C. L. Whitley
C.L. Whitley Jr., 75, died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center. He was born September 25, 1926 in Columbus, Ga., son of the late Charlie Lee and Lottie Mae Nix Whitley. He was a member of Gray Hill Baptist Church and a active member of the Troup County Senior Center. Mr. Whitley was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Marietta Cotton Whitley; four daughters, Dottie and Thomas Henson and Crickett Whitley, all of LaGrange, Carolyn Foster of West Point, and Anne and Nick Simpson of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a son, Jack and Peggy Whitley of LaGrange; seven grandchildren; 16 great - grandchildren; four brothers, David Whitley and Earnest Whitley, both of LaGrange, Elbert Whitley of Marietta and Bob Whitley of Pine Mountain; three sisters, Gladys McDonald of Mount Vernon, Alberta Hamilton of Lakeland, Fla., and Louise Clark of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and a special friend, Milner Hill of LaGrange.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of six years, Mrs. Edna Sims Whitley; a daughter, Charlene Beegle; two grandchildren; a great - grandchild; a brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Striffler - Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Roland Cross and Pastor Charles Greathouse officiating. Burial will be in Hillview East.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary, 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kate F. Maddox
Mrs. Kate F. Maddox, died this morning (Monday) at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.
The family will be at the home of her daughter and son - in - law, Marie and James Bruce at 153 East Greenwich Circle.
A service by Mackey - Wilson - Jennings Funeral Home.

Patricia Lovelace
Graveside services for Patricia Lovelace of 1303 Polk St., will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Southview Cemetery. The Rev. W.T. Edmondson will officiate.
Miss Lovelace, a native of LaGrange, was the daughter of the late Mose III, and Mary Barton Lovelace. She was a 1968 graduate of East Depot High School and employee of Milliken and Company (Kex Plant).
Survivors include a son, Zinte Lovelace of Nashville, Tenn.; three brothers, Walter Lovelace of Tacoma, Wash.; Pete Smith of Chicago, Ill.; Paul Smith; niece, Leisa Williams; nephews, Walter (Iris) Lovelace, all of LaGrange, and Sangiluan (Eunice) Cofield of Baton Rouge, La.; aunts, Ruth Broughton of LaGrange, Daisy Barton of Atlanta; uncles, Walter Barton Sr. of LaGrange, Lewis Barton of Atlanta; great nieces; great nephew, and other relatives.
A service by Mackey - Wilson - Jennings Funeral Home.

Charlie Battle
Charlie Battle, 66, of 218 Colquitt St., died July 4 at Columbus Medical Center.
Mr. Battle, born November 3, 1935 in Troup County, was the son of the late Willie and Johnnie Mae Dunlap Battle.
Mr. Battle was a life - long resident of LaGrange, was a member of the Old Mount Olive Baptist Church, attended school in the LaGrange City School System and was a faithful and loyal retired maintenance employee of Kleen - Tex Industries, Inc.
Survivors include a son, Roderick Bertrand Battle of LaGrange; a sister, Ms. Virlin Battle of LaGrange; three brothers, Carol and Thelma Dunlap and Alton and Bertha Battle, all of Chicago, IL; and Ellis and Velma Battle of LaGrange; two sisters - in - law, and a brother - in - law, Virginia and Otis Wright of Fortson, Ga., and Elsie Parks of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers - in - law, Charlie and Louise Simpson of Atlanta and Robert Simpson of Franklin; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Simpson Battle, parents, and brother, Ernest Battle.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2002 at Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home. The Rev. W.T. Edmondson will officiate. Burial will be in the Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at the residence of his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis and Velma Battle, 303 McGregor St.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson - Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

