Jeanne Rabun Howell
Mrs. Jeanne Rabun Howell, 77, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, in Richmond, Va.

Mrs. Howell, a native of Stapleton, was a longtime resident of Martinsville, Va. She was a graduate of Mercer University and was a retired teacher from the Martinsville City School System. She served on the board of the Blue Ridge Regional Library and was a member of First United Methodist Church where she participated in the Chancel Choir and Wesley Guild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Howell, and by her parents, Lee Walton Rabun and Louise Waller Rabun.

A graveside service was held Jan. 1, 2002, at Roselawn Burial Park. A memorial service followed at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Mateer officiating.

Survivors include her son, Mark W. Howell, Charlotte, NC; daughters, Louise H. Cox and Marcia H. Marsh, both of Richmond; one sister, Barbara Rabun Embry; one brother, Lee Walton Rabun Jr., both of Alpharetta; and five grandchildren.

Norris Funeral Services Inc. and Crematory was in charge of the arrangements.

Rosa B. Wren Phillips
Mrs. Rosa B. Wren Phillips, 91, of Keysville died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Keysville Nursing Home.

The funeral was March 5 at 2 p.m. at the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Moore officiating. Burial was in the Wrens City Cemetery.

Survivors include four daughters, Evelyn Kauffman, Augusta, Jeanette Hackle, Meeks, Betty Moxley, Sandersville, and Judy Yates, Mount Airy; three sons, Billy J. Wren, Milledgeville, Bobby Wren, McIntyre, and David Wren, Hephzibah; stepdaughter, Doris Thompson, St. George, SC, four stepsons, Thurmond Phillips, Yemassee, SC, Robert Phillips, Lee Phillips and Wilbur Phillips, St. Helena, SC; a sister, Annie Kate McGahee, Wadley; one brother, Leonis Gay, Wrens; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 16 great great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Kauffman, Chris Yates, Jeffrey Yates, Jeremy Whitt, Michael Wren and Joshua Wilkerson.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 1899 Central Avenue, Augusta, Ga. 30904.

Jerry Oliver Hudson
Mr. Jerry Oliver Hudson, 54, of Swainsboro died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002.

Mr. Hudson, a native of Emanuel County, was a former deputy with Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association and a member of Mt. Shady Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Oliver Hudson Jr.

The funeral was March 2 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Shady Baptist Church with the Rev. Wilmer Hall officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Tara H. Herringdine, Wrens, and Sandi Hudson, Swainsboro; two sons, Brent Hudson, Swainsboro, and Walden Hudson, Louisville; his mother, Sara Hudson Claxton, Swainsboro; four sisters, Judy H. Moore, Barbara H. Strickland and Jessie H. Garrett, all of Swainsboro, and Linda H. Flanders, Tampa, Fla.; two step-brothers, Harold Claxton and Lewis Claxton, Swainsboro; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers were Teddy Jackson, David Hannah, Robert Chalker, Greg Newsome, Herbie Brett and Ronald Wiggins.

Honorary pallbearers were McDuffie County GBI, Wrens Police Department, Zollie Compton and Logan Marshall.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Shady Baptist Church.

Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Nancy Plemmons Oglesby
Mrs. Nancy Plemmons Oglesby, 63, of Augusta died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at her residence.

Mrs. Oglesby, a native of Emanuel County, was a secretary with Cat Tree Co. in Wadley. She was a member of the Midville Baptist Church and a former member of the Eastern Star.

A graveside service was held March 2 at 11 a.m. in the Midville City Cemetery with the Revs. Terry Joiner and Tom Harrison officiating.

Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Samples, Augusta; one son, Chris Oglesby, Wadley; one brother, Ricky Plemmons, Bartow, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Alma D. Parish
Mrs. Alma D. Parish, 98, of Stapleton died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at University Hospital in Augusta.

A graveside service was held Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Stapleton Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Donnie Chapman officiating.

Survivors include one son, Leonard Parish, Savannah; two daughters, Betty Sue Parish and Marie Parish Odom, both of Stapleton; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Parish is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Grady Parish.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Deacon Tommie McKennie
Deacon Tommie McKennie of Wadley died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Glendale Nursing Home, Wadley.

The funeral was March 3 at 2 p.m. at Solomon Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Peter Sparks officiataing.

Survivors include six daughters, Willie Mae Cobb, Minnie Mae McKennie, Rosa Mae Braddy, Ethel Mae Thomas and Brenda Corley, Wadley, and Isabell Smith, Clay, NY; six sons, Tom Edward McKennie, Leroy McKennie and John Henry McKennie, Wadley, Freddie Lee McKennie, Columbia, SC, Jeff Bennett, Louisville, and Albert Bennett, Atlanta; 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Cleveland "Sunny" Aldred
Mr. Cleveland "Sunny" Aldred of Thomson died Friday, March 1, 2002.

