Ollie Mae Mountain
Mrs. Ollie Mae Mountain died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at a convalescent home in Stockton, Calif.

Mrs. Mountain was born and raised in Wrens and moved to Miami, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Mountain; and a son, Richard Crews.

The funeral was July 8 at 1 p.m. at Lifeseed Christian Fellowship, Stockton, with Pastor Henry Ingram officiating. Graveside services were July 10 at 10 a.m. in Remembrance East Garden at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi.

Survivors include her children, James Brown, Midlothian, Va., Clarence Collier, Miami, Fla., Theresa Ingram, Stockton, and Oliver Crews, Miramar, Fla.; brothers and sisters, Wesley Brown, Miami, Ed Willie Brown, Mitchelle, Md., Betty Barnes, Washington, D.C., Willie Brown, Silver Spring, Md., and Lillie Ann Drayton, Washington, DC; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jamie Leniece Moore Hickox
Mrs. Jamie Leniece Moore Hickox, 69, of Patterson died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick.

Mrs. Hickox, a native of Jefferson County, lived in Pierce County most of her life. She had owned and operated Leniece's Beauty Shop for 15 years and was a member of The Patterson Baptist Church where she was in the Hope Sunday School Class. She was the daughter of the late James Layton and Elizabeth Jeanette Price Moore.

The funeral was Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at Patterson Baptist Church. Burial was in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, James Daniel "J.D." Hickox; two daughters, Susan and Derral Rooks, Dudley, and Kathy and Gene Bridges, Patterson; a son, Ronnie and Teresa Hickox, Waycross; two sisters, Barbara and Jerry Powell, Wadley, and Debra and Joe Adams, Vidalia; three brothers, Bill and Glenda Moore, Atlanta, Rick and Chyrle Moore, Wadley, and Tim and Sherry Moore, Rainbow City, Ala.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or to the Southeast Cancer Unit, P.O. Box 2764, Waycross, GA 31502.

Billy J. Jones
Mr. Billy J. Jones, 51, of Louisville died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Jones was a native of Jefferson County and attended Jefferson County High.

The funeral was March 3 at 11:30 a.m.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Jones, Atlanta; his mother and stepfather, Daisy M. Facyson and J.P. Facyson, Millen; his father, Ernest Jones, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; son, Brandon Jones, Louisville; grandmother, Rebecca Holiman, Wadley; siblings, Ernest Jones Jr. and Ethel Jones, Ft. Lauderdale; aunts and uncles, Emma (Freddie) Gallon, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Annie Ruth Holiman, Ernest Holiman, Wadley, Emma Lee (William) Anderson, Gough; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Levey J. Phillips Jr.
Mr. Levey J. Phillips Jr. of Vidalia died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006.

The funeral was March 1 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Wadley with the Rev. Herman Baker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Josephine Gunder, Wadley; three sons, Levey J. Phillips III, Harrisburg, Pa., Tommy Dixon, Atlanta, and Frankie Dixon, Louisville; seven sisters, Shirley Gibbons, Ashbury Park, N.J., Dollie White, Harrisburg, Pa., Eloise Usery, Mt. Pocono, Pa., Marylene Usery, Louisville, Felicia Usery and Maxine Usery, Wadley; two brothers, Dewey Phillips, Jacksonville, Fla., and James Usery, Macon; and several other relatives.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mattie Emma Jackson Powell
Mrs. Mattie Emma Jackson Powell of Bartow died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006.

The funeral was March 2 at 2 p.m. at Jones Chapel CME Church with the Rev. Mack Thomas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Willie C. Powell Jr.; five daughters, Beverlyn Green and Helen Roberson, Wadley, Delois Heath and Antoine Deborah Smith, Louisville, and Kathleen Assad, Bartow; one son, Larry Jackson, Bartow; a stepson, McArthur Thomas, Bartow; three sisters, Ferist James and Annette Ficklin, Atlanta, and Rosa Lee Gibbons Lynn, Newark, N.J.; two brothers, Newman Jackson Jr., Atlanta, and Oliver Gibbons, Bartow; a stepmother, Addie Lena Jackson, Bartow; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Carrie Ola Rich
Mrs. Carrie Ola Rich, 74, of North Augusta, S.C., died Friday, March 3, 2006.

