Mary Lois Hutchins

Mrs. Mary Lois Hutchins, 76, of Wadley died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Hutchens, a native of Jefferson County, was retired. She was a member of the Wadley United Methodist Church.

The funeral was Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. at the Wadley United Methodist Church with the Revs. Eugene Evors and Larry Sauls officiating. Burial was in Wadley City Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Wilma L. Gay, Wadley; two sons, Gary Hutchins, Louisville, and William C. (Billy) Hendricks Jr., Jackson; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Charles Pollett, Joe Walden, Joe Miller, Bob Lamb, Clark Hebert, Chip Evans and John Cholar.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Charlton S. Paul Jr.

Mr. Charlton S. Paul Jr., 38, of Wadley died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Medical College of Georgia.

Mr. Paul, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church.

Memorial services were held Jan. 24 at 3 p.m. at Coleman's Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Charles Wallace and Raymond Fortner officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Ackridge Paul, Wadley; a brother, William Lewis Paul; a sister, Patricia Lynn Paul Bryant, Yuba City, Ca.; and his grandmother, Rosa Herring, Hephzibah.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Charlton S. Paul Jr. family.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James Lemuel (Lem) Keen

Mr. James Lemuel (Lem) Keen, 80, of Dublin died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002.

Mr. Keen attended North Georgia College and Mercer University. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Pacific Theater. He was a life long resident of Dublin except for ten years when he lived in Louisville, serving as plant manager of J.P. Stevens Finishing Plant. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dublin.

Graveside services were Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at Northview Cemetery with the Revs. Wally and Cliff Morris officiating. Burial was in Northview Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothea H. Keen of Dublin; a son, James Lemuel Keen Jr., of Orlando; two daughters, Sula K. Altman of Savannah, and Elizabeth (Betsy) K. Polhill of Louisville; a sister, Sue K. Cook of North Augusta; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the C.D. Graves Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 405 Bellevue, Dublin, GA 31021. Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

B.L. "Spec" Brown

Mr. B.L. "Spec" Brown, 83, of Harlem died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at the Doctors Hospital, Augusta.

Mr. Brown, a native of Wrens, and a resident of Harlem since 1948 was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was an active member of Harlem Baptist Church where he had served as deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a trustee. He was past mayor of Harlem and served as Harlem's first fire chief. Prior to moving to Harlem, Mr. Brown played professional baseball in the Pittsburgh Pirate Organization. He was the owner of Columbia Cleaners in Harlem for 36 years.

The funeral was Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. at Harlem Baptist Church with the Dr. Robert J. Blankenship and the Rev. Philip Vestal officiating. Burial was in Ways Baptist Church Cemetery, Stellaville.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Zeigler Brown; two sons, Robert R. Brown, Harlem, Kenneth W. Brown, Sylvania; one sister, Marian Lawrens, Macon; two brothers, Charles W. Brown, North Augusta, and James B. Brown, Wrens, and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Lewis, Don Jolley, Bengie Moore, John Combs, Mickey Lonergan and Gary Holley.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Harlem Fire Department. Memorials may be made to the Harlem Baptist Church, P.O. Box 790, Harlem, GA 30814. Starling Funeral Home, Harlem, was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert E. Jarrett

Mr. Robert E. Jarrett, 80, of Hephzibah died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002.

Mr. Jarrett attended Wrens Public Schools before the Jarrett family moved to Augusta. He was a retired self-employed dry wall contractor and was a Methodist by faith.

Graveside services were held Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Michael Davenport officiating.

Survivors include his sister, Ida Pappas, Ooletwaa, Tenn.

Pallbearers were nephews.

Elliott Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Lillian Gaines Adams

Mrs. Annie Lillian Gaines Adams, 82, of Elberton died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002.

Mrs. Adams, a native of Elbert County, was a retired elementary school teacher and secretary of the Retired Educators Association. She taught at Wrens Elementary School before her retirement. She attended Elbert First United Methodist Church where she was a member of Manning Co-Ed Sunday School Class.

