Mary Estelle Logue Pittman
Mrs. Mary Estelle Logue Pittman, 57, of Gibson died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Medical Center of Central Georgia, Macon.

Mrs. Pittman, a native of Glascock County, was a retired school bus driver. She also worked at the Gibson Post Office serving as the Post Master Relief for 16 years. She was a member of Gibson First Baptist Church.

The funeral was Oct. 28 at 1:30 p.m. at Gibson First Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Seaman and Mike Cook officiating. Burial was in the Gibson City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Warren Pittman; two daughters, Wanda Pittman and Shelli Akers, both of Gibson; one sister, Joann Powell, Grovetown; and three grandchildren, Kristin Akers, Cole Casper and Destiny Kitchens.

Pallbearers were James Brantley, Verlon Downs, Steve Davis, Wayne Williford, Brinson Logue, Charles Logue and Ralph Hadden.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Betty H. Simons
Mrs. Betty H. Simons, 72, of Warrenton died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004.

Mrs. Simons, a native of Columbia County, had lived most of her live in McDuffie and Warren County. She was a retired insurance agent and a member of Mesena United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by a son, Leonard Simons.

The funeral was Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Sue Meehan and Robert Reese officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Thad Simons Sr., Warrenton; her daughter, Brenda Austin, Reidsville, N.C.; two sons, David Simons, Milledgeville, and Thad Simons Jr., St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Louise Reeves, Dearing, Jane Mather, Augusta, and Frances Reid, Avera; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Junior Thompson, Curtis Smith, Kevin Wren, Steve Power, Allen Wood and Kevin Mather.

Curtis Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lucille Hadden Lewis
Mrs. Lucille Hadden Lewis of Wadley died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004.

The funeral was Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. at Pineola Church of God with the Elder Ronnie Harden officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lewis Wesby and Betty Lewis Chase, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Letha Burley, Swainsboro; three sons, Sylvester Lewis Jr., Miami, Fla., and Willie B. Lewis and Charles J. Lewis, Wadley; one sister, Leste' Stokeley, Daytona Beach, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Edward Aldred Jr.
Mr. Edward Aldred Jr. of Bartow died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004.

Mr. Aldred, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Reuben E. and Eva Newsome Aldred Sr. He was a tool and die maker and retired from Thermo-King. He was a member of the Old Bethel Baptist Church and a Woodman of the World.

The funeral was Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at Old Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Eiland and Bill Thigpen officiating. Burial was in Parker United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joe Ann Aldred, Bartow; four daughters, Peggy and Barry Wood, Louisville, Thelma and Kenny Watkins, Wadley, Bobbie Jean and Randy Newsome and Joanna Lord, Bartow; a sister-in-law and husband, Betty Sue and Emmitt Stavely, Bartow; sister-in-law, Mrs. Ganier Price, Michigan; brother-in-law and wife, Billy and Madelyn McKenzie, Bartow; two paternal aunts, Mrs. Edith Gordy, Wadley, and Mrs. Natalie Radford, Swainsboro; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were cousins, Frank Neman, Lindsey Hannah, Doc Hannah, Ray Black, Robert Black, Jimmy Black, Tommy Gordy and Lyman Gordy.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Louisville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Harold Blair Sr.
Mr. Harold Blair Sr., 57, of Louisville died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004.

Mr. Blair was a native of Jefferson County and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. He was married to the former Sara Mae McKinney.

The funeral was Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Avera with the Rev. Carlos Newton Sr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his children, Andre' Anderson Blair, Newport, NC, and Harold Blair Jr., Syracuse, NY; one brother, Willie "Spank" Gaston, Wrens; his grandchildren, Andrea, Kevin, Kyree and Jasmin; a devoted friend, Lillie Brown; eight aunts and uncles; two nieces; cousins and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Stanley Thomas, Leon Berry, J.W. Smith, Lamar Mathis, Walter Berry, Horace Davis and Curtis Lockhart.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Alvin Duff Bryant
Mr. Alvin Duff Bryant, 94, of Jackson, SC, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004.

Mr. Bryant, a native of Ellenton, SC, had made Jackson his home for the past 52 years. He was a charter member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, the Baracca II Sunday School class, a deacon and a former deacon of the Ellenton Baptist Church. He retired in 1975 from the E.I. DuPont Company at the Savannah River Plant and was a member of the Jackson Lions Club. He was the son of the late John and Lottie Norris Bryant.