Mrs. Rich, a native of Jefferson County, made her home in Aiken County for the past 64 years. She was a member of the Talatha Baptist Church and was a retired manufacturing associate with the Kendall Company.

The funeral was March 6 at 11 a.m. at Talatha Baptist Church with the Rev. David Lester officiating. Burial was in Talatha Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Lee Rich; a son, James O. Rich Sr., Shelby, Ala.; a daughter, Rose Marie Sampang, San Diego, Calif.; a half-brother, Earl Prickett, Graniteville, S.C.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Essie Mae Watson
Mrs. Essie Mae Watson, 93, of Harlem died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at the Gibson Nursing Home.

Mrs. Watson, a native of Clayton, Ala., was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class. She is preceded in death by her husband Walter Glenn Watson.

The funeral was March 7 at 11 a.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church with the Revs. Greg White and Jerry Price officiating. Burial was in the South Harlem Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Walter Dean Watson, Wrens, and Richard Watson, Hattiesburg, Miss.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Sarah Elsie Cheeks
Mrs. Sarah Elsie Cheeks, 97, of North Augusta, S.C., died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006.

Mrs. Cheeks, a native of Washington County, was a former resident of Louisville. She lived in North Augusta for the past 16 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta. She is preceded in death by her husband Leamon Cheeks, and a daughter, Sarah Virginia Cheeks.

The funeral was Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home with Dr. Gary C. Redding officiating. Burial was in Davisboro Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Robert Croom, North Augusta, and Christine and Clinton Beck, Elkridge, Md.; a brother, Dr. Robert E. Dudley, Olympia, Wash.; three sisters, Mary Walker, Columbus, Ms., Maude Andrews, Tucker, and Claude Bellew, Warthen; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

MaryJo Atkinson Chevalier
Mrs. MaryJo Atkinson Chevalier, 50, of Augusta died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006.

Mrs. Chevalier, a native of North Augusta, lived in Augusta for the past 16 years. She was a member of Silvercrest Baptist Church and was a retired dental assistant with Dr. Logan Nalley.

The funeral was Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home with Dr. Eleazer Benenhaley officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardenss.

Survivors include her husband, Tommy Chevalier; a daughter, Amy Nicole Horn, Forest City, N.C.; three stepsons, Michael Chevalier, San Diego, Calif., Joe Chevalier, Dallas, Tex., and Charles Chevalier, Houston, Tex.; two brothers, Rev. Robert Atkinson, Wrens, and Tommy Atkinson, North Augusta; four sisters, Ann Forseth, Jane Williams, Lorrie Hopkins, all of North Augusta, and Hope Courtney, Aiken; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Matt May, James Staub, Sonny Rutherford, John Brinson, Wayne Josey and Joel Chitty.

Frank Hardeman Jr.
Dr. Frank Hardeman Jr. died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at his residence.

Dr. Hardeman, a physician to many for the past 60 years, was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church but attended Wesley Oak United Methodist Church in Thunderbolt. He was the son of the late Frank Hardeman Sr. and Lillah Rhodes Hardeman of Louisville. He graduated from Emory University in Atlanta with an A. B. degree in biology in 1941. In 1942 he served on active duty for the US Navy with interim activation for service in the US Naval Hospitals in Beaufort, S.C.; Spain; Guam; Okinawa; and Iceland. He served as the general medical officer of clinics in Okinawa and Greece. He retired with the rank of captain. He served for two years on active duty at sea, as medical officer of the USS Chukawan - AO100 and was a veteran, having served in the US Navy during WW II. He received his medical degree from the University of Georgia School of Medicine in 1945, and then served an Internship at the US Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla .

He served as resident surgeon for the Central of Georgia Railway Hospital in Savannah from 1948 - 1953 and he also served as resident physician for Warren A. Candler Hospital in Savannah.

From 1953 to Dec 31, 2005 he was in solo practice of general medicine and surgery. He had an office based practice along with active staff privileges at Candler Hospital, St. Joseph's (adjunctive) and Memorial Health University Medical Center (emeritus) in Savannah.

