Lucille Williford
Mrs. Lucille Williford, 84, of Bartow died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Williford, a native of Washington County, had lived in Jefferson County for 47 years. She was a homemaker and had retired from the Wadley Shirt Factory. She was a member of Bartow Baptist Church.

The funeral was Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at Bartow Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Eiland officiating. Burial was in the Wadley City Cemetery.

Survivors include five daughters, Jewel Chandler, Girard, Mable McMillan, Tifton, Annie Ruth Stevens, Gail Dudley and Brenda Hall, all of Wadley; two brothers, Andrew Ezelle and Russell Ezelle; five sisters, Minia B. Moore, Patsy Smith, Mavis James, Nelle Ayers and Mary Sue Foster; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Donnie Williford, Edward Williford, Tommy Williford, Robert Williford, Scott Williford and Glenn Flanders.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Myesha Nykala Hadden
Little Miss Myesha Nykala Hadden, 2, of Louisville died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Medical College of Georgia.
The funeral was Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. at Spring Bethel AME Church. Burial was in Noah's Ark Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas O. Lampkin officiating.

Survivors include her parents, Connery Hadden, Louisville, and Shawn Jones, Waynesboro; one sister, Olandesha Clark, Waynesboro; paternal grandparents, Glorestine Cunningham, Louisville, and Eugene and Charlet Hadden, Wadley; maternal grandparents, Juanita Boyd and Eddie Boyd, Waynesboro; paternal great-grandmothers, Bernice Kilpatrick, Louisville and Reatha Usry, Wrens; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Davis Funeral was in charge of the arrangements.

Arthur Johnson
Mr. Arthur Johnson, 66, of Wrens died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003.

Mr. Johnson, a native of Texas, served in the Army for over 20 years and retired as Master Sergeant.

The funeral was Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with full military honors. The Rev. Paul Moore officiated. Burial was in Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his sons, Phillip D. (Julie) Johnson, Stapleton, and Steven T. Johnson, Killeen, Texas; his mother, Christine Moore, Desoto, Texas; a brother, Gordon Johnson, Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Idaneice Adams, Dallas, and Jolette McHargues, Ovilla, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were military.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth H. Kirkland
Mr. Kenneth H. Kirkland, 52, of Stapleton died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003.

Mr. Kirkland, a native of Germany, had lived in Stapleton for many years. He was a carpenter and a member of Mount Beulah Baptist Church.

The funeral was Nov. 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Davis officiating. Burial was at 4 p.m. in the Paines Chapel Church Cemetery in Millen.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Clements McGahee Kirkland; two daughters, Tricia Hughes, Hinesville, and Beth (Joe) Williams, Statesboro; two step-children, Michael McGahee and Kevin McGahee, both of Stapleton; a sister, Sally Kirkland, Millen; two brothers, F.A. (Kirk) Kirkland Jr., Millen, and Seabie Kirkland, Hephzibah; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Michael Lindsey, Barry Williams, Eddie Williams, Lee Roy Usry, Junior Rabun and Max Dixon.

Curtis Funeral Home, Thomson, was in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin J. Williams
Mr. Melvin J. Williams, 67, of Augusta died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003.

Mr. Williams, a native of Gibson, was a graduate of Gibson High School. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Williams. He served in the National Guard Reserve call up during the Berlin Crisis. He was the owner and operator of Melvin Williams Manufactured Homes 1, 2 and 3. He served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Manufactured Housing Association and was a member of the Augusta Better Business Bureau, Chamber of Commerce and was a former member of the South Augusta Exchange Club and had worked with the Red Carpet Tour of Augusta. He was a longtime supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the American Legion Post 205, VFW Post 649 and Voiture Locale 719. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in North Augusta.

The funeral was Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Martinez, with the Revs. Chris Brown and Steve Lamb officiating. Burial was in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Chance Williams; three daughters, Elaine (Larry) Wilson, Aiken, Melissa Williams, Evans, and Renee (Scott) Fox, Augusta; three sisters, Wanda (Gerald) Davis, Joyce (B.C.) Smith, Gibson, and Betty Bell, Blythe; one brother, Bobby (Teresa) Williams, Gibson; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Tommy Cox, Gary Dillenbeck, Gary Herrington, Lynn Turlington, Dillon Flanagon, Floyd Morris, Johnny Mack and Bert Cheshire.

Honorary pallbearers were employees and their spouses of Melvin Williams Manufactured Homes Inc. (1, 2 and 3) and former employees of Melvin Williams Manufactured Homes of Savannah.

Cyrus Hannah Sr.
Mr. Cyrus Hannah Sr., 83, of Louisville died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003.
The funeral was Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. at Sand Valley AME Church with the Rev. Leroy Britt officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Hannah; six children, Cyrus Hannah Jr., Warren, SC, Louise Hannah, Virginia Evans, Carolyn Hannah, Charles Hannah and Doris Hannah Hobson, all of Boston, Mass.; two sisters, Inell Barnes, Augusta, and Mary Lizzie Brown, Louisville; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Y.H. Holme
Mr. Y.H. Holmes, 83, of Louisville died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Old Capitol Nursing Home, Louisville.

Mr. Holmes, a native of Toombs County, was a retired dealer for the Handi House Company in Louisville. He was a WWII Navy veteran. He had lived in Louisville for the past 36 years moving from Swainsboro. He was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church where he was a deacon and had taught Sunday school for many years. He was a member of the Louisville Kiwanis Club.

