Edna Mae Thigpen
Miss Edna Mae Thigpen, 72, of Wrens died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Jefferson Hospital.

Miss Thigpen, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Annie Lou Thigpen. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Jane Thigpen.

The funeral was May 7 at 2 p.m. at Waldens United Methodist Church with the Revs. Doug Todd and Ronnie Shelton officiating.

Survivors include a son, Danny Williams, Wrens; one brother, Herbert Thigpen, Ivey; four sisters, Thelma Manning, Louisville, Betty Chalker, Blythe, Jewell Griswell, Mitchell, and Virginia Shelton, Wrens.

Pallbearers were David Bullard, Gary Hutchens, David Reese, Matt Stevens, Bill Snider, Kenneth Hardin, Detroit Amerson and Bill McGlohorn.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Stacey A. McNair
Miss Stacey A. McNair, 36, of Wrens died Saturday, May 6, 2006.

Miss McNair was a member of Ways Baptist Church.

The funeral was May 10 at 11 a.m. at Ways Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Cole and Wayne Turpin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James McNair, Wrens; her brother, Vincent and Anita McNair, Wrens; a nephew, Joshua McNair, Wrens; and several cousins.

Pallbearers were Jimmy May, Mike McDonald, Kenneth McDonald, Dale Morris, Lee Matthew, Mitchell Doss, Ryan Doss, Adam McNair and Chris May.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Georgia Death Index 1919-1998

Jean H. Martin
Mrs. Jean H. Martin, 80, of Wrens died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Martin was self employed of Cliff Martin Enterprises and Cliff Martin Dairy Queen. She was a Methodist. She attended University of Georgia and taught elementary school in Bullock County. She was a member of D.A.R. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Martin Sr., and two sons, Cliff Martin Jr. and Joseph B. Martin.

The funeral was May 4 at 2 p.m. at the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy White and Randall Goosen officiating.

Survivors include her son, Walter P. Martin; a sister, Ann Kennedy; and two granddaughters.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Trey Martin, Jay Martin, Walt Martin, Jimmy Martin, Steve Martin and Daniel Martin.

Honorary pallbearers were Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Wrens Police Department and Richmond County Narcotics Department.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jessie Simpkins Jr.
Mr. Jessie Simpkins Jr. of Swainsboro died Friday, April 28, 2006.

The funeral was May 6 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Louisville, with the Rev. Alvin Simpkins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Simpkins; two daughters, Mary Frances Thorne, Wrens, and Lucinda Bryant, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; four stepsons, Albert Lee Davis, Elijah Davis, Randolph Davis and Gary Davis, Swainsboro; two sisters, Flora Williams, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Betty Johnson, Louisville; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; four brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and several other relatives.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmie Lee Bostic
Mr. Jimmie Lee Bostic, formerly of Wadley, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at Glendale Nursing Home.

Mr. Bostic was the son of the late Georgia Ann and Louis Bostic. He was a member of the Pierce Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral was May 10 at 3 p.m. at Pierce Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Sampson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Sallie and Deacon Sam Gross, Wadley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ella Lucille "Lou" Williams
Mrs. Ella Lucille "Lou" Williams of Matthews died Friday, May 5, 2006, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Williams, a native of Augusta, spent the last 20 years in Matthews. She retired from Forts Cleaners in Augusta and was the owner of Lou's Country Kitchen in Matthews. She was a member of New Beginnings Church in Wrens.

The funeral was May 8 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son. Burial was in Westover Memorial Park.

Survivors include a son, Jackie Self; and three daughters, Linda Holbrooks, Marie Taylor and Brenda Blitchington; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers were Johan Jagnandan, Danny Williams, Jerry Sloan, William Price, Charles Cook, Charlie Cook and Russell Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors, Augusta, was in charge of the arrangements.

