Wade Hampton Usry

Mr. Wade Hampton Usry, 62, of North Augusta died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at University Hospital.

Mr. Usry was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Avera. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of management with Merry/Boral Brick since 1957.

The funeral was Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Gemell Johnson and Lester Clark officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Melvis Goldman Usry; a son, Lyle Usry, North Augusta.

Pallbearers were Mike McManus, Mike Jenkins, Shean Jenkins, Willie Walker, Bobby Williams, Steve Williams, Lloyd Brassell and Roy Hughes Jr.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

William Luther Sullivan

Mr. William Luther Sullivan, 84, of Wrens died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002.

Mr. Sullivan, a native of Jefferson County, Miss., was a retired electrician. He served his country in the Army in World War II.

The funeral was Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at James Funeral Home with the Revs. Race Lairscy and Joe Walden officiating. Burial was in Walden UnitedMethodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include three brothers, George Sullivan and Dudley Sullivan, both of Louisiana, Otis Sullivan, Virginia; four sisters, Claudia Mae Terrell, Lottie Bell Stephenson and Leoma Raner, all of Mississippi, and Gladys Wade, Texas.

Pallbearers were Maron Milburn, Marvin Reese, John Norris and Tommy Evans.

Gina Marie Cannon Evans

Mrs. Gina Marie Cannon Evans, 34, of Keysville died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

Mrs. Evans, a native of Chicago, Ill., had lived in the Richmond and Burke County areas for the past 24 years. She was a member of Blythe Baptist Church and provider enrollment specialist for Palmetto Government Benefits Administrators.

The funeral was held Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Blythe, with the Rev. Albert "Bucky" Halford officiating. Burial was in Westwood Gardens Memorial Park, Griffin.

Survivors include one son, Joseph Lee Evans, Keysville; her parents, Joseph and Georgina Cannon, Blythe; one stepson, William R. Evans, Keysville; one stepdaughter, Alisa A. Hawkins, Keysville; two sisters, Charlene Perdichizzi-Ponder, Alpharetta and Diane Hipps, Rex; two brothers, George Ziberna, Fayetteville and Joseph Cannon, Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, William B. Evans, Anthony C. Evans, Aleah Hawkins, Erin A. Cosby; one niece, Anna Perdichizzi and three nephews, Sam Perdichizzi, Frank Perdichizzi and Eddie Perdichizzi.

Pallbearers were Cliff Chancey Jr., Ken Chancey, Brett Chancey, Marc Chancey, Wayne Allen and Jay Dunham.

DeLoach Funeral Home, Hephzibah, was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Lee Evans

Mr. Harold Lee Evans, 59, of Keysville died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

Mr. Evans, a native and lifelong resident of Keysville, was a member of Keysville Methodist Church. He was a heavy equipment operator for Larry Pennington Logging Company and a former employee of Louisiana Pacific for over 20 years.

The funeral was held Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Keysville Methodist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Billy Arrington and Joe Walden officiating.

Survivors include two sons, William R. Evans, Keysvilleand Joseph L. Evans, Keysville; one daughter, Alisa A. Hawkins, Keysville; his mother, Mamie S. Gresham, Keysville; two brothers, Dean W. Evans, Keysville and Cecil R. Evans, Keysville; one sister, Mamie Ruth McDonald, Wrens; and four grandchildren, William B. Evans, Anthony C. Evans, Aleah Hawkins and Erin Cosby.

Pallbearers were Glenn W. Evans, Julian Arrington, Aubrey Wheeler, Doug Queen, Harold Knight and Hiram Milburn.

DeLoach Funeral Home, Waynesboro, was in charge of arrangements.

Everett Poole

Mr. Everett Poole, 93, of Keysville, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at the Burke County Hospital.

Mr. Poole was a member of Keysville United Methodist Church and the retired owner of Pooles Grocery in Keysville.

Graveside services will be Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. at the Keysville United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Race Lariscy and Dr. James M. Ford officiating.

Survivors include his wife Margaret Poole, Keysville; a son, Jimmy Poole, Keysville; two daughters, Hazel Eason and Alice Howard, both of Keysville; a brother O.B. Poole, Keysville; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons.

Memorials can be made to the Keysville United Methodist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 107 Keysville, Ga. 30816. James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia R. Vaughn

Mrs. Virginia R. Vaughn, 84, of Wrens died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at University Hospital.

