Mr. Floyd "Buck" Bowie
Mr. Floyd "Buck" Bowie, 78, of Newnan, Ga., died Friday, January 31, 2003 at Newnan Hospital East in Newnan.

Mr. Bowie was born in Coweta County January 3, 1925 to the late Walter and Amy Thomas Bowie. He was a member of the Newnan Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and a deacon.

The family was receiving friends Saturday, Feb. 1, from 7-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral was Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Dr. Harry Barow and Rev. Meg Clark officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mickey Butler, Lahman Moore, Charlie Moore, Mark Puckett, John Gray and Calvin Cannon. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Langley and Sharon Denney.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Wilson Bowie; son and daughter-in-law, Scotty and Leeda Bowie; daughter, Teresa H. Dunn; grandchildren, Scotty D. Bowie Jr. and Kimberly O. Bowie; uncle, Henry Bowie of Carrollton; nieces and nephews.

Contributions may be made to the Newnan Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund.

Mr. Jessie Pierce "J P" Knott
Mr. Jessie Pierce "J P" Knott, 72, of Newnan, Ga. died at Newnan Hospital Saturday, February 1, 2003.

Mr. Knott was born in Heard County in 1930 to William and Lula Belle Knott and was known as "J P" to all of his friends. "J P" grew up and spent most of his life in and around Newnan. He worked for Bevers Packing Company and later for Winn Dixie grocery and was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church. His favorite pastime was watching old movies. Mr. Knott is described as a quiet man and was a friend to all.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie Mae Knott; three sons, Donald Knott and wife Lynn of Moreland, Ga., Douglas Knott and wife Faye of Newnan and Larry Hinesley, also of Newnan; daughter, Patsy Haynes of Carrollton; two sisters, Margie Edwards of Clanton, Alabama and Gloria Jean Blair of Anniston, Ala.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. A funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 at Jones Funeral Home chapel with the Reverends Frank Powers and Melvin Payne officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Frances (Crye) Lambert, 85, of Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, February 2, 2003 at Georgian Place in Newnan, Ga.

She was a very active member of First United Methodist Church of Newnan. She taught school in Coweta County at Atkinson School for at least 41 years, was active in the ADK teacher sorority and was an avid bridge player. She taught Sunday School for many years and painted china in her spare time.

Surviving are daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" (Lambert) Frost of Albuquerque, NM; son, William "Butch" Lambert of Newnan, Ga.

The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3.

A funeral will be at Newnan First United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4. Rev. Larry Patton will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

Pallbearers will be Herman Fletcher, Cliff Smith, Proctor Smith, Cliff Smith Jr., Charles Mansour, Carl Williams.

Contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Mattie Pearl Beasley Mitchell, 82, of Newnan, died February 1, 2003.

She was born August 30, 1920 in Porterdale, Ga. to the late William Beasley and Mary Rose Burroughs. She was a faithful member of the Newnan Church of God in Christ until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Sam Mitchell; two daughters, Annie Rose Watkins and Janice Paticia Mitchell; step-daughter, Annie Ruth Hines; step-son, Joe Louis Mitchell; grandson, Prince White; and step-grandson, Bruce Mitchell.

Surviving are two daughters, Ruby Mitchell of Newnan and Mrs. Ethel (Michael) Askew of New Braunfels, TX; five sons, James S. (Florence), Leon (Irene) and Carlton H. Mitchell, all of Newnan, Willie C. and David S. Mitchell of Atlanta; step-daughter, Mattie L. Rosser; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one aunt, Arletha Bennett; sister-in-law and life-long best friend, Lula Bell Mitchell; a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home. Elder A. H. Andrews Jr. will officiate, assisted by Rev. Felton James. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Family friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Ella Mae Payne of East Point, Ga. died February 2, 2003.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5 at Carmichael-Hemperley's chapel. Rev. Larry Ragan officiating, burial in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Allen was born November 5, 1927 in Carroll County, Ga. to Frank and Mary Ellen (Hicks) Boyd. She was a homemaker.

A funeral will be at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. Rev. Stacey Wheaton will officiate. Pallbearers will be Johnny White, Chuck Tommy, Wayne Allen, Bobby Allen, Toby Allen and Kenney Ackrey.

Mr. John Edward Grimes
Mr. John Edward Grimes died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 at Newnan Hospital. He was born May 9, 1913 to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Henry (Lilia McWhorter) Grimes.

He joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at an early age. He graduated from The Pinson Street School. He was employed for the company formerly known as The Bibb Company, where he retired after several years of service. He was married to Rosa Mae Horsley Grimes, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include one sister; Mrs. Lucynthia Grimes Martin of Newnan; one great niece, Mr. and Mrs. David L. (Meriam) Smith of Newnan; one great nephew, Mr. & Mrs. Lonnie Martin of Grantville; four great great nephews, Jamie, Desmond, David and Rashaud; two great great nieces, Sparkle and Jasmine; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Grimes will be Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Moreland. Rev. Reginald Litman will officiate, assisted by Brother Eddie Steagall and Evangelist Inez Moreland. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Charlie Floyd Harrison died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City, Georgia.

A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, February 3, 2003, at 2 p.m. from the Harris Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. J. D. Childers officiating. Burial will be in the Floral Hill Cemetery in Palmetto, Georgia. Body will lie in state at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on today from 6 p.m. until 7p.m. at the funeral home. On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at 2068 Tommy Lee Cook Road Palmetto, Georgia at 1 p.m.

Mr. Harrison was born May 12, 1924, to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harrison (Fannie Simms). He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Maude Lee Harrison, in March 25, 1987. Mr. Harrison was a member of Harris Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four sons; Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Floyd Harrison Jr. (Lois), Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Harrison (Audrey), Mr. Bobby Lee Harrison and Mr. Michael Harrison; three daughters, Ms. Gilda Arnold, Ms. Cassandra Harrison, and Ms. Audrey Harrison; six sisters, Mrs. Rudy Toliver (Washington, D.C.), Fannie Reed (Cantonmet, Florida), Mable Smith (Dayton, Ohio), Jennie Styles (Atlanta), Mary Harrison (Atlanta), and Margaret Holmes (Decatur); one brother, Mr. John Harrison; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mrs. Mammie Ruth Wyatt.

Mrs. Mary Randolph, 68, of Newnan, GA died Friday, January 31, 2003 at Newnan Hospital.

She was a retired construction worker. The funeral service will be graveside on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, Ga., with Brother Randy Gilbert officiating.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin Randolph of Newnan; four sons, Kerry Morris of Acron, OH, Russell Morris of Newnan, Steve Randolph of Racine, OH, Randy Randolph of Columbus, OH; and two daughters, Christine Pope of Meansville, GA, and Tina Randolph of Rutland, OH.

Mr. Willie Joe "Jo-Jo" Kirkland of Newnan will be remembered at a funeral Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Sargent, Ga.

Rev. John Farmer will officiate, assisted by the Rev. F. James, Rev. J. P. Geter and Rev. J. W. Russell Jr. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwight Parks, Leon Woods, Dexter Parks, Leon Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be The Class of 1965.

Mr. Kirkland was born September 13, 1947 in Coweta County to the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. (Willie) Kirkland Sr. He died January 28, 2003.

At an early age he joined Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son, Noah Dimitrus Kirkland; granddaughter, Asia Carter; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Betty Ransby, Mr. John W. (Linda) Kirkland Jr. of Newnan and Ms. Marion Kirkland of College Park; nieces, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Debra) Snead, Ms. Sandra Barber and Ms. Kierston Kirkland; nephew, Jamez Kirkland; great-great nephew, Michael Simmons; great-great nieces, Adrienne and Jessia Sneed; devoted friend and pal, Dwight Parks; devoted friends, Bernice Hunter and Brenda V. Griffin; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Dorothy Louise Owens Peterman died Monday, January 27, 2003 at Newnan Hospital East in Newnan, Ga.

A funeral will be Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2:30 p.m. at Summerhill Baptist Church with Rev. J. T. Coleman, pastor, eulogist, assisted by Rev. Greg Turk, Rev. C. Davis, Rev. R. L. Teagle. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons, and active pallbearers members of the Class of 1964. Flower bearers will be members of the Class of 1964. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 5-7 p.m. On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at the residence at 1:30 p.m.

Mrs. Peterman was called blessed by her son, Kevin R. Peterman and many other children she nurtured through the years. She was the sixth child born to Roy and Louvonia Owens. "Dot" is how she was affectionately known.Known for her infectious laugh, she was educated in the Coweta County Public School System. After graduating from Central High School, she continued her education in data processing. She worked for William L Bonnell Company 15 years and retired after her health prevented her from working.

She gave her life to Christ at Summerhill Baptist Church and served faithfully until her death. She was blessed with the gift of song and used this gift at various times in the Senior Choir the J. T. Coleman Choir, the Old Ship of Zion and the Coweta County Caravan. She also served as director of the youth choir and frequently took them to various singing engagements throughout the area.

Surviving are son, SPC Kevin R. Peterman of Camp Casey, Korea; two sisters, Mary Owens of Newnan and Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Doris Virginia) Boston of Albany, Ga.; two brothers, Johnnie B. Owens, Mr. and Mrs. Roy (Martha) Owens Jr. of Newnan, Ga.; eight nieces, nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and play children.
