Charles R. Pressley
Charles R. Pressley, 56, of the Corinth Community died Thursday at Alvista Healthcare in Greenville.
Mr. Pressley, born Sept. 7, 1946, in Atlanta, was the son of the late James and Mildred Tanner Pressley. He was a Navy Vietnam veteran, had lived in Corinth for the last 15 years and retired after 30 years from AT&T; in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy J. Pressley of Corinth; two sons and a daughter - in - law, Charles R. Pressley Jr. of Atlanta and Alan and Laurie Gallaway of Hogansville; a daughter and son - in - law, Deborah and Ken Powell of Dayton, Tenn.; three sisters, Kay Martinuska of Covington, Denise Ognebene of Mableton and Jean Barr of Griffin; and three grandchildren, Christopher Alan Hart, Mallory Gallaway and Alyssa Powell.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9.

Eddie Roy Thomas of West Point died Thursday at Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, Ala.
Unity Mortuary in Valley, Ala., is in charge of arrangements.

Judy Gosdin Helms
Mrs. Judy Gosdin Helms, 62, of 141 Robert Taylor Road, died this morning at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Helms, born Feb. 11, 1941, in Heard County, was the daughter of the late Joe and Lizzie Parmer Gosdin. She retired from Milliken and Company and was a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include a grandson and granddaughter - in - law, Russ and Jennifer Freeman; a daughter and son - in - law, Glenda and Dixon Kary; and two great - grandsons, Cole Freeman and Trent Freeman, all of LaGrange; two step grandchildren, Victor Kary and Jeremy Kary; a brother and his companion, Winston Gosdin and Nancy Coulter of LaGrange; four sisters, Fayzelle Berry of LaGrange, Pairzelle Rushing and Betty and John McCollough, all of Valley, Ala., and Dorothy and James Whitmore of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Kay Helms; two brothers Demus Gosdin and Dempsey Gosdin; and two sisters, Ilene Smith and Ima Adams.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Shadowlawn Cemetery with Preacher Mike Reeves officiating.
the family will be at the home of her daughter at 46 River Mist Drive, and will receive friends at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.

Lynda Bennett Beavers
Lynda Bennett Beavers, 80, of Avondale Estates, formerly of LaGrange died Thursday.
Mrs. Beavers, born Dec. 1, 1922, in LaGrange, was the daughter of the late Howard and Mable Bennett. She was a former member of LaGrange First United Methodist Church and attended LaGrange City Schools and was a graduate of LaGrange College. She was formerly married to James Lee DeFreese and moved to Avondale Estates in 1950. She was a member of Decatur First Methodist Church, Decatur Civic Chorus, and Avon Garden Club. She taught second grade for 25 years and was twice chosen as star teacher. She married Roy Linton Beavers in 1972 and they built a home on Lake Lanier featuring a rock fireplace made of rocks collected from all over the nation on their travels. After her retirement, they became avid Airstream Club members, visiting Airstream camps from the Top of Georgia to the Land Yacht Harbor in Melbourne, Fla., where she loved to play cars and visit, organizing the library and singing in the choir. She loved traveling, reading and maintaining family traditions, especially at Christmas.
Survivors include her husband and primary caregiver, Roy Linton Beavers Jr.; a son, James Lee DeFreese Jr. and a daughter, Melissa DeFreese Garrett; a stepson Roy L. Beavers III; five grandchildren, Donald DeFreese, Lisa Dickson, Tom Farrell, Amy Long and Amanda Beavers; seven great - grandchildren and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur with Tommy Lankford officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 5 until 7.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Atlanta Hospice.

Mary Marsh of 412 Camelot Dr., died Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center.

Shirley Mae Smith
Mrs. Shirley Mae Asbury Smith, 58, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Florence Hand Home.
A native of Troup County, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Frankie Cotton Asbury. She retired as a dietitian from West Georgia Medical Center.
Survivors include three daughters, Vickie Kendricks, Mary Smith and Catherine Smith, all of LaGrange; three sons, Victor Smith and Michael Smith, both of LaGrange and LeRoy Smith Jr. of Bowling Green, Ky.; two sisters, Veola Bugg and Pauline Herndon, both of LaGrange; two brothers, Alton Williams of LaGrange and Cecil Williams of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; and several other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Smith Sr.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Temple Church of Deliverance at 121 Edgewood Ave., with Elder Charlie Chivers officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Vickie Kendricks at 1105 First Ave., and will receive friends at West Georgia Mortuary this evening from 7 until 8.

