Leila Ann "Orell" Smith Orr

Mrs. Leila Ann "Orell" Smith Orr, 81, of Gibson died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002.

Mrs. Orr, a native of Glascock County, was a resident of Fort Lauderdale for over 50 years and had lived in the Augusta and Gibson area for the past 11 years.

Graveside services were held Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Survivors include a son, Raymond Lamb, Augusta; a daughter, Eva Orr Mullins, Kite; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Starling Funeral Home, Harlem, was in charge of the arrangements.

Almarine Dudley Livingston

Mrs. Almarine Dudley Livingston, 94, of Louisville died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, in the Keysville Nursing Home.

Mrs. Livingston, a native of Warren County, was retired after 40 years of service with the Jefferson County DFCS. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Genealogy Society. She was a member of the Louisville First Baptist Church. She had resided in Louisville most of her life.

Graveside services were held Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. in the Louisville City Cemetery with the Revs. Larry Montgomery and Richard Gardner officiating.

Survivors include three sons, John M. Livingston III, Louisville, William Gilbert Livingston, La Plata, Md., and Robert H. Livingston, Louisville; a daughter, Margaret Hattaway, Peachtree City; three sisters, Ruth D. Shaw, Augusta, Roberta Riley, North Augusta, and Jean Simone, Gibson; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Louisville First Baptist Church Bus Fund.

Johnson-Grier Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bud Rivers McGahee

Mr. Bud Rivers McGahee of Thomson died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at the VA Medical Center.

Mr. McGahee, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in McDuffie County for the past 32 years. He retired as a carpenter at Fort Gordon, serving in the U.S. Army, Navy and Marines. He was a member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church.

The funeral was Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Widener officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Louise McGahee; one step-son, Gregory Royal, Savannah; three step-daughters, Mary Waller and Barbara Durden, both of Thomson, and Iris Lesney, Augusta; two sisters, Mattie Lee Gay, Keysville, and Betty Boss, Harlem; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Tony Stevenson, Kenny Hill, Jerry Scoggins, Chris Durden, Curtis Brown and George Goodman.

Mary Rowland Alexander

Mrs. Mary Rowland Alexander, 88, of Louisville died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at the Gibson Health and Rehab Center.

She was a devoted member of Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Vidette.

The funeral was Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Dr. Roy E. Beckham officiating. Burial was in Rose Dhu Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Jim Alexander, Waynesboro; two daughters, Rosalyn Martin and Ann Bryant, both of Louisville; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Johnson-Grier Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

John Henry Amerson
Mr. John Henry Amerson, 81, of Hephzibah died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at his residence.

Mr. Amerson, a native of Jefferson County, had been a resident of Richmond County for the past 31 years. He was a retired farmer and a member of Crossroads Evangelistic Church, Matthews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Bell Amerson.

The funeral was Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. at DeLoach Funeral Home Chapel, Hephzibah, with the Rev. William "Bill" Arrington officiating. Burial was in the Mount Moriah Church Cemetery, Matthews.

Survivors include five daughters, Agnes "Tootsie" Prickett, Keysville, Darlene Atkinson, Matthews, Nora Newsome, Sherry Grindle and Sandra Willard, all of Hephzibah; two sons, John Lewis Amerson and Lonnie J. Amerson, both of Hephzibah; one brother, William "Buddy" Arrington, Hephzibah; three sisters, Ethel Mae Lord, Hephzibah, Lena Clark, Wadley and Mattie Stringler, Statesboro; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James Atkinson, Matt Majeski, Greg Coursey, T.S. Alley, John Bowers and Kent Wright.

Luther Monroe Arrington
Mr. Luther Monroe Arrington, 84, of Matthews died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at the Burke County Medical Center.

Mr. Arrington was a member of the Wrens Church of God. He was a retired foreman with the Georgia Tennessee Mining and Chemical Company. He also served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

The funeral was Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home in the chapel with the Revs. Terry Addis and James Shope officiating. Burial was in the Church of God Cemetery in Matthews.

Survivors include his wife, Dennie Arrington, Matthews; and a brother, Earl N. Arrington, Thomson.

Pallbearers were his nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Wrens Church of God Building Fund at 102 Phillips Street NW, Wrens, Ga. 30833.

Sylvia Darlene Stepp
Ms. Sylvia Darlene Stepp, 42, of Wrens died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, in Atlanta.

The funeral was Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. at Stone Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Leroy Britt Sr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Aleshia Hobbs, Ronnie Stepp Jr., Terrance Stepp and Timious Stepp, all of Atlanta; sisters, Sallie Whitfield, St. Petersburg, Fla., Eloise Walker, Mable Berry, Pauline Patterson, Tilesa Hobbs, Carolina Hobbs and Gertrude Little, all of Wrens; brothers, Johnny Hobbs, Robert Hobbs and Wayne Hobbs, all of Wrens, Andrew Hobbs, Atlanta, Albert Hobbs, New York, Henry Oliphant, Augusta, Newt Oliphant, Wrens, Willie Oliphant, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Rashad Oliphant, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James Wilson Cobb Sr.
Mr. James Wilson Cobb Sr. died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002.

