Roger Lee Heggs Sr.
Mr. Roger Lee Heggs Sr., 52, of Louisville died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002.

Mr. Heggs, a native of Jefferson County, was employed by Davis-McGraw Furniture. He was a Baptist.

The funeral was Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. at the Magnolia Baptist Church with Pastor Perry Daniels officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia D. Heggs, Wadley; his son and daughter-in-law, Roger (Janise) Heggs Jr., San Diego, Calif.; siblings, Delores (James) Cobbs, Midville, Bessie J. McGruder, Wadley, Junior Heggs Jr., Melvin (Gloria) Heggs, Louisville, Ernest (Shirley) Heggs, Sandersville, Angela (Wendell) Tarver, Advease (Jesse) Dogan, Louisville; two step-children, Lachandra (Shyann) Fields, Norfolk, Va., Charles Strowbridge Jr., Wadley; two grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Julia Pearl, Wadley; father-in-law, James Johnson, Wadley; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Willie Mae and Donald Brantley, Bobbie Jean Johnson, Curtis and Tracy Johnson, James and Linda Ann Johnson and Reggie Johnson, all of Wadley, Lamar and Dedria Johnson, Macon; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ryse Holloway Jr.
Mr. Ryse Holloway Jr., of Louisville, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at the Glendale Nursing Home, Wadley.

Mr. Holloway, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Mays Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral was Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. at the Mays Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Survivors include four daughter, Vera (Michael) Ruff, Virginia Beach, Va., Alicia (Leartica) Bynes, Kehaune Holloway and Karen McGrudger, Louisville; five sons, Twane Holloway, Kenneth Holloway and Timothy Huff, Louisville, Michael McGrudger, Waynesboro, and Gregory McGrudger, Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Gertrude Nelson and Fannie Mae Hudson, Augusta; one brother, Robert Lacey Walker, New York; and 11 grandchildren.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Hannah Roberts
Mrs. Mary Hannah Roberts, 81, of Swainsboro died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at the Swainsboro Nursing Home.

Mrs. Roberts, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in Wadley most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Roberts.

The funeral was Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Meeks officiating. Burial was in Dublin Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Henry, Swainsboro; three sons, Wayne Roberts, Waterfall, Pa., Raymond Roberts, Dublin, and Glenn Roberts, Midville; a sister, Ann Duncan, Lithia Springs; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

James W. Peebles
Mr. James W. Peebles, 83, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, in University Hospital.

Mr. Peebles, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in Stapleton for many years. He was a retired clerk. He was a member of the Clifford Memorial Presbyterian Church and was an Army veteran of WWII.

The funeral was Aug. 28 at 3 p.m. in the Curtis Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Frank Thigpen and Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include five sisters, Lois Tankersley and Vera Allen, Thomson, Gladys Hammett, Dearing, Louise Newman, Grovetown, and Dorothy McNair, Stapleton; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jerry Tankersley, Dennis Allen, Emory McNair, Bobby Newman, Mike Peebles and Ronald Russell.

Memorial may be made to the American Lung Association.

Charles Edward "Lee" Williams
Mr. Charles Edward "Lee" Williams, 68, of Cross, S.C., died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002.

A memorial graveside service was held Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. at the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Gertrude Williams, Louisville; two sons, Samuel Brian Williams, Raleigh, N.C., and Mitch Williams, Queens, N.Y.' one daughter, Sandra Lea Carlson, Pullman, Wash.; two brothers, Jim Williams, Atlanta, and Dennis Williams, Stapleton; two sisters, Betty Wasden and Ruth Smith, Louisville; and four grandchildren.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bishop Bennett Jr
Mr. Bishop Bennett Jr. of Wadley died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002.
The funeral was Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Wadley. Burial was in the San Clair Cemetery, Wadley.

Survivors include five daughters, Vallie Mae Danford and Annie Lee Telfair, Wadley, Christine Thompson, Waterbury, Conn., Annie Henry, East Orange, N.J. and Rebecca Jones, Miami, Fla.; two sons, Edward W. Bennett, Jacksonville, Fla. and Johnnie B. Bennett, Brooklyn, NY; one sister, Stella Pierce, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; one brother, Ed Willie Bennett, Burkeville, Va.; 35 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Martha J. Carroll
Mrs. Martha J. Carroll, 81, of Louisville died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Hospice-Savannah.

Mrs. Carroll, a native of Moultrie, had spent most of her adult life in Louisville. She was a graduate of GSCW with a degree in music and was a gifted pianist. She taught private piano, organ and voice lessons in Louisville for many years and also taught public school music at Louisville Academy. After the death of her husband, Navy Lt. Edward (Buddy) Carroll Jr., she moved to Vidalia and later to Magnolia Manor in Richmond Hill. Her last residence was John Wesley Villas in Savannah.

