Ms. Carolyn Yvonne Schwebke, 59, of Newnan, Ga., died April 1, 2003 in Newnan.

A funeral will be held at McKoon Funeral Home Friday, April 4, at 4 p.m. Dr. Melvin Payne will officiate. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. Pallbearers will be Eric Spencer, Danny Spencer, Danny Spencer Jr., Jimmy Kee, Brad Kee and Shannon Dunn.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, April 3 from 7-9 p.m.

Ms. Schwebke was born in Aurora, IL November 29, 1943. She was previously employed at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Surviving are sons, Mark Long of Franklin, Ga., Harlan Long Jr. of Arcadia, FL, Keith Schwebke of Newnan and Kevin Schwebke of Newnan; daughters, Theresa Spencer of Newnan, Karen (Long) Gaines of Franklin, GA, and Kim (Long) Pelham of Arcadia, FL; brothers, Frank Suk of Aurora, IL, Ronnie Suk of Mobile, AL, and Richard Suk of Mobile, AL; sisters, Sharon Lopez of Streator, IL, and Germaine Mandez of Streator,IL; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Maxie Lee Bacon
Mrs. Maxie Lee Bacon, 69, of Luthersville, Ga., died March 30, 2003.

She was born January 17, 1934 in Tennessee.

A funeral will be at McKoon Funeral Home Thursday, April 3 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Luthersville, Ga.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Wednesday, April 2, from 6-8 p.m.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Bacon; sons, Charles R. Bacon of Umittla, Fla.; daughter, Brenda K. (Bacon) Patterson of Luthersville, Ga.; sister, Joyce Galloway of Lithia Springs, Ga.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Raymond Jackson Bivins
Mr. Raymond Jackson Bivins, 84, of Senoia, Ga., died March 31, 2003, at his residence.

He was born November 2, 1918 in Villa Rica, Ga., son of the late Eddie and Alice Morris Bivins.

Visitation was Tuesday, April 1, from 7-9 p.m.

A funeral will be at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Wednesday, April 2, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Dennis Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Bivins was retired as a painter for the U.S. Government. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was an Army Veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David and Butch Bivins.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Eberhart Bivins; sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Virginia Bivins, Fayetteville, Allen and Janice Bivins of Senoia, Mike and Annette Bivins of Senoia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois and Milton Gatlin of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Yvonne Bowers, Atlanta, 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Higgins Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan, Ga.

Ms. Patricia Ann Buchanan
Ms. Patricia Ann Buchanan, 55, of Old Newnan Road, Carrollton, Ga., died Monday, March 31, 2003 in a local hospital.

She was born April 27, 1947 in Carroll County to the late Rev. Henry W. Buchanan and Thelma Watts Buchanan. She was employed by the Carroll County Board of Education as a driver's aid, and for many years was associated with Beauty Village as a beautician and had later worked at Billy Bob's until her health failed. She was a long-time member of the Eastside Baptist Church.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Renee Pritchett of Carrollton; grandson, Jacob Matthew Pritchett; mother, Thelma Buchanan; sisters, Debbie Cook and Sandra Dixson; brothers, Terry Buchanan, Randy Buchanan and Mark Buchanan, all of Carrollton; nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Thursday, April 3 at 2 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Brown officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m. and from 5-8 p.m.

Mr. Rufus Gay
Mr. Rufus Gay died in Chicago, Illinois.

Local survivors in Newnan are Mr. James Gay and Mrs. Lauranette Arnold; and Mrs. Juanita Dorsey of Stone Mountain, Ga.

A memorial service will be held in Chicago Saturday, April 5, 2003.

Mrs. Charlie Rose Dawson Jones died in Los Angeles, California.

She was the mother of Harriette Tinch Seay of Los Angeles; sister of Mrs. Katie R. Gay and Mrs. Jessie L. Smith of Newnan, Ga.

Ms. Gracie Mae Turner, 62, of Palmetto, Ga., died March 28, 2003.

A funeral will be Wednesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Alvaton, Ga. The Rev. S. T. Curtis officiating, assisted by the Rev. Steve Dennis and other ministers. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Ms. Turner was born January 19, 1941 in Senoia, Ga., Coweta County, to the late Ms. Georgia Willis Hayes and the late Mr. Luther Mitchell. She joined Shiloh Baptist Church at a young age.

