Mr. William A. Cantrell
Mr. William A. (Bill) Cantrell, 66, of Grantville, Ga. died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at Newnan Hospital East.

A funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 29 at St. George Catholic Church in Newnan. Father Austin Fogarty will officiate and burial will be in the Grantville Cemetery.

Mr. Cantrell was born August 20, 1936 in Troup County, son of the late Sam Newman Cantrell and the late Mary Stone Cantrell. He served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army and had lived in Grantville for 40 years. He was the founder and former owner of Mr. C's Mini Mart in Grantville and was serving as a member of the Grantville City Council at the time of his death. A member of St. George Catholic Church in Newnan, Mr. Cantrell was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Union Masonic Lodge #28 and the LaGrange Shrine Club.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. JoAnne Cantrell of Grantville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nawana Winkles of Wedowee, Ala., and Felicia and J. C. Doler of Grantville; two sons and daughters-in-law, William David and Vivian Cantrell of Whittier, Calif., and Newman Randall and Sharon Cantrell of Franklin; sister, Mrs. Mary Edith Watkins of Newnan; two brothers, N. L. Cantrell of Beaufort, N.C. and James O'Neal Cantrell of Savannah, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lizzie S. Causey
Mrs. Lizzie Mae Swift Causey, 83 of Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan, Ga. died Sunday, May 27, 2003 in a Newnan hospital.

Mrs. Causey was born May 27, 1919 in Polk County, daughter of the late Harry Lee and Ellen Garrett Swift. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Causey was a member of First Baptist Church in Grantville. She was the widow of Marvin Causey.

A daughter, Melba Jo Causey, and a son, Douglas M. Causey, preceded her in death.

A funeral was May 27 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Freeman-Harris Funeral Home in Rockmart, Ga. with Preacher Stan Rogers and Preacher Billy Swift officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery between Rome and Rockmart.

Pallbearers were Randall Portwood, Roy Lee Crumley, Matt Gaddy, Mitchell Bowen, Charles Brooks, Bryan Bowen and Gerald Whitman.

Survivors include a son, Larry S. Causey of Grantville; sister, Mrs. Lillian S. Crumbley of Aragon; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Nellis Schwartz
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Nellis Schwartz, 82, of Peachtree City, Ga., died May 19, 2003.

She was born January 5, 1921 in Pennsylvania.

"Nana Nellis" is survived by daughter Rosemary Glennie of Fayetteville; granddaughter Alison (Kevin) Kelley of Newnan; grandson Brian Glennie of Locust Grove; great-granddaughter Kylie Glennie of Locust Grove; great-grandsons Mitchell Kelley of Newnan, Austin Glennie of Locust Grove, Ethan Kelley of Newnan; sisters Helen Schweiger of Barton, New York, Catherine Hunter of Sayre, PA; brother, Isaac Johnson of Towanda, PA; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be June 8 at 3:30 p.m. at Fayetteville United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Ellison officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Southwest Christian Hospice, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, GA 30291.

Mrs. Clovys Camp Wood, 73, of Newnan died Sunday, May 25, 2003 in Newnan.

Mrs. Wood was born Oct. 12, 1929 in Meriwether County, daughter of the late James D. and Hattie Teate Camp. She was the widow of James E. Wood Jr.

Mrs. Wood was retired, having worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell.

The family was receiving friends May 28, from 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. A funeral will be Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. David Arrington officiating. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Judy Wood of Newnan; grandchildren, Brandi Cook of Newnan, Kaila Wood of Forest Park, Kirstie Lester of Newnan, Christopher Morgan of Stockbridge; and great-grandchildren, William Holloway, Savannah Cook, both of Newnan.

Mrs. Gayle Adkins, 59, of Sharpsburg died Monday, May 26, 2003 at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City, Ala.

Mrs. Adkins was born March 11, 1944 in West Virginia.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home on Thursday, May 29, from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be Friday, May 30, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Patton officiating.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband, Dick Adkins; daughters, Jeri Adkins Drake of Fayetteville, Angelia Dawn Adkins Cox of Fairburn; son, Robert Sterling of Riverdale; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Marian J. Baldwin
Mrs. Marian J. Baldwin, 93, of Newnan died Sunday morning, May 25, 2003 at her home.

Mrs. Baldwin was a former resident of Chicago. She moved to Newnan from Naples, Fla. seven years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert J. Baldwin.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 29, from 6-9 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 30, at 4 p.m. at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ed McMinn officiating.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Ed Gorvett of Newnan; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Ann Baldwin of Darien, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mr. C. Cooper Bell III
Mr. C. Cooper Bell III, 54, died recently after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Bell received his undergraduate degree from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. and his master of business administration degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. He worked for Noland Company in their advertising division for 24 years.