A graveside service was held Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Gayle C. Allen, Rincon; one son, Thomas F. Carroll, Forsyth; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Springfield First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 237, Springfield, GA 31329.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ricky Wayne Gay
Mr. Ricky Wayne Gay, 43, of Gibson died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002.

Mr. Gay was a pallet plant manager at Battle Lumber Company, Wadley, and a member of Wrens Methodist Church.

The funeral was Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. in the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. W.E. Croft officiating. Burial was in the Ways Baptist Church Cemetery, Stellaville.

Survivors include a daughter, Megan Gay, Stapleton; and one brother, Jimmy R. Gay, Wrens.

Pallbearers were Tim Lumpkin, Craig Miller, Tommy Battle, Jeff Jones, Bob Swan and Andy Calhoun.

Honorary pallbearers were the pallet shop employees of Battle Lumber Company.

Memorials may be made to the Megan Gay Scholarship Fund, c/o First State Bank, P.O. Box 555, Wrens, GA 30833.

R. B. Jackson
Mr. R. B. Jackson, 99, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta.

Mr. Jackson, a native of Johnson County, was a farmhand and a former service station attendant with C.R. Morris service station in Bartow. He was the son of the late Mr. Willie Arthur Jackson and the late Ms. Vina B. Webb.

The funeral was Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. at Tarvers Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Ms. Martha Ann Howard and Ms. Joann Hall of Bartow; and Ms. Ethel Jackson, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and two raised as his own daughters, Ms. Shirley Ann Jackson and Ms. Helen Hickson, Bartow; one goddaughter, Ms. Barbara S. Jackson, Wadley; one godson, Mr. Brian Strowbridge, Wadley; two sisters, Ms. Leona Jackson, Fort Lauderdale, and Ms. Sue Knight, St. Petersburg, Fla.; 22 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Tarvers Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

James Otis Lafavor
Dea. James Otis Lafavor of Wrens died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002.

Dea. Lafavor was a member of Woods Chapel Church of God in Christ, Matthews.

The funeral was Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. at Thompson Spring Hill AME Church, Matthews, with Elder Rufus Williams and Elder William Beasley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his sister, Jannie Prescott, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two granddaughters, Claretha (Willie) Curry, Sunrise, Fla., Joyce Ann (John) White, Rochester, NY; three great-grandchildren, Sandy Maria White, Giovannie Sherwood White and Miriam Bonita Curry, and four great great-grandchildren.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jessie Mack Jr.
Mr. Jessie Mack Jr. of Louisville died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002.

The funeral was Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. at Jones Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Dudley officiating.

Survivors include a companion, Dena Grant, Louisville; a daughter, Pamela Mack, Washington, DC; a son, Bruce Mack, Bishopville, SC; a brother, Johnny "James" Mack; and two sisters, Annie Laura Mack and Ruby Johnson, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Susie Milburn
Mrs. Susie Milburn, 72, of Thomson died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, in the Gibson Rest Home.

Mrs. Milburn, a native of Glascock County, had lived in Thomson for many years. She was a homemaker and had worked at the McDuffie County Hospital as a practical nurse. She was a member of the Washington Heights Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Horace Milburn.

The funeral was Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. in the Washington Heights Baptist Church with the Revs. J.W. "Bill" Seaman, Lester Clark, L.H. Fowler and Reginald Blakewood officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeanette Gunn, Dearing; a son, David Milburn, Thomson; a sister, Joanne Johnson, Mitchell; two brothers, John Lee Brassell, Augusta, and Lamar Brassell, Boneville; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Pallbearers were Willis Stanley, Stanley Eason, William Wilcher, Danny Wilkerson, Mike Neal and Johnny Brassell.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Frankie Andrews Wells
Mrs. Frankie Andrews Wells, 78, of Millen died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002.

Mrs. Wells, a native of Screven County, was a homemaker and a member of West Millen Baptist Church.

The funeral was Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. at the West Millen Baptist Church with the Revs. Perry Hearn and Butch Taylor officiating. Burial was in the Millen Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Henry H. Wells; two daughters, Wanda W. Clifton and Sharon W. Cason, Millen; three sons, Heyward Wells, Stapleton, Derrell Wells, Lexington, and Don Wells, Aiken; a sister, Virginia A. Duggar, Millen, and a brother, Thomas Andrews, Milner; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.

Memorials may be made to West Millen Baptist Church.
