Ike Lee Tarver
Mr. Ike Lee Tarver of Wadley died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.

The funeral was May 5 at 3 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley. Burial was in the Live Oak Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Joann Brown Tarver; four daughters, Tabitha Tarver, Wrens, Yvonne Williams, Vidalia, Jamie Williams and Lakeycia Williams, both of Wadley; three sons, Stephen Tarver, Wrens, James Williams, Augusta, and Michael Williams, Wadley; four sisters, Marie Brown and Marion Johnson, both of Wadley, Lorraine Williams, Jacksonville, Fla. and Catherine Swint, Louisville; two brothers, Lamar Williams, Wadley, and Edward (Eddie) Williams, Jacksonville, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Emory Percy Dixon
Mr. Emory Percy Dixon, 70, of Girard died Monday, April 29, 2002, at University Hospital.

Mr. Dixon, a native and lifelong resident of Burke County, was a retired farmer. He was owner of Dixon Peanut Company and Dixon Farms. He was a member and deacon of Sardis Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Air Force.

The funeral was May 2 at 2:30 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Dixon, Dr. Greg Clements and Dr. Bill King officiating. Burial was in Sardis Baptist Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Malona Mills Dixon; three sons, Randal P. Dixon, Michael T. Dixon and Dale Oglesby, all of Girard; two brothers, Shelly Willard Dixon, Augusta, and Willie Clyde Dixon, Girard; three sisters, Genee D. Barnes, Augusta, Shirley D. Campbell, Sardis, and Elaine D. Wren, Vidalia; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jackie Lovett, C.J. DeLaigle, Henderson Upchurch, DeRossie DeLaigle, Grady Mobley, Jimmy Dixon, Bill Craven and Bill Chance.

Memorial may be made to Edmund Burke Academy Building Fund, P.O. Box 787, Waynesboro, GA 30830, or Sardis Baptist Church, P.O. Box 280, Sardis, GA 30456.

DeLoach Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Franklin D. Bunn
Mr. Franklin D. Bunn, 68, of Midville died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at his residence.

Mr. Bunn, a native and life long resident of Burke County, retired from Union Camp Corporation as a foreman, after 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a musician and talented fiddle player most of his life. Franklin was a Christian, a Free and Accepted Mason and a member of the Garfield Masonic Lodge.

Graveside services were held May 3 at 3 p.m. at Midville City Cemetery with the Rev. Leonard Quick officiating.

Survivors include two sons, John W. Bunn, Midville and Franklin D. Bunn Sr., Athens; a brother, John Bunn, Cedar Hill, Tenn.; two sisters, Audrey Odom, Midville and Betty Lewis, Louisville; a stepson, Michael Jones, Virginia Beach, Va.; a stepdaughter, Susan Collins, Eastman; and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2623 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

DeLoach Funeral Home, Waynesboro, was in charge of the arrangements.

Harold M. Billups
Mr. Harold M. Billups, 84, of Wadley died April 25, 2002, at V.A. Medical Center, Augusta.

The funeral was May 1 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Bennie Brinson officiating. Burial was in Green Cemetery.

Jogresan Mortuary Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Sue Paul Walden
Mrs. Betty Sue Paul Walden, 55, of Wrens died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at her residence.

Mrs. Walden was a member of Wrens Baptist Church and a member of the John Franklin Wren Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was the Senior Vice President in charge of Operations at First State Bank, she was also the Senior Vice President of CSRA Bank Corp. with First State Bank where she was employed for 30 years.

She was an active member with the Community Bankers Association and Georgia Bankers Association. She was recently named Citizen of the Year by the Wrens Kiwanis Club.

The funeral was May 3 at 1 p.m. at Wrens Baptist Church with the Revs. Race Lariscy, Al Haywood and Dr. James M. Ford officiating. Burial was in Wrens Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, James L. Walden, Wrens; two sons, Jeff Walden and wife Kristy of Wrens and Andy Walden and wife Angela of Wrens; two brothers, James Paul, Wrens, Bill Paul, Lakeland, Fla.; four sisters, Anne Coker, Jacksonville, Fla., Jeannette Worsham, Augusta, Bobbie Reese, Wrens, Patricia Hobbs, Wrens; two grandchildren Adam Walden and Rachel Walden; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were the Directors of First State Bank Jerry Dowdy, Hugh Fleming, Jimmy Fleming, Jim Gay, Joe Gore, Henry Jones, Ted Johnson, Tom Lamb, Bobby Lewis, Charles Lewis, R.G. Rabun, Ott Stephens and Brian Whitaker.

Honorary pallbearers were the employees of First State Bank.

Memorial may be made to the Wrens Baptist Church, P.O. Box 217, Wrens, GA 30833.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mattie Rae Eudy
Mrs. Mattie Rae Eudy, 80, of Wrens died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at her residence.

Graveside services were held May 2 at 2 p.m. at the Wrens Memorial Cemetery with the Revs. John Jenkins and Race Lairscy officiating.

Survivors include two daughters, Lou Eudy and Sue Hastings, both of Wrens; one brother, Ray Jordan Jr., Wrens; and one sister, Christine Kirkland, Avondale Estates.

