Mr. Eugene Chavez, 56, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Funeral services for Mr. Chavez will be held Monday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. at McKoon Funeral Home Chapel.

Survivors include his wife, Patti Chavez of Las Vegas; sons, Richard and Kristy Chavez of Newnan and Michael and Lynn Chavez of Tallahassee, Fla.; step-daughter, Leah Hutzler of California; and grandchildren, Andrea and Cameron Chavez of Newnan, AnnaLisa, Michael II, and Amelia Chavez of Tallahassee, Fla. and Michael and Jacob Hutzler of California.

Donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Mrs. Mattie C. Holloway
Mrs. Mattie C. Holloway, 73, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at Newnan Hospital West.

Mrs. Holloway was born Feb. 11, 1930, in Carroll County, Ga., to the late Walter and Minnie Knott Cook. She was retired from Bibb Manufacturing Co. and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Holloway was a faithful worker for others, a lover of gospel music and a dedicated member of Arnco Baptist Church. Well-known for her wry and self-deprecating sense of humor, she was affectionately known to her family and friends as "the crazy lady."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Mable Cook.

Funeral services for Mrs. Holloway will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 at McKoon Funeral Home. The Rev. J.C. Cook and Rev. C.A. Jernigan will officiate. Internment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, with Melvin Holloway, Forrest Byrom, Troy Cook, Gary Wright, Tim Holtzclaw and Eddie Barnes serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at McKoon Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Henry Donald Holloway; one brother, Eugene Cook and his wife, Mary; one niece, Shirley Carnes and her husband, Danny; and one nephew, Troy Cook and his wife, Deborah, all of Whitesburg. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, JoAnn Cook.

Mr. Clarence W. (Murph) Murphy
Mr. Clarence W. (Murph) Murphy of Sharpsburg died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003.

Mr. Murphy was a WWII United States Army Veteran and had been very active for the last four years with the Palmetto Senior Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Murphy will be held Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. The Rev. Edie Beaujon will officiate. Mr. Ollie Pitts
Mr. Ollie Pitts of LaGrange died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Pitts was born Feb. 8, 1910, in Chambers County, Ala., to the late Henry and Elizabeth Calhoun Pitts.

Mr. Pitts was retired from the Hillside Plant of Callaway Mills Co. and was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church in LaGrange.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Hixie Pitts.

Funeral services for Mr. Pitts will be today at 2 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Chapel in LaGrange. The family received friends Friday, Oct. 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Vonciel and Harold Barnett of Moreland; one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Eleanor Pitts of LaGrange; four grandchildren, Tom Barnett of Moreland, Sylvia Barnett Yeager of Newnan, Allen Barnett of Moreland and Hershell Davis of LaGrange; four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Errin Barnett of Moreland and Lesley and Marvin Yeager; and one great-great-grandchild, MacKenzie Barnett of Moreland.

Mr. Bobby 'Bob' Eugene Perry
Mr. Bobby 'Bob' Eugene Perry, owner of Bob Perry's Egg and Produce Co., a member of the Raymond Baptist Church, a supplier of produce and eggs for the Coweta County School System, formerly of Smyrna and Gainesville, and a veteran of the Korean Conflict, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003.

Mr. Perry was born Jan. 6, 1932, in Hall County, Ga.

Survivors include his children, Corey and Jennifer Wells of Sharpsburg, Mike and Kathy Lynn Wells of Sharpsburg, Tina Golden of Maine, and Kathy Sue Lebelle of Maine; a brother, William 'Billy' Perry of Panama City; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bill Corley of Douglasville; a niece, Rebecca Dee Savage of Douglasville; and grandchildren, great grandchildren, other nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society of Portsbridge Hospice, Fayetteville.

As a special request, the family asks those attending visitation and/or funeral service, please dress casually -- no ties. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel.