The funeral was Feb. 19 at Straight Gate Church of God in Midville, Burke County, at noon with the Rev. Roosevelt Moss officiating.

Survivors include six daughters, Agnes Cobb Jones, Lutisha Bajamour and Maggie Whatley of Midville, Flora Hill, Louisville, Shirley Baldwin, Dearing, and Annie Phillips, Hephzibah; four sons, James Cobb Jr. and Rensiabell Cobb, Midville, Maxie Cobb, Millen, and Rickey Lindsley, Kernersville, NC; one sister, Lula Mae Benefield, Augusta; one brother, Robert Cobb, Louisville; 31 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Farris Kelley
Mrs. Farris Kelley, 92, of Thomson died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, in the Thomson Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Kelley, a native of Warren County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Herbert Kelley and a daughter, Patricia Newsome.

The funeral was Feb. 17 at 3:30 p.m. at Zoar United Methodist Church with the Revs. Bill Seaman and Joey Holloway officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include three granddaughters, Carlene Newsome, Stapleton, Kathy N. Williams, Avera, and Leigh Anne Usry, Appling; a grandson, Keith P. Newsome, Gibson; four sister, Rebie Purvis, Myrtle Rabun, Myrtis Bowen, all of Thomson, and June Hunnicutt, Stapleton; and 10 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Carl Bowen, Plemon Hobbs, Keith Newsome, Warren Kitchens, Wilbur Purvis and Ronnie Rabun.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Zera M. Harris
Mrs. Zera M. Harris, 76, of Gibson died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002.

The funeral was Feb. 17 at Piney Grove Baptist church with the Rev. George Ivey officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Crawford Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Lucille McGahee
Mrs. Lucille McGahee, 86, of Dearing died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Gibson Rest Home.

Mrs. McGahee, a lifelong resident of McDuffie County, was a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

The funeral was Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, Thomson, with Donnie Sterrett officiating. Burial was in the Dearing City Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Usry, Gibson, and Becky Fulcher, Greenville, SC; three sons, David McGahee and Gerald McGahee, both of Dearing, and Mack McGahee, Lincolnton; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were George Goodman, Aubrey Usry, Tony Usry, Jimmy Fulcher, Kevin Usry and Andy Fulcher.

Charlie B. Warnock
Mr. Charlie B. Warnock, 87, of Wadley died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Glendale Nursing Home.

Mr. Warnock was born in Montgomery County and had lived in Wadley for the past 56 years. He was retired as a city manager of Wadley. He was a member of Wadley United Methodist Church where he served as past chairman of the Official Board and Treasurer of Will Evans Sunday School Class. He was a Mason, a Cub Scout Leader and served on the Wadley City Council.

The funeral was Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. at Wadley United Methodist Church with the Revs. Larry Sauls and Don Proctor officiating. Burial was in the Wadley City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Eubanks Warnock; two sons, Charles Warnock, Dublin, and Clay Warnock, Mableton; a daughter, Brenda Binns, Augusta; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Danny Brooks, Tommy Battle, Craig Miller, Bob Swan, David Warnock and E.B. Lamb III.

Honorary pallbearers were the Administrative Board of Wadley United Methodist Church.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Dollie P. "Dot" Hudson
Mrs. Dollie P. "Dot" Hudson, 72, of Wrens died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002.

The funeral was Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. at Ways Grove Baptist Church, Stellaville, with the Rev. Jimmy McCollough III officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy J. Hudson, Warrenton, Margaret Grier, Dearing, Faye S. Hudson, Wrens; three sons, Charlie B. Hudson, Robert L. Hudson and Kenneth Hudson, Wrens; six brothers, Alexander Beasley, Atlanta, Thomas Beasley, William Beasley, Oscar Beasley, Charlie Beasley and John Beasley, all of Wrens; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Clinton M. Wilkerson
Mr. Clinton M. Wilkerson, 60, of Mitchell died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002.

Mr. Wilkerson, a native of Glascock County, had lived in Washington County for the past 30 years and was a member of Pine Hill United Methodist Church. He was a member of Little River and Washington County Cattlemens' Association and the American Simmental Association.

The funeral was Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill United Methodist Church in Washington County with the Revs. Charles Wallace, Henry McMichael and Kenneth Watkins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Ennis Wilkerson; one daughter, Tammy W. Cheely, Mitchell; two brothers, J.W. Wilkerson, Gibson, and Ernest "Doc" Wilkerson, Grovetown; three sisters; Nealie Chalker, Gibson, Frankie Benson, Norwood, Belva Reese, Martinez, and Vella Gilliams; and his father and mother-in-law, Felton and Doris Ennis, Mitchell.

Pallbearers were Larry Kent, David Daniels, Joey May, Donnie McNair, Sam Mitts and Chris Tims.
