Shirley McGruder Pierce
Mrs. Shirley McGruder Pierce of Louisville died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002.

Mrs. Pierce, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of the Jones Grove Baptist church where she served as President of choir, Church Clerk member Youth Dept. Advisor, Missionary Board, Pastor's Aid and Kitchen Committee Chairperson of Watch Night and worked with the Minister's Deacon and Church Union. She was also a member of the Louisville Chapter 101 Order of Eastern Star, NAACP where she worked on the special program committee. She was a member of the Jefferson County Democratic Committee. She was employed by Ingersoll-Rand at Thermo King Corporation since 1973 and was attending Sandersville Technical School where she was studying accounting.

The funeral was Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Jones Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Dudley, Fredrick Ricks, Perry Daniels and Thomas Walker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Aaron Pierce; one daughter, Wanda T. Bostic, Louisville; two sons, Earnest Thompson Jr. and Derrick Thompson, Louisville; one brother, Lindsey McGruder Jr., Hephzibah; Annie D. McGruder, Elouise Smith, Louisville, Ann Dixon, Atlanta; her grandchildren; her special aunts and uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lizzie Mae Freeman Jackson
Mrs. Lizzie Mae Freeman Jackson of Jamacia, NY, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Wrens. She was the daughter of Mal and Pennie Freeman. Mrs. Jackson was educated in the public schools of Wrens. She moved to New York as a young adult. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and served with the Missionary Society, Senior Choir and Pastor's Aide Ministries. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jackson Sr.

The funeral was Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Scott Brown Sr. officiating. Burial was in Plainlawn Cemetery in Hicksville, NY.

Survivors include her son, James (Ann) Benefield, Atlanta; a cherished nephew, Eddie Freeman; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

Crowe's Funerals Homes, Inc., Jamaica, NY, was in charge of the arrangements.

Jennie Brewer
Mrs. Jennie Brewer of Gibson died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at the Gibson Nursing Home.

Mrs. Brewer, a native of Svea, Fla., was a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Eunice Jernigan, Grovetown; one son, Samuel Brewer, Brooksville, Fla.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Starling Funeral Home, Harlem, was in charge of the arrangements.

Max Eugster
Mr. Max Eugster of Louisville died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002.

Mr. Eugster, a native of Appenzell, Switzerland, had lived in Jefferson County since 1961. He was an engineer with Fulghum Industries and Thermo King and owner of LT&E;, Inc. since 1971. He was a graduate of Das Abend-Technikum, Zurich, Switzerland. He was a member of the Augusta and Jefferson County Chambers of Commerce. He was a member of Louisville United Methodist Church, Woodlawn Hunting Club and SCCA. An avid outdoorsman, hunter and race car driver at area race tracks in Dublin, Swainsboro and Augusta. He was a former trustee and member of Augusta Dance Studio where he was a competitive ballroom dancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilhelm and Ruth Lutz Eugster of Herisau, Appenzell, Swtzerland, his first wife, Hedwig Eugster of Louisville and his stepson, Mitchell Clayton Scott of Louisville.

The memorial service was Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Danny Treadway officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Coleman Eugster; his son, Robert "Maxli" Eugster, Powder Springs; his stepson, Winfield Baldwin Scott, Louisville; his mother-in-law, Jean B. Coleman, Ocala, Fla.; his twin sister, Ruth Blaser, Berne, Switzerland; five brothers, Walter Eugster, Littau, Switzerland, Reudi Eugster, Dissenhoffer, Switzerland, Paul Eugster, Liverpool, England, Hans Eugster, Herisau, Switzerland, and Ernest Eugster, Evergreen, Colo.

Honorary pallbearers were the Woodlawn Hunting Club.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lettie Stokes Trimble
Mrs. Lettie Stokes Trimble, 83, of Wrens died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at an Augusta hospital.
Mrs. Trimble, a native of Jefferson County, was a homemaker and a member of the Canaan Galilee Baptist Church and the Lone Star Society.

The funeral was Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Canaan Galilee Baptist Church and the Lone Star Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Stokes officiating.

Survivors include her children, Mary Walker and Leotis Fleming, Brooklyn, NY, Eddie Fleming, Pompano Beach, Fla., Lessie Boyd and Eva Murray, Martinez, Dorothy Walden, Louisville, Patricia Trimble and James Trimble, Augusta, and Shirley Trimble, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; reared as her siblings, Narcissus McBride, Fannie Bell Houston and Ben Huntley Sr.; one son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Christopher John Wayman
Mr. Christopher John Wayman, 20, of Newington died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003.

Mr. Wayman, a native of New York, moved to Georgia in 1996. He was a graduate of St. Paul Academy for Boys in Savannah. He was a student at Miles College, Birmingham, Ala., majoring in music. He was a member of the Calvary Gospel and Deliverance Church.

The funeral was Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Calvary Gospel and Deliverance Church in Wrens. Burial was in the Solomon Temple Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Sanbreal Emery Wayman and Helen Elizabeth Wayman of Newington; his siblings, Elizabeth Wayman, Newington, Tiffany Wayman and Patrick Wayman, New York; his maternal grandmother, Mary Floyd, Wadley; his godmother, six aunts and uncles, two nephews, a host of great aunts and uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Harold Edward Davidson
Rev. Harold Edward Davidson, 83, of Louisville died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, in Jefferson Hospital.

Rev. Davidson, a native of Wilcox County, was the son of the late Edward and Odell Hodges Davidson. He was an active minister at Wrens Church of the Nazarene and was also serving as Chaplain for the Jefferson County State Prison. He had served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

The funeral was Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. at Wrens Church of the Nazarene. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery with the Revs. James Frost and Roy Rogers officiating.

