Lynda Rachelle Hadden
Miss Lynda Rachelle Hadden, 30, of Gibson died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003.

The funeral was Feb. 2 at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Steve Lamb and Joey Holloway officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her parents, Charles A. Hadden and Elizabeth U. Hadden, Gibson; a sister Renae Kelley, and brother-in-law, Gregg Kelley, Gibson; her grandmother, Louise Hadden, Gibson; and a nephew, Bayne Kelley, Gibson.

Pallbearers were Lester Hadden, Jerry Hadden, David Usry, Ronnie Pittman, Richard Dunevent and Hoyt Cole.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Catina L. Benefield-Jackson
Ms. Catina L. Benefield-Jackson, 29, of Wrens died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at the Medical College of Georgia.

The funeral was Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at Redeemed Church of Our Lord of Jesus Christ, Wadley, with Bishop Clifford Duckworth officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Maurice Jackson; a daughter, Ashley Charelle Jackson; mother, Wynona Jackson, Wrens; father, Arthur Lee Brown, Augusta; three sisters, Felisha Boatwright, Marria Benefield and Maranda Benefield, all of Wrens; three brothers, Antonio Clark, Warrenton, Rodriquez Clark and Xavier Brown, both of Louisville; and a number of other relatives.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James Thomas Purvis Sr.
Mr. James Thomas Purvis Sr., 63, of Louisville died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at his residence.

Mr. Purvis was retired from Thermo King.

The funeral was Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Shelton officiating. Burial was in the Reedy Creek Church Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Jeffery "Marty" Purvis, Timothy "Dale" Purvis, Louisville, and James T. Purvis Jr., Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers, Marvin Purvis, Randy Purvis, Wrens, and Wallace Purvis, Thomson; three sisters, Polly A. Kent and Dianne Reese, both of Thomson, and Irene Emmett, Fort Myers, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers were David Barrow, Ricky Rios, Mel Jobes, Jimmy Black, Bobby Randolph and Buddy Randolph.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangement.

Harvey Young Williams Jr.
Mr. Harvey Young Williams Jr., 65, of Dearing died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at his residence.

Mr. Williams was a native of Jefferson County but had lived in Dearing for several years. He was a retired carpenter. He was an Army veteran.

A memorial service was held Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Williams; three daughters, Paula McCoy and Tricia Duvall, both of Monroe, Mich., and Marie Williams, Silver Springs, Md.; a son, Mark Williams, Gibson; three sisters, Derryl Cochran, Avera, Juanita Watkins, Wrens, and Susan Gibson, Aiken; a brother, Bert Williams, Wrens, and a step-son, Jimmy Laird, Dearing; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

James Nealey
Mr. James Nealey, 84, of Louisville died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at his residence.

Mr. Nealey was a native of Burke County and had lived in Florida most of his life. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army after serving in World War II. He moved to Jefferson County in 1996. Mr. Nealey was a member of the Eden Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board.

The funeral was Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. at Eden Baptist Church and Cemetery with the Rev. James Nelson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel McCloud Nealey; daughters, Nanette Faye Nealey, Miami, Louise McCloud, Louisville and Beulah Hilton, Augusta; his niece, Denise Trimble, Louisville; grandchildren, one son-in-law, one sister-in-law, a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Willie H. "Tippy" Hannah
Mr. Willie H. "Tippy" Hannah of Keysville died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003.

Mr. Hannah, a native of Jefferson County, had attended Wrens High School and was a member of the Lofton A.M.E. Church.

The funeral was Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. at Lofton A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Leroy Britt Sr. officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Hannah; his children, Lataisha Hannah and Lagarian Hannah of Stapleton, April Hannah and Darron Hannah of Wrens; his siblings, Rose Jordan, Annie Lee Hannah, Wrens, Manie Robinson, Brenda Hill, Louisville, Mary Alice Hannah, Phinizy Hannah Jr. and Arthur Lee Hannah of Stapleton, Rowena Tucker, Mitchell; a devoted friend, Diane Roberson, Keysville; one grandchild, mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Elinor Louise Veatch
Mrs. Elinor Louise Veatch, 80, of Louisville died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at the Southwest Christian Hospice in Atlanta.
Mrs. Veatch was born on April 10, 1922, the daughter of the late Rev. Albert William and Augusta Lee Rees. She attended the Weselyan College in Macon and later resided in Louisville where she taught swimming for over 40 years. She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women's Club, the Joe Gay Sunday School Class, the Methodist Youth Fellowship and the Church Choir. She was also active in the Lady Lions Auxiliary Group.

The funeral was Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Louisville United Methodist Church with the Revs. Danny Treadway and Emory Gilbert officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Julian L. Veatch; two sons, Julian Lamar (Carol) Veatch Jr., Atlanta, and Larry William (Patricia) Veatch, Newberry, Fla.; and four grandchildren, David Lee Veatch, Melanie Ann Veatch, Ryan Alexander Veatch and Andrew William Veatch.

Pallbearers were David Lee Veatch, Bryan Burt, Donnie Rhodes, Wendell Franks, Howard Johnson and Bill Veatch.