Surviving are special friend, Mr. Willie B. Johnson of Palmetto; step-mother, Ms. Sarah Mitchell of LaGrange; sisters, Ms. Helen Hand of Senoia, Ms. Patricia Hodo of Newnan and Ms. Brenda Mitchell of LaGrange; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Betty) Dennis of Senoia and Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Brenda) Mitchell of Newnan; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ms. Eva Mae Folds
Ms. Eva Mae Folds, 88, of Hunters Way, Carrollton, Ga., formerly of Arnco and Grantville, in Coweta County, died Sunday, March 30, 2003.

She was born June 12, 1914 in Carroll County to the late Peter Freeman Folds and Bessie Norris Folds. She was a retired spinner, having worked at Arnco Mills and Grantville Mills, and was a member of Arnco Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Folds White; and two brothers, Enoch and Wade Folds.

Surviving are sister, Hazel Folds Lanxton of Carrollton; eight nephews; and a number of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be at graveside Tuesday, April 1 at 2 p.m. at Lowell Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Larry Insko officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews and great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Vista Care Hospice, 1270 Winchester Parkway, Suite 100, Smyrna, GA 30080.

Mrs. June Machen
June Galphin Machen, 74, of Sharpsburg, Ga., died Sunday, March 30, 2003 in Sharpsburg.

A funeral will be at First Baptist Church of Newnan Wednesday, April 2, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Don Helms and Dr. Gene Tyre will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Tuesday, April 1 from 6-8 p.m.

Mrs. Machen was born in Greenville, S. C., May 1, 1928, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge McSwain Galphin. At age 12 she lost her only sibling, her 16-year-old brother, Eldridge. It was through this tragedy that she put her faith in Christ and was baptized along with her father.

While attending Furman University she met Bob Machen, a student from Clemson University. They dated for six months before Bob gave her her first peck on the cheek. A few months later they had a beautiful backyard garden wedding on August 15, 1947.

Mrs. Machen worked as an accountant for a local business while her husband completed Clemson on the GI bill as a World War II veteran. They started their family with the birth of Eldridge on November 14, 1950. And the children kept coming with Bob Jr. on August 23, 1953, Carolyn August 23, 1955, and Beth October 28, 1958.

After several relocations to North Carolina, Florida and South Carolina, the Machens finally settled in Newnan, Ga. January 1967. The family, being led by Bob and June's example, were active in the community as members of First Baptist Newnan. In recent years Bob and June have continued to serve as members of Sonrise Baptist. They have also been active with the Gideons International since 1981.

All of June and Bob's children are following their example of putting their trust in Christ and are passing their faith on to the next generation. June and Bob's life verse has been Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Surviving are her husband, Bob Machen; sons, Eldridge "Eli" Machen of Ashville, N.C., and Bob Machen Jr. of Newnan; daughters, Carolyn Jackson of Newnan and Beth Carroll and husband Tim of Newnan; grandchildren, Will Jackson, Eric Marsh, Lisa Marsh, Eldridge G. Machen II, Tolla Jackson, Neena Carroll, Anna Marie Carroll and Katelyn Carroll.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests that flowers not be sent and contributions made to the Son Rise Baptist Church Building Fund, 6 Shenandoah Dr., Newnan, Ga. 30265 or to the Gideons.

Mr. Ray Lamar Meek
Mr. Ray Lamar Meek, 36, of Newnan died March 29, 2003, at Newnan Hospital.

He was born in Fulton County, Ga. April 13, 1966 and was a steel worker.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Meek; and a brother, Fred Vernon Meek.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Peggy S. Meek; sons, Kevin Crowe and Cody Sewell; daughters, Kimberly Crowe and Haley Meek; brother, Bobby Meek; sisters, Connie Dixon and Brenda Wood; fiancÚ, Sheri Hunter; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Wednesday, April 2, at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn, Ga.

Visitation is Tuesday evening, April 1, from 5-9 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel.

Mrs. Dalah W. Pearson
Mrs. Dalah Woodruff Pearson, 96, of Luthersville, Ga., died Saturday, March 29, 2003 at her home.

A funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at graveside in New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery in Meriwether County. Elder Chris Hill will officiate.

Mrs. Pearson was born May 16, 1906 in Meriwether County, daughter of the late Braxton Bragg Woodruff and the late Onie Hamby Woodruff. She was a lifelong resident of Meriwether County and was the wife of the late William Emory Pearson.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and James Martin of Newnan, Doris and Robert Dodds of Luthersville, and Marian and J. C. Lovett of Fayetteville; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Sue Pearson of McDonough; sister, Mrs. Ollie Funderburk of Warm Springs; 14 grandchildren; 6 granddaughters-in-law; four grandsons-in-law; 23 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

The family gratefully declines the gift of flowers or food.