Survivors include three daughters, Sara Pittman, Avera, Dean Bucher, Haddock, and Nita Wallace, Orlando, Fla.; three brothers, Johnny Hodges, Albany, Donald Hodges, Live Oak, Fla., and B.F. Hodges, Albany; four sisters, Elizabeth Foxworth and Effie Foxworth, Albany, and Evelyn Johnson and Jean Fernandez, Sylvester; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Michael Bucher, Kerry Bucher, Anthony Bucher, Carl Wallace, Michael Pittman and Stephen Pittman.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Beatrice Fann Jordan
Mrs. Beatrice Fann Jordan of Wadley died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 in Louisville.

The funeral was Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. at Brinson Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. David Kemp officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Asie Jordan, Wadley; three brothers, Ray Fann, Wadley, Willie Que Brown, New York City and Johnny Blair, Waycross; two sisters, Evelyn Brown, Corona, NY and Betty Lumsford, Holliswood, NY.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Charlie McCoy
Mr. Charlie McCoy, 61, of Wrens died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003.

The funeral was Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at Thankful Baptist Church, Jewell, with the Rev. E.C. Climes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mamie Gibson McCoy, Warrenton; a son, Steven McCoy, Warrenton; daughter, Belinda Lindsey, Warrenton; seven grandchildren; 12 sisters, five brothers; 10 step-children; and a host of other relatives.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ralph Milburn
Mr. Ralph Milburn, 73, of Mitchell died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Milburn was a native of Glascock County. He was an army veteran of WWII and a carpenter.

The funeral was Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Seaman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his sons, Danny (Debbie) Milburn, Mitchell, and Ethridge Williams, Gibson; three sisters, Celia Parrish, Gibson, Lillian Smisson, Ft. Valley and Sara O'Neal, Augusta; two sisters-in-law, Edna Milburn and Elsie Milburn, both of Gibson, and one brother-in-law, Pete O'Neal, Augusta; four grandchildren; nine nieces and seven nephews.

Pallbearers were David Milburn, Keith Milburn, Dwain Milburn, Robert O'Neal, David Woods and Bonnie Jean Parrish.

Amy Teagle Varnell
Mrs. Amy Teagle Varnell of Louisville died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Mrs. Varnell, a native of Dallas, Texas, lived most of her life in Augusta. She was a graduate of Westside High School and Augusta State University. She was a homemaker the last years of her life but had formerly been employed by Augusta State University in the Education Department. She was a member of Louisville United Methodist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church in Augusta.

The funeral was Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Augusta with the Revs. Benji Varnell and Ricky Varnell and Dr. Timothy Owings officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Brooks A. Varnell; a daughter, Malorie B. Varnell; parents, the late Robert C. Teagle and Mrs. Nancy Youngblood Teagle, Louisville; a sister, Cathy (Jerry) Teagle Newman, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a brother, Robert Scott Teagle, Atlanta; grandfather, Q.A. Youngblood; grandmother, Eloise Youngblood; nieces, Cayla Glee Newman and Emily Grace Newman; brother-in-law, Steve Varnell, Powder Springs; parents-in-law, James and Peggy Varnell, Springfield; and god-parents, Jake and Delores Malone, Augusta.

Pallbearers were Alan Wasden, Louis Blanchard, Hank Davis, Jud Davis, Max Boswell, Michael Crawley, Brian Carter and Doyte Chaffin.

Honorary pallbearers were the Medical Staff at MCG, the Lions Club of Louisville and the Department of Natural Resources.

John Curtis Brett
Mr. John Curtis Brett, 23, of Woodbine died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003.

Mr. Brett, a native of Tattnall County, was a 1998 graduate of Camden County High School and attended the Heart of Georgia Technical School in Dublin. He had resided in Camden County for the past 17 years and was a Baptist. He was employed with Thomas Collision Center in Folkston.

The funeral was Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church, Wadley, with the Rev. Audley Roberts officiating. Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Curt and Sandy Brett, Kingsland; grandparents, Virgil and Julia Brett, Wadley and Oscar and Helen Brazell, Kingsland.

Pallbearers were Dan Brett, Ty Brett, Walker Brazell, Terrell Brazell, Kevin Brazell, Jeffrey Brazell and Christopher Brazell.

Honorary pallbearers were Joss Josselyn, Jamie Marr, Burt Lewis, Billy Bumgarner, Stephen Wynn, Donnie Sylvester, Kevin Dalton, Rusty Thompson and Paul Spivey.

Allison Memorial Chapel, St. Marys, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ellis Edward Bell
Mr. Ellis Edward Bell of Wadley died on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, in Louisville.

The funeral was Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. at Redeemed Church of Jesus Christ in Wadley with the Rev. Clifford Duckworth officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Strowbridge Bell; two daughters, Anteria Bell, Lakeland, Fla. and Zanquisha Battle, Wadley; five sons, Johnvonte Bell and Ellis Bell Jr., Lakeland, Fla., Darius Jamal Bell, Kenneth Jordan Jr. and Norman Battle Jr., Wadley; his parents, Ethel Bell Hodges, Bartow, Moses Bell, Daytona Beach, Fla. and Warren Hodges Jr.; three sisters, Jacqueline Hodges, Warner Robbins, Lynn Mincey, Lando, Md., and Krystal Hodges, Statesboro; three brothers, Jason Bell and Anthony Bell, Daytona Beach, Fla. and Joseph Hodges, Augusta; paternal grandmother, Lillian Passmore, Sandersville, and maternal grandparents, Warren Hodges Sr. and Jessie B. Hodges, Midville.