The funeral was Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Jackson with the Rev. Edward Newsome officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian "Dimples" Bryant; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dallis Bryant McKenzie, Stapleton, and LeeDean and Jimmy Ledford, Jackson; eight grandchildren, Deidra Chandler, Jackson, Jeri Austin, Augusta, Staci Browder, Aiken, Craig Mercer, Augusta, Cindy Mercer, Stapleton, Christy Flores, Kings Mountain, NC, Eric Ledford, Aiken, and Donovan Ledford, Jacksonville, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Iris Franklin, Vaucluse.

Pallbearers were Ted Bryant, Don Bryant, Wayne Franklin, Barry Franklin, Mike Franklin and Bennie Adams.

Honorary pallbearers were the Baracca II Sunday School class, Doug Holley and Wayne Deweese.

Idelle Sheppard Chalker
Mrs. Idelle Sheppard Chalker, 94, of Gibson died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson.

Mrs. Chalker was a life long resident of Glascock County. She was a member of Gibson United Methodist Church where she served as pianist until this past year. She worked many years in the garment industry and several years at the Gibson Health & Rehabilitation Center. She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Chalker, and two sons, Jerome and Jimmy Chalker.

The funeral was Nov. 5 at 11:30 a.m. at Gibson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Griffin Thompson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Juanice Clark, Hiawassee; a son, Jacky Ray Chalker, Gibson; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were great-grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the Glascock County Concerned Citizens, c/o Mrs. Corene Chalker, 3037 Bastonville Rd., Gibson, GA 30810.

Hattie L. Haynes
Mrs. Hattie L. Haynes, 87, of Wrens died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004.

The funeral was Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. W.L. Jones officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Mildred J. (Charles) Jacobs and Carrie L. (Alton) Douglas, Newark, N.J.; four sisters, Freddie L. Jordan and Christine Wright, Wrens, Pauline Smith, Augusta, Jessie P. Marion, Trenton, N.J.; three brothers, Henry Robinson, Fall Rivers, Mass., E.W. Robinson, Syracuse, N.J., and Milton Robinson, Trenton, N.J.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Rudolph
Mrs. Annie Rudolph of Augusta died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Rudolph was a native of Jefferson County.

The funeral was Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Brown Jr. officiating. Burial was at Thomson Springhill AME Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Rudolph; two daughters, Willie Mae (Kenneth) Ross, Newman, Lestine Hatcher, Augusta; one sister, Bertha M. Chester, Augusta; one brother, Lenton D. Oatman, Augusta; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sons-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Williams Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lawrence Daniel Ruley Sr.
Mr. Lawrence Daniel Ruley Sr., 74, of Stapleton died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004.

Mr. Ruley was retired from the U.S. Army.

A memorial service was held Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Ruley; two sons, Lawrence Ruley Jr., and William Dan Ruley, Fredericksburg, Va.; five daughters, Aleta Ruley, Norwich, NY; Laura McTier, Thomson, Debbie Haywood, Warrenton, Cindy Holland, Lakeland, Fla., and Teresa Purcell, Warrenton; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Portsbridge Hospice, 1227 Augusta West Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909, or the Georgia Sheriffs Children's Home, P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, GA 30281.

Larry Smith
Mr. Larry Smith, 50, of Louisville died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at a Statesboro hospital.

Mr. Smith, a native of Jefferson County, was a 1974 graduate of Louisville High School. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and an employee of Raynonier.

The funeral was Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at Jones Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Davis officiating. Burial was in Spring Bethel Benevolent Society Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise McGruder Smith of Louisville; his children, LeRhonda Denise Smith, Louisville, and LaTasha Denetta Gordon, Valdosta; his parents, Walter Smith Sr. and Emma Lee Washington Smith, Louisville; his siblings, Johnnie Freeman Smith, Roanoke, Va., Walter Smith Jr. and Willie James Smith, Louisville, Betty Redfield, Matthews, and Donnie Smith, Atlanta; five grandchildren; seven brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; 11 aunts and uncles; three great-aunts; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Active pallbearers were members of Louisville High School Class of 74 and employees of Raynonier.

James Eli Stewart
Mr. James Eli Stewart, 67, of Mitchell died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004.

Mr. Stewart was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. He was retired after over 20 years of service at Merrit Dredging Company and a Navy veteran.

A memorial service was held Nov. 9 from 6-8 p.m. at his residence.

Survivors include Mrs. Jeanette Garn, Mitchell; one daughter, Renea (Chesser) Henderson, Mitchell; two brothers, William Stewart, Mitchell, and A.E. Stewart, Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Nell Downs, Mitchell, and Kathryn Widup, Tenn.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans.