Lavonya Boatwright
Mrs. Lavonya Boatwright, 29, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006. Mrs. Boatwright was a 1996 graduate of Burke County High School and a member of Ways Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral was Oct. 1 at 2:30 at Ways Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy McCullough officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Hakela Boatwright, Davisboro; a son, Deondra Hannah, Davisboro; her mother, Emma Baker, Augusta; her father, Eddie Hannah, Augusta; sisters, Shunta Boatwright and Tyresa Stringer, Augusta; brothers, Kerston Boatwright, Tulsa, Okla., and Jabrial Saxon, Augusta; grandmother, Ruby Baker, Wrens; and her caregiver, Tomeka Baker, Wrens.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Newsome Brooks
Mrs. Evelyn Newsome Brooks, 79, of Wrens died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at Old Capital Inn Home.

Mrs. Brooks was the daughter of the late Ellis Newsome and Annie Padgett Newsome. She was retired from Stapleton Garment as a seamstress and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Brooks.

The funeral was Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her son, Joe (Lynette) Brooks, Wrens; three grandchildren, Scott, Jeff and Greg Brooks; one great-grandson, Jared Joseph Brooks; two sisters, Louise N. Wells, Atlanta, and Jeanette N. Hadden, Blythe; and two brothers, Lamar Newsome, Augusta, and M.P. Newsome, Gibson.

Pallbearers were Albert Padgett, Wade Brooks, Melvin Hadden, Dwayne Hadden, Nathaniel Newsome and Terry Brooks.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Bobbie Kitchens, 1092 Oak St., Avera, GA 30803.

Jessie Bell “Baby” Dixon
Mrs. Jessie Bell “Baby” Dixon, formerly of Louisville, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, in Miami, Fla.

Mrs. Dixon, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church where she served as a Missionary. She was the preceded in death by her husband L. P. Dixon.

The funeral was Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Pine Hill Baptist Church and Cemetery with the Rev. Peter Sparks officiating. Survivors include her daughter, Sallie Dixon Roberson of Miami; two sisters in-law, Corine Dixon Brown and Ann Ponder Dixon of Louisville; and five grandchildren. Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lula Brinson Dixon
Mrs. Lula Brinson Dixon, 88, of Wadley died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006.

The funeral was Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Cross-Green Community with the Rev. Bennie Brinson officiating.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Joseph D. Green, Thomson, and Mr. Solomon C. Green, Augusta.

Jogresan Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Brenda McNure Douglas
Mrs. Brenda McNure Douglas, 57, of Louisville died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Mrs. Douglas, a native of Emanuel County, was employed with Davis McGraw in Louisville and was a member of Jordan Chapel Church of God in Edgehill.

The funeral was Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peebles- Curry-Durden Mortuary with the Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial was in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Adam Douglas, Thomson, and Brian Douglas, Twin City; one sister, Judy McNure; one brother, Bobby McNure, Vidalia; and one grandson.

Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Ms . LaShonda Nicole Thomas Hicks, 34, of Wadley, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006.

Ms. Hicks, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Solomon Temple Baptist Church.

She attended Jefferson County Public Schools and worked as a nursing assistant at Keysville Nursing Home.

The funeral was Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Life Ministries International, Wadley.

Burial was in the Solomon Temple Baptist Church Cemetery, Moxley.

Survivors include her children, Malikka Shante Thomas and Johnny Markel Thomas, Wadley; her father, Willie Albert Thomas Sr., Wadley; her siblings, Stephanie Boatwright, Jeremy Thomas and Etweice Thomas, Wadley, Willie Albert Thomas Jr., Phoeniz, Ariz., Rodney Thomas and Travoskie Thomas, Brooklyn, NY, Terrence Thomas, Atlanta, and Kentrell Thomas, Savannah; her maternal grandfather, Aubrey Mincey, Wadley; paternal grandfather, Dessie Thomas Sr., Louisville; and several other relatives.

Otis “Bog” Johnson,
Mr. Otis “Bog” Johnson, formerly of Wadley, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at Parkview Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Johnson, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church.

The funeral was Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Ebenezer CME Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his children, Shellie (Sammie, Sr.) Morgan, Lithonia, Annie Dorothy (Calvin) Curry, New York, NY, and Annette Benton, Lawrenceville; one brother, N.J. “Shangle” Johnson, Wadley; eight grandchildren; and several other relatives.
