Mrs. Rita K. Campese
Mrs. Rita K. Campese, 40, of Newnan, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Portebridge Hospice in Conyers.

She was a homemaker and beloved mother.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Louie Campese of Newnan and Mr. Tim Kimbler of Peachtree City; a daughter, Ms. Vickie Kimbler of Monroe; a father, Mr. Frank McMichael of Newnan; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary B. Glanton Graves
Mrs. Mary B. Glanton Graves, of 24 Tuxedo Avenue, died Monday, June 9, 2003.

A funeral service will be Monday, June 16, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, with Reverend J.W. Gibbons officiating, assisted by Evangelist Susie Hudson, Evangelist Inez Moreland and Reverend Felton James. Interment will be in Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia.

Pallbearers will be The Deacon Board of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Mrs. Graves, affectionately called "Mae B," was the eighth child of nine children. Born to the late George W. Glanton and Maxie Cook Glanton on June 23, 1916, she received her education in the Coweta County Public School System.

She joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church at an early age. She left Newnan in 1942. In 1947 she married the late James T. Graves of New Port News, Virginia, where she joined The Rome Emanuel Baptist Church.

After years of working as an employee to Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Survett, she retired and returned to Newnan in 1995, where she restored her membership at Mt. Sinai. She served in the Combined Choir and on the Mother Board.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Moses Stallings of Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Mrs. Sara Brezeal, Mrs. Alicia Powell and Mr. Robert (Rhonda) Stallings of Philadelphia; one grand daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sheryl Stallings of Middleton, Delaware; one niece raised as her daughter, Ms. Valesta Hurd of Los Angeles; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Diane Faust; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ceola Willoughby of Newnan; 14 great grandchildren; a nephew, Mr. Daniel (Pearl) Willoughby of Newnan; nieces, Mrs. Emma Jean McKeever, Mrs. Sara Thomas of Newnan and Mrs. Olive M. Cook of Monrovia, CA.; a devoted great grand niece, Ms. Ella M. Ellis Hearn; a special cousin, Mrs. Odessa Ragland; a special friend, Mrs. Leola Turner; a host of great-great nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Alice Irene Adams Rooker
Mrs. Alice Irene Adams Rooker, 81, formerly of Sargent, died Friday, June 13, 2003 in Marietta.

A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, with Reverend Ed Wyatt officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Born July 19, 1921 in Carrollton, Mrs. Rooker was the daughter of the late Robert Jonah Rooker and the late Rosey Mae Phillips Rooker.

Survivors include two brothers, Robert Rooker of Newnan, and Autry Rooker of Marietta; a sister, Vera Ward of Grantville; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Alan P. Dent
Mr. Alan P. Dent, 71, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Newnan, Ga., died following a brief illness Wednesday, June 11, 2003.

He was born April 27, 1932 to the late Harry H. and Mary N. Dent. He was a graduate of Worchester Academy and served in the United States Air Force where he trained as a pilot. Mr. Dent was a retired captain with Eastern Airlines and remained an avid aviator.

Mr. Dent is survived by his daughter, Susan Graham and son-in-law Hal Graham of Newnan; son, Scott P. Dent and two grandchildren.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Mr. Charlie W. Garrett
Mr. Charlie W. Garrett, 59, of LaGrange, Ga., died Friday, June 13, 2003 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Rev. A. Hansel Parmer officiating.

Born October 5, 1943, in Troup County, Mr. Garrett was the son of the late William Olin Garrett and the late Claudie Wynn Garrett. He was a lifelong resident of Troup County, was a member of the Baptist Church, and was a retired welder.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Ford of LaGrange, Mrs. Faye Rushton of Hogansville, and Mrs. Cathryn Busbee of Virginia Beach, Va.; three brothers, Robert Garrett of Hogansville, Coleman Garrett of Newnan and William O. (Pete) Garrett Jr. of LaGrange; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Infant Aubrey Daniel Mattingly
Aubrey Daniel Mattingly, infant daughter of Nicholas Mattingly and Donna Smith, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003.

A funeral was Friday, June 13 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Rev. Don Helms officiating. Burial was at Hope Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Surviving in addition to the parents are brother, Jordan Smith; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smith, all of Sharpsburg, Ga.

Mrs. Lois G. Pitts
Mrs. Lois Goodman Pitts, 92, widow of Julius Mood Pitts, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 in Dunwoody, Ga.

Born June 27, 1910 in High Point, N.C., she was a daughter of the late William Dorsey and Lalah Craver Goodman. She was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sumter, and a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Pitts was an avid Bridge and piano player, and an active volunteer in her retirement community.