Dr. William M. Suttles
Dr. William Maurelle Suttles of East Point, Ga. died March 31, 2003.

Dr. Suttles was the pastor of Haralson Baptist Church for 49 years. He also served as pastor at Providence Baptist Church in Coweta County and at Luthersville Baptist Church.

He held degrees from Georgia State University and from Yale University. Dr. Suttles was executive vice president and provost of Georgia State University for many years.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at Owl Rock Methodist Church, 5291 Campbellton Roads Southwest, Atlanta. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church.

Mrs. Edna Elizabeth Fisher
Mrs. Edna Elizabeth Fisher, 62, of Fayetteville, Ga., died at her home Thursday, May 29, 2003 after an extended illness.

Mrs. Fisher was born in Liverpool, England, and grew up listening to the Beatles performing in local spots of their community. After moving to America, she met her future husband, Earl, while working at Delta Airlines, later becoming employed by and retiring from Worldspan. She was a loving wife, mother and friend.

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, her first wish was to see all her friends. They came from all over the world and across many oceans to bring joy and cheer to her last days. Mrs. Fisher spent her life doing for others. She would crochet and do needle work for friends and neighbors and give them presents of all kinds. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband of 18 years, Mr. Earl Fisher of Fayetteville, Ga.; two sons, Andrew Atkins of Carlsbad, California and Stephen Robert Atkins and wife Angela of Fayetteville, Ga.; daughter, Deborah Poole and husband James of Prattville, Ala.; brother, Alfred Thompson of Bollington, England; 12 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, many friends.

A memorial service is planned and will be announced at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society and the March of Dimes.

Mrs. Sylvia Dillard of Newnan, Ga., formerly of College Park, Ga., died May 28, 2003.

Mrs. Dillard was born May 15, 1943 in Fulton County, Ga.

She is survived by her husband, Charles T. Dillard; daughter and son-in-law, Christie and Matt Nerbonne, College Park; brother, William Harold Freeman of Fayetteville; sisters, Charlotte Campbell of Morrow, Ga., and Janie Singleton of Rex, Ga.

A funeral will be Friday, May 30 at Carmichael-Hemperley Chapel, 11 a.m. The Rev. Lee Ayers officiating. Burial in Camp Memorial Park.

Mrs. Myna Josephine Frost Green
Mrs. Myna Josephine Frost Green, 88, of Franklin, Ga., died Thursday, May 29, 2003 after several years of declining health.

Mrs. Green was born in Randolph County, Alabama, August 27, 1914 to the late Jeddie and Effie Yates Frost. She was married to her late husband Woodrow Jackson for 67 years. Many students will remember the great love and understanding they received under her direction as she taught them. Children in Coweta, Cobb and Carroll County will be forever greatful for her great devotion to the art of teaching and children. Mrs. Green was a beloved member of the Ephesus Baptist Church. She served in many capacities as a member of both the Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the Order of Eastern Star where she had been a member since 1947.

A funeral will be Friday, May 30 at 3 p.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church with the Reverends Gerald Rogers and Fred Cooke officiating. Burial will be in the Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Green is survived by brother, Kenneth Frost of Florida; several adoring nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by husband Woodrow Jackson Green and one brother, Ezra Frost.

A funeral will be Saturday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at the Springfield Baptist Church in Hogansville, Ga. Rev. Joseph McGuire will officiate and burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Alice Southard White
Mrs. Alice Southard White, 78, of Huntsville, Ala., died May 26, 2003 at the home of her daughter, Meredith White Wilson in Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. White was born in Birmingham, Ala., daughter of Walter Edward Southard and Anna Rogers Southard. She was a graduate of Woodlawn High School and Birmingham Southern College.

She was married for 55 years to the late John White, director of Army Missle Command Procurement Directorate. She worked briefly as a secretary for a professor at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., while her husband attended law school there. Afterwards, she was a life-long homemaker and devoted mother and wife.

Surviving are her only child, Meredith White Wilson of Newnan, Ga.; sister, Anna Southard Baker of Birmingham, Ala.; brother, Walter Edward Southard of Holt, Ala.; two grandchildren, John Austin Wilson and Amanda Wilson of Newnan, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at her home in Huntsville 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31.

Gifts in her memory may be made to the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, P.O. Box 443, Huntsville, Ala. 35804 or to a favorite charity.
