Dorothy Dixon Haywood

Mrs. Dorothy Dixon Haywood of Warrenville, SC, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001.

Mrs. Haywood, a native of Glascock County, was co-owner with her late husband of the Haywood Curb Market for 20 years. She was a member of the Gloverville Pentecostal Holiness Church.

The funeral was Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Gloverville Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Ron Lawson and Billy Pinson officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy C. Haywood Sr., Gloverville; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bobby Taylor, Richard Durden, Anthony Durden, James Davis, Quitman Hughes and David Randall.

Memorials may be made to the Gloverville Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Hatcher Funeral Home, U.S. Hwy. 1, Langley, SC, was in charge of the arrangements.

Henry Mims Sr.

Mr. Henry Mims Sr. of Augusta died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at University Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae Mims; five daughters, Jacqueline Hill, Beech Island, SC, Linda Mims, Gail Mims, Pam Reaves and Paulette Curry, all of Augusta; four sons, Henry Mims, Roger Mims and Vernon Mims, all of Augusta, and Paul Mims, Wrens; one sister, Clara Curry; 29 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Dent's Undertaking Establishment was in charge of the arrangements.

Vinnia Washington

Mrs. Vinnia Washington of Bartow died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Jefferson Hospital.

The funeral was Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Lee G. Wilcher officiating.

Survivors include one daughter, Effie Mae Powell, Providence, KT; one son, Charlie Brown, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Patricia Hadden Wall

Mrs. Patricia Hadden Wall of Augusta died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001.

A memorial service was held Jan. 1 at 2 p.m. at Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth E. Jones officiating.

Survivors include her brother Glen (Tuc) Hadden, Stapleton; a sister, Marlene McDonald, Augusta; an aunt, Margie Allen, Wrens; and several nieces and nephews.

Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, was in charge of the arrangements.

Roy S. Amerson

Mr. Roy S. Amerson, 78, of Louisville died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital.

Mr. Amerson was a retired farmer, retired superintendent of Louisville Fertilizer & Gin Company, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, member of Gibson Masonic Lodge No. 257, and board member of First Church of Nazarene.

The funeral was Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. at First Church of Nazarene with the Revs. Dennis Johnson and Earl Parrish officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Hawkins Amerson; a son, Wendell Amerson, Norwood; three daughters, Linda A. Eckenroth and Rosalyn A. Flanders, both of Harlem, and Libby A. Mathis, Louisville; three sisters, Ruby Johnson, Augusta, Ann Wilder, Belvedere, SC, and Jean Whitaker, Statesboro; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Tony Amerson, Chris Kersey, George Ratchford, Jamie Johnson, Ken Whitaker, Mike Wilder, Brian Flanders, Christopher Mathis and Derrick Mathis.

Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Hartley and Board Members of Nazarene Church, Frank Thigpen, G. W. Godbee, Bill McGlohorn and Charles Poole.

Johnson-Grier Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Julia Conn Morton Harvey

Mrs. Julia Conn Morton Harvey of Louisville died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, in Louisville.

Mrs. Conn, a native of Gray, was a graduate of GSCW. She taught at Louisville Academy. She was a member of Louisville United Methodist Church.

The funeral was Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Danny Treadway officiating. Burial was in Louisville Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Julia Catherine Harvey Newberry, Gray; her son, Fred K. Harvey Jr., Louisville; her sister, Marjorie Morton Hicks; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were W.F. Easterlin Jr., John Murphy III, John D. Reid, Billie Atkins, H. Heyward Wells Jr. and J. Fredrick Agel.

Memorials may be made to the Louisville United Methodist Church.

Johnson-Grier Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Samuel T.R. Revell Jr., M.D.

Samuel T.R. Revell Jr., M.D., of Bedford, VA, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2001, in Rock Hill, SC.

