Mr. W. Lawrence Langham
Mr. W. Lawrence Langham, 72, of Tennille entered into rest on Saturday, June 13, 2009.

Mr. Langham was born in Warren County, the son of the late Samuel Lee Langham and the late Mary Lou McCoy Langham. He was the former owner/operator of Langham Logging, Inc. Mr. Langham was a former member of the Civitan Club, the Moose Lodge and the Hamilton Masonic Lodge.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Survivors include his companion, Beatrice Howell of Eatonton; children, Marie L. Blackmore (John) of Crystal Lake, Ill., Michael Lawrence Langham (Debbie) of Gray, Kathy Segars Raines of Sandersville, and Leigh Anne Johnson of Eatonton; grandchildren, Pheobe Robinson, Johnathon Blackmore, Jamie Langham, Jessie Langham, Allena Beall, Lawren Raines, Ashton Smith and Dylan Johnson; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Wilkerson and Dorothy Thigpen, both of Thomson, and Betty Langham of Pitts; and brothers, Linton Langham of Mitchell, and Tim Langham of Conyers.

Donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 3630 J. Dewey Gray Circle, Suite A, Augusta, Ga. 30909.

May and Smith Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Clara Megargel
Mrs. Clara Megargel of Jersey City, N.J. entered into rest on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. Megargel was a native of Gibson.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Megargel.

W.H. Mays Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bobbie Ann Nelson
Mrs. Bobbie Ann Nelson, 58, of Stapleton entered into rest on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.

Mrs. Nelson was born on May 15, 1951, to the parentage of Mr. Spread Palmer Jr. and late Lula Mae Jordan in Burke County. She completed her education in Gough in the Burke County School system. She later met and married her husband Joe M. Nelson and made Stapleton her home. She worked at the Stapleton Garment Factory in Stapleton as a machine operator for several years. She joined Ways Grove Baptist Church, in the Stellaville Community, at an early age.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at 4 p.m. at the Ways Grove Baptist Church, Stellaville Community, with Pastor Rev. Jimmy McCullough III, presiding, and Rev. James Nelson, Eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by son, Jonathan Dell Nelson; and daughter, Bobbie Joe Nelson.

Survivors include her husband, Joe M. Nelson of Wrens; a son, Joseph Nelson (Kim Houston) of Washington; a daughter, Lisa (Larry) Boatright of Stapleton; father and step-mother, Spread (Eva) Palmer Jr. of Hephzibah; sisters, Eddie Lou Berry of Wrens, Fanny Mae (Villan) Brown of Boston, Mass., Deloach Eway and Beulah Mae Nelson, both of Waynesboro, Diane Holley of Clearwater, S.C., and Sherry Ann Palmer of Augusta; brothers, Willie Palmer of Jackson, Freddy Palmer of Gough, and Brett Palmer of Augusta; stepsister, Learvon Harris of Waynesboro; stepbrothers, Thomas Jones Jr. of Augusta, and Joseph Jones of Waynesboro; two uncles, Jesse (Annie) Palmer, and Henry Palmer, all of Miami, Fla.; three aunts, Dorothy Avram and Willie Mae (Bennie) Daniel, all of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Christan (Norman) Evans of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Joshua and Jayla Nelson of Washington, Jalisa and Larry Boatright Jr. of Stapleton, and Angie Bell of Wrens; one great-grandson, Rodriquez Bell of Wrens; a host of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Luvenia K. Parker
Mrs. Luvenia K. Parker of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, June 6, 2009.

Mrs. Parker, a native of Jefferson County, lived in Detroit, Mich., for many years before moving to Augusta. She was a retired steel service worker.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Ways Grove Baptist Church, Jefferson County, with Rev. McCullough officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one sister, Nellie Mae Dixon, Louisville; nieces, Agnes Streeter, Augusta, and Virginia Merritt, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; nephew, Hubert King, Philadelphia, Pa.; two grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and other relatives.

Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jeffrey Holmes Parrish
Mr. Jeffrey Holmes Parrish, 53, of Wrens entered into rest on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Burke Medical Center.

Mr. Parrish was a native of Dougherty County. He was self-employed, a truck driver and a farmer.

Graveside memorial services were held at Wrens Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Gary Jones officiating.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Lewis Holmes Parrish.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy R. Parrish; mother, Lucille McCleskey Parrish; his daughter, Allison Crutchfield; and a grandson, Baylor Crutchfield.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Prescott
Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Prescott, 61, of Mitchell entered into rest on Monday, June 8, 2009, at University Hospital.

She was the wife of Tanny Prescott.

Graveside services were held at Mt. Moriah Cemetery on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 11 a.m.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Farris and Inez Smith; brother, Alec Smith; and three sisters, Dorothy Smith, Evelyn Hunter and Mary Lou White.

Survivors include her son, Tom (Tonya) Thurman; two daughters, Lisa T. (Derry) Chalker and Betty Ayers (Paul) Jones; stepdaughter, Amanda Prescott; seven grandchildren, Tony Chalker, Derry T. Chalker, Victoria Chalker, Kimberly Thurman, J. T. Thurman, Delaine Jackson and Lindsey Jones; great-grandson, Tyree Chalker; and sister, Lydia Smith, Dayton, Tenn.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Allen Williford
Mr. Allen Williford, 47, of Gibson entered into rest on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Williford was a native of Washington County but lived here most of his life. He was the owner of his Paint and Body Shop in Gibson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Gibson First Baptist Church, with Rev. Adrian Burrell officiating. Interment was in the Gibson Church of God Cemetery, Gibson.

