Rev. Eugene Murray entered into rest on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, in Wadley.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Blounts Chapel AME Church, Bartow, with Rev. James Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Annie L. Murray, Dayton, Ohio; daughter, Willie Mae Hill, Wadley; two sons, Joe Louis (Carolyn) Hudson, Attleboro, Mass., and Willie Gene Green, Atlanta; stepdaughter, Inez Harbour, Dayton, Ohio; two stepsons, Robert Woods, Vero Beach, Fla., and Arlester Woods, Fredericksburg, Va.; one brother, Oscar Thomas, New Britain, Conn.; 13 grandchildren, three of which were reared as his own, Robert (Annie) Hudson, Louisville, and Wanda H. Taylor and Clara (Tommie) Kemp, Wadley; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James Marvin Napier Sr.
James Marvin Napier Sr., 81, entered into rest on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Gloverville Church, Gloverville, S.C., at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, with his son, Rev. Jimmy Napier, officiating. Interment will follow in the Graniteville Cemetery.

Born to the late William Edward Napier and late Annie Roberson Napier, Mr. Napier was a resident of Aiken County. He was employed by Graniteville Company and Savannah River Plant before entering the ministry. He served as pastor of seven Southern Baptist churches—Mt. Horeb in Wrens, Mt. Lebanon in Augusta, Woodlawn in Baxley, Silvercrest in Augusta, Talatha in Aiken, S.C., Marshall Memorial in Eatonton, and Victory in Milledgeville.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie N. Wardell and Mildred N. Givens; and his brother, William Lewis Napier.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Johnson Napier; three children, James Marvin “Jimmy” Napier Jr. (Barbara), Miriam N. James (Raymond), and Deborah N. Hobbs (Ronnie); his brother, Clarence E. Napier (Joyce); seven grandsons, Jason L. Napier (Liana), Jonathan E. Napier, Justin E. Napier, Bradley A. Hobbs (Tessa), Benjamin R. Hobbs (Sarah), Brandon P. James (Roseann) and Blake M. James; four great-grandchildren, Mia K. Napier, Caroline G. Hobbs, Emily A. Hobbs and Colton B. James.

Pallbearers will be his seven grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will also serve.

Mr. Truman Aaron Reese
Mr. Truman Aaron Reese, 65, of Warrenton on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010.

Funeral services were held at noon on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Fellowship Baptist Church, Mitchell.

Survivors include one son, Truman Eric Reese; three brothers, Alphonza of Sparta, Tracy (Charlene) of Stockbridge and Morris (Cynthia) of Macon; five sisters, Euthressa of Macon, Eudessa of Montgomery, Ala., Myra of Conyers, Delphine of Decatur, and Nora (Robert) of Warner Robins; three aunts, one uncle and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ingram Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Pamela J. Delmoro Walden
Miss Pamela J. Delmoro Walden, 54, of Louisville entered into rest at her residence on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010.

Miss Walden was born to the late Rose Smith Delmoro Cloud and the late Frank Delmoro in Beckley, W.V. She lived in Fort Myers, Fla., before moving to Jefferson County in 1973.

Memorial services were held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ed Chance officiating

She was preceded in death by her daughter, April Walden.

Survivors include her fiancé, John W. Smith; daughter, Angel English (Brent) of Avera; two brothers, Charlie Delmoro and Buddy Cloud; four sisters, Rita Barr, Jennifer Bresina, Angela Lilly and Jamie Wills; and three grandchildren, Dylan English, Chesney English and Mason Padgett.

Mrs. Mildred Jernigan Burke
Mrs. Mildred Jernigan Burke, 89, of Greensboro entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at Boswell Parker Nursing Center in Greensboro.