The funeral was Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. in the Southern Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at 2 p.m. in Dublin Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Holmes; his son, Y. Lynn (Elizabeth) Holmes, Carrolton; a daughter, Susan (Steve) Dehnen, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; his sister, Betty Ridgon, Vidalia; three granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ott Stephens, Don Williams, Kester Williford, Joel Lamb, Jimmy Stinson and Delston Branch.

Deacons of First Baptist Church were honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Louisville First Baptist Church or to the Jefferson County Hospital Pink Ladies department.

Quinton Ellis Salter
Mr. Quinton Ellis Salter of Wadley died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Salter was born in Tattnal County but had lived in Wadley all his life. He was a member of Coleman Chapel United Methodist Church. He was retired and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

The funeral was Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. at Coleman Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Lumpkin and Sheriff Gary Hutchins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Amy Salter; a daughter, Julie (Richard) Hutchinson, Louisville; a son, Shane (Anita) Jones, Honolulu, Hi.; two sisters, Avery Salter, Waynesboro, and Revis Salter; a sister, Clara Nell Cannady, Wadley; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert E. (Bob) Wade
Rev. Robert E. (Bob) Wade of Thomson died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003.

Rev. Wade, a graduate of Auburn University and Southern University, lived in Thomson for the past 15 years where he served as Director of Missions for the Hephzibah and Kilpatrick Baptist Associations for nine years. After retiring as Director of Missions, he served as pastor of Raysville Baptist Church for five and a half years.

He was honored by Raysville Church in June, 2002, for 50 years of continuous service as a Minister of the Gospel. For a period of three years, he taught courses for Samford University Extensions Division in Birmingham, Ala. He has held many offices in the State and Associations where he has pastored. He was presently a member of the Executive Committee and a member of the Committee on Committees for the for the Georgia Baptist Convention. He had traveled to Africa, Panama, the Republic of Georgia and London on Mission Teams plus leading mission teams in several states in the USA.

The funeral was Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Churchf with Dr. James C. Elder officiating. Burial was in the Westview Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Trotter; three sons, Steve (Debra) Wade, Warner Robins, John (Dianne) Wade, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mike (Stephanie) Wade, Lafayette; one brother, Larkin Wade, Auburn, Ala.; two sisters, Jane Lewis, Tallahassee, Fla., and Nell Marshall, Midwest City, Okla.; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John Robert Wade, Craig Wade, Joshua Wade, Edward Benson, Jack Mercer and William Helmly.

Honorary pallbearers were the Ministers of the Hephzibah and Kilpatrick Baptist Associations.

Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, was in charge of the arrangements.

Juddie Prickett
Mr. Juddie Prickett, 77, of Matthews died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Medical College of Georgia.

The funeral was Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Joe Walden and Paul Moore officiating. Burial was at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Liza Mae; two daughters, Helen Gay, Matthews, and Mary (Larry) Burke, Wrens; one son, Rufus (Barbara) Prickett, Matthews; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Raymond Prickett, Allen Prickett, Donnie Prickett, Kevin Owens, Ronnie Prickett and Poochie Wells.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1725, Augusta, GA 30903-1725.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Young Pate
Mrs. Dorothy Young Pate, 84, of Lawrence, Kan., died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003.

Mrs. Pate, formerly of Augusta, was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. She was the daughter of the late John A. and Martha Louise (McGahee) Young of Wrens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert E. Pate Sr.

Graveside services were held Nov. 26 at Westover Cemetery in Augusta.

Survivors include two sons, R.E. Pate and Hugh Pate, both of Lawrence, Kan.; one daughter, Bernice Pate, Leavenworth, Kan.; a sister Bernice (Robert) Van Arsdale, Wrens; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Douglas County, c/o Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, Kan. 66044.

Rebekah (Becky) Kirby Avery
Rebekah (Becky) Kirby Avery of Stapleton entered into rest Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003.

She was a native of Los Angeles, Calif., but had lived in Stapleton for many years. She was an employee of The News and Farmer/The Jefferson Reporter, The Augusta Chronicle and Rhodes Murphy. She was a Baptist.

The funeral was Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Ford officiating.

Survivors include one daughter, Deidra G. Massengill, Augusta; one son, Bryan James Avery, Stapleton; her mother, Lara Joann Kirby Verbeck, Calif.; two brothers, Patrick Kirby and David Kirby, both of Calif.; one sister, Gayle Hanko, Pa.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Thelma R. Edwards
Mrs. Thelma R. Edwards, 68, of Augusta, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Mrs. Edwards, a native of Glascock County, was a member of Washington Height Baptist Church.

The funeral was Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tony Pagliarullo officiating. Burial was at Walden UMC Cemetery.

Survivors include four daughters, Nancy (Larry) Bonner, Marcha (Jackie) Arrington, Rebe (Robert) Busbee, and Jan (Jim) Burg; five brothers, Ray Reese, Milton Reese, Jim Reese, C.S. Reese and Robert Reese; one sister, Ann Allen; six grandchildren, Don Hendrix, Christopher Arrington, Joseph Busbee, Amanda Busbee, Tony Pagliarullo and Jamie Burg.

Pallbearers were Felton Beasley, Cleon Beasley, Milton Reese, C.S. Reese and Gilbert Sheppard.

Honorary pallbearers were Don Hendrix, Christopher Arrington and Joseph Busbee.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
