Mrs. Annie Kitchens
Mrs. Annie Kitchens, 91, of Stapleton entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, in McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Kitchens was a native of Richmond County, but had lived in Stapleton for many years. She was a homemaker, and a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, with Rev. Roy Frierson, Rev. Bill Seaman and Rev. Ronnie Shelton officiating. Burial was in Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Kitchens Sr.

Survivors include her son, Sam (Hattie Lou) Kitchens Jr., Stapleton; and two granddaughters, Pam (Aubrey) Jones, Stapleton, and Carla (Brad) Daughtry, Stillmore.

Pallbearers were Barton Hobbs, Hugh Hobbs, Warren Kitchens, Harry Kitchens, Lamar Massey and Mansel McTieir.

Memorials can be made to Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, 356 Mt. Beulah Rd., Stapleton, GA, 30823, or to Reedy Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. John D. Oglesby Sr.
Mr. John D. Oglesby Sr., 84, of Garfield entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Crowe-Fields Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reba Norris Phillips
Mrs. Reba Norris Phillips, 86, of Wrens entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at her residence.

Born in Warren County, she moved to Wrens. She is retired from the Wrens School lunchroom staff.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at 3 p.m. in the James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Stan Littleton and Dr. James M. Ford officiating. Interment followed at Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James S. “Doc” Phillips; and brother, Rev. Henry Norris.

Survivors include her children, Johnny (Leetta) Ray, Barbara R. (Kenneth) Prescott, and Pat (J.T.) McCorkle; two sisters, Catherine N. Winters and Ruth N. Cutchin; eight grandchildren, Wayne (Jennifer) Prescott, Kip (Karla) Prescott, April Prescott, Emily (Benji) Cranford, Robert Laughery, Dan McCorkle, Erica Walker and Jimmy (Trish) Laughery; and 12 great-grandchildren, Kady, Kelsee, Hudson, Cole, Haylee, Ariel, Summer, Holly, Sam, J.P., Benjamin and Canaan.

Pallbearers were Gary Bazemore, Carl Bethune, Lloyd Brassell, Jimmy Fleming, Joe Jenkins, Gordon Prescott, Kip Prescott, Wayne Prescott and Bob Rogers.

Memorials may be made to Wrens UMC, 202 Russell St., Wrens, GA, 30833 or to Trinity Hospice, 2803 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, GA, 30904.

Mr. Mitchell “Slick” Roberts
Mr. Mitchell “Slick” Roberts, 71, of Stapleton entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at his residence.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, Avera, with Pastor Carlos Newton Sr. officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Ollie Ree Dawson Roberts of Stapleton; six daughters, Marie Rivers and Sharon Farmer, both of Wrens, Dianne Roberts, Irma Jean Roberts, Rachel Roberts and Patricia Hannah, all of Stapleton; two sons, Calvin Roberts Sr. of Augusta, and Michael Roberts of Avera; one sister, Pauline Davis of Pompano Beach, Fla.; five brothers, Lamar Jones of Wrens, Fletcher Jones, Lindsay Roberts and Wyman Roberts, all of Avera, and Jimmy Roberts of Stapleton; 31 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ammie Dye Smiley
Mrs. Ammie Dye Smiley of Wadley entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, in Wadley.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Spears Grove Baptist Church in Wadley, with the Rev. C.W. Stone officiating. Burial was in Hard Shell Cemetery, Wadley.

Survivors include four nieces and nephews, Maxine Brown, Verda Mae Hudson, Edward Bell and Pughsley Bell, all of Wadley; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Terry Brown, Eddie Hudson, Howard Hudson Jr., Naquilivious Brown, Willie Woods, Tommy Woods and Michael Woods.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Willie Burt Williams
Mr. Willie Burt Williams, 69, of Louisville entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at University Hospital.

Mr. Williams was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a carpenter, mechanic and a farmer.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at 10 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Stan Littleton and Rev. Kenneth Watkins officiating.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Lou Rushin and Harvey Williams; granddaughter, Chrystal Williams; two brothers, Harmon Williams and Harvey Williams; and his sister, Juanita Watkins.

Survivors include his wife, Pam Larder Williams; children, William Caron Williams, Bonnita W. (Michael) Gainey, William Burton (Lynn) Williams, Guy Brett (Diane) Williams and Ben Epps (Gladys) Williams; two sisters, Derryl Cochran and Susan Gibson; 15 grandchildren, Sabrina, Joshua, Kayla, Kelly, Summer, Kim, William, Amy, Marie, Brooklyn, Sawyer, Jordan, Katlyn, Taylor and Joshua; 10 great-grandchildren; and his pet bovines, felines and canines.

Pallbearers were Mike Lilly, Andrew Kodana, Robert Kodama, Henry Jenkins, Bill Godowns, Clay Holbrook, Wayne Gill and Timmy Watkins.

Honorary pallbearers were Robert Cowart, Merle DeBaere, P.C. Holbrook and Joe Sheppard.

Mr. Terry Williams Sr.
Mr. Terry Williams Sr., 40, of Holly Hill, Fla., entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Faith Memorial CME Church and Spring Bethel Benevolent Society Cemetery.

