Mr. Pilcher L. James
Mr. Pilcher L. James, 83, of Matthews entered into rest Monday May 11, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. James was retired as a carpenter and was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army where he fought in War World II.

Graveside services were held at Wrens Memorial Cemetery on Wednesday May 13, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jason Burton officiating.

Mr. James was preceded in death by his parents, Silas James and Beatrice Arrington James; and sister, Velma Thompson.

Survivors include his children, Phyllis D. (Joe) Worley, Hephzibah, Wanda (Jimmy) Baker, Matthews, and Danny B. James and Jerry P. James, both from Blythe; a brother, D.J. James, Thomson; two sisters, Raydell Kirchner, Keysville, and Bobbie Dixon, Wrens; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Cal Newman, Donald Connor, Tracy Dixon, Douglas Dixon, Dennis Wheeler and Tony Cooper.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William Howard Jenkins
Mr. William Howard Jenkins, 62, of Augusta entered into rest on Sunday, May 17, 2009, at University Hospital.

Mr. Jenkins was a member of West Acres Baptist Church, and the former owner of Howard’s Welding Supply Company.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at West Acres Baptist Church, with the Rev. Denny Mack officiating. Burial followed at 4 p.m. at Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include his son, William Howard Jenkins II (Cynthia); three brothers, Phillip Jenkins, Joe Jenkins and Maurice Jenkins; four sisters, Betty Brady, Miriam Jenkins, Sarah Jenkins and Ann Jenkins; two grandchildren, Ashton Jenkins and Bryce Jenkins; four nieces and nephews and three great-nieces and –nephews; friends, Jackie Cook, Mary Beth Bohler (Gentry), and Seth and Jackson Bohler.

Pallbearers were Billy Norton, Ricky Norton, Tommy Matthews, John Bounds, Gentry Bohler and Cecil Floyd.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Love Sunday school class, and the McDonald’s breakfast club.

Mrs. Cleo Beckworth Martin
Mrs. Cleo Beckworth Martin, 91, of Stapleton entered into rest on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Louisville Hospital.

Mrs. Martin was retired at Sibley Mill as a spinner, and was a member of Stapleton Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, May 18, 2009, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Daryl Price and Rev. Jimmy Sanders officiating. Burial followed at Westview Cemetery in Augusta.

Mrs. Martin is preceded in death by her husband, James C. Martin; parents, Ronnie Beckworth and Ammie Lou Beckworth; four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her children, Tommy (Jane) Neal, Augusta, and Faye N. (Braddy) Jones, Stapleton; three sisters, Dalhia Brown, Jacksonville, N.C., Sarah Guy, Matthews, and Ann Bell Gay, Stapleton; four grandchildren, Leanett Douglas, Patricia Newsome, Keith Neal and Kelvin Neal; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers were Keith Neal, Kelvin Neal, Thomas Beckworth, Ronnie Usry, James Usry, Mike Beckworth, Donnie Guy, Mike Irby, Phillip Brown and Johnny Beckworth.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Stapleton Baptist Church Building Fund C/O Anthony Lamb, 360 Harvey St. Stapleton., GA 30823.

Mr. Aubrey “Obbe” Mincey
Mr. Aubrey “Obbe” Mincey, 73, of Wadley entered into rest on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the Glendale Nursing Home, Wadley.

Mr. Mincey was a native of Dodge County, born the son of the late Aubrey and Rosa Mincey Fluellen. He was educated in the Jefferson County School System and worked as a logger.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 1 p.m at Davis Funeral Home Chapel, Louisville, with Rev. Wallace Mason officiating. Burial was in the Blount Chapel AME Church Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Christopher Allen Mincey of Clarksville, Tenn., Milton Mincey of Wadley, and Glenn “Shirley” Mincey of Davisboro; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; three aunts, Annie Eliza Freeman of Augusta, Mattie B. Mincey of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Mary Murray Mincey of Decatur; a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Danny Rivers
Memorial services for Mr. Danny Rivers, 56, of Thomson were held on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Gibson.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Newman Clark Smith
Mr. Newman Clark Smith of Bartow entered into rest on Friday, May 15, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born 89 years ago at his residence in Bartow. He was a member and Chairman of the Deacons of Josey Baptist Church, a member of the Bartow Community Club and Ingles Breakfast Club. Mr. Smith was a World War II veteran and in the Battle of the Bulge. He was in the 99th Infantry Division Company C. 395th Infantry. During WWII Private Smith was a rifleman and a truck driver. He earned several medals while in the Army, including, Eamet Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and three Bronze Service Stars. He was retired as a foreman at Fulghum Industries.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 18, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Josey Baptist Church, with Rev. Inman Gerrald and Rev. Don Proctor officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Newsome (Earl) and Joan Dey (Ron); three sons, Newman Clark Smith Jr. (Kathy Hamby), Charles Thomas Smith and Timothy Smith; grandchildren, Cindy (Ken) White, John (Tanya) McKee Jr., Ruth (William) Cain and Shalena (Jammy) McCoy; great-grandchildren, Parker Cain, Jackson Cain, Alexis Mckee, Isibealla McKee, Emalee and Bailee McCoy and Ridge McCoy; step-great-grandchildren, Lynn, Rena, McKenzie and Lee and Annie and Mary White; friend, Julia Mae Josey; brothers and sisters, Robert Smith, Lorena Ford, Vina Mae Josey, Herbert Smith, Ben Smith, Mabel Proctor and Fred Smith; and sister-in-law, Eugenia Smith.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Josey, Wayne Josey, William Josey, Mike Churchwell, Randy Smith and Doug Arrington.