Surviving are daughters, Shirley Pitts Betchman and husband, William "Billy" Pinckney, and Sally Pitts Taylor of Newnan, Ga.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Pitts Monroe Harris.

A graveside service was held privately at 2 p.m. Friday in Sumter Cemetery, Sumter, South Carolina.

Mr. Roy Strozier
Mr. Roy Strozier, 32, of Senoia, Ga., died June 11, 2003 at Newnan Hospital.

A funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at White Oak Grove Baptist Church, Gordon Road, Senoia, Ga. The Rev. K. G. Bailey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rock Mount Baptist Church Cemetery. Remains will be placed in state at 1:30 p.m. at the church until the hour of the service.

Visitation is Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Roy Miles Strozier was born Oct. 4, 1970 to Idella Strozier. He joined the White Oak Grove Baptst Church at an early age.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Idella Storzier; four brothers (Twin Ray), Anthery, Willie and Johnny; two sisters, Roderick (Marie) Florence and Elizabeth Strozier; three nieces, Tiffany Strozier, Crystal and Brittany Florence and a special friend Lashawn (Meme) Stanley and a host of other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence, 1413 Johnson Road, Senoia, Ga., at 1:30 p.m.

LTC Harold Towery
LTC William Harold Towery Sr., U.S. Air Force Retired, 88, of Austin, Texas, died Sunday, June 8, 2002 in Austin.

Col. Towery was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Blairsville, son of the late Herbert M. and Goney Bell Hood Towery. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years and fought during World War II and the Korean War.

He also served in the Chinese Air Force as a member of the American Volunteer Group also known as the ``Flying Tigers.'' During his service in the Armed Forces, he was awarded numerous medals and received his final Bronze Star in 1997.

After retirement, he went on to work for the City of Austin in the traffic and transportation department for 17 years. He had lived in Austin since 1958.

Col. Towery was a longtime member and elder of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Austin. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Michael Towery.

Services were held Wednesday, June 11, in the chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Austin with the Rev. Mark McNeese officiating. Interment followed at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Austin.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Hazel Parker Towery; sons, William H. Towery Jr. and Jack Towery; daughter, Ava Wilburn; sisters, Charlotte Moss, Juanita Holmes, both of Marietta; grandsons, William O. Towery, Parker R. Towery, Scott Towery and Todd Long; granddaughters, Patricia McKeever and J.J. Wilburn; five great- grandchildren; and niece, Menlia Trammell of Luthersville.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Lion's Foundation.

Mrs. Eva Cook Winkler, 91, of Luthersville, Ga., died Friday, June 13, 2003 at Alvista Healthcare Center in Greenville.

A funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 15 at graveside in Luthersville Cemetery with the Rev. Winston Skinner officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs. Winkler was born October 20, 1911 in Carroll County. She was a retired seamstress and member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Bobby Gordon of Ranger; son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Pauline Foster of Luthersville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Emmett Bell, 92, formerly of Newnan, Ga., died Thursday at Earlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn.

He is the father of Mr. and Mrs. James (Elizabeth Bell) Moss, grandfather of Bradford and Stephanie, great-grandfather of Levie and Esther Moss of 8 Johnson Avenue, Newnan, Ga.

Mr. Ike Evans, 57, of Jennings Homes, Hogansville, Ga., died Monday, June 9, 2003.

A funeral will be Saturday, June 14 at 2 p.m. at the Thrash and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Hogansville. The Rev. Bradell Martin will officiate and burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Woods, 312 Pine Street, Hogansville, Ga.

Mr. Willis Hollis
Mr. Willis Hollis, 76, of Atlanta, Ga., died June 7, 2003 at Atlanta Hospice.

A funeral was Wednesday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at Hines Memorial Chapel. Burial in Westview Cemetery. The Rev. Willie Clyde officiated.

Mr. Hollis lived in Rome, Ga. for the last 40 years where he was truly treasured, admired and loved by his many friends at the Rome Housing Authority High Rise. One caller who worked at a nearby convenience store remembered him coming by and sitting every day for three years and sometimes cooking and bringing food. Family said he was a man who knew the Lord and was blessed because of it. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mr. Luther Hollis and Mrs. Annie Ward Hollis; daughter, Earnestine Hollis Clyde; son, June B. Hollis; brothers, Willie Frank Hollis and Luther Hollis Jr.