The funeral was Jan. 16 at 3 p.m. at Mount Horeb Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Moore officiating services. Burial was in the Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Brantley Vaughn, Wrens, Jerry Vaughn, Lexington; one daughter, Betty J. Herndon, Stapleton; one brother, A.P. Russell, Wrens; two sisters, Melvin Parrish and Audrey Russell, both of Wrens; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Clarence Holley, Robert Holley, Roger Coxwell, Larry Beckum, Phillip Johnson and Steve Williford.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Albert T. Newman

Mrs. Betty Jo Johnson, 53, of Sparta died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at her residence.

Mr. Albert T. Newman, 78, of Keysville died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Keysville Nursing Home.

Mr. Newman was a member of the Blythe Baptist Church and had retired from the Stapleton Garment Factory.

The funeral was Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home with the Revs. Buddy Frierson and Race Lariscy officiating. Burial was in the Blythe Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Beth Martz, Wrens; a brother, Calton A. Newman, Blythe; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Harvey Hayes, Vester Hayes, T.B. Bartlett, Gordon Bartlett, Donald James and Clifford Chancey.

Inez G. Landrum

Mrs. Inez G. Landrum, 62, of Wrens died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, in Chatham County.

Mrs. Landrum, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Wrens United Methodist Church and the Augusta Lupus Foundation.

The funeral was Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Roy White, Dr. James M. Ford and the Rev. Ben Martin officiating. Burial was in Wrens Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, John Manning, Wrens, and Rusty Manning, Claxton; her mother, Alice Gay, Wrens; a brother, Donald Gay, Wrens; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James Sheppard, Myrion Smith, Raley Clements, Joe Davis, R.G. Rabun, Ernest Rozier, Clark Bennett and Ed Chance.

Mamie Lou Poole Johnson

Mrs. Mamie Lou Poole Johnson of Winter Haven, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002.

The funeral was Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley with the Rev. Tommy Lee Johnson officiating.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Inez Johnson and Peggy Johnson, Wadley; five stepsons, James Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Tommy L. Johnson, Nathan Johnson and Roman Johnson, Wadley; one sister, Lillie Mae Whigham, Wadley; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Travis Gay

Mr. Travis Gay, 35, of Dearing died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Mr. Gay, a native of Richmond County, had lived in Dearing for most of his life. He was a carpenter and had attended Dearing Full Gospel Church.

The funeral was Jan. 16 at 3 p.m. at Dearing Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Eddie Renew officiating. Burial was in the Walker Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Gay; four daughters, Tiffany Luke, Tammy Gay, Wendy Gay and Elizabeth Gay, all of Dearing; a son, Dylan Gay, Dearing; his mother, Margaret Whitaker, Dearing; and two sisters, Terrie Daughtry, Wrens, and Teresa Rockefeller, Dearing.

Pallbearers were Billy Gay, Bobby Black, Tim Clary, Freddie Gay, Allen Prater and Adam Bryant.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

A.P. Russell

Mr. A.P. Russell, 79, of Wrens died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Russell, a native of the Wrens community, served in World War II. Upon discharge from the armed forces he worked on the Georgia railroad until his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 229.

The funeral was Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home with the Revs. Paul Moore and Robert Austin and Dr. James M. Ford officiating. Burial was in Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lonice B. Russell, Wrens; one son, Ronald Russell, Wrens; two step sons, Billy Williford, Thomson, and Marc Williford, Dearing; one daughter, Donna Rabitsch, Millen; one step daughter, Iris Norman, Warrenton; two sisters, Audrey Russell and Melvis Parrish, Wrens; and 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Clarence Holley, Lamar Holley, Robert Holley, Jimmy Wren, Jimmy Black and Don Black.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the American Legion Post #229.

Lottie Mae Byrd Dixon

Mrs. Lottie Mae Byrd Dixon, 78, formerly of Louisville died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002.

Mrs. Dixon, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of the Solomon Temple Baptist Church where she served on the Missionary Board. She was a member of the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society and Morning Light Society.

The funeral was Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Solomon Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Peter Sparks officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her sister, Arletha Byrd Kearse, St. Augustine, Fla.; and four brothers, Joe Ardis Byrd, Wadley, Henry Lee Byrd Sr. and Frank Byrd Jr., St. Augustine, and Thomas Perry Byrd, Jacksonville.

Pallbearers were Michael Lewis, John Roger Lewis, Cornelius Jones, Leroy McKennie, Isaiah Martin and Charles Holmes.