Mr. Williams was a native of Jefferson County, where attended Jefferson County public schools. He was a warehouse employee.

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Tarver Williams of Wadley; mother, Dessie Thomas Williams of Bartow; children, Terry Williams Jr. of Sanford, Fla., Angela Williams of Augusta, and Devante’ Williams and Desiree Williams, both of Port Orange, Fla.; godchildren, Jalisa and Jasmin Butler, both of Port Orange Fla.; siblings, Dianne (Kenneth) Jackson, Alvonia (Allen) Cheeley and Minnie Williams, all of Bartow, Mary Williams and Betty Williams, both of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Albert Williams and Katoria Williams of Swainsboro; five grandchildren; grandfather, Dessie Thomas of Louisville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben and Lula Tarver of Wadley; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Kay Wheless Barnes
Mrs. Kay Wheless Barnes, 61, of Lilburn entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.

Graveside services were held on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, with Rev. Hal Hodges officiating.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Charles Ray Barnes Jr.; three children, Andrew Barnes, Jillian Barnes and Kathryn Barnes, all of Lilburn; mother, Nellie Smith Wheless, Lilburn; brother, David Wheless, San Antonio, Texas; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Sanchez.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association by going online to www.diabetes.org/honor.

Mrs. Harriett S. Bobbitt
Mrs. Harriett S. Bobbitt of Augusta entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Jefferson Hospital, Louisville.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Survivors are her husband, James Bobbitt, Augusta; two daughters, Monique Bobbitt and Ursular Bobbitt; grandson, Marcus James Threat, all of Atlanta; two sisters, Lillie Mae (Thomas) Wilson, Augusta, and Phila Smith, Waynesboro; two brothers, Sam (Mamie) Smith, Augusta, and Leroy (Louise) Smith, Coco, Fla.; brother-in-law, Ernest Sapp, Augusta; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Margaret “Honey” Gay Bobo
Mrs. Margaret “Honey” Gay Bobo of Wrens entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Tommy Roundtree and Pastor Scott McKinney officiating. Interment was private.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rabun F. Bobo.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jarenda (Steve) Durham and Tangella (John) Gay; four grandchildren, Teelisha and Mark Jones, Craig and Chris Gay; one great-grandson, Brysen Jones; one sister, Sara G. Richardson; and friend, Christine Durham.

Elliott Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bessie Stevens Braddon
Mrs. Bessie Stevens Braddon, 85, of Davisboro entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at Heritage Inn Nursing Home in Sandersville.

Mrs. Braddon was born in Emanuel County, the daughter of the late Young Robert Stevens and Jennie Tressa Outlaw Stevens. She worked as a former seamstress, as a dietician for the Emanuel County Hospital and as a bus driver for the Jefferson County Board of Education. Mrs. Braddon was a former long time resident of Boston, Mass., as well as Emanuel County before moving to Washington County to be near family. She was a member of the Davisboro Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Davisboro Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Glover officiating. Burial was in the Davisboro City Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Abraham E. Gross and Ernest Braddon; and her son, Mark Alexander Gross.

Survivors include her sons, Robert E. Gross (Maxine) of Tennille and Wayne L. Gross of Sandersville; daughter, Anne Mourlot (William) of Fayetville, N.C.; grandchildren, Robert Mourlot, Laurie M. Strother, William Mourlot, Robert W. Gross, Randall E. Gross, Rosanne E. Gross, Rebecca Gross and Aaron Gross; and great-grandchildren, Abby Gross and Cylus Gross.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Braddon’s grandsons.

Mrs. Mary J. Perry
Mrs. Mary J. Perry, 81, entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at Syl-View Health Care Center in Sylvania under the care of Nighting Gale Hospice with her family by her side.

A native of Sardis, Mrs. Perry resided in Sylvania, and was of Baptist faith.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Interment followed at Corinth Christian Church Cemetery, Girard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Bertha Johnson; husband, Garnett Perry; and a daughter, Mary Ann Perry.

Survivors include a son, Bill Perry (Debbie) of Wrens; three daughters, Margaret Moore (Leslie) of Springfield, Theresa Burke (Reamer) of Statesboro, and Elizabeth Adams (Mark) of Aiken, S.C.; sister, Agnes Miles of Hephzibah; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Shane Perry, Tony Perry, Charles Oglesby, Chris Marshall, Brian Adams and Johnny Johnson Jr.

DeLoach–McKerley Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Miss Roxanne Ellen Rooks
Miss Roxanne Ellen Rooks, 50, of Keysville entered into rest Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Trinity Hospital.

Miss Rooks was born in Jefferson County to the late Bob and Ellen Hadden Rooks and was a resident of Wrens. She also resided at the Milledgeville State Hospital for many years and most recently lived at the Keysville Nursing Home and Rehab Center.

Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the Walden United Methodist Church Cemetery, Avera.

Survivors include her brother, Greg Rooks, Atlanta; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, a nephew, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers were Charles McGahee, Guy McGahee, Nathan McGahee, Russell McDonald, Dennis Wheeler and Bruce Dowdy.

Honorary pallbearers were the staff at Keysville Nursing Home.

The family requests that memorials be made to Keysville Nursing Home and Rehab Center, 1005 Hwy 88, Keysville, GA.
