Leonard Robinson
Leonard (Doc) Robinson, 89, of Hogansville died Saturday at Avalon Health and Rehabilitation Center in Newnan.
Mr. Robinson, born February 28, 1914, in Carroll County, was the son of the late Henry and Beulah Roberts Robinson. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and lived in Hogansville most of his life. He retired from Uniroyal, Inc. after 44 years of service and was a deacon at Highland Baptist Church. He was an accomplished musician and was a church musician for more than 55 years. survivors include his wife, Maecenies Phillips Robinson of Hogansville; a daughter and son - in - law, Lenore and Robert ( Bobby) Hammett of Riverdale; a sister, Mary Robinson of Hogansville; two granddaughters, Holly and Greg Campbell of Jonesboro and Heather Hammett Polson of Riverdale; and three great - grandchildren, Sydney Polson, Katelyn Polson and Cole Campbell.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home from 6 until 9.

Pat Dennis
Mrs. Parrie (Pat) Dennis of LaGrange died Friday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6:30 until 8.

Wheeler Bryan
Wheeler Bryan, 76, of Greenville, died Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Bryan, born March 7, 1927, in Heard County was the son of the late John Lovic and Clara Heard Bryan. He was an Army veteran of World War II He received his bachelors degree from Georgia Southern College and his masters degree from Auburn University. He was a retired educator and was principal at Hogansville High School from 1965 until 1977 and retired as principal of Greenville High School in 1982. He was a member of Greenville Baptist Church, Greenville American Legion Post #186 and was a charter member of the Greenville Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Bryan; a daughter and son - in - law, Laura and Clint Wilson; two sons and daughters - in - law, B.L. and Cathy Bryan, all of Greenville and Chris and Teresa Bryan of Luthersville; a sister, Rebecca Gray of LaGrange; four grandchildren, Cameron Bryan, Ian Bryan, Jessica and Kyle Johnson and Chase Wilson; and two great - grandsons, Lance Johnson and Tyler Johnson.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Unity Baptist Church in Heard County with the Revs. Jonathan Porter and Bobby Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home.

Wilbert Thornton
Wilbert Thornton, formerly of 199 Thornton Road, died Wednesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Thornton, born April 10, 1939, in Troup County was the son of the late S.J. and Alma Thornton and was a 1958 graduate of Ethel W. Kight High School. He was the owner of Thornton and Sons Contracting Company, covering Southeast Georgia and Alabama and worked with Terry Church Upholstery, installing church furnishings, as long as his health permitted. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a founding member of the Georgia Baptist Association. He was an accomplished cook.
Survivors include a daughter, Serbrena Burts and Otis Carrecter of LaGrange; three sons, Vincent and Sandra Tucker of Mobile, Ala., Staff Sgt. Kalvix D. and Sonya Thornton of Lakenheath, England, Kelcey l and Samantha Thornton of Covington; a sister, Cora Thornton of Akron, Ohio; mother - in - law, Kathryn Owensby of Rock Mills, Ala.; grandchildren, Sierra, Vincent Jr, , Michael, Kawana, Kalya, Keioshoni, Kalvix Jr., Tyanna, Isaiah and Isaac; sisters - in - law and brothers - in - law, Anne Laura and Lorenzo Culberson of Franklin, Linda Owensby of Rock Mills, Ala., Brenda and Charles Truitt and Paul Woods, all of Franklin; special friends, Susan Dowell, Richard Lester, Katie Moody, the Rev. William Terry and Minister Jennie Laye. He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Lorene Owensby and a sister Janie.
Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Canaan Baptist Church on Highway 219 North with the Revs. A.A. Heard Jr. and William Terry officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at the home of his daughter Serbrena Burts at 617 Arthur St., and will receive friends Sunday evening at the funeral home from 7 until 8.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Hope Avery
Mrs. Hope N. Avery, 86, of Florence Hand Home, formerly of Griffin, died Thursday, October 30, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Avery, born Sept. 15, 1917, in Heard County, was the daughter of the late Ross Jackson and Annie Elizabeth Bowen Nutt. She had lived here since 1975 and retired from the Griffin - Spalding County School System where she worked in various areas of education and as secretary to the superintendent. She was a graduate of the University of New York Business School and Massey Business College in Atlanta in business and education. She was a member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Womenís Club and the Elks Club Auxiliary. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include a very special niece and her husband, Betty and Phillip Smith of LaGrange and several other nieces and nephews and many friends at Florence Hand Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kimble Avery, who was the former director of Public Works for the City of Griffin.
The Rev. Chris Davis will officiate at the private graveside services in Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 8 at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers those desiring may contribute to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Avery.

