LaTonya Monique Jones
Ms. LaTonya Monique Jones died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Ms. Jones, a native of Jefferson County, was a 1995 graduate of Wrens High School and a 1996 graduate of Warm Spring in childcare. She was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be June 5 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church with the Revs. Thomas Berry and Willie Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Barbara Dixon Jones, Wrens; her father, Brank Jones, Wrens; a sister, Brenda Jones, Augusta; paternal grandmother, Mary Lue Jones, Wrens; a nephew, godmothers, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Davis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kathleen Perkins Hewett
A memorial service for Kathleen Perkins Hewett will be held Saturday, June 5 at 12:30 p.m. at the Louisville Cemetery.

Ms. Hewett is the daughter of Dr. Henry Perkins and Ruby Holloday Perkins.

Survivors include her daughters, Krystal Hewett Kilbourne and Joy Hewett; grandsons, Arden and Keith Kilbourne; a great-granddaughter, Cierra Kilbourne; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the service.


Georgia Death Index 1919-1998

Dayton Hibner
Mr. Dayton Hibner, 84, of Louisville died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Medical College of Georgia.

Mr. Hibner, a native of Ithaca, Mich., moved to Georgia in 1955. He was a retired farmer.

The funeral was May 28 at 11 a.m. at Pinecrest Mennonite Church with Paul Wegner, Maynard Peters, Randal Goossen and Ken Diller officiating. Burial was in Pinecrest Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hibner; two sons, Kendal and Sharilyn Hibner, Louisville, and David and Cheryl Hibner, Stapleton; six grandchildren; one brother and several relatives.

Pallbearers were Wesley Hibner, Michael Giesbrecht, Jeffery Ensz, Terry Hibner, Crist Gearig and Junior Gearig.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mattie I. Brown
Mrs. Mattie I. Brown of Wrens died Saturday, May 15, 2004.

Mrs. Brown, a native of Washington County Georgia, received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Fort Valley State College. She also attended the University of Atlanta. She was a member of Spring Bethel AME Church where she served as a Classleader, Stewardess and President of the Missionary Society, a member of Spring Bethel Benevolent Society, chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Augusta Georgia Conference Branch Women Missionary Society, President of Jefferson County Teachers Association, Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association as secretary. She also served as Worthy Matron and Trustee of Rising Star Chapter 31 Order of the Eastern Star, Loyal Lady Ruler of Mary Neal Allen Assembly 317 Order of the Golden Circle and a Tutor in Jefferson County.

Survivors include a son, Rev. Andrew (Sarah) Brown, Augusta; two daughters, Valerie Cruse (Joe) Pressley, Columbus, Ohio, and Maggie Branch, New York, NY; a brother, John Golar Jr., Sandersville; a sister, Jennie Pearl Maxwell, Sandersville; daughter-in-law, Clara Brown, Wrens; sisters-in-law, Roberta Brown, Savannah, and Hattie Brown, Louisville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Tommie Lee Butts Sr.
Mr. Tommie Lee Butts Sr. died Monday, May 17, 2004.

Mr. Butts was a member of Sand Valley AME Church where he served as a trustee and usher. He was a self-employed carpenter for several years. He was predeceased by two children, McArthur Butts and Mattie J. Butts.

The funeral was May 20 at 3 p.m. at Sand Valley AME Church with the Rev. Samuel Thompkin presiding and the Rev. Leroy Britt officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie B. Butts; a daughter, Mary (Willie) Way; sons, Tommie Lee (Cheryl) Butts Jr., Billy (Mary) Butts Sr. and Bobby (Earnestine) Butts, all of Louisville, and Jimmy (Marshal) Butts, Atlanta; a sister, Carrie Robinson, Atlanta; a brother, P.J. Butts, Atlanta; sisters-in-law, Inez Davis, Louisville, Eunice (Arthur) Brown and Clara Rhineheart, Augusta; brother-in-law, Willie Bigham, Augusta; 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dickerson "Boss" Johnson
Mr. Dickerson "Boss" Johnson, 104, of Louisville died Wednesday, May 5, 2004.

Mr. Johnson, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Jordan and Amie Atkinson Johnson. He was a member of Gordon Grove Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War I. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Gibbons, and two sons, Robert Johnson and Charles Johnson.

The funeral was May 13 at Gordon Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Holloway officiating and the Revs. Mack and Walter Holmes assisting. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his children, Willie (Essie) Johnson, Louisville, Mazie Stephen, Wadley, and Annie Ruth (Alex) Holmes, Bartow; sisters-in-law, Annie Jessie Atkins and Hellen Gardner, Louisville; a devoted friend, Willie Alice Palmer, Louisville; 28 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; 47 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

William T. Coxwell
Mr. William T. Coxwell, 86, of Avera died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the V.A. Medical Center in Augusta.

Mr. Coxwell was a member of Pleasant Grove and an Army veteran of WWII.

