Edward J. Albarado
Edward Joseph Albarado, 51, of West Point died Wednesday at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Albarado, born Sept. 28. 1951, in West Point, was the son of the late Eugene Joseph Albarado Jr. and Lucile Waldroup Albarado Monroe. He was a graduate of Troup High School and attended Southern Union Community College. He retired from the Navy with 20 years of service having served in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf as a chief in the submarine service. He was a purchasing agent for Interstate Electrical Supply and had been a police officer with the City of West Point. He was a member of Long Cane Lodge Free and Accepted Masons and The Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Hill Albarado of West Point; two daughters and a son - in - law, Erin and Carl Locklear of Savannnah and Casey Lynn Albarado of Goose Creek, S.C.; a son and daughter - in - law, Adam and Terri Blackwell of Hogansville; three brothers and two sisters - in - law, Jerry and Shirley Albarado of Waldorf, MD., Gene Albarado of Alexandria, Va., and John and Jaunita Albarado of Woodbridge, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Pastor Tom Carter officiating. Burial will be in Marseilles Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to a favorite charity in memory of Mr. Albarado.

John Henry Cofield
John Henry Cofield, 90, of 1435 West Chew Ave., in Philadelphia, Pa., formerly of LaGrange, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Mr. Cofield, born March 10, 1912, in Troup County, was the son of the late Henry and Ora Lee Darden Cofield. He was a retired textile worker and had lived in Philadelphia for 40 years.
Survivors include four sons, William and Virginia Cofield of Frankfort, Ky., John Henry Cofield of San Diego, Calif., and Robert Cofield and Allen Green, both of Philadelphia; a sister, Sallie Maude Leonard of Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; 13 great - grandchildren, three nieces, Ola Mae Reed of LaGrange, Joyce Lee of Philadelphia and Mary Ann Dicks of Virginia; two nephews, Jim Hubert and Perry Lee, both of Philadelphia; and several cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Valley Grove Baptist church at 126 Grady St. with the Rev. J.R. Ware officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at Hampton Inn and the procession will leave from there at 10:15 a.m. Saturday. They will also receive friends at Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home Friday evening from 7 until 8.

Miss Bernice Shirey
Miss Bernice Shirey, 88, of LaGrange died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Brian Center Nursing Care.
Miss Shirey, born June 25, 1914, in Troup County, was the daughter of the late James and Dora Newell Shirey. She had lived here all her life and was a graduate of LaGrange College. She retired as a classroom teacher from LaGrange City Schools. She was a member of East Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Frances Webb of Decatur; five nieces, Carol Balsham and Jane Simmons of Atlanta, Ellen New of Loganville, Irene Updegrove of Terrace Park, Ohio and Jane Patterson of Ellenwood.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at East Vernon Baptist Church with the Revs. Clayton Scott and Ronnie Puckett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miss Shirey will be at the church at 1 p.m. and the family will receive friends there before the service.
Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Louise Terrell
Mrs. Louise Haynes Terrell, 78, of LaGrange died Wednesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Terrell. born July 16, 1924, in Standing Rock, Ala., was the daughter of the late Jesse and Myrtle Lanier Haynes. She lived in LaGrange most of her life, was a member of the Baptist church and was the wife of the late William C. Terrell.
Survivors include five daughters, Betty Sue Patterson of Woodland, Ala., Sandra Lynn Sutton of Whitesburg, Toni Brown of Hogansville, Pam Coe of LaGrange, and Patricia Jo Prestridge of Newell, Ala.; three sons, Randall Terrell of Franklin, David Terrell of West Point and Samuel Terrell of LaGrange; two sisters, Doris Sellers and Patricia Carlisle, both of LaGrange; a brother, Jesse Lee Haynes Jr. of Birmingham, Ala.; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great - grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, William C. Terrell Jr.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Billy McCullough and Jimmy McMillian officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 7 until 9.

Russell M. Van Tuyl
Russell M. Van Tuyl, 96, died Friday, Jan. 3. 2003, at his home in LaGrange.
Mr. Van Tuyl was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired as a captain from United Airlines.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Rachel Pinson Van Tuyl; two nephews, Paul Van Tuyl of San Antonio, Texas and Scott Lanum of Rockville, Md.; a niece, Christine Lanum Shaw; a brother - in - law, John Blake Lanum; and a grand niece, Rachel C. Shaw of Lake Forest Ill.
Graveside services will be Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating.
McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan is in charge of arrangements.