The funeral was March 8 at 2 p.m. at Jones Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Mixon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie B. Aldred; three daughters, Sheila Mathis, Janice Berry and Loretta Demmons, all of Dearing; a stepdaughter, Rosella Winfrey, Gibson; five sons, Cleveland Harris, Oscar B. Aldred, Dearing, Wallace Aldred, Thomas Aldred and John Aldred, all of Thomson; two brothers, Johnny Aldred, Thomson, and Garfield Aldred, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Christine Lewis, Dearing; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of the arrangements.

Ernestine Allen Coleman
Mrs. Ernestine Allen Coleman, 88, of Goldsboro, NC, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Coleman, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late William and Farrie May Allen and the widow of William Edward Coleman. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Goldsboro.

The funeral was March 7 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Goldsboro, with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Graveside services were March 9 at 2 p.m. at Wadley City Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Kirkland, Goldsboro; a son, Jimmy Coleman, Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Doris Southerland, Augusta, and Myrtle Screws, Swainsboro; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Mobley Fleming
Mrs. Mary Mobley Fleming, 84, of Wrens died Monday, March 4, 2002.

Mrs. Fleming was a housewife. She was also active in the Children's Department at the Wrens United Methodist Church where she was a member. She was an active member in the PTA in Wrens and involved in the Cub Scouts.

The funeral was March 6 at 2 p.m. at the James Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Ben Martin and Roy White officiating.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Fleming, Wrens; a daughter, Mary Jo Fleming McBride, Winston Salem, NC; two brothers, Otis W. Mobley, Augusta, Herbert Mobley, Waynesboro; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James E. Fleming Sr.

Pallbearers were Charles Milburn, Jeff Jones, Raley Clements, Hugh Fleming, Jerry Weeks, Mac Reeves, Burney Thompson and Johnny Rabun.

Memorials may be made to the Wrens United Methodist Church Building Fund, 202 Russell Street NW, Wrens, Ga. 30833 or to the American Cancer Society Jefferson County Relay For Life, c/o Karen Walden, P.O. Box 5, Matthews, Ga. 30818.

Johnnie Smith
Mrs. Johnnie Smith of Bartow died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital.

The funeral was March 5 at 3 p.m. at Tarvers Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. K.E. Phillips officiating.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Lucille Hudson, Miami, Fla.; a stepson, Ranson Smith, Brooklyn, NY; two sisters, Annette Williams and Ernesting Webb, College Park; three brothers, Allen Solomon, Ocilla, William Solomon, Central Islip, NY, and Johnny Clarence Williams, Louisville, Ken.; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Bridgette R. Walden
Mrs. Bridgette R. Walden died on Monday, March 4, 2002, at the Medical College of Georgia.

The funeral was March 11 at First Baptist Church in Wadley at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Brinson Hill Church Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Xavier T. Walden and Maurice D. Flournoy of Wadley; her mother and stepfather, Rosena and Earnest Lattimore, Wadley; her father and stepmother, Omar and Nakiya Peterson, Tennille; four sisters, Cassandra Heggs, Augusta, Betty Peterson, Tennille, Kyalamboka Peterson, Roxbury, Mass., and Shamekia Peterson, Dorchester, Mass.; six brothers, John H. Walden, Wadley, Willie Peterson, Lynn, Mass., Louis Peterson, Brockton, Mass., Bobby Peterson, Tarpon Spring, Fla. and Asim Peterson and Omari Peterson, Roxbury, Mass.; paternal grandmother, Ethel Peterson, Tennille.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Lena Braddy Wood
Mrs. Lena Braddy Wood, 93, of Augusta died Monday, March 4, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital.

Mrs. Wood, a native of Glascock County, was the daughter of the late Elbert Braddy and the late Josephine Hawkins Braddy. She was a longtime resident of Augusta and a member of Baker Woods Baptist Church where she was also a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.

The funeral was March 7 at Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Ellis Moore officiating. Burial was in Westover Memorial Park.

Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Betty W. Jones and Mrs. Helen W. Landing, both of Augusta; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Randall Jones, Jack L. Dugan, Leonard Dye, Larry P. Dye, Jerry B. Dye and Edward Braddy.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Dorcas Sunday School Class at Baker Woods Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Baker Woods Baptist Church, 470 Fury's Ferry Road, Augusta, Ga. 30909.

Lillie Wilson Adams
Mrs. Lillie Wilson Adams of Wadley died Sunday, March 10, 2002, in Louisville.

The funeral was March 16 at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley at 11 a.m.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Lannie Mae Prosser and John Willie Brown, Wadley, and Johnny C. Brown Jr., Bartow.

Louise J. Dawson
Mrs. Louise J. Dawson, 89, of Gibson died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson.

Mrs. Dawson, a native of Warren County, was a Methodist. She was a retired stock clerk at an automobile dealership.

The funeral was March 17 at 3 p.m. at Sheppard Funeral Home Chapel with the Bishop Steve Lamb officiating. Burial was in the Gibson First Baptist Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Mary Dawson Price, Morrow; two sisters, Ruth Jacobsen, Gibson, and Dora Hamrick, Lizella; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Roy Black, Thomas Chalker, Lee Griffin, Bobby Davis, Billy Wasden and Jake Pollard.