Memorials may be made to the Odessy Healthcare Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Edna J. Vaughn
Mrs. Edna J. Vaughn, 77, of Wrens entered into rest on Monday, May 11, 2009, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Vaughn was retired as a lab technician, a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church and a member of the Lady’s Sunday School Class. She was the wife of Brantley Vaughn and the daughter to the late Willie Wise and Zennie Butler Wise.

Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Paul Moore officiating.

Survivors include her children, Carol (John) Pittenger, Murphy, N.C., Bruce Wesson, Lexington, Ky., and Stanley Wesson, Caldwell; stepson, Mike (Lorine) Vaughn, Macon; six grandchildren, Tracy, Chris, Johnathan, Jennifer, Dustin and Sonny; and two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Butler.

Pallbearers were John Pittenger, Tommy Herndon, Phillip Johnson, Clarence Holley, John Bush and Roger Coxwell.

Mr. Roman Washington Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y. entered into rest on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Funeral services were held at noon on Monday, May 18, 2009, at Brinson Hill Baptist Church in Wadley, with Rev. Dr. David Kemp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his two daughters, Joy Romance Washington, Philadelphia, Pa., and Debra (David) Long, Hackensack, N.J.; one sister, Bernese Graham, Atlanta; a grandson, Romello Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Tyrone Bryant, Anthony Hunt, Larry Turner, Jerome Turner and Brandon Wilkey.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Margaret E. Williams
Mrs. Margaret E. Williams, 77, of Martinez entered into rest on Friday, May 15, 2009, at Westwood Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Williams, daughter of the late Marvin Hester Daniel Sr. and the late Lurlean Kent Daniel, was born on April 1, 1932, in Glascock County. She lived in Martinez for the past 17 years. Mrs. Williams was retired as a registered nurse. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Dennis Williams and James Edward Williams; and a brother, Tommie Daniel.

Survivors include her husband, Lindy H. Williams, Martinez; son, Tony Williams, Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters, Elaine Jones, Washington State, and Mary Prall, Cornelia; brothers, Roy Daniel, Saucier, Miss., Marvin H. Daniel Jr., Thomson, Terry Daniel, North Augusta, S.C., and Darry Daniel, Thomson; sisters, Eulawynne Kitchens, Gibson, Jan Phillipe, Evans, and Wynell Lewis, Stapleton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jason Mathis, Michael Brown, Russell Clark, Anthony Clark, John Burns and Dean Reese.

Mr. Ronald F. Wright
Mr. Ronald F. Wright, 57, of Mitchell entered into rest on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the Heartland Hospice House, Augusta.

Mr. Wright was a softball coach for the Hillsborough Community College, The Pampa Thunder Traveling Team and the Lutz Leaguetts Softball Teams. He was an Army veteran and a painter.

Memorial services were held at the Gibson First Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 6 p.m., with Rev. Jarrod Adkins officiating.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodger F. and Addie Lynn Pinkston Wright; and a sister, Marsha Garman.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah L. Wright of Mitchell; son, Christopher Steven Wright; daughter, Chrishell Ebner of Mitchell; two brothers, Robert Wright of Tampa, Fla., and Rodger Wright Jr., of Brandon, Fla.; four sisters, Lisa Barnes of Tampa, Fla., Janice Agan of Tampa, Fla., Marty Huff of Lakeland, Fla., and Patty Collins of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Ron Ebner, Rebecca Lynn Ebner and Maddie Jane Ebner; and a stepmother, Janet Wright of Tampa, Fla.

Mr. L.B. Anderson
Mr. L.B. Anderson, 88, of Grovetown entered into rest on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Doctors Hospital, Augusta.

Mr. Anderson was a lifetime resident of Columbia County. He was a member of Powell Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a retired dairy farmer.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Powell Baptist Church, with Rev. Randall Whitaker and Rev. J. Robert Anderson officiating. Interment was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lucille Cates Anderson.

Survivors include two sons, J. Robert (Sybil) Anderson, Dacula, and Lee I. (Donna) Anderson, Grovetown; two daughters, Eugenia (Vernon) Stone, Baxley, and Ina (Richard) Prescott, Wrens; ten grandchildren, Troy Stone, Marla Thompson, Wade Anderson, Trent Stone, LaNell Rakness, Amy Sanchez, Ben Anderson, John Prescott, Katie Anderson and Mary Prescott; 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons and Edward James.

Honorary pallbearers were the Sunday school class.

Rev. Edward Emmett “Ed” Deen
Rev. Edward Emmett “Ed” Deen, 80, of Louisville entered into rest on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, in University Hospital in Augusta. A native of Baxley, Rev. Deen was a son of the late Emmett and Lenora Waters Deen. He attended Rhinehart Junior College, Asbury College and received his master of divinity from Emory University in Atlanta. He served in the ministry for 50 years, and pastored several churches throughout South Georgia.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2009, in the Louisville First United Methodist Church, with Dr. James T. Pennell, Rev. Emory C. Gilbert and Rev. V.L. Daughtry officiating. A service was also held at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2009, at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Baxley, with Rev. Lamar Rabun officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, with Rev. Jack McCullough officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Eva Deen of Louisville; a daughter, Betty Sue Green (Ricky) of Bartow; a brother, Paul Deen (Tillie) of Baxley; two grandchildren, Brandy Green of Louisville, and Michael Green of Louisville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to any church that Rev. Deen pastored.