David M. Dopp
David M. Dopp, 54, of Hogansville, died Tuesday, Jan. 7. 2003, at Brian Center Nursing Care.
Mr. Dopp, born Jan. 8, 1948, was a lifelong resident of Hogansville. Prior to his illness, he was a computer specialist for James River Corporation in Newnan and Clark - Holder Clinic in LaGrange. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Hogansville.
Survivors include his wife, Kitty Polston Dopp; a daughter and a son - in - law, Lisa and Ken Webb; his parents, Andy and Beatrice Thrower Dopp; three grandchildren, Becky Jones, Mandy Jones and Kendal Webb, all of Hogansville, and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Revs. Charles Crenshaw and David Pickard officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9.

Mrs. Tilda Thornton
Mrs. Tilda Mae Towns Thornton, 94, of 911 Hines Road died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at her home.
Mrs. Thornton, a native of Troup County, was the daughter of the late Joe and Annie Bell Heard Towns. She was a member of Louise United Methodist Church.
Survivors include six sons and five daughters - in - law, James and Eva Carter of Atlanta, Willie and Lucille Thornton, Walter Thornton, Rev. Lonnie and Sybrenna Thornton, all of Mountville, Joseph and Catherine Thornton of LaGrange and Tommy and Dorothy Thornton of Louise; four daughters and two sons - in - law, Annie and Talbert Dyer of Evanston, Ill., Margaret Fitzpatrick and Beatrice and Bernie Jackson, all of LaGrange, and Mable Bray of Mountville; a niece, Myrtis Robinson of LaGrange; 42 grandchildren, 48 great - grandchildren four great - great - grandchildren and several other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Thornton.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Louise United Methodist Church with the Rev. W.E. Geter officiating. Burial will be in the Beasley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at her home.
West Georgia Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Charlie Mae Chivers
Mrs. Charlie Mae Chivers, 73, of 115 Mitchell Avenue, Apt. 40, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Chivers, born May 12, 1929, in Troup County, was the daughter of the late Charlie Riggins and Maidee Lewis Gates. She was a retired domestic and joined the welcome Baptist church at a young age. In later years she joined the New Beginings Baptist Church. She was a foster parent to several children outside her immediate family.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter - in - law, Freddie and Von Cherry and William Cherry; a daughter, Gloria Stargell, all of LaGrange; two sisters and a brother - in - law, Iann (Sue Lue) Stargell of Dayton, Ohio, and Mary Kate and William Ogletree of LaGrange; eight grandchildren. Teresa and Mike Reed, Jacqueline Cherry, Nina and Wayne Glover, Valerie McFarland, Sabrina Stargell, Tiffany and Brittany Cherry, all of LaGrange and Katrina and Dwayne Goss of Valley Ala.; a devoted and loving nephew, Robert L. Gates of LaGrange; other nephews and nieces, Curtis E. and Jennifer Stargell, Gwendolyn and Tyrone Arnold, Shante Stargell and Jackie and Lamar Stargell, all of Dayton, Ohio; Edward Easter of Atlanta; Willie Ogletree Jr., Destine and Deoshaunique Ogletree, all of LaGrange; other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at New Beginings Baptist Church at 506 Ware St., with the Rev. William E. Harris officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Gloria Stargell at 812 N. Greenwood St.

Mrs. Ella Burnham Bowen Martin, 70, of Turin and a native of Troup County, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Mary E. Woody
Mrs. Mary E. Woody, 85, of LaGrange, died Monday Jan. 6, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Woody, born Jan. 29, 1917, in LaGrange, was the daughter of the late Lovic and Minnie Johns Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of Franklin Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Bob Woody of LaGrange; a daughter, Patricia Veal of Roanoke, Ala.; seven grandchildren; ten great - grandchildren; and four sisters, Sara Davis and Wynell Slaughter of LaGrange, Hazel Neely of Jonesboro and Betty Hearn of Brooks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Augustus Woody.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, in the chapel of Striffler - Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Frank Sledge officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary, at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of the arrangements.