She was a native of Rowland, N.C., but had lived in Greene County most of her life. Born on July 31, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Lyde Miller Jernigan and Lena Gainey Jernigan. She graduated from Vidette High School and in 1941 married Roy Franklin Burke Sr. in Burke County. They moved to Due West, S.C., where Mr. Burke finished his education. His first principal and teaching job was in Siloam and later in Greensboro where she has lived ever since. Mrs. Burke worked with Hazel Turner at McDonald’s Dress Shop in Greensboro and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at 2 p.m. at McCommons Chapel, with Rev. Dr. James Choomack and Rev. Stephen Jackson officiating. Interment followed at Greensboro City Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Franklin Burke Sr.; a daughter, Sue Burke Rayburn; a son, Roy Franklin Burke Jr.; a great-grandson, Dustin Newsome; and siblings, Margaret Mabry, Alton Jernigan and Sonny Jernigan.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Burke Epps of Greensboro; a sister, Clara J. Jackson of Atlanta; two brothers, John Jernigan of Norfolk, Va., and Bill Jernigan of South Hill, Va.; nine grandchildren, Justin Epps (Rebecca), April Burke, Robbie Burke, Richie Burke, Benjamin Burke, James Burke, Ken Rayburn Jr. (Valerie), Jennie Rayburn and Laura Marht; 15 great-grandchildren, Lanie Epps Pentecost, Tristan Epps, Richard Burton, Ellisa Burke, Brittany Burke, Jo Burke, Samantha Burke, Christopher Burke, Javen Burke, Cloe Burke, MacKenzie Burke, Katie Burke, Jacob Burke, Donavon Burke and Kayla Rayburn; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Justin Epps, Ken Rayburn Jr., James Burke, Paul Hughes, Paul Hughes Jr. and Richard Burton.

Mrs. Mary E. “Tennie” Dixon
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. “Tennie” Dixon, 66, of Wrens, were held on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church, Wrens, with Pastor Rev. Dr. W.L. Jones officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include five children, Tyran Freeman, Wrens, Teresa Miles, Atlanta, David (Mary Ann) Jordan, Wrens, Chiquita Freeman, Grovetown, and Dedrick L. Jordan, Wrens; stepdaughter, Christina Jordan, Warrenton; sisters, Vivian Martin, Oklahoma City, Okla., Lillie Mae Coleman, Opalocka, Fla., Ernestine Jones, Brooklyn, N.Y., Dorothy Dixon, Miami, Fla., Shirley Brown and Stephanie Lamar, both of San Diego, Calif., and Jacklyn Lamar, Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Eric Lamar, Phoenix, Ariz.; one great-uncle, Elijah Lamar; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of relatives, godchildren and friends.

Mrs. Annie Eliza Freeman, 85, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. Freeman was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Morris Mincey and Lillie Bell Whitehead, and the widow of the late Jordan Freeman. She was a member of the Blount Chapel AME Church.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Salter Grove Baptist Church and Blount Chapel CME Church Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Lavon (Tommy) Ricks of Augusta, and Magdalene Hicks of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Mattie Mincey of Norfolk, Va.; grandchildren, Lakeila Laster, Lateria Laster, Tommy Ricks Jr. and Charles Freeman, all of Augusta, Ulysses Hawthorne, Jeanette Hawthorne and Abraham Hawthorne, all of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Ann Freeman of Wadley, Toni Davis of Washington, D.C., Dwight Roberson of Philadelphia, Pa., Curtis Danford of Wadley, and Charles Freeman of Augusta; godchildren, Marion White, Carolyn Turner and Michael Lewis, all of Wadley, Roger Bell Tomlin of Hephzibah, Eloise Gordon of Atlanta, Rickey Mincey of Norfolk, Va., and Edward Gay of Detroit; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Mary Lois Anderson Knight Heggs of Wadley entered into rest on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, in Louisville.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Old Bethel Baptist Church, Bartow, with Rev. Dr. John Harmon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Heggs; three children, Lee Anderson, Sushelia Hodges (Tony) and Lenora (Orion) Curry, all of Bartow; six sisters, Loraine Gilmore, Wadley, Mollie Anderson, Louisville, Elizabeth Boatwright, Nora (Lester) Paige and Ethel (John Henry) Howard, all of Wadley, and Gwendolyn McMillen, Wrightsville; four brothers, Willie James (Ann) Anderson Jr., Jacksonville, Fla., Synder Anderson, Soperton, and Ricky (Rhonda) Howard and Ronnie Howard, all of Wadley; mother-in-law, Willie Mae Heggs; two grandchildren, Tonyale Fields and Detrick Walden; five additional brothers-in-law, two additional sisters-in-law and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Mary Velma Odum Henderson
Mrs. Mary Velma Odum Henderson, 90, of Louisville entered into rest on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, in the Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Henderson was born July 16, 1919, in Kite, a daughter of late Charlie and Clara Odum. She was a homemaker and a member of Louisville United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2009, in the Louisville United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Hibberts officiating. Burial followed in the family plot in the Louisville City Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert W. Henderson Sr.; brothers, Clyde and Wilber Odum; and sisters, Marion Reid and Ruth Davis.