The funeral was Jan. 13 at Elbert First United Methodist Church with Dr. Wallace E. Wheeler and the Rev. Chandler Adams officiating. Burial was in Elberton Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, E.F. Adams; two sons, John Adams, Newnan, and Don Adams, Elberton; two sisters, Kathleen "Kitty" Eavenson, Dewy Rose and Martha Rice, Athens; a brother, Richard Strother Gaines Jr., Athens; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Elberton First United Methodist Church.

Mary Ann Durden Brown

Mrs. Mary Ann Durden Brown of Louisville died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002.
Mrs. Brown, a native of Memphis, Tenn., grew up in Atlanta and had lived in Louisville since 1953. She was an alumna of the University of Georgia where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She was an educator in Jefferson County for many years and was a founding member of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church.

The funeral was Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church with the Very Reverend Ronald Southerland officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth H. Brown Jr., Silver Spring, Md., and H. Lawson Brown, Louisville; two daughters, Carolyn Brown Mizutani, Kobe, Japan, and Amoret Brown Tully, Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Carolyn Durden Lanier; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Phil Polhill, Walter Jones, Tom Watson, Bill Kitterman, Rick Agel and Robert Cooper.

Memorials may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, Cause for the Cure, 4901 Main Street, Suite 200, Kansas City, Mo. 64112-2634, or to St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, 321 West Seventh St., Louisville, Ga. 30434.

Donald C. Holland

Mr. Donald C. Holland of Augusta died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at University Hospital.

Mr. Holland, a native of Glascock County, had resided in Augusta for 54 years while maintaining a farm and residence in Mitchell. He was a masters electrician and was the owner of Holland Electrical Contractors in Augusta. He was an Army veteran.

The funeral was Jan. 29 at 3 p.m. at Elliott Sons Lumpkin Road Chapel with the Rev. John Raborn officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include two daughters, Kim H. Martin and Janet L. Holland, both of Mitchell; a son, Douglas B. Creamer, Kearneysville, W.Va.; a brother, Doug Holland, Miramar, Fla.; a sister, Jeri Marshall, Lexington, S.C.; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the City of Mitchell Depot Restoration Project, P.O. Box 32, Mitchell, Ga. 30820.

Janice Dukes Ownes

Mrs. Janice Dukes Ownes, 42, of Wrens died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.
Mrs. Owens was a member of the Wrens Church of God. She was employed by the Fresenius Medical Group in Louisville.

The funeral was Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. at the Wrens Church of God with the Revs. Terry Addis and Joe Walden officiating. Burial was in the Ways Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Joey H. Owens; two sons, Kevin Owens and Jason Owens, both of Wrens; her mother and father, John and Jeannie Dukes, Wrens; three brothers, Tony Dukes, Wrens, Jimmy Dukes, Martinez, and Paul Dukes, Wrens. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey Dukes and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schultz.

Pallbearers were Tony Arrington, Ben Wilson, Chase Smith, Barrow Walden, Michael Burke and Jake Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers were the Bridge Builders Sunday School Class of the Wrens Church of God.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society Jefferson County Relay for Life, c/o Karen Walden, P.O. Box 5, Matthews, Ga. 30818.

Nathaniel Paschall Jr.

Mr. Nathaniel Paschall Jr., 55, of Louisville died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2002, in Deerfield Beach, Fla.

The funeral was Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at Lofton African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. King Mack officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Paschall of Fla.; children, Angel Paschall and Dolores Paschall, Shawn Paschall and Calvaire Paschall of Fla., James Walker of Wrens; siblings, Mary F. Paschall, Louisville, Sherry M. Hilton, Jacksonville, Ruby L. Neal and Albert Paschall Sr., Jimmy Paschall of Fla., and Robert Brown of Wrens.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Deacon Earnest Reese

Deacon Earnest Reese of Wadley died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at his residence.

The funeral was Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. at the Marshall Grove Baptist Church, Tennille, with the Rev. Daniel Johnson officiating.

Survivors include are his wife, Elizabeth Hurst Reese, Tennille; four daughters, Earnestine Pinkston and Katherine Walden, Sandersville, Angela Tendell, Toccoa, and Patricia Walden, Atlanta; three sons, Theophilus Reese, Tulsa, Okla., Larry Reese, Brandon, Fla., and Maurice Walden, Tennille; and 12 grandchildren.