Survivors include his parents, Terrell and Helen Holbrook Williford of Gibson; one son, Matthew Allen Williford of Gibson; one daughter, Amanda Starr of Gibson; one brother, Troy Williford of Gibson; one sister, Connie Deane of Gibson; companion, Holly Nelson of Gibson; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Ryan Craven, Coleman “Buddy” Pulliam, Keith Williford, Jay Williford, Clay Holbrook and Charles Holbrook.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Georgia Ann Beasley
Mrs. Georgia Ann Beasley of Wrens entered into rest on Friday, June 12, 2009, while a patient at University Hospital in Augusta.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Ways Grove Baptist Church, Stellaville, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Rev. Jimmy McCullough III, presiding, and Rev. Thomas Berry, eulogist. Interment was held in the church cemetery.

Survivors include four sisters, Doris Matthews, Mattie Rowe and Connie Watkins, all of Wrens, and Eleanor (Roy Lee) Fergerson, Lincolnton; four brothers, George (Rosa) Berry and Ronnie Robinson, all of Wrens, Steve (Phyllis) Berry, Atlanta, and Freddie Berry, Newark, N.J.; friend, Mitchell Taylor, Wrens; stepdaughter, Joyce (Carl) Allgood, Miami, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Marie (Leroy) Robinson and Lottie M. (Gilbert ) Merrix, all of High Springs, Fla., and Evelyn (Raymond) Cason of Atlanta; two brothers-in-law, Joshua (Ethel) Taylor, Jacksonville, Fla., and Cephus Taylor, of High Springs, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Dale H. Hadden
Mr. Dale H. Hadden, 57, of Gloverville, S.C., entered into rest on Tuesday, June 16, 2009.

Born in Louisville, he had been an area resident most of his life. Prior to his health declining, he was a Land Surveyor Assistant with William R. Gore.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Langley, S.C., with Pastor Jack Scott officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, S.C.

He was preceded in death by his father, Horace F. Hadden.

Survivors include his mother, Peggy Sutton Hadden, Gloverville, S.C.; brother, Mickey Hadden, (Wendy), Gloverville, S.C.; sister, Patricia H. Bailey (John), North Augusta, S.C.; nephew, Heath Hadden; and nieces, Heather Smith, Jennifer Hadden, April Kelly and Stephanie Napier.

Pallbearers were Randy Gore, Mike Logan, Billy Freeman, Randy Connell, Heath Hadden and Joel Napier.

The family has asked that memorials be made to the American Heart Association.

Mr. James Lee Hobbs
Mr. James Lee Hobbs, 83, of Stapleton entered into rest on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Hobbs was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Stapleton. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Avera. He was a lifelong resident and active member of the Stapleton community where he was a former mayor of Stapleton and a member of the Stapleton Fire Department. Mr. Hobbs graduated from Stapleton High School and the University of Georgia. He was a combat veteran of World War II, a member of the Gibson Masonic Lodge 257, and a member of American Legion Post 229. He was a retired farmer and businessman, running Hobbs Feed and Seed for many years. He served 25 years as a committee member in the Jefferson County ASCS Office, was named Man of the Year in Soil Conservation, and was an honorary GBI agent. Mr. Hobbs was the only child of the late Lee Roy Hobbs and the late Myrtle McNair Hobbs.

Funeral services were held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Avera, on Friday, June 19, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Donald Lumpkin and Rev. Chris New officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his fiancé, Dorothy Hadden; children, Donna (John) Hadden, David (Leisa) Hadden, Marshall (Bonnie) Hadden, and Andrew (Amy) Hadden; grandchildren, Beth (Jacob) Braddock, Chris Hadden, Emily Hadden, Spencer Hadden and Chandler Hadden; great-grandchildren, Ashton Hadden, Riley Braddock, Hunter Hadden and Reese Hadden; and cousin, Evelyn Shaefer.

Pallbearers were Jimmy McNair, Sam Pennington, Jimmy Sutton, Bobby Williams, Jacob Braddock, Chris Hadden, Chandler Hadden and Spencer Hadden.

Honorary Pallbearers were the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Deacons, the Stapleton Fire Department, John Kilgore and Jimmy Rivers.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 55, Avera, Georgia 30803.

Mrs. Louise D. Holley
Mrs. Louise D. Holley, 82, of Gibson entered into rest Thursday, June 18, 2009, in the Gibson Rest and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Holley was a native of Kershaw County, S.C., but had lived in Gibson for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Gibson First Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Don Widener officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Holley; and a son, Lewis Howell.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan (David) Crosby, Baxley; two sons, Terry (Marcia) Howell, Gibson, and William Howell, Thomson; two sisters, Estelle Whitehead and Grace Chalker, both of Gibson; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Robert Lee Jackson

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lee Jackson, 79, of Stapleton were held on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Aldred C.M.E. Church, Warren County, with Pastor Rev. Dr. Willie J. Wiley officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Alvin Dixion Young
Mr. Alvin Dixion Young of Hephzibah entered into rest on Monday, June 15, 2009, at Doctors Hospital.

Mr. Young, a native of Louisville, was a retired as a food administrator with the Bureau of Prisons. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Faith Outreach Christian Life Center.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Faith Outreach Christian Life Center, with Bishop Richard B. Peoples Sr. officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Young; mother, Patsy Young, Louisville; sisters, Patricia Young, Louisville, and Althea Miller, Albemarle, N.C.; brother, Jerome Young, Augusta; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