Mrs. Norene Thompson Plant
Mrs. Norene Thompson Plant, 87, of Fayetteville and a former resident of Grantville, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Fayette Community Hospital in Fayetteville.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Bobby Boswell will officiate and interment will be in the Grantville Cemetery.

Mrs. Plant was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Heard County, daughter of the late Lonnie and Rosie Parham Thompson. Before making her home in Fayetteville three years ago, she lived in Coweta County most of her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantville. She was the wife of the late Willie T. Plant.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Nichols Holland and her husband, Warren, of Fayetteville; a son, Bill Plant and his wife, Shirley, of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, Harvey Thompson of West Point; five grandchildren, Dan Nichols, Felicia Nichols, Kevin Nichols, Becky Hausman, and Robert Townsend; and five great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great grandson, William Nichols.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children in memory of William Nichols, 1835 Savoy Dr., Suite 316, Atlanta, Ga., 30341.

Mr. Ollie Pitts, of LaGrange, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Newnan Hospital.

He was born Feb. 8, 1910, in Chambers County, Ala., and was the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth Calhoun Pitts.

Mr. Robert Gordon Sewell
Mr. Robert Gordon Sewell, 66, of Newnan, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Newnan Hospital West.

He was born in Newnan, Nov. 6, 1936, to the late Joseph William and Grace Orphelia Daugherty Sewell. Bob retired as a printer, having been employed by James River Corporation. His love of woodworking provided him with an avocation during his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Jackson) Sewell of Newnan; a daughter, Jan Sewell of Smyrna; a son, Steve Sewell of Newnan; a sister, Elleen Jackson of Union City; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2003. The funeral service will be at McKoon Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, with Reverend Floyd Tenney officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

Miss Sarah Evelyn Bonner
Homegoing services for Miss Sarah Evelyn Bonner will be held on Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the Temple of God on Ishman Ballard Road in Newnan, with her body placed instate at the church at 12:30 p.m. Elder Paul Grant will officiate, assisted by Elder Leroy James. Interment will be at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church cemetery.

Evelyn briefly attended Northside Elementary School. She became a part of Alton and Margaret Kirby's family at age 19, attending The Temple of God Church, always loving to sing and taking part in church services. She attended Rutledge Rehabilitation Center for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Johnnie and Herbert Bonner; and a sister, Wilma Johnson.

Survivors include brothers, Willie Walker Bonner, Willie Pierce (Ruth) Bonner, Sanford (Gussie) Bonner, Fred (Carrie) Bonner; sisters, Margaret (Alton) Kirby, Emma (Jimmy) Dixon, Mae Almond; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are asked to assemble on the day of the service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Kirby Sr., 2355 Smokey Road in Newnan, at 1 p.m.

Mr. William F. Konrad
Mr. William Frank Konrad, 87, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003 at Wesley Woods Retirement Home in Newnan.

Born in New York City, he grew up in Yorkville, the German section of New York City. He told his children about sledding at Gracie Mansion with his German sled that he had for many years. He graduated from Bryant High School with the highest IQ in his class.

Bill Konrad was a good athlete when he was young. He played catcher on several all-star teams and was scouts by major league scouts.

He worked for EDO Corporation for 48 years, rising from tool room to Vice-President of Manufacturing for EDO in College Point, N.Y. It was at EDO during World War II that he met a pretty, red-headed switchboard operator named Kathleen Siegrest. They married and just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

During Mr. Konrad's tenure at EDO, he met many early aviators, astronauts and even Jacques Cousteau.

Bill and Kathleen Konrad resided in Glen Head, Long Island with their three children -- William, Susan and Peter. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and served as President of the Congregation.

They moved to Palmyra, Va. for retirement and built their dream home on Lake Monticello. They were members of South Plains Presbyterian Church, Keswick, Va.

