Jawayne Keyshawn Vaughner
Graveside services for Jawayne Keyshawn Vaughner were held Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Willie L. Jones officiating.

Survivors include his parents Wayne and Tiwatta Vaughner; maternal grandmother, Shirley Simms; maternal great-grandparents, Warren G. and Mary Agnes Wells; and paternal grandparents, Clarence and Agnes Vaughner.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Tommie Habersham Jr.
Mr. Tommie Habersham Jr., 57, of Aiken died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Habersham, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of the St. Paul Baptist Church. He was a 1963 graduate of Jefferson County High School. He received a bachelor of science degree from A&T; and Americus Universities. Starting in Louisville, he was employed in Human Resources by Westinghouse Corp. since 1966, presently at SRS. He was a member of the Board of Directors of United Way and Big Brothers. He was a member of the Woodside Plantation.

The funeral was Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul Baptist Church in Louisville with the Rev. H. Bennings and King Mack officiating. Burial was in Chorus Society Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Habersham; his children, Tonja Williams and Tommie Habersham III of Aiken; his mother, Eva Lue Habersham, Louisville; four grandchildren, his mother-in-law, Inez Jordan, St. Petersburg, Fla.; four brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, one aunt and cousins.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lester Hobbs
Mr. Lester Hobbs, 79, of Stapleton died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, in the V.A. Medical Center.

Mr. Hobbs, a native of Glascock County, was a retired farmer and the retired owner of Hobbs Fish Market. He was a member of the Woodman of the World, the V.F.W. and a Methodist. He was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Lee Hobbs and Nora Story.

The funeral was Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. at Zoar United Methodist Church with the Revs. Joey Holloway and Lamar Rabun officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Hobbs; two daughters, Connie H. Richards and Beverly H. Milford, both of Thomson; a son, Clifton L. Hobbs, Gibson; two brothers, Davis Hobbs and Barton Hobbs, both of Stapleton; eight sisters, Bobbie Whitaker, Screven, Janette Perdue, Wrens, Doris Sleister, Stapleton, Iris King, Morrow, Ann Smith, Camak, Weslyn McGee, Covington, Marion June Widener, Thomson and Betty Jo Hobbs, Dearing; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild and two step-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Andy Russell, Wright Perdue, Mark Hobbs, Jody Hobbs, Jamie Smith, Joe Akins, Mickey Palmer and Stacey Greene.

Memorials may be made to the Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmy Landrum
Mr. Jimmy Landrum of Norwood died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Landrum, a native of Glascock County, had lived in Norwood most of his life. He worked at Chardan Ltd. and Thomson Company for over 20 years, Miss Jane's Restaurant and served on the Norwood City Council. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Louise Swint Landrum and his brother, Jarvis Landrum.

The funeral was Nov. 20 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Gary Hadden and Jerry Bradley officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Harper Landrum; three sons, James B. Landrum, Norwood, Timothy D. (Jeanne J.) Landrum and Robert Alan (Kelli Rachels) Landrum, all of Mitchell; two sisters, Ann Griswell and Janie Landrum of Gibson; and one grandson, William "Will" Robert Landrum.

Pallbearers were Denny Landrum, Wayne Landrum, John Davis, Bob Elmore, Phil Smith and Al Wheeler.

Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ethel Barfield Clark
Mrs. Ethel Barfield Clark, 74, of Louisville died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Clark was a native of Jefferson County and a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church, Barwick Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women Wardlow Group, Louisville Homemaker Club, Jefferson County Historical Society, Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma International Society and the Teachers Honorary Organization.

Graveside service were Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Louisville City Cemetery with the Rev. Danny Treadway officiating.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Agnes Clark, Louisville and Elizabeth Clark Moore, San Diego, Calif.; one grandchild, John Robert Clark Moore and two nephews Danny Barfield and David Barfield both of Columbus.

Pallbearers will be William Hall, John VanEpps, Pat Kelly, James Davis, Rocky Harris, Lance Poole, Mitchell McGraw and Sonny Bowles.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Barwick Sunday School Class.

Joseph T. "Terry" Sellers
Mr. Joseph T. "Terry" Sellers, 46, of Augusta died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at his residence.

Mr. Sellers, a native of Gilmer County, was raised in Wrens and had lived in Augusta for many years. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Georgia and South Carolina who had worked at various funeral homes in the CSRA for many years and for the past 18 years at Elliott Sons Funeral Homes of Augusta. He was a member of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers of Georgia and the Georgia and South Carolina Funeral Directors Association. He was a member of Curtis Baptist Church and a former longtime member of Fleming Baptist Church, both of Augusta. He is preceded in death by his father, Charlie Sellers.

The funeral was Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. at Curtis Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Harris officiating. Burial was in Westover Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Penny Welch Sellers, a son, Blake and a daughter, Leslie Kate, all of Augusta; his mother, Aline Sellers, Wrens; his in-laws, Harold and Madge Welch, Augusta; special friends, William Brooks, Cyndi McGahee, Johnny Rowland, and Steven and Kristy Brooks.

Pallbearers were Reuben Chance, Patricia Knight, Harold Sheppard, Kenneth Holley, Barry Cowart, Mark Rivers, Walker Lewis and Eston Cantrell.

Honorary pallbearers were former and current coworkers and any other Georgia and South Carolina Funeral professionals.

Mary Bessie Kitchens Reese
Mrs. Mary Bessie Kitchens Reese, 76, of Mitchell died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at MCG Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Reese, a native of Glascock County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Griffin Chapel Baptist Church.