George P. Jenkins
George Pearce Jenkins Jr., 65, of Barnesville, formerly of LaGrange, died Friday at Spalding Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary, 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Shaina Damron
Shaina L. Damron, 18, of 10859 Chipley Highway, Pine Mountain, died Thursday, July 4 in Columbus, Ga.
Miss Damron, born January 8, 1984 in LaGrange. She was a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church and was a 2002 graduate of Manchester High School and was employed at Chipley Video.
Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at Beech Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Hendrix and Bryan Geter officiating. Burial will be in Pine Mountain Cemetery.
Survivors include her mother and father, Suzanne and Lee Damron; father and step - mother, Bill and Debbie Martin; sister, Sabrina Damron; brothers, Cody Damron and Colt Martin; maternal - grandmother, Mrs. Shelby Jean Murphy; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Nina Ruth Damron, all of Pine Mountain; paternal grandfather, Charles L. Damron Sr. of Arizona; and several aunts and uncles.
The family will be at their respective homes, the home of Suzanne and Lee Damron, 10859 Chipley Highway and the home of Bill and Debbie Martin, 5848 Hopewell Church Road and will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bobbie J. Tanner
Mrs. Bobbie Jean Tanner, 68, of Amberwood Apts., died Thursday at her residence.
Mrs. Tanner, born May 7, 1934 in LaGrange, was the daughter of Mrs. Vara Lee Moran Clark and the late Jack Clark. She attended New Community Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors other than her mother, include daughter, Janice Sellars, son and daughter - in - law, Freddie Cole and James C. Cole; nine grandchildren; four great - grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Jeff Williams, JoAnn Poole, and Carolyn Huffman; and a brother, Harold Clark, all of LaGrange. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Herman Clark, Carlos Clark, and Billy Clark.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand chapel with the Rev. Lamar Womack officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Barbara Livingston Pattillo
Mrs. Barbara Livingston Pattillo, 61, of Greenville, S.C., and a former resident of LaGrange, died Wednesday at her home with her family by her side.
Mrs. Pattillo, born June 18, 1941 in LaGrange, was the daughter of the late Joe Henry and Mary George Sivell Livingston Sr. She attended UGA and graduated from LaGrange College with a degree in history and education.
Mrs. Pattillo was a member of the Cotillion Club of LaGrange, a wonderful teacher in special education and was a huge supporter of the Special Olympics. She was a devoted mother and wife, who spent her life caring for others. Mrs. Pattillo made the world a better place and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, H. Michael Pattillo Sr. of Greenville, S.C.; two sons and daughters - in - law, H. Michael Jr. and Melinda Pattillo of Columbus, and Christopher Neal and Mia Pattillo of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter and son - in - law, Caroline Elizabeth and Doug Rostick of Landrum, S.C.; two sisters and a brother - in - law, Mrs. Joyce McKeown of Lakeland, Fla., and Leown and Bill Newman; three brothers and two sisters - in - law, Joe H. Jr and Ethel Livingston, all of LaGrange, Ken and Gloria Livingston of Pine Mountain, and Mel Livingston of Apalachicola, Fla. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Livingston and Lawrence Livingston, both of LaGrange.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7 in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand chapel with the Rev. Gino Dalvnardo officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday one hour prior from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.
The family asks that instead of sending flowers that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her name to help find a cure for this terrible disease or to Hospice LaGrange in memory of Mrs. Pattillo.

Charlie Battle of 218 Colquitt St. died this morning at Columbus Medical Center.
The family will be at the residence of his brother, Ellis Battle at 303 McGregor St.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home.

Jimmy Irvin Farr
Funeral services for Jimmy Irvin Farr, 64, of Roanoke, Ala., will be Saturday at 2 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with The Revs. Ricky Emery and Bobby Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memory Gardens.
Mr. Farr died Thursday at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
A lifelong Roanoke resident, Mr. Farr was born January 30, 1938, in Carroll County. He was the son of the late Britt and Leola Hallman Farr. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and had been a policeman with the Roanoke and Wedowee Police Departments.
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Bolan Farr of Roanoke; a daughter, Rhonda and Bobby Crowder of LaGrange; three sons, Ricky and Tammy Farr, Randy and Tommie Farr and Mike and Candy Farr, all of Roanoke; three sisters, Freddie McCard and Opal Blackmon of Roanoke, and Frances Sayer of Robbinsville, N.C.; a brother, Donald Farr of Roanoke; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lindsey and Howard Farr, and a sister, Virginia Yates.
The family will be receiving friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home in Roanoke from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday.
Quattlebaum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin G. Gross
Funeral services for Colonel Melvin G. Gross, 78, of Wedowee, Ala., will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rocky Branch Church with the Rev. Johnny Bishop and the Rev. Clayton Scott officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with military honors.
Colonel Gross died Thursday at Northeast Alabama Regional Center in Anniston, Ala.
A Randolph County native, Colonel Gross was born October 29, 1923. He was the son of the late Millard Orbie and Oris Elizabeth Kirby Gross. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and West Georgia College.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, the Korean and Viet Nam wars. He was a member of the VFW, Disabled American Vets, the Retired Educators Officers Association, Kiwanis Club and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He received three Purple Heart.
He served on the Board of Human Resources and was a member of the Randolph County Republican Committee. He was a member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church, the Men's Brotherhood and was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include three daughters, Laurie Gross Whaley, Ginny Gross Langley and Sandy Gross White, all of Wedowee; a son, Donald Wayne Gross of Hogansville; four grandchildren, James Scott Whaley, Steven Aaron Whaley, Will Langley and Jared White; a sister, Mollie Raisanen of Anniston; an aunt, Earl Bishop of Birmingham and a special friend, Nell Haynes of Wedowee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Awbry Gross; a brother, Bill Gross and a son, John Robert Gross.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. this evening. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral hour.
The family suggests memorials be made to Alzheimer's Research, Alzheimer's Association, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1100, Chicago, Ill., 60611 - 1676 or to Rocky Branch Baptist Church in memory of Colonel Gross.
