Henry Delbert Goforth
Mr. Henry Delbert Goforth, 88, of Louisville died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Goforth, a native of Gafney, S.C., was the son of the late Floyd Goforth and the late Lilia Mathis Goforth. He was the owner of the Goforth Auction and Realty Company and a licensed auctioneer in Georgia and South Carolina. He was a member of the Goucher Baptist Church in Gafney. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife Marian Wallace Goforth.

Graveside services were Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. in the Louisville Cemetery with the Rev. William Moody officiating.

Survivors include a sister, Ruby Baker, Gafney, S.C.; friends, Geneva Betzold, Davisboro, Helen McIntosh and Henry Johnson, Louisville, and Carl Faulk, Augusta.

May and Smith Funeral Directors, Sandersville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Bernice Williams Thompson
Mrs. Bernice Williams Thompson, 85, of Martinez died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004.

Mrs. Thompson, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in the Augusta area since 1976 and was a member of Flowing Wells Worship Center.

The funeral was Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Renew officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Faye and Bob Johnson, Lakeview, Mich., Elene and Jesse Davidson, Harlem, Laura and Thom Daniel, Louisville, and Karen and Jack Ford, Martinez; two sons, Charles Perdue, Bolivar, Tenn., and Jimmy Perdue, Augusta; a sister, Barbara Woodward, Augusta; two brothers, Harvey Faglier, Statesboro, and Joe Faglier, Dearing; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were her nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, GA 30904.

Annie Ruth Irby Amerson
Mrs. Annie Ruth Irby Amerson, 83, of Keysville died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Burke County Hospital.

Mrs. Amerson, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband John Amerson and a son Jimmy Amerson.

The funeral was Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Moore officiating. Burial was at Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Detroit and Gloria Amerson; one daughter, Alice Faye Luckey, Hephzibah; two sisters, Martha Murray, Enverness, Fla., and Agnes Holley, Augusta; three grandchildren, Detroit Amerson Jr., Jeffery Amerson and Deranda Faye Westbrook; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bob Barrow, Ed Barrow, Larry Holley, Lowrin Barrow, Jeff Irby and Jason Irby.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Post Office Box 563, Wrens, GA 30833.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Glennis Thompson Boyd
Mrs. Glennis Thompson Boyd, 49, of Louisville died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Mrs. Boyd, a native ofJefferson County, was a member of the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church. She was a 1972 graduate of Louisville High School and a 2003 graduate of Sandersville Tech where she studied child care.

The funeral was Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Fredrick Ricks officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Boyd, Louisville; her children, Princel M. Tarver, Falicia L. Boyd and Jerry Brown, Louisville; her parents Tommie Thompson and Mary Frances Wells Thompson, Louisville; her siblings, Ozark Wells and Jeannette Thompson, Louisville, Roger Thompson and Annie Harris, Atlanta; her maternal grandmother, Louise Wells, Louisville; six grandchildren; one son-in-law; six brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Cedrick Thompson, Calvin Wells Sr., David Wells, William Wells, Antwan J. Wells and Stanley Wells.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church.

Flower bearers were the Jefferson County High class of 1972.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Rancy Edward McGahee
Mr. Rancy Edward McGahee, 83, of Wrens died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at The Georgia War Veterans Home.

Mr. McGahee was a native of Jefferson County and a member of Waldens United Methodist Church. He served in the Army during World War II.

The funeral was Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Goodman officiating. Burial was at Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Gibson and her husband Jim, Titusville, Fla.; two brothers, Farris McGahee, Wadley, and Gleman McGahee, Avera; and one sister, Jeanette Emeigh, Port Huron, Mich.

Pallbearers were Tim Williams, Curt Newsome, Jeff Pennington, John McGahee, Harold McGahee and Faye McGahee.

Memorials may be made to Waldens United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1494 Hadden Pond Road, Avera, GA 30803.

Mary R. Godowns
Mrs. Mary R. Godowns, 79, of Louisville died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004.

Mrs. Godowns was born Oct. 17, 1924, the daughter of the late Bruer David Rabun and Evie Harden Rabun. She was a member of the Walden's United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband Louie W. Godowns.

The funeral was Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. at Walden's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marvin Goodman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Ricky Godowns, Louisville; a daughter, Belinda Sheram, Louisville; four grandchildren, Dr. Mary Lynn Sheram, Charlottesville, Va., Tiffany Howard, Wrens, Steven Louie Sheram, Louisville and Trenton Ricky Godowns, Statesboro; three great-grandchildren, Trevor Rowland and Hayden Howard, Wrens, and Savannah Grace Godowns, Statesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Cleo Rabun Boulineau and Mrs. Ouida Rabun Boulineau, both of Wrens.

