronald Lee Polan, 60, of Wadley entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at MCG.

Mr. Polan, native of Wadley, was retired, a member of Colemans Chapel United Methodist Church, and attended Praise Hymn Ministries in Wrens.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Praise Hymn Ministries in Wrens, with Pastor Cinday Glover officiating. Internment followed in the Wadley City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Plan of Wadley; son, Greg Polan (Cathy) of Wadley; two daughters, Melissa Lumpkin (Keith) of Arlinton, Tenn., and Erika Yates (Danny) of Sandersville; mothers, Lois Plan of Wadley; and two sisters, Helen Stavely of Wrens, and Ann Schumaker of Wadley.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Miss Smith was a native of Jefferson County.

Mr. Robert Lewis Terrell
Mr. Robert Lewis Terrell of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009.

He was born Dec. 14, 1927.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Bethelhem AME Church, Avera, at 11 a.m.

Survivors include one son, Steven Victor Terrell; brother-in-law, Hensney Franklin; three brothers, Welton Terrell of North Augusta, S.C., Cleophus Terrell and Leotis Terrell, both of Wrens; five sisters, Sallie D. Brown, Jerrylene Bethea, both of New York, Clysree Brown of Washington, S.C., Lenora Brisbon of Dearing, and Gwendolyn D. Terrell of Avera; adopted brothers, Freddie Peeples of New Jersey, Billy Peeples and Sammie Peeples, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., and William Peebles of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Steven McBride and Taboris McBride; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ruby Brooks Walden
Mrs. Ruby Brooks Walden, 87, of Wrens entered into rest on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at her residence.

A native of Warren County and member of Little Briar Creek Baptist Church, Mrs. Walden was the daughter of the late H.L. “Dick” Brooks and Sallie Reeves Brooks. She retired from Stapleton Garment Company and lived most of her life in Gibson and Wrens.

Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at 3 p.m. Interment followed at the Gibson City Cemetery, Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Walden; her husband, W.A. “Bat” Walden; two sisters, Sarah Usry and Margaret Berry; and son-in-law, Tommy “Red” Hayes.

Survivors include her daughter, Faye W. Hayes, Wrens; granddaughter, Pamela Joyce Hayes, Augusta; sister, Betty B. Bryant, Thomson; two brothers, Bob Brooks, Gibson, and Leon Brooks, California; a stepsister, Linda Montgomery, Martinez; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were James R. Kitchens Jr., Brad Kitchens, Milton Berry Jr., Bennett Clark, Lee Griffin, DeWayne Faglier and Brian Sims.

Miss Lillie Pearl Wall, 87, of Norwood entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Heritage Health Care, Washington.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Augusta, with Rev. J.B. Dunn and Rev. Brenda Vandaver officiating.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Annie Patrick Wall.

Survivors include her brother, William “Bill” Wall (Lena) of Norwood.

Mrs. Juanita McNeely Gordon
Mrs. Juanita McNeely Gordon, 83, of Louisville entered into rest on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at her residence.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. Gordon was a daughter of the late William Dewey and Latishia Funderburg McNeely and was a homemaker.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Taylor Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert E. Sabo Sr. officiating. Burial followed in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon Gordon; a sister, Harriet Henson; and a brother, Calvin McNeely.

Survivors include a son, Eldon Clarence “Skeeter” Gordon of Louisville; two brothers, Talmadge McNeely of Winchester, Mass., and Alec McNeely of Wrens; four sisters, Louise Borders of Louisville, Martha Sabo of Carlinville, Ill., Billie Farrer of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Hazel Horseman of North Augusta, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Michael McNeely, Clayton Henson, Jack Borders, James Farrer, Murray Hadden and Ronnie Horseman.

Mr. Robert Lee “Rabbit” Johnson
Mr. Robert Lee “Rabbit” Johnson, 64, of Cadley entered into rest on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at McDuffie County Hospital.

Mr. Johnson, a native of Glascock County, was the son of the late Charlie and Mary Catherine Whitehead Johnson. He was a retired supervisor with Hall Contracting and a Baptist.

Graveside funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at the New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Roger Kennedy officiating.

Survivors include his son, Glenn Wayne (Marie) Johnson, Dearing; three daughters, Robbie Ann (Jerry) Reese, Warrenton, Lee (Bobby) Tincher, Harlem, and Angela Faye (Brian) Adams, Gibson; two sisters, Betty J. (Barry) Hyman, Norwood, and Lizzie Mae King, Dearing; two brothers, Leroy (Sally) Johnson, Warrenton, and Riley (Georgia) Johnson, Thomson; and 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 5853 Cadley Road, Norwood, GA 30821.
