Mrs. Mary S. Brantley
Mrs. Mary Strozier Brantley, 72, of Smyrna, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from Smyrna First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Steve Kimmel and the Rev. Doug Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Glenhaven Memorial Gardens in Macon.
She was an executive secretary for Gold Kist Corp. for 20 years retiring in 1993. She was a member of the Smyrna First Baptist Church where she was in the LLL Club and the Phebean Sunday School class and was a member of the Celebration Choir.
Survivors include her mother, Marie Simpson Allen of Macon; a son, Jeb Brantley of LaGrange; daughters, Mirriel Johns of Athens and Pam Gilbert of Duluth; brother, Leonard Strozier of Macon; a sister, Alice Fields of Macon; eight grandchildren; and a great - grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna.

David Battle
David Battle, 52, of 3182 Cameron Mill Road died Tuesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Battle, born, Sept. 21, 1950, in Troup County, was the son of Minnie Cofield Cameron of LaGrange and the late Etoney Cameron and Walter and Lurene Cameron Battle. He attended Ethel Kight High School and was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a devoted cousin and caretaker, Jean Farmer of LaGrange; a brother, Edward Charles Cameron of Atlanta; a sister, Melinda C. Hinson of LaGrange; a sister - in - law, Barbara Cameron of Atlanta; a brother - in - law, Willie F. Callaway of Atlanta; two aunts, Annie C. Hayes and Maria C. Grant, both of LaGrange; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friend. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha C. Callaway and two brothers, Otis Clyde Cameron and Willie Frank Cameron.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Smyrna Baptist Church on Highway 219 with the Rev. Lonnie Walls officiating Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at his home.
Arrangements are by Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home.

Gilbert Cooper
Gilbert Durand Cooper, 68, of LaGrange, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Cooper, born May 19, 1934, in Fitzgerald, was the son of the late Chelsey and Berta Mae Yarbrough Cooper. He retired after 45 years as a supervisor for Playtex International and was active in the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter - in - law, Terry P. and Jessica P. Cooper of West Point and David D. Cooper of LaGrange; two grandchildren, Indy Cooper and Sara Cooper of West Point; a sister, Suzy Farris of Jacksonville, Fla., and a brother, Wallace Cooper of Wichita, Kan.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Striffler - Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Mike Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to Hospice LaGrange at 1510 Vernon Road, in LaGrange.
Striffler - Hamby - Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred A. Mallory
Mrs. Mildred Avery Mallory, 80, of Vernon Woods, died Wednesday of cancer at the home of her daughter Libba Oubre, on the Oak Grove Road in Pine Mountain.
Mrs. Mallory, born Dec. 29, 1922, at Jones Crossroads, was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. R.M. Avery. She was the wife of the late Arthur Eugene Mallory Jr. and lived in LaGrange all of her life. She was Miss LaGrange High School of 1940 and attended Shorter College and Mercer University.
As a young woman, she was an office assistant for a local dentist, Dr. Jackson, but spent many happy years after that as a homemaker caring for her six children. She was a Red Cross volunteer and the first co - chairman of the Harwell Avenue Elementary School Parent Teacher Association. In mid - life she began a successful rental property business when she saw the need for nice, affordable, small apartments for new residents of LaGrange. She was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square where she served as president of the Women’s Missionary Union for three terms and a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She is remembered by her family as a faithful, encouraging friend, who was always willing to listen to problems and continually looked on the bright and often humorous side of every situation.
Survivors include six children and their spouses, Libba Oubre of Pine Mountain, Margie and Bill Green of LaGrange, Art and Linda Mallory of Fallon, Nev., Peter and Sarah Beth Mallory, Tim Mallory, and Ned and Kelly Mallory, all of LaGrange; 20 grandchildren; one great - grandchild and another on the way; and a sister, Eunice Hale Avery Hutchinson of Athens, Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers, Needham Charles Avery, Dr. William Green Avery and Robert Marvin Avery.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Ida Cason Callaway Chapel of First Baptist Church on the Square with the Rev. Hope Taylor officiating. There will be private family burial in Meadoway gardens.
The family will receive friends at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a fund she established at Oak Grove Congregational Christian Church at 1264 Oak Grove Road in Pine Mountain, a church of special interest to her prior to her death.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Ann Wascura
Mrs. Dorothy Ann Wascura, 76, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in Florida.
Mrs, Wascura, born March 8, 1926, in Wilkes - Barre, Pa., married her husband, Joseph, in 1946 and raised their family in Pennsylvania and Illinois before moving to LaGrange in 1972. They owned and operated the Collegiate Grill on Main Street.
Survivors include her sons, Joseph Wascura of Coral Gables, Fla., and Frederic Wascura of Casselberry, Fla.; daughters, Cathleen Gaines of Biscayne Park. Fla., and Nancy Neal of Lexington Park, Md.; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Betty Lou Reed of Selinsgrove, Pa. and Lena Angley of Forty - Fort, Pa.; two brothers, John F. Culp III of Austria and George V. Culp of Aurora, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Joseph Wascura.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Advent Lutheran Church with the Rev. Amy Onstad officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 5 until 8 at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to the Troup County Senior Center, 140 Ragland St., LaGrange, Ga. 30241, in memory of Mrs. Wascura.

Lucille Walker
Lucille Walker of Detroit, Mich., died Saturday in Detroit.
Mrs. Walker was the daughter of the late Lula Hardnett and Frank Boddie.
Local survivors include a sister, Katherine Polly Broughton of LaGrange; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Annie Mae Woodard and a brother, Ernest Boddie.
Funeral services will be today in Detroit.
Barksdale Fneral Home at 1120 East State Fair in Detroit is in charge of arrangements.

Palmer S. Jackson
Mrs. Palmer Stinson Jackson, 97, of the Odessadale Community died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Jackson, born Aug., 7, 1905, in Meriwether County, was the daughter of the late Jim and Mamie Andrews Stinson. She was a very active member of Brinson Chapel C.M.E. Church where she was on the Stewardess Board and as mother of the church. She was an avid gardener known for her vegetables and beautiful flowers. Her energy level was exuberant and a source of untiring inspiration.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Renee A. Bernard of Atlanta and Marguerite McGroarty of Sacramento Calif.; three stepsons, James O. Jackson of Greenville, Theodore Jackson of Warm Springs, and Atkinson Jackson of Detroit, Mich.; and several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Brinson Chapel C.M.E. Church in Greenville with the Revs. Walter Barnes and Perry Broughton officiating. Burial will be in the Greenville City Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of James Jackson in the Odessadale Community.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Suwalak Davenport
Mrs. Suwalak Davenport, 41, of 348 Kimbrough Rd., died Wednesday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Davenport, born Aug. 15, 1961, in Bangkok, Thailand, was the daughter of Sopon Mewattananon of Bangkok Island, Thailand and Boonrat Boonchun of Plainfield, Conn. She was employed at Kaydon Corporation before her illness.
Survivors in addition to her parents, include two children, Deatra Davenport of LaGrange and Jeff Davenport of Panama City, Fla.; a brother, Kealolta Cossey of LaGrange; two sisters, Sawanee Gangeshan of LaGrange and Ruby Cossey of Plainfield, Conn., and her fiance, Gaines Thornton.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at her home.
Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