Survivors include a son, Robert W. “Bob” (Carol) Henderson Jr. of Louisville; daughters, Marinell H. (Richard) Armstrong of Statesboro, and Gwen H. (William) Poppell of Evans; brother in-law, Clarence W. (Betty Jean) Henderson Jr. of Louisville; sister-in-law, Eunice Odum of Savannah; eight grandchildren, Sydna Williams, Rich Armstrong, Jason Henderson, Shawn Henderson, Jill Hall, Lindsey Mitchell, Michael Dollar and Bobby Dollar; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers were Greg Hall, Bobby Dollar, Michael Dollar, Jason Henderson, Joe Cox and Larry Atkins.

Funeral services for Ms. Wilhelmenia Robinson Howard, 70, of Wrens were held on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Rev. Dr. W.L. Jones officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Sinquefield Jones
Mrs. Johnnie Mae Sinquefield Jones, 67, of Avera entered into rest on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009.

Mrs. Sinquefield was born on Oct. 31, 1942, to the late Clyde and Mytris Sinquefield Sr. She was born and raised in Avera, where she attended the public schools of Jefferson County. She joined Springfield AME Church at an early age. She was united with her husband, Fletcher Jones Sr., in 1958.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, with Rev. Michael Ephraim officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Brinson Jones; brother, Clyde Sinquefield Jr.; and sister, Genieve Sinquefield.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Elizabeth (John) Adams of Augusta; two sons, Eric Jones of Augusta, and Fletcher (Julie) Jones of Waynesboro; Sallie Mae Braddy of Pompano Beach, Fla., Grace Ann Sims of Augusta, Ruth (Jimmie) Wells and Gertrude Kelly, both of Wrens, and Priscilla Sinquefield of Florida; two stepsisters, Ella Birt Shivers and Ida Bell Pitts; sister-in-law, Ollie Ree Roberts; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Wells and L.M. Mr. Sheely was a native of Burke County, a 1982 graduate of Louisville High School and a member of the Blount Chapel Baptist Church. He repaired small machines.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home Chapel, Louisville, and Ivery Place Cemetery, Vidette.

Survivors include his mother, Eunice Roberson Sheely of Louisville; brothers, Michael V. Sheely, Lorenzo Roberson and Ricky R. Sheely, all of Louisville; sisters, Lavern (Jerry) Jones of Waynesboro, and Gloristene (Larry) Davis of Ellenwood; one aunt, Jessie Mae Williams of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Willie Samuel “Tick” Sheppard, 95, of Hephzibah entered into rest on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at University Hospital.

Mr. Sheppard was born in Avera, and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera, and Sweetwater Baptist Church in Thomson.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Rhodes Sheppard; son, Mervin Sheppard; and his daughter, Linda Wilson.

Survivors include his daughter, Judy (Lynwood) Saxon of Hephzibah; grandchildren, Angie Bowers, Keith Saxon, Noel Saxon and Denise Todd; five great-grandchildren; sister, Ogle Allen of Clearwater, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Keith Saxon, Noel Saxon, Chesly Bennett, Tommy Sheppard, James Sheppard, and Larry Allen.

Miss Anita “Kwan” Taylor
Miss Anita “Kwan” Taylor, 41, of Wrightsville entered into rest on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Miss Taylor was born in Hillsboro County, Fla. She moved to Johnson County in 1972. She was a member of Tarver Grove Baptist Church and she attended the Johnson County Supports and Services Center until its closure.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 2, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Tarver Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery, Bartow.

Survivors include her grandmother, Carrie Lee Cordy of Wrightsville; mother, Pearl White Gaskin, Wrightsville; dad, Leon Gaskin of Davie, Fla.; caretaker and uncle, Rev.