The funeral was Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. at Griffin Chapel Baptist Church in Mitchell with the Revs. Jamie Hawkins and Wayne Page officiating. Burial was in the Mitchell City Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Mr. Lynn Brady Reese, Bastonville; one daughter, Lathy Gwenn Reese, Augusta; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Earl Hilson, Mike Lyons, Clay Holbrook, Ray Myers, James Hawkins and James Griswell.

Memorials may be made to Glascock County Cancer Society in care of Mrs. Corene Chalker, 3037 Bastonville Road, Gibson, GA 30810.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clinton A. Freeman
Mr. Clinton A. Freeman of Wadley died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at his residence.

The funeral was Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. at Blounts Chapel AME Church in Bartow.

Survivors include four daughters, Lavon Freeman Ricks, Augusta, Mary Ann Freeman, Wadley, Jacqueline Freeman, Brooklyn, NY, and Toni Davis, Washington; three sons, Dwight Robertson, Philadelphia, Pa., Curtis Danford, Wadley, and Charles Freeman, Wrens; one sister, Magdalene Hicks, Jacksonville, Fla.; his mother, Ms. Annie L. Mincey Freeman, Wadley; and 16 grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Columbus Freeman
Mr. Thomas Columbus Freeman of Wrens died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville.
Mr. Freeman, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Robert and Estella Freeman. He was owner and director of Freeman Funeral Home since 1937. He was a member of the Sixth District of the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners and the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association. He was named Mortician of the Year for the Sixth District in 1976. He worked with the Jefferson County O.E.O. Program, Twin Lakes Park, School Transition Program, Wrens Zoning Commission and was a member of the Jefferson County Department of Family and Children Services Board of Directors. He was the first Black to serve on the Grand Jury of Jefferson County, the first Black to serve on the Jefferson County Hospital Board and the first Black Co-Chairman of the Food Commodity Program. He was a former member of the Wrens Chapel AME Church and later joined the Lofton AME Church of Wrens.

The funeral was Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Wrens Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Leroy Britt Sr. officiating. Burial was in Sugar Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Walton Brown Freeman; a brother, Linton (Ruth) Freeman, Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Wynona Jones, Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Francina Duggan, Chicago, Ill. and Mary Freeman, St. Albans, NY; a brother-in-law, Edward Brown, Wilmington, Del.; a son, Shawn Stapleton, Thomson; a very devoted cousin, Rev. Betty J. Stephens, Wrens; other cousins, nieces, nephews, devoted caretakers and staff members of the Freeman Funeral Home.

Carrie Malinda Adkinson
Miss Carrie Malinda Adkinson of Bartow died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in Sandersville.

The funeral was Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at Tarvers Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. K.E. Phillips officiating.

Survivors include her mother, Willie Clyde Adkinson, Bartow; two sisters, Tammie Adkinson and Zannia Adkinson, Bartow; three brothers, Willie Chico Adkinson, Augusta, Willie Lamont Jones, SC, and Gregory Smith, Brooklyn, NY.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Bennie Atkins
Mr. Bennie Atkins of Louisville died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Medical College of Georgia.

The funeral was Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at Salters Grove Baptist Church, Bartow.

Survivors include five brothers, eight sisters and several other relatives.

Carter's Mortuary, Waynesboro, was in charge of the arrangements.

Amelia Gibbons Brown
Mrs. Amelia Gibbons Brown of Wadley died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Augusta.

The funeral was Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Wadley Church of God in Christ with the Rev. William Renfroe Jr. officiating.

Survivors include two daughters, Annie D. Brown and Elizabeth Brown, Wadley; two sons, James Brown and Ivory Lee Brown, Wadley; one sister, Annie Mae Gibbons Price, Wadley; six brothers, Dave Gibbons and Ray Gibbons, Wadley, Ben Gibbons, Swainsboro, Henry Gibbons, NJ, and John Gibbons and Willie J. Gibbons, Milwaukee, Wis.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

James Willie "Buddy" Carr Sr.
Mr. James Willie "Buddy" Carr Sr., 60, of Louisville died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002.

The funeral was Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and Cemetery with the Rev. Abraham Gibbons officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Betty G. Carr; his children, Janice Reaves, Louisville, James W. Carr Jr., Atlanta, James J. Carr and Christopher Carr, both of Augusta, Winfred Seafus and Fredrick James, both of Louisville; his stepchildren, Chandra Heggs and KaChandra Heggs, both of Louisville; siblings, Comer Carr Jr., July "J.C." Carr Sr., Ann Law, Frances Thompson and Joyce Adams; mother-in-law, Celia Gibbons; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clinton "Clint" N. Hadden
Mr. Clinton "Clint" N. Hadden, 90, of Louisville died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Gibson Nursing Home.

Mr. Hadden was a member of the Waldens United Methodist Church for 77 years, a retired farmer, a retired Jefferson County Bus Driver, and an avid hunter/fisherman and bird dog trainer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Sheppard Hadden.

The funeral was Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Waldens United Methodist Church with the Revs. Charles Smith and Marvin Goodman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include four sons, Wallace Hadden, Avera, Fay Hadden and Murray Hadden, Louisville, and Dean Hadden, Wrens; one daughter, Gloria A. Smith, Martinez; two sisters, Nellie Hadden and Jewel Jennings, Gibson Nursing Home, Gibson; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Terry Hadden, Randy Hadden, Jeff Hadden, Darryl Symonds, Stanley Turner, Shannon Hudson, Thomas Proctor and Tommy Matheny.
