Mr. Ed Fields
Mr. Ed Fields, 84, of Newnan, Ga., died Monday, August 4, 2003 at his residence.

He was born April 29, 1919, in Carroll County, Ga. He retired from Brown Steel and was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his bountiful crop with family and friends. He was a very active member of Oak Lawn Baptist Church.

Pallbearers are Billy Burgess, Sammy Avery, George Fields, Sam Young, Donnie Slaton Sr., Joe Evans, Elliott Proctor, Danny Brooks and Jammie Arrington.

Surviving are wife, Grace Fields; daughter, Kay and her husband Bill Jensen of Newnan; son, Jim Fields of Newnan; son-in-law, Billy Burgess of Newnan; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family was receiving friends at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6.

A funeral is at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 with Rev. David Arrington and Rev. Udell Addison officiating. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Wanda Lou Marie Nichols Harcrow
Mrs. Wanda Lou Marie Nichols Harcrow, 68, of Franklin, Ga., died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 at the Emory University Hospital after several months of declining health.

Mrs. Harcrow was born on Sept. 15, 1934 in Knox County, Tennessee, to the late Otho Carl Nichols and Wilma Grace Smelser Nichols. She was a member of the Heaven Bound Church of God in Centralhatchee, Ga. Many will remember "Miss Wanda" for her cheery disposition as she ministered to many through her nursing. She was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed.

A funeral will be Friday, Aug. 8 in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home with the Reverends Quinten Duncan and Doug Bingham officiating. Burial will be in Centralhatchee Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the funeral home Thursday, Aug. 7 from 6-8 p.m.

Surviving are her husband, Riley Harcrow of Franklin, Ga.; four sons, Merrel Harcrow of Roopville, Ga., Doyle Harcrow of Salt Lake City, Utah, Neal Harcrow of Franklin, Ga., and Kim Harcrow of LaGrange, Ga.; sister, Wilma Sue Feltman of Opelika, Ala.; three brothers, Bernard Nichols of California, Neal Nichols of Carrollton, Ala., and Joe Nichols of Knoxville, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Harcrow was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Harcrow.

Tanya M. Boyd
Tanya M. Boyd of Atlanta will be remembered at a funeral Thursday, Aug. 8, 2003 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul C.M.E. Church in the Lone Oak Community.

Rev. T. D. Brown, pastor, will officiate.

Surviving are her husband, John Boyd; special uncle and aunt, Marvin and Betty Beasley; father and mother-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul C.M.E. Church Building Fund in memory of Tanya M. Boyd.

The cortege will depart from the funeral home.

Mr. Robert L. Allen of Sharpsburg, formerly of Burlington, N.C., died July 31, 2003.

He was born March 2, 1933 in Burlington, N.C.

Surviving are his wife, Bette Allen; daughter, Debra Bond of Lawrenceville, Ga.; sons, Robert Allen, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Michael Allen of Sharpsburg, Ga., Danny Allen of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Kayla Allen and Jake Bond.

Mrs. Irene M. Cochran
Mrs. Irene M. Cochran of College Park, Ga., died Aug. 2, 2003.

She was born May 30, 1906 in Coweta County.

Mrs. Cochran is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Lee of College Park, Jerry and Pat Hearn, College Park, Lorene and Dal Parrott, Fayetteville, Joann and Leslie Neville, Forest Park; sisters, Ollie Simmons, Jimmie Perkna, Union City, Sarah Brock, College Park; grandchildren, Randy Hearn, Lynn and Tom Campbell, Kim and Kelly Hearn; great-grandchildren, Josh, Amanda and Jillian Hearn, nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Minister Wilbur Bass and Min. Henry Cobb officiating. Burial in Holly Hill.

The family will receive friends Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tomasita Maxwell of East Point, Ga., died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003.

Mrs. Maxwell was born Dec. 22, 1925 in Orocovis, Puerto Rico. She was preceded in death by daughter, Gloria Swinney.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth E. Maxwell of East Point, Ga.; daughters, Linda Ray and Mirna Audet of Riverdale, Ga., Theresa Dybowski and melody Eubanks of Fayetteville, Ga.; son, Kenneth Steve Maxwell of East Point, Ga.; sisters, Josefina Ortiz, New Jersey, Esperanza Marreo and Virgen Colon of Puerto Rico; brother, Johnny Colon of Puerto Rico; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Saint Matthew Catholic Church with Rev. James Caffery, M.S. officiating. Burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery north of Newnan.