Memorials may be made to the Southwest Christian Hospice, 7225 Lester Rd., Union City, GA 30291.

Thelma Elizabeth McDaniel
Mrs. Thelma Elizabeth McDaniel, 85, of Louisville died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003.

Mrs. McDaniel, a native of South Carolina, was retired from the Jefferson County Health Department and The Shirt Factory. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville. She was the daughter of the late James and Sinia Benton.

The funeral was Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Louisville with the Rev. Larry Montgomery and Dewey Henderson officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Joseph Edward McDaniel, Uvalda; three daughters, Florence Johnson, Davisboro, Flora Parker, Niceville, Fla., and Dorothy Bryant, Aiken, SC; one brother, J.D. Benton, SC; and two sisters, Betty Jean Hiers and Rhumelle Crider, both of SC; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Butch Parker, George Parker, Glenn Johnson, Bob Holland, Chris Veal and Andy Carter.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Terwick Tucker
Mrs. Mary Terwick Tucker of Augusta died Monday, Feb. 2, 2003.

Mrs. Tucker, a native of Louisville, had lived most of her life in Augusta. She was a weaver at King Mill for 17 years and managed Kim's Soap and Suds Cleaners for over 25 years. She was the wife of the late Leon Tucker and the daughter of the late James and Nellie Terwick.

The funeral was Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with the Revs. Debra Benehaley and William Mathis officiating. Burial was in the Langley Cemetery, Langley.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Brockington, Beech Island; three sons, Willie C. Smith, Chickaway, Ala., Thomas Smith, Aiken, and Dennis J. Smith, Augusta; a sister, Nellie Mae Gibson, Louisville; two brothers, Jessie Terwick and Nick Terwick, both of Florida; two step-sons, William C. Ducker, Martinez, and Danny Tucker, NC; nine grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Denny Mullins, Wayne Rutland, Dennis Smith, Brad Barbee, Jay Bird, Angel DeJesus, Danny Tucker Jr. and Joe Pardue.

Napier Funeral Home, Graniteville, SC, was in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Eugene "Gene" McBride Sr.
Mr. Thomas Eugene "Gene" McBride Sr., 86, of Louisville died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. McBride, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in Louisville all of his life. He was the only child of Herbert E. and Ruby Davis McBride. He was a member of the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he had served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday School Superintendent and other offices in the church. He was currently serving as an Elder and a member of the Session.

Mr. McBride retired from the United States Postal Service where he had worked for 40 years. During World War II he worked at Fort Gordon. He was involved with many youth programs in his community and also loved woodworking.

Graveside services were held Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. at the Louisville City Cemetery with the Revs. Mike Hendrix and Larry Montgomery officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Marie McBride; a son, Thomas Eugene "Gene" (Mary Jo) McBride Jr., Winston-Salem, NC; a daughter, Nell (Allen) Morris, Augusta; two stepdaughters, Jan Jones McElreath, Augusta, and Marie Jones Handberry, Louisville; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mark McBride, Benjamin McElreath Jr., Samuel McElreath, Don Handberry Jr., Tony Stavely, Joe Culvern, Joe Cox and Edward Salter.

Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Elders and Deacons of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Thomas Armistead and John J. Jones Jr.

Memorials may be made to the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Youth Fund, 824 Walnut St., Louisville, GA 30434

Sarah Perez
Mrs. Sarah Perez, 93, of Wadley died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at Glendale Nursing Home.

Mrs. Perez was born in Galion, Ohio, and had lived in Campo, Calif. before moving to Wadley. She was retired from nursing and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Robert Perez of Wadley.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Glindle "Poon" L. Murray Williams
Mrs. Glindle "Poon" L. Murray Williams of Warrenton died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003.

Mrs. Williams, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of the Stone Springfield AME Church. She was employed with Howard Sheppard Trucking Co.

The funeral was Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. at the Stone Springfield AME Church with the Rev. Leroy Britt Sr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Freddie Williams, Louisville; two children, Ashley Williams and Lagary Murray, Stapleton; two stepchildren, Neoski Williams and Topeka Heggs, Louisville; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Murray, Stapleton; one sister, Alicia D. Murray, Stapleton; seven brothers, George Murray, Irakimbo Murray, Larry Murray Jr., Freddie Murray and Robert L. Murray, all of Wrens, Larry Murray Sr., Stapleton, and Edward Murray, Louisville.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Herschel Edmon Poole
Mr. Herschel Edmon Poole, 58, of Panama City, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003.

Mr. Poole served his country in the U.S. Air Force and worked in construction.

Interment will be in Matthews at a date to be announced later.

Survivors include his son, Greg Poole, Fla.; his sister, Bertha Poole Franks, Matthews; aunts, Bessie McKenry, Eastover, SC, and Madge McLendon, Clearwater, SC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charlie Evans
Mr. Charlie Evans, 88, of Wadley died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at Glendale Nursing Home.

The funeral was Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Jogresan Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Matthew Wilson officiating. Burial was in Blounts Chapel Church Cemetery in Bartow.