W. Hugh Goodson
William Hugh Goodson, 72, of Franklin, died Wednesday at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Goodson, born Nov. 28, 1930, in Heard County, was the son of the late Hugh and Seba Williams Goodson. 'Little Hugh' was a prominent businessman and a former Heard County Commissioner. He was responsible or many of the improvements in the county and his great imagination prompted him to build the Franklin Music Park, which brought some of the biggest names in entertainment to the area. He was also a former chairman of the hospital board, which he served on until his death, and the Heard County Water Authority. He was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge, the Heard County American Legion and was a member of Franklin United Methodist Church.
Mr. Goodson was a graduate of Franklin High School and attended West Georgia College and the University of Georgia where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict in the Japanese Theater. His building skills were well known by the beautiful log homes he built.
Survivors include two daughters and sons - in - law, Pat and Larry McGrady of LaGrange, Diane and Donnie Dunlap of Franklin; a son and daughter - in - law, Buddy and Susan Goodson of Franklin; a sister and brother - in - law, Margaret and Ben Hill of Franklin; seven grandchildren and a great - grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Peel Goodson.
Funeral services will be this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Franklin United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Franklin City Cemetery. The body will be at the church a half hour before the service.
Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jean E. Robinson
Mrs. Jean Elaine Robinson, 52, of 316 Eichelberger Drive, died Monday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Robinson, born June 27, 1949 in LaGrange, was the daughter of the late Hurley H. Harris and Imogene Laster Harris. She was a lifelong resident of LaGrange and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She worked for LaGrange Molding for 18 years.
Survivors include her husband, Cary Robinson; a daughter, LaRhonda Robinson; a son and daughter - in - law, Buck and Mandy Robinson; two grandchildren, C.J. Robinson and Justin Robinson; a brother, Richard Harris; her mother - in - law, Katherine Robinson, all of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary, 1010 Mooty Bridge Road, with the Revs. Randy Terrell and Kenneth Parker officiating. Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery. The family will be at their home and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 - 1905, in memory of Mrs. Robinson.

Mrs. Mary L. Barfield
Mrs. Mary Lou Barfield, 82, of 409 Brookwood Drive, Thomaston, died Sunday at Upson Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Barfield, born May 28, 1919 in Wrightsville, was a resident of Upson County most of her life and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Buford Barfield of Thomaston; a daughter Linda Barfield Lotts of Jackson, Miss.; a son, Steve Barfield of LaGrange and a grandson, Nathan Lott of Jackson, Miss.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Baptist Church of Thomaston with the Dr. Edwin L. Cliburn officiating. Burial will be in South View Cemetery in Thomaston.
Pasley - Fletcher Funeral Home in Thomaston is in charge of arrangements.

Elese Traylor Hansley
Mrs. Elese Traylor Hansley died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2002, at a Coney Island Hospital in New York following a stroke at her home in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Hansley, born Dec. 27, 1926, was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Elese Traylor. She was a graduate of LaGrange College and was a counselor at Mary Baldwin College in Virginia, taught school in North Carolina and Connecticut before moving to New York City, where she was employed for several years in secretarial positions. During this time, she earned a master's degree at Columbia University Teachers College. After her marriage, she assisted her husband in the operation of his business, Hansley Products, for the rest of her life.
Survivors include her husband, Warren L. Hansley of Brooklyn, N.Y., a brother, H. Grady Traylor of LaGrange; six nephews, Kevin Hansley of New Canaan, Conn., Lawrence Hansley of Vista, Calif.; the Rev. Charles R. Traylor of Lasalle, Colo., Mark A. Traylor of Woodbridge, Va., William Randolph Traylor of New Orleans, La., and Steven R. Traylor of Ashburn, Va.; two special friends, Susan Buckenham of Atlanta and Sarah Funderburk of LaGrange; and several local Traylor and Loyd cousins.
A private family graveside service was Saturday, March 1, in the family cemetery with the Rev. Charles Traylor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, it was her request that those desiring contribute to the church or charity of their choice.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road was in charge of arrangements.
