Mattie Holley
Mattie Holley, 78, of LaGrange died Sunday at Kindred Hospital in Atlanta.
Mrs. Holley was the daughter of the late John Henry and Josephine Cato and was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Hogansville.
Survivors include three daughters, Flossie Harrison, Mattie Holley and Josephine Banks, all of LaGrange; a son, Henry Lee Holley of Columbus; 20 grandchildren, 20 great - grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Fannie Bell Williams and Alice C. Earl; and one brother John Henry Cato.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rocky Mount Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
A service by Mackey - Wilson - Jennings Funeral Home.

Pam W. Murphy
Pam W. Murphy, 56, of 300 Plymouth Drive died Tuesday at the Shephard Spinal Center in Atlanta.
Mrs. Murphy, born March 11, 1947, in Newport, Rhode Island, was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy Rodemhausen Wayne. She was employed as a medical transcriptionist at MedQuest and was formerly employed at Clark - Holder Clinic.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, James I. Murphy; a daughter, Debbie Murphy, both of LaGrange; a brother and sister - in - law, Charles L. and Barbara H. Wayne of Chevy Chase, Md.; a sister - in - law and her husband, Vickie and Danny Shelnutt of LaGrange; her mother - in - law, Myrtle Murphy of LaGrange; three nephews, Nicholas Shelnutt of LaGrange, Leonard R. Wayne of Pasadena, Calif., and Andrew J and Florence Kao Wayne of Falls Church, Va.; and one niece, Lauren Shelnutt of LaGrange. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Anne Murphy.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hillview East Cemetery with Chaplain Max Vincent officiating.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers contribution may be made to Canine Assistants, 3190 Frances Road, Alpharetta, Ga. or Shephard Spinal Center, 2020 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Ga.

Henry K. Robinson Jr.
Henry Knapper Robinson Jr., 56, of Hamilton, died Sunday at his home.
Mr. Robinson, born Sept, 28, 1946, in Phenix City, Ala., was the son of Julia Robinson of Atlanta and the late and Henry K. Robinson Sr. He was a retired electronis technician with the Civil Service at Fort Benning. He was an entrepreneur businessman, and a graduate of east Depot High School.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include four sons, Adrian OíNeal Robinson, Aaron Knapper Robinson, William Abel Robinson, all of Hamilton and Adam A Robinson of St. Simons Island; a brother, Edward Robinson of Hamilton; and five sisters, Joyce Carroll, Nina Mallard, Rachel Smith, Sandra Dickson, all of Atlanta and Gail Wells on Connecticut.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cox Funeral Home in Hamilton with Father J. Ronald Madden officiating.
Cox Funeral Home in Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Olivia W. Murphy, 85, of Hogansville, died Wednesday at Haven House Hospice in Atlanta.

Rodney Hill
Rodney Hill, 38, of 123 Royal Court died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Hill, born Nov. 4, 1964, in Troup County, was the son of Bertha Mae Hill of LaGrange. He was a member of St. James CME Church.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include his stepfather, Jerry McLaughlin; a sister, Sharon Hill; four brothers, Charlie Burden, Gary Hill, Anthony Hill and Darron Hill, all of LaGrange; four aunts, Mattie Ward of LaGrange, Pearlie Lyles of Blair, S.C., Shirley Culverson of Columbus and Carol Patillo of East Point; two uncles, Walter Burden and Donald Burden, both of LaGrange and several other relatives.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United in Christ Church at 719 Jenkins St., with Pastor James Chelcy officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of his mother, Bertha Mae Hill, at 123 Royal Court.
West Georgia Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Valeria Odell Mullins
Valeria Odell Mullins, 83, of Hampton, formerly of LaGrange, died Tuesday.
Survivors include two daughters, Emily Fowler of Loganville and Dale Willetts of Hampton; a son, Emmett Mullins of LaGrange; two sisters, Hilda Shelnutt and Betty Partridge; a brother, Douglas Partridge, all of LaGrange; 12 grandchildren; 18 great - grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday 11 a.m. at Tara Garden Chapel in Jonesboro with the Rev. Tom Shannon officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 until 8.