He was previously medical director for Heritage Park Nursing Home, providing care for roughly 40 percent of its patients. He also held staff privileges at Chatham, Savannah Rehabilitation, Tara at Thunderbolt and Azalealand Nursing Homes.

He previously served as chief of staff at Oglethorpe Sanitorium. He was a Fellow in the International College of Surgeons; a member of the Sons of the Revolution in the State of Georgia; a retired member of the College of International Surgeons, a member of the Military Surgeons of the US, Life Member of the Reserve Officers of America, Ga Medical Society, American Medical Association, the Naval Reserve Association - Retired Captain, USNR - MC; sons of the Confederate Veterans, Francis S. Bartow Capt # 93, where he was Past Commander; Military Order of the Stars and Bars, Lafayette McLaws Chapter # 97, where he was Past Commander; a member of the Coastal Heritage Society; member of the Georgia Historical Society, member of the Civil War Round Table, Savannah Grays Chapter; member of the Southern Medical Association, member of the Georgia Bulldog Club, and had formerly served as Team Physician for the Savannah Redlegs.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Giles Hardeman, Thunderbolt; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank Hardeman III and Juliet Hardeman, Thunderbolt, ; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and David Thompson, Statesboro; a brother, Rhodes Hardeman, Evans; and two grandchildren, Haley Elizabeth & Hannah Catherine Hardeman both of Thunderbolt.

The funeral will be Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home with the Revs. Lynn Drake and Billy Hester officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on the "Isle of Remembrance".

Fred Kelley "Ted" Harvey Jr.
Mr. Fred Kelley "Ted" Harvey Jr. of Louisville died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006.

Mr. Harvey was a prominent lawyer and businessman and had been a partner in the law firm of Abbot, Murphy and Harvey, P.C. since 1987. He served on the Board of Directors of Queensborough National Bank & Trust Company, Fulghum Fibres, Inc., and Georgia Bankers Association Bank Counsel Section and was a member of Louisville United Methodist Church. He was born July 17, 1944, in Milledgeville and grew up in Louisville. After graduating from The University of Georgia in 1966, Mr. Harvey attended The University of Georgia School of Law where he served with distinction on the Law Review and graduated with honors in 1970. He practiced law in Augusta for 16 years before moving back to Louisville to form a partnership with Jim Abbot and John Murphy in 1987. He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Fred K. Harvey, and his mother, Julia Conn Harvey.

The funeral was Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ed Denn and Beau Taylor officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Virginia Price Harvey; three sons, Thomas C. Harvey and William H. Harvey, both of Atlanta, and Jeffrey M. Harvey, Savannah; his sister, Julia Catherine Harvey Newberry, Gray; and his aunt, Marjorie Morton Hicks, Louisville.

Pallbearers were John Murphy, Johnny Reid, Heyward Wells, Tony Hauff, Malcolm Skinner, Dan Fowler, Jim Overstreet, Bill Easterlin and Kenneth Cook.

A. Floyd Pennington III
Mr. A. Floyd Pennington III, 63, of Matthews died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006.

Mr. Pennington was the son of the late Andrew F. Pennington and Emily Story Pennington of Matthews. He graduated from Wrens High School and the University of Georgia. He served with the Navy Seabees in Vietnam from 1966 until 1968. He was a lifetime employee in the agricultural equipment business, having worked for International Harvester Company for 25 years and most recently, filled the needs of the agricultural community while working for Patrick Tractor Company in Tifton.

The funeral was Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. at Mount Moriah United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jim Emory and Ed Chance officiating, with music by John Templeton.

In addition to his mother, Emily Pennington, survivors include his wife, Virginia Brooks Pennington; a daughter, Melissa Pennington Cummins, Tifton; two sons, Mark G. Pennington and his wife, Ashley, Murfreesboro, Tenn., and John E. Pennington of Atlanta; a brother, Sam S. Pennington and his wife, Dolly, of Matthews; a sister, Deborah Pennington and her husband, Mike Helton; two grandchildren, Conner Cummins and Garret Pennington.

Pallbearers were Jim Milton, Troy Stewart, John Jones, Jeff Jones, Jeb Barrow and Jim Gay.