The family was receiving friends Monday, Aug. 4 from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. Ralph Moon Jr.
Mr. Ralph Moon Jr., 54, of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, Ga. The Rev. Gene Craft will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Born Nov. 23, 1948 in Atlanta, Mr. Moon had lived in Hogansville since 1994. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a member of the Baptist church and was employed as a carpenter. For many years he served as a volunteer coach for youth football and baseball in DeKalb County.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Christina Moon and Jose Cobos of Pensacola, Fla. and Erin Hamrick of McDonough; mother, Movene Sheets Moon of Alpharetta; and sister, Linda Newsom, also of Alpharetta.

Mr. Lonnie Morris
Mr. Lonnie Morris, 87, of Newnan, Ga. died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 at his residence in Newnan, Ga.

Mr. Morris served in the U.S. Army and was a retired textile worker.

The family was receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at McKoon Funeral Home. A funeral was 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, at the funeral home. Rev. J. C. Cook and Rev. Terry Calhoun officiated. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park north of Newnan. Pallbearers were John Coshitzke, Steve Morris, Michael East, David Garner, Chris Harper and Clay Harper.

Surviving are his wife, Annie Mae Thornton Morris; three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Don (Josephine) Wilson of Clarksville, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Elaine) Harper and Mr. and Mrs. Buddy (Hazel) Dingler, of Newnan; three sisters, Lillar Skinner of Anniston, Ala., Beulah Griffies and Myrtle Winkles, both of Newnan; one brother, Toi Morris of Fairburn, Ga.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Johnnie Abercrombie Newby
Mrs. Johnnie Abercrombie Newby of Sharpsburg, Ga., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003.

She was born May 19, 1929, in Coweta County to the late John W. and Annie Coffey Abercrombie. Mrs. Newby was a member of White Oak Associate Reform Presbyterian Church and a retired employee of Coca-Cola Enterprises.

Surviving are husband, James E. Newby; sons, John R. Stone (Dorothy) of Greenville, Ga., and Stephen P. Stone of Newnan; daughters, Deborah Newby Halicks (Richard) of Peachtree City and Diane Newby Moore (Ronald) of Perry; sisters, Eunice A. Stowell (Francis), and Tina Burnham, both of Newnan; sister-in-law, JoAnn Newby Whitlock (Van) of Sharpsburg; brother-in-law, Horace Abner of Carrollton; grandchildren, Will and Sarah Halicks, and Lauren, Lindsay and Landon Moore; nieces and nephews.

The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home Monday, Aug. 4 from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral will be at McKoon Funeral Home chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5. Burial at White Oak A.R.P. Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Shoger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Southwest Christian Hospice, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, Ga. 30291.

Mrs. Winnie Ozell Owsley
Mrs. Winnie Ozell Owsley, 80, of Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003 at Newnan Hospital.

She was born in Carroll County in 1924 to Benjamin and Cora Mae Thornton. She married Arthur Lewis Owsley in 1943 and together they lived most of their life in Newnan.

Although Mrs. Owsley worked for many of the local textile mills, she devoted most of her time to caring for her family. Her hobbies were gardening and growing flowers. She was a member of Cove Baptist Church in Woodbury, Ga.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Mr. Arthur Lewis Owsley Sr.

Surviving are three sons, Arthur Lewis Owsley Jr. of Panama City, Fla., Lewis Laverne Owsley of Panama City, Fla., and Michael Howard Owsley of Newnan; daughter, Deborah Presnell and husband Wayne of Newnan; sister, Estelle Brown of Warm Springs, Ga., four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

The family was receiving friends at Jones Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4.

The funeral will be at Jones Funeral Home chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 with the Rev. Melvin Payne officiating. Burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Agnes Leftwich Pearce
Mrs. Mary Agnes Leftwich Pearce, 86, of Franklin, Ga., died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at Franklin Health Care Center after several months of declining health.