Dr. Revell, a native of Louisville, was the elder son of the late Samuel T.R. Revell, M.D. and Lettie Jones Revell. Dr. Revell and his late younger brother, Walter Jones Revell, followed their father's example, devoting themselves to a life in medicine. Dr. Revell received his M.D. at the University of Maryland in 1937. He served in the U.S. Medical Corps from 1941-1945 and thereafter began his lifelong career as physician in Baltimore and later as an associate professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, until retiring with his wife, Ruth, to Bedford in 1971. Dedicated to church, family and his country, he was a source of strength, compassion and honor to family and friends. He served as an elder in the Bedford Presbyterian Church.

A private memorial service was held at the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, SC.

Survivors include his children, Ruthanne Ryan, Minneapolis, MN, Samuel T.R.Revell III, Lahaina, HI, Terry LeTourneau, Mooresville, NC, and Lettie Field, Severna Park, MD; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bedford Christian Ministries, 217 Washington St., Bedford, VA 24523.

Geneva W. Chanclor

Mrs. Geneva W. Chanclor of Gibson died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Gibson Health and Rehab.
Mrs. Chanclor, a native of Wilcox County, lived in Gibson for the past five years. She was a member of Union Baptist church.

The funeral was Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, Pitts, with burial following in Union Cemetery, Pitts, with the Revs. Tommy Land and Jack Dowdy officiating. Eulogies were given by Al Crenshaw, Rex Bullock and Billy Hawkins.

Survivors include one daughter, Genice Collins of Evans; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Frazier-Holt Funeral Directors, Rochelle, was in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia Danford

Mrs. Virginia Danford of Wadley died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.

The funeral was Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at Blounts Chapel A.M.E. Church, Bartow, with the Rev. Willie Tomlin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary L. Jones, Marion Danford and Pauline Brown, all of Wadley; three sons, Freddie Lee Danford and Ernest Lee Danford of Wadley, and Albert Goft, Seattle, Wash.; 24 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Betty Jo Johnson

Mrs. Betty Jo Johnson, 53, of Sparta died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at her residence.

Mrs. Johnson, a lifelong resident of Sparta, was a member of Balerma Baptist Church. She was a retired nurse.

The funeral was Jan. 11 at 2:30 p.m. at Balerma Baptist Church, Hancock County, with the Revs. Jeff Summers and Jerry Bradley officiating. Burial was in Knowles Chapel Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Alma May, Sparta; husband, Ronnie Johnson; a son, R. Glenn Johnson; a daughter, Sherry Jo Johnson, all of Sparta; brothers and sisters, Micky May, Ronnie May and Jimmy May, all of Sparta, Faye Demastes, Washington, and Gayle Woodall, Mitchell; and four grandchildren.

Moores Funeral Home, Milledgeville, was in charge of the arrangements.

John E. Polan

Mr. John E. Polan, 76, of Wadley, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Polan, a native of Wetzel County, West Virginia, had lived in Wadley for the past 25 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from the General Motors Corp., with 20 years service. In his younger years he was a coal miner in West Virginia.

The funeral was Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jamie Archer officiating. Burial was in the Wadley Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, John F. Polan, Fitzgerald, and David Polan, Wadley; one daughter, Mary Lou Griffith, Taylor, Mich.; one brother, Samuel F. Polan Jr., Ohio; one sister, Ada Kellerman, Baldwin, Mich.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Lee Polan, Johnny Lee Polan Jr., Gregory Polan, Jimmy Polan, Richard Stavely and Eddie Brown.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Willie "Bo" Walker Jr.

Dea. Robert Willie "Bo" Walker Jr., 55, of Augusta died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at his residence.

The funeral was Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. at Springhill Baptist Church, Blythe, with the Rev. Willie Mincey officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Walker; two sons, Keith Walker, Columbia, and Ronald Wooden, New Jersey; three daughters, Stephine Hocker, Belita Walker, Augusta, and Toicene Lipscomb, Augusta; two brothers, Price Walker Sr., Columbia, and Donald Walker, Deerfield, Fla.; five sisters, Bernice Williams, Cora Bell Walker, both of Waynesboro, Ollie Mae Jones, Keysville, Louvenia Wright, Louisville, Elizabeth Johnson, Rock Island, Ill; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dent's Undertaking Establishment was in charge of the arrangements.