Graveside services were held May 22 at 3:30 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Daniels officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Naomi Hadden Coxwell; his stepson, James E. Seams Jr., Oxford; a granddaughter and great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Stapleton Baptist Church in care of Mr. Braddy Jones, 245 George Street, Stapleton, GA 30823.

Frank Fleming Clark
Mr. Frank Fleming Clark, 82, of Wadley died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Clark, a native of Louisville, was the son of the late James William and Mary Dixon Little Clark. He attended Louisville public schools and graduated from the University of Georgia with a BBA degree; at the University, he was an active member and president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an intelligence staff officer in military intelligence, after attending Calvary School, OCS at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign in Luzon, Southern Philippines and received a Presidential Testimonial and Army Commendation ribbon. He served a number of years in the Army Reserve following the war and was honorably discharged as a captain. He was a lifelong member of the Louisville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Robert Casper Walker, Marshallville; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. James William Clark Jr., Thomaston, Mrs. William Little Clark, Evans and Mrs. Samuel M. Clark, Louisville; two nieces and eight nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the Louisville United Methodist Church Window Fund, Louisville United Methodist Church, 301 West Seventh Street, Louisville, GA 30434.

Helen Hodges Gilmore
Mrs. Helen Hodges Gilmore, 87, of Louisville died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Gilmore, a native of Washington County, was the daughter of the late Rufus Lester Hodges and Carrie B. Brantley Hodges. She was a 1934 graduate of Davisboro High School, the owner of The Little Shop. She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church, the Gilbert-McTier United Methodist Women's group and Barwick Sunday School class. Mrs. Gilmore was instrumental in founding the Beautification Fund for Jefferson Hospital.

A memorial service was May 21 at 11 a.m. at the Louisville United Methodist Church with the Revs. Pat Mahan and Ed Dean officiating.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Hazel Amerson, Sandersville; a son, Harry S. Gilmore Jr., Louisville; a daughter, Janice Armstrong, Smyrna; six grandchildren, Harry S. Gilmore III, Michelle Brown, Cathy Mulherin, Stony Gilmore, Renee Kelly and Chantay Sammons; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Honorary escorts will be members of the Gilbert-McTier women's group and Barwick Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to Jefferson Hospital, 1067 Peachtree St. or Louisville United Methodist Church, 301 W. 7th St. in Louisville.

Mollie Cowan
Mrs. Mollie Cowan, 91, of Louisville died Tuesday, May 18, 2004.

Mrs. Cowan, a life-long resident of Jefferson County, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Louisville and the Fidelis Sunday School Class and a retired beautician. She was the wife of the late Mr. Robert E. Cowan.

The funeral was May 21 at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Louisville with the Revs. Larry L. Montgomery and Marty Walker officiating.

Survivors include two sons, Don Cowan, Watkinsville, and Jimmy Cowan, Gallatin, Tenn.; a daughter, Jane Dekle, Metter; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Danny Read, Bill Read, Sam Cowan, Tommy Cowan, Ben Scott, Tommy Banks, Phil Cowan, Stewart Walker III and Joe McDaniel.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Louisville, 101 East Ninth Street, Louisville, GA 30434.

Sandra Davis Johnson
Mrs. Sandra Davis Johnson, 54, of Newberry, Fla., died Saturday, May 8, 2004.

Mrs. Johnson, a native of Van West, was formerly of Louisville

The funeral was May 13 at Thomas Milam Funeral Home, Newberry, Fla.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Stephen Johnson; two daughters, Kimberly (Thomas) Laverghetta, Naples, Italy, and Cynthia Schaeffer, Delphos, Ohio; one son, William (Kim) Davis, Louisville; her mother, Ruth I. Cooper, Delphos, Ohio; one sister, Cheryl (Benjamin) Puzon, Crawfordville, Fla.; one brother, Stephen M. Cooper, Delphos, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

Clara Mae Brooks
Mrs. Clara Mae Brooks of Wadley died Sunday, May 16, 2004.

Mrs. Brooks, a native of Kibbie, was the daughter of the late Walter V. and Heneritta Moore Smith. She was a retired seamstress with Market Manufacturing and a member of Moxley United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Brooks.

The funeral was May 19 at Louisville Church of God with the Revs. Eddie Wiggins and Don King officiating. Burial was in the Old Moxley Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Mae Brooks, Wadley, and Barbara Etta Radford, Avera; one brother, Nathaniel Smith, Augusta; one sister, Ms. Bobbie Janette Smith, Wadley; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Della Terrell Howard
Mrs. Della Terrell Howard, 98, of Louisville died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley.

Mrs. Howard, a native of Green County, lived in Jefferson County most of her life. She was a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church where she served as Mother of the Church for many years.

The funeral was May 15 at 11 a.m. at Magnolia Baptist Church and Cemetery with Pastor Perry Daniels officiating.

Survivors include her children, Authur Lee Howard, Quincy, Fla., Louise Lockhart, Atlanta, Quantrell Hannah, Louisville, Ferrie Hannah, Kalamazo, Miss.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