Julia Thomas
Mrs. Julia Frank Thomas, 66, formerly of LaGrange, died Monday at Sadie G. Mays Health and Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta.
Mrs. Thomas, born March 24, 1937, in Panama City, Fla., was the daughter of the late Frank Miller and Merl Ford Cofield. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include seven children, Elder Louvenia Pollard of Atlanta, Charlene Patterson and Lamar Cameron of LaGrange, Willie C. Thomas and Mary A. and Darryl Bell, all of Atlanta, Allene and Charles Huzzie of Orlando, Fla., and Kathy Lipsomb of Dothan, Ala., two brothers, Larry and Delois Cofield and Kerry and Teresa Cofield, all of LaGrange; a sister, Debra J. Reed of Columbus; sisters - in - law, Della Patterson, Hazel Patterson and Katie R. Cutwright; brothers - in - law, Billy Patterson, and Mark Patterson; 24 grandchildren, eight great - grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church at 118 Cox St., with the Rev. Charles McClain officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Russell Allen Davis
Russell Allen Davis, 25, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Emory University Hospital.
Mr. Davis, born July 16, 1978, in LaGrange, was the son of Arthur Allen and Carolyn Ann Harris Davis. He was a 1996 graduate of Troup High School where he was a state and national VICA champion in diesel equipment technology. He graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College where he was second in his class and was the owner of Diesel Truck Services. He was instrumental in the organization of the Georgia Melody Boys, a gospel music group of which he was a member of as long as his health permitted. He was a member of Long Cane Baptist Church were he was minister of music.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife of two years and five months, Meg Davis, two brothers, Tod Barnes and Shane Barnes, all of LaGrange: two sisters, Dottie Davis and Kristi Davis of Valley, Ala.; grandmother, Irene Harris of West Point; father - in - law and mother - in - law, George and Marilyn Griffith; a sister - in - law, Amy Griffith; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, all of LaGrange.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church with the Revs. Fitzgerald Brown, Lamar Womack and Wayne Greathouse officiating. Burial will be in the Long Cane Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary this evening from 6 until 9.

Vern Wegienka
Vern Wegienka, 68, of Hogansville died Wednesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Wegienka, born Nov. 28, 1934, in Ann Arbor, Mich., was the son of the late John and Audrey Tandy Wegienka. He was an Army veteran, had lived in Hogansville since 1957 and retired from Owens Corning in Fairburn after 25 years. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville where he was a deacon, choir member, former R.A. leader and longtime teacher of junior boys in Sunday school.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Montgomery Wegienka of Hogansville; three sons and daughters - in - law, Kevin and Melody Wegienka and Keith and Pam Wegienka, all of LaGrange, and Kerry and Kristy Wegienka of Hogansville; three sisters, Phyllis Showers of Stockbridge, Mich., Evelyn Elwart of Brighton, Mich., and Sharon Showers of Dansville, Mich.; five brothers, Erwin Wegienka and Jimmy Wegienka, both of East Lansing, Mich., Jerry Wegienka of Williamston, Mich., Gene Wegienka of Lansing Mich., and Ralph Wegienka of Taylor, Mich.; six grandchildren, Adam Wegienka, Zoeí Wegienka Guy Wegienka, Anna Wegienka, Logan Wegienka and Chloe Wegienka; and special friends that he regarded as his children, Donny Turner, Brenda Jones and Kim Shirah. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Wegienka.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. R.C. Prescott and Wesley Boatman officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of his son and daughter - in - law, Kevin and Melody Wegienka at 40 Jandale Drive and will receive friends this evening at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville from 6 until 8.

Ellen Aldridge
Mrs. Ellen Aldridge of Irving, Texas, died Monday, October 20, 2003.
She is survived by a loving daughter, Tammy (Daniel) Wright; two grandsons, Danny and Nicholas; four sisters, Joyce Raney, Teresa Jones, Annette Riggs and Sue Martin; three brothers, Ronnie, Mac and Curtis Aldridge and Mike Hodges; nieces, Lisa Guillory and Alisha Meza; best friends, Brenda Brown and Wilma Anderson; and a several of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was a former employee of LaGrange Daily News and West Vaco Corp. in Dallas, TX. She was a member of Regency Baptist Church in Arlington.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 24, 2003 at Restland Wildwood Chapel with burial in Restland Memorial Park.

Jim Shine
James E. (Jim) Shine, 75, of LaGrange, formerly of Albany, died Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta.
Mr. Shine, born March 12, 1928, in St Louis, Mo., was the son of the late James Andrew and Gertrude Specking Shine. He had lived here 17 years and was a retired Marine Master Sergeant after serving 22 years through the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. He also retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber in Albany after 15 years. He was a member of St. Peterís Catholic Church and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jean Groover Shine of LaGrange, Danny Shine and Betty Shine of Newnan, Mike Shine of Phoenix, Ariz., Andy and Lisa Shine of Chickamauga, Patty and Bill Ivie of Peachtree City and Nancy and Mike Pope of Cary, N.C., Holly Shine of Atlanta, Daniel Shine Jr. of Athens, Michael Shine Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz., Nolan Ivie and Jeff Ivie, both of Peachtree City, Helen Shine of Sun City, Ariz., Joanne and Jack Holland of Colquitt and Sara and BiIly Shepherd of Eatonton and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 Friday morning at St. Peterís Catholic Church with Father Selva Raj officiating. Burial will be at 3 Friday afternoon in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, Ala.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 8 at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers those desiring may contribute to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or to a favorite charity in memory of Mr. Shine.

John R. Hines Jr.
John R. Hines Jr. of Hogansville died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at Hospice LaGrange.
Mr. Hines was the son of the late John Ransom and Mary Gilbert Hines, attended school in Hogansville and was a 1952 graduate of the Darlington School and a 1956 graduate of Emory University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Social Fraternity. He served as an oficer on active duty in the Navy for three years in the late 1950ís. He was president of The Citizens Bank in Hogansville for a numbr of years and after the merger with Flag Bank, he retired in June of 2000. He was a civic and business leader, having served on a number of community boards in Troup County.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Morse Hines of Hogansville; two daughters, Peggy Hines of Charleston, S.C., and Christy Searels of Hogansville; a sister, Mary Hines Craven of Washington; and a grandson, Gavin Searels of Hogansville.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Hogansville with the Revs. Marion Shivers, Helen Henry and Lynn McWhorter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to the LaGrange College Annual Fund, 601 Broad St., LaGrange to a favorite charity in memory of Mr. Hines.
Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