Pallbearers were her nephews.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30910.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gail Durden Meadows
Mrs. Gail Durden Meadows, 62, of Wadley died Friday, May 3, 2002, at her residence.

Mrs. Meadows, a native of Bibb County, was a homemaker and a member of Coleman's Chapel United Methodist Church.

The funeral was May 5 at 3 p.m. at Wadley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Lumpkin, Dr. Larry Sauls and Gary Hutchins officiating. Burial was in the Coleman Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Dennis Meadows Sr.; two sons, George Durden Meadows and Raymond Dennis Meadows, both of Wadley; and two sisters, Patricia Reid, Macon, and Mary Smith, Toccoa.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Harden
Miss Alice Harden of Louisville died Friday, May 10, 2002, at National Health Care Center.
Miss Harden was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Ada Dismuke Harden, a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and a member of Waldens United Methodist Church. She was retired from J.P. Stevens Co. in Louisville.

The funeral was May 13 at 11 a.m. at Waldens United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marvin Goodman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Lucille Harden Poole, Augusta; one brother, Charles W. Harden, Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were the men of Waldens United Methodist church.

Memorials may be made to the Waldens United Methodist Church, Waldens Church Road, Avera, GA 30803.

Joseph P. Hill Jr.
Mr. Joseph P. Hill Jr., 54, of Bartow died Monday, May 13, 2002, at his residence.

Mr. Hill was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and had lived in Columbus, Ohio, for many years before moving to Bartow 10 years ago. He was owner of S.T.S., Inc. and The Spotted Dog Antique Store in Bartow. He was a member of the Bartow Volunteer Fire Department, the Bartow Schoolhouse Players, The Bartow Community Club and also was a train enthusiast.

The funeral was May 15 at 2 p.m. at Bartow United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Howell and Hubert Jordan officiating. Burial was in the Bartow City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Stanley Hill; mother, Frances R. Hill, Wadley; mother-in-law, Lessie Stanley, Whitesburg; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Marian and Leon Robinson, Whitesburg, Joan and Merrill Stanley, Corinth, Jan and Leslie Stanley, Rex; several nieces and nephews; and Patches, Daley, Laney, Willie, Orphan Jim and Escargot Hill.

Pallbearers were members of Bartow Volunteer Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bartow Volunteer Fire Department in memory of Mr. Hill.

Arthur Garnett Screws Sr.
Mr. Arthur Garnett Screws Sr., 81, of Dellwood died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Jenkins County Hospital, Millen.

Mr. Screws, a native of Jefferson County, was a WWII Army veteran and was retired from Thermo King.

The funeral was May 8 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with the Revs. Kelmer Durden and Morris Brantley officiating. Burial was in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Marsh Screws; three daughters, Mary Woods, Swainsboro, Betty Crawley, Augusta and Janice Black, Wadley; two sons, Arthur Screws Jr., Twin City, and Steve Screws, Dellwood; one sister, Josey Hadden, Wrightsville; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Lynwood Newsome, Lee Hodges, Darryl Green, Tommy Waters, Bobby Whipple and David Butler.

Helen L. Arrington
Mrs. Helen L. Arrington, 72, of Wrens died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson.

Mrs. Arrington was a native of Jones and Jasper County, Miss. She was a retired manager for Jet Food Store Corporation and a member of the Union Seminary Baptist Church in Moss, Miss.

A funeral service was held May 13 at 10 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Race Lariscy and Roy White officiating. A memorial service was held May 14 at 3:30 p.m. at the Memory Chapel Funeral Home, Laurel, Miss., with the Revs. Buddy Jenkins and Jimmy Manning officiating. Burial was in the Sharon Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Arrington, Wrens; two sons, James C. Lampkin, Laurell, Miss. and Jack Arrington, Fredricksburg, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Grant "Sherry" Kelley, Stringer, Miss.; a brother, William P. Myers; and sister, Mrs. John "Gracie" McGraw, both of Laurel; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Perry G. Kelley, Christopher Arrington, Mike Manning, Steven Bernier, Mike Myers and Wendell Hosey.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 325 8th Street, Augusta, GA 30901.

Annell Henderson Smith
Mrs. Annell Henderson Smith, 86, of Wadley died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at her residence.

Mrs. Smith was born in Fargo and had lived in Wadley all her life. She was a member of Wadley Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday school class. She had served as Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. During World War II she worked as clerk of the United States Selective Service for Jefferson County. She retired at the age of 75 as co-owner of Wadley Florist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donovan E. Smith and her sister, Bufort Greenway Davison.

Graveside services were held May 10 at 11 a.m. at the Wadley City Cemetery with the Revs. Donald Lumpkin and Tom Harrison and Dr. Ernest Purcell officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Wadley First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Smith Lamb and Davey Lamb, Wadley; a son, Louis D. Smith, Wadley; a brother, Pete Henderson, Wadley; a sister, Mary Rogers, Ooltewah, Tenn.; an aunt, Mary Julia Peterson, Wadley; two granddaughters, Tracy Reece, Gainesville, Fla., and Ashley Lampp, Sandersville; a grandson, Andrew Smith, Sandersville; two great-grandchildren and Max.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