Pallbearers were Judson C. Boulineau Jr., David R. Rabun, Danny Venters, William Rabun, Lamar Rabun, Billy Godowns, Tommy Godowns and Faye McGahee.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

William Habersham
Rev. William Habersham of Winterville died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004.

Rev. Habersham, a native of Jefferson County, was a 1961 graduate of Jefferson County High School and a veteran of the US Army where he served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Jones Grove Baptist Church and an ordained minister. He ministered many churches including Jones Grove Baptist Church. He was presently pastoring New Zion AME Church in Crawford and Hall Grove Baptist Church in Bowman.

The funeral is Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. at Jones Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Dudley and David Batts officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie Wingfield Habersham, Winterville; his mother, Willie Mae "Dee" Habersham, Athens; his children, Lenward Jackson, Louisville, Darin "Randy" Habersham, Douglasville, Shouton Habersham, Marietta, Karen M. Jones, Hephzibah, Anthony Johnson and Sebrina Johnson, Spartanburg, SC, Mark A. Kelly, Tina K. Mathis and Lenita K. Howard, Athens, and Cynthia K. Moses, Lithonia; his sisters and brothers, Bettye Greene, Rosa Sapp, Patterson, NJ, Janie Lamar, Louisville, Evelyn Vaughn, Wadley, Northern Habersham, Brooklyn, NY; his mother-in-law, Willie Maude Wingfield, Athens; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Dea. John Henry Broomfield, Dea. Verdree Walden, Dea. Clint Hortage, Bro. J.B. Armstrong, Dea. Charles Echols and Dea. Johnny Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ministers of the Gospel and 1st Ladies.

Helen King Phillips
Mrs. Helen King Phillips, 70, of Wrens died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004.

The funeral was Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. at Spread Chapel AME Church in Stapleton with the Rev. Charlie Myrick officiating. Burial was in Dade Memorial Park, Miami, Fla., on Sept. 1 at 2:30 p.m.

Survivors include her children, Brenda Burse, Herman King and Latavia Phillips; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lenora Williford
Miss Lenora Williford, 64, of Stapleton died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004.

Miss Williford was a member of Stapleton Baptist Church.

The funeral was Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy White officiating. Burial was in Stapleton Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Louise Hobbs Williford, Stapleton; one brother, James "Jim" Williford, Indiana; two nephews, Dale and David; one niece, Joni; and a loving friend, Alda Farmer.

Pallbearers were James Sutton, Robert Sutton, James Kitchens, Kevin Prescott, Marvin Parris and Clay Prescott.

Memorials may be made to the Stapleton Baptist Church Building Fund, 360 Harvey Street, Stapleton, GA 30823.

Calvin Spear
Mr. Calvin Spear, age 83, of Bartow died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Spear was a native of Glascock County and was retired from the Department of Transportation.

The funeral was Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial was in Jordan Chapel Church Cemetery in Edgehill.

Survivors include two daughters, Jerolene Josey, Bartow, and Marilyn Hattaway Hillman, Bainbridge; one sister, Blanche Stavely, Bartow; four grandchildren, Renee Josey, Louisville, Tine Josey Coleman, Bartow, Scottie Hattaway, Waycross and Amanda Hattaway Bessada, Cumming; four great-grandchildren, Ashlee Coleman, Bailie Coleman, Colby Coleman, all of Bartow, and Madison Grace Hattaway, Waycross.

Pallbearers were Jerry Josey, John Coleman, Scottie Hattaway, John Mark Bessada, Richard Stavely and Hubert Cheeks.

Honorary pallbearers were DOT employees.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry Hadden
Mr. Jerry Hadden, 67, of Avera died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at University Hospital.

Mr. Hadden, a native of Jefferson County, served in the Army. He was retired from Deerfield Papermill where he worked for over forty years.

The funeral was Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Thigpen officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Arrington Hadden; one son, Eric Hadden and his wife, Kerry, Matthews; one brother, Troy Hadden, Avera; four sisters, Lois Leeland, Ms. Betty Irby, Mary Rooks, Barbara Sammons, all of Avera; and four grandchildren, Jacob Hadden, Katelyn Phillips, Isaac Phillips, and Johnathan Phillips.

Pallbearers were Charles Walden, Bobby Williams, Lucius Thigpen, Robert Mathis, C.S. Anderson, Clayton Johnson and Dan Chalker.