A funeral was Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Franklin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Royeese Stowe officiating. Music was provided by Nancy Heard and Leesa Cothran. Pallbearers were Jud Pearce, Rick Lowe, Michael Lowe, Jim Kalb, Keith Nowicki and Eric Bailey. Burial was in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery in Marietta, Ga.

Mrs. Pearce was born Sept. 24, 1916 in Henry County, Ga. to the late Oliver Leftwich and Willie Lyons Leftwich. She was a member of the Roanoke Church of God in Roanoke, Alabama and an affiliate member of the Franklin United Methodist Church in Franklin, Ga. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Jeanie Pearce of Franklin, Ga.; two sons-in-law, Alvie Brinkley of Dallas, Ga. and Howard Lowe of Hogansville, Ga.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Willie Leftwich; two daughters, Martha Alice Brinkley, and Mary Frances Lowe; two sisters, four brothers.

Mr. Donald Chappell
Mr. Donald Chappell, 60, of Senoia died Aug. 2, 2003, at Newnan Hospital East.

Mr. Chappell was born to Robert and Lillian Chappell. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and loved the outdoors. He was retired from the Atlanta Journal.

Mr. Chappell was preceded in death by his father, and by his son, Richard Chappell.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Fowler officiating. The remains will lie in state from 10 a.m. until funeral time on Tuesday. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 6-9 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel.

Pallbearers will be E.W. Hannah, Pete Wilson, John Wilson, Michael Grizzle, Richard Chappell and Nickie Crook.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Chappell of Senoia; mother Lillian Chappell of Senoia; daughters Donna Grizzle of Fayetteville and Wanda Chappell of Senoia; brothers Paul Chappell of Senoia, and Ronnie Chappell of Tifton; step-children Jennifer Whitley of Luthersville, Christy Crook and Nickie Crook both of Newnan; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Mrs. Katie Smith, 81, of Atlanta, formerly of Newnan, died Aug. 1, 2003, at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Infant Aron Austin West died Aug. 3, 2003 at Columbus Medical Center. He was born June 27, 2003 to David and Joni Helton West of Newnan.

Funeral services will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel. Family will receive friends Monday from 2 p.m. until funeral time. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, David and Joni Helton West; brother Stephen West; grandparents Wayne and Sylvia West, Kay McCoy, and Leon and Regina Walton all of Newnan; great-grandparents Shurrell and Marjorie West, Tommy and June Denney, and Frank and Lois McCoy; and aunts and uncles.

Mr. Donald "Steve" Herndon
Mr. Donald "Steve" Herndon died Thursday, July 31, 2003.

Herndon worked as a maintenance supervisor at Harmony Falls Properties for eight years, and before that was the son in Herndon and Sons Heating and Air, which served the Cobb County area.

Herndon was a loving father, a caring husband, a thoughtful brother and a devoted friend.

He lived in Franklin.

Herndon was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Herndon, and a brother, James Randall Herndon.

Survivors include wife, Sandy Lane Herndon; two daughters, Olivia Herndon and Christian Hope Herndon; one stepdaughter, Tabitha Marrero of Franklin; one stepson, Elija Marrero of Immokalee, Fla.; his father, James Herndon; two sisters, Brenda Foyle of Greenville, Ga. and Becky Minter of Powder Springs, Ga.; and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ruby Donald Rowe
Mrs. Ruby Donald Rowe, 70, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Haven House Hospice in Atlanta.

Mrs. Rowe was born in Coweta County on June 23, 1933, to the late Mr. and Mrs. James Grady Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Rowe, and a daughter, Shelie Rowe.

Mrs. Rowe lived in Grantville and was a homemaker. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers and art. She was an artist.

Graveside services will be today at 3 p.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery. Family received friends on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis Cole Martin of Florida, Charles Christopher Rowe of Grantville, and David McClure Rowe of Grantville; one sister, Margaret Dingler of Arnco, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Toby Martin, Tanner Martin, Victoria Turner, Joey Turner, Destiny Dotson, Heavenly Williamson and Kristin Rowe; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a companion, Joseph Billy Wilson of Whitesburg.