Walter D. Jones
Dr. Walter Dickenson Jones of LaGrange died Monday at Florence Hand Home after a brief illness.
Dr. Jones. born June 2, 1914, in Montgomery, Ala., was the son of the late Henry Clay and Mamie Dickenson Jones. He attended both private and public schools there. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Huntingdon College, a Masterís degree from Auburn University and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama. He also studied in England. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II.
He was professor of English at LaGrange College from 1962 until his retirement as head of the department in 1982. He was well known in academic circles and was a music scholar, could read in four languages, and had interests in mentoring, climatology, astronomy and gardening. He was a true renaissance man and will be missed.
Survivors include a nephew and his wife, John M. and Pat Starke of Englewood, Fla.; a niece, Mary Ann Starke of Birmingham, Ala.; and several great nieces, nephews and devoted friends.
Memorial services will be Friday, April 11, 2003, in the chapel of LaGrange College with Dr. Stuart Gulley and Dr. Walter Murphy officiating.
The family may be contacted after April 8, through Dr. and Mrs. Paul Doster at 706 - 882 - 7409.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may contribute to the Walter D. and Benjamin Jones Scholarship Fund at LaGrange College, 601 Broad Street, LaGrange, Georgia 30240.

Lillie Mae Thompson
Mrs. Lillie Mae Thompson, 85, of Carrollton, formerly of Hogansville, died Tuesday at Carrollton Manor in Carrollton.
Mrs. Thompson, born Sept. 12, 1917, in Heard County, was the daughter of the late John Henry and Dora Bass Crider. Before moving to Carrollton in 1990, she retired from Uniroyal, Inc. and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hogansville where she was active in the WMU.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters - in - law, James Kendrick and Jane Thompson of Douglasville, Clifford L. and Delaine Thompson and Johnny Thompson, all of Carrollton; a sister, Maude Brown of Newnan; ten grandchildren, Chuck Thompson, Scott Thompson, Shellie McGraw, Penny Soles, Natalie Harris, Casey Thompson, Joyce Thompson, Stewart Thompson, Robby Thompson and Andy Thompson; and 11 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Max McCord officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8.

Alma Howell
Mrs. Alma Gladys Noles Howell, 92, of LaGrange, died Saturday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Howell, born July 13, 1911, in Heard County, was the daughter of the late George and Ollie Bailey Noles. She retired from Callaway Mills where she operated winder and twister machines. After her retirement, she worked with home healthcare organizations. She was a member of Hillside Christian Church and was a loving mother, sister and friend and will be missed.
Survivors include a son, Donald Eugene Howell and Lyndi Burks of LaGrange; a sister, Metterae Hester of Marietta; two grandchildren; a great grandchild; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and son Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. R.C. Prescott officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Jacob Joel Smith
Jacob Joel Smith, 30, of LaGrange died Friday near Stanton, Texas. Mr. Smith, born Aug. 8, 1972, in Goldsboro, N.C., was the son of Bobby Smith and Carol Smith and the stepson of Diane Smith. He was a coast to coast commercial truck driver and a native of LaGrange. Though gone, his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two sons, Bobby Joel Smith and Christopher Smith; two sisters and two brothers, Sarah Smith, Casey Smith, Matthew Smith and Jerry Addison; grandparents, Stan and Mickey Headley and James Smith; his girlfriend, Melissa Dobbins; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dorothy Smith.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin Road Baptist Church.

Marshall Cardwell
Marshall (Joe) Cardwell, 72, of LaGrange, died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Cardwell, born August 11, 1930, in Troup County, was the son of the late Reuben Jesse and Mary Lacy Chatham Cardwell. He had lived here all his life and retired from the Troup County Sheriff's Department and Interface Flooring. He was currently employed at West Georgia Medical Center as a security officer. He was a member of Elm City Lodge #544, Free and Accepted Masons and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was Baptist.
Survivors include his wife Eloise Cardwell; a daughter and son - in - law, Connie and Richard Hinkle; two sons, Michael Ray Cardwell and Freddie Joe Cardwell, all of LaGrange; six grandchildren; Michelle and Shane Lanier of Newport News, Va., Tiffany Cardwell, Justin Cardwell, Joshua Cardwell, Cara Hinkle, and Michael and Renee Hinkle, all of LaGrange; two great - grandchildren, Logan Lanier and Mason Lanier, both of Newport News Va., two sister Gladys Watson and Bessie Mae Yearwood, both of LaGrange.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road with the Revs. R.C. Prescott and Chris Davis officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