Surviving are three grandchildren, Angela Clyde, Syretta Clyde and Terrance Clyde of Atlanta; sisters, Ms. Emma B. Hollis of Wilmington, Delaware and Mrs. Edith Hollis Mitchell of Washington, D. C.; son-in-law, Pastor Willie Clyde of Atlanta; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Donnell Rosser
Mr. Donnell Rosser, of Tuxedo Avenue, Newnan, Ga., died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale, Ga.

A funeral will be Saturday, June 14 at 11 a.m. at Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel in Newnan. The Rev. W. H. Tucker will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.

Donnell Rosser was born January 19, 1946 to the late Mr. Hubert Bealsley and Mrs. Emma Rosser. At an early age he joined the Mount Gillead United Methodist Church in Grantville, Ga. Donnell served faithfully in the United States Navy. His humble and kind spirit will be missed by everyone.

Surviving are daughters, Tonya Clark (Troy), Tina Goode, Tamara Murray, all of Norfolk, Virginia, and Tamika Rosser of Newnan; son, Derrick Rosser of Newnan; brothers, Willie (Bill) Rosser of Valdosta, Ga., Sammie Rosser of Newnan, and Earnest Beasley of Gantville; sisters, Sarah Brewer of Newnan, Joy Smith of Grantville and Shirley Gay (Johnny) of Moreland, Ga.; aunt, Lula Bell Mitchell; six grandchildren, LaQuisha Goode, Kiana Goode, Shaquell Goode, Aaliyah Elliot, William Elliot, and Demonte Dunlap, all of Norfolk, Virginia; special friends, Danielrene Petty, Hazel Strozier, Rita Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Myrtice Kite Adams
Mrs. Myrtice Kite Adams of Newnan, Ga., died June 8, 2003.

She is the daughter of the late John and Ida Mallory Kite. She was born in Newnan. Following her marriage to the late Joseph Seabron Adams, she lived in the Atlanta area until returning to Newnan in 1968. Her daughter, Myrtice Kay Adams, also preceded her in death.

She served as president and secretary of East Point Woman's Club, secretary of Atlanta Woman's Missionary Union, member of Audubon Forest Garden Club, and Sunday school leader in Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church and Beecher Hills Baptist Church. She was an accomplished pianist in church music, an avid china painter, and a devoted homemaker.

A funeral will be at First Baptist Church of Newnan where she was a member at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11 with Dr. O. Eugene Tyre officiating. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family was receiving friends Tuesday, June 10 from 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

Surviving are Joe Ann Adams (Mrs. E. Victor) Hanson, Charles Harold Adams (Jeanene); grandchildren, Victoria Hanson (Mrs. D. Bryant) Hunter, Nan Hanson (Mrs. William T.) Mr. G. L. Fomby, 77, of Hogansville, Ga., died Monday, June 9, 2003 at his home.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Milton Hall will officiate, and burial will be in Corinth Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Born September 25, 1925 in Heard County, Mr. Fomby was the son of the late Robert Lee and Bessie Dingler Fomby. He lived in Hogansville most of his life, was retired from Uniroyal Inc. and was the former owner and operator of Five Points Grocery in Heard County. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War Two.

Surviving are daughter, Mrs. Gayla Cleveland of Mountvile; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Helen Fomby of Hogansville and Greg Fomby of Douglasville; two sisters, Mrs. Earline Waller of Hogansville and Mrs. Mozelle Thompson of West Point; brother, Frank Fromby of Hogansville; grandchild, Cassie Hudgins of LaGrange; two great-grandchildren, Zach Whittington and Chase Whittington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Robinson Fomby and a son, Bob Fomby.

Rev. Walter F. Baker
The Rev. Walter F. Baker of Riverdale, Ga. died June 7, 2003.

Mr. Baker was retired from Nalley Chevrolet, having been in car sales and management for more than 40 years. He was the former pastor of several churches including Southside Baptist Church in College Park, Community Baptist Church in Newnan, Line Creek Baptist Church in Peachtree City and also the former director of music as Southside Baptist Church.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lindsey Baker.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Jean Smith Baker of Riverdale; sons, Rev. and Mrs. Darris and Dotti Baker, Calhoun, Mr. and Mrs. Gary and Charlotte Baker of Newnan; sister, Mrs. Hazel Conway of Senoia; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett and Betty Baker of Senoia, Mr. and Mrs. William and Bert Baker of Senoia; grandchildren, Chris Franklin, Amanda Franklin, Lauren Baker, Erin Baker, Lori Koller, Billy Holbrook; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Tuesday, June 10 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. The Rev. S. R. Jones and Rev. Darris Baker officiating. Burial at Forest Lawn.