In 1996, Mr. Bell launched Noland's first corporate web site, subequently serving as the company's webmaster.

More recently, he played a key role in starting Noland's Internet web site for employees. Mr. Bell also coordinated all photography for Noland's annual reports, which have won numerous national awards for excellence.

His father, C. Cooper Bell Jr., preceded him in death.

The family will be receiving friends today, May 28, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Laskin Road Chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Home in Virginia Beach, Va. A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at the Grantville City Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Patton officiating.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Ellen Banks Bell; brother, Donald Bell; and sisters, Janie Powell, Mary Ruffin Ardell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Way of Virginia or the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Katherine Ford
Mrs. Katherine Ford, 69, of Newnan died Sunday, May 25, 2003 in Atlanta.

Mrs. Ford was born April 22, 1934 in Newnan. She was retired as a seamstress from Playtex.

Mrs. Ford was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Ann Ford; a brother, Clifford Gann; and a sister, Mary Buchanan.

A funeral was held Tuesday, May 27, in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. J. C. Cook officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Hunter, Eddie Jones, Jeff Jones, Will Jones, Josh Buchanan and Mark Crozier.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon Ford of Newnan; son, Mickey Ford of Newnan; daughter, Roxanne Ford Flinn of Newnan; brothers, Freddie Gann of Newnan, Shadwick Gann of Columbus; sisters, Thelma Jones of Newnan, Gail Irvin of Sargent; grandchildren, Jennifer and Stephen Rice, Kristie and Mark Crozier, all of Whitesburg; and great-grandchild, Raven Rice of Whitesburg.

Mr. Patric P. Huston
Mr. Patric Paul Huston, 77, of Newnan, died Monday, May 26, 2003 in Newnan.

Mr. Huston was born May 4, 1926 in Little Rock, Ark., son of the late Claude Joe Huston and Maude Ellen Fransworth Huston. His wife, Helen Inez Huston, preceded him in death.

Mr. Huston entered the armed services in 1944 during World War II. Under the command of Gen. George Patton, he served as a combat infantryman in North Africa.

Mr. Huston was in combat command B of the 10th Armored Division during the Battle of the Bulge. In April 1945 he was wounded at the Rhine River. While taking troops under cover of darkness, he was wounded by machine gun fire.

With the outbreak of the Korean War, Mr. Huston returned to military service. He also served in combat during the Vietnam War with the 1st Cavalry Division.

During each war, Mr. Huston was award a Purple Heart for wounds received during combat. He also was decorated with the Bronze Star for heroism in the face of the enemy on the Rhine River.

Mr. Huston was a member of Disabled American Veterans.

The family will receive friends today, May 28, from 6-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. A funeral will be held Thursday, May 29, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. John Webber officiating.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Mary Huston of Whitesburg, David and Nanette Hayes of Dallas; grandchildren, Natasha Vickery, Crystal Huston, Christopher Huston, Patric Huston, Amber Huston, Heavenly Angel Huston, Ashleigh Hayes, Stephanie Hayes, Ricky Hayes, Angie H. Moncrief; nieces, Susan Huston of Dallas, Texas, Jeanie Volpert of Benton, Ark.; and nephew, Robert Huston of Fort Smith, Ark.

Mr. Jack Lindy Lane, 75, of Atlanta died Thursday, May 22, 2003.

Mr. Lane attended Woodward Academy. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Lane retired after a 46-year career with Atlanta Linen.

A funeral was held Sunday, May 25, in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn with Chaplain Ken Taylor officiating. Interment followed at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Fairburn.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lanelle Lane of Atlanta; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Teresa Lane of Sugar Hill; daughter and son-in-law, Judi and Fred Cassidy of Abbeville, Ala.; grandsons, Mark and Sheila Watson of Seattle, Wash., Matthew and Amanda Cassidy of Abbeville, Benjamin Cassidy of Abbeville, Todd Flowers of Sugar Hill; granddaughters, Kimberly Lane of Sugar Hill, Amy Lane Cassidy of Abbeville, Kim and Chris Donohoe of Lawrenceville; brother-in-law, Clark Plymal of Warner Robins; sisters-in-law, Hazel and Joe Keyes of Galveston, Texas, Mildred Plymal of Fayetteville, Louise Miller of Bethlehem; aunt, Azalee Port of Palmetto; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brown was born Dec. 21, 1935 to Varnie Cox Johnson and the late Stephen Lee Brown. He was the owner of Brown Scrap Metal.

A Protestant, he served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 28, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Sons Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Frank McCook officiating. Interment will follow at the Adamson Family Cemetery in Heard County.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7-9 p.m.