Because of ill health, Mr. Konrad moved to Peachtree City to be near his daughter, Susan, and family for the last four years. He was a huge Atlanta Braves fan and loved to go to the games. They have resided at Wesley Woods Retirement Home for the last year.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; son, Peter Konrad and wife, Patricia, of Richmond, Va.; daughter, Susan and her husband, Gary, of Peachtree City; and four grandchildren -- Peter, A.J., Kyle and Molly. He is predeceased by his son, William John.

He is also survived by his sister, Louise Konrad Costello of Fullerton, Calif. and Henry Konrad of Florida.

The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. J. Kim Steinhorst on Friday, Oct. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at South Plains Presbyterian Church, 410 Black Cat Road, Keswick, Va. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to South Plains Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 277, Keswick, VA 22947-0277.

Mr. James M. McGouirk
Mr. James Michael McGouirk, 40, of Grantville died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 at his home.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23 in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Interment will be at Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church Cemtery in Coweta County.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 tonight, Oct. 22.

Mr. McGouirk was born Sept. 29, 1963 in Newnan, son of the late Robert and Louise Parrott McGouirk. He was a lifelong resident opf Coweta County and was a member of First Baptist Church of Grantville.

Survivors include a half-sister, Marsha Smith of Newnan; and uncle, Ed Parrott of Newnan; and a number of dear friends, including Ann and Tony Tucker, LeAnn Tucker, Kyle Tucker and Greg Townsend, all of Grantville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby McGouirk.

Mr. Herbert M. Bryson
Mr. Herbert M. Bryson of Hogansville of Newnan died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

He was born in Pine Belt, Ala. on July 10, 1918. Mr. Bryson, a veteran of the U. S. Navy, was the owner of Bryson Planing MIll in Raymond and later a salesman for George Washington Life Insurance Company.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newnan, the Moose Club, Masonic Lodge of Turin and the Elks Club.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with the Rev. Gary Parrish officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, Oct. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be George Goff, Todd Goff, Tom Porter, Tim Lowery and Gary Wall.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Ruth Bryson of Newnan; sons and daughter-in-law, Ronald L. and Pat Bryson of Newnan, Herbert M. Bryson Jr. of Union City, William L. Bryson of Newnan; sisters, Miriam McDaniel of Snellville, Mary Frances Bowen of Pelham, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Henry Kalwaic
Mr. Henry Kalwaic, 85, of Newnan died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 at Newnan Hospital East.

He was born March 4, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Kalwaic was a retired U.S. Air Force Reserve Colonel and a dentist with the Veterans Administration before retiring. He was a master gardener who volunteered with the Coweta County Extension Service.

Mr. Kalwaic was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a choir member and sang in the Men's Ensemble. He was an active member of the White Oak Golf Association.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ann Kalwaic; daughter, Karen Kalwaic of Las Cruces, N.M.; and brother, Charles Kalwaic of Coconut Creek, Fla.

Arrangements will be handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, Ga. where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The funeral service will be at McKoon Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund.

Mr. James Earnest "Stick" Biles
Mr. James Earnest "Stick" Biles, age 76, of Brooks died Oct. 18, 2003, at Christian Ministries Hospice in Riverdale.

Mr. Biles was born in Pike County, the son of the late Judge Allen Biles, Sr. and the late Leila Seigler Biles. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a retired truck driver working for over 50 years and was formerly employed with Fairburn Ready Mix. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a brother Judge Allen "Son" Biles, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Jo Jackson Biles; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Alyson Biles of Senoia; daughters and son-in-law, Lynn West of Fayetteville, and Bonnie and Melton Helton of Carrollton; grandchildren, Brandy Ward and Steven West both of Fayetteville, and Hannah Helton of Carrollton; great grandchildren Morgan Graham and Trent West both of Fayetteville; sister Inez Bates and brother Leon "Bud" Biles, all of Brooks; and son-in-law Preston West of Fayetteville.

Funeral services for Mr. James Earnest "Stick" Biles will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Fairview Baptist Church in Brooks. Rev. Charles Johnson and Rev. James B. Dykes will officiate. Mr. Biles will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Friends may visit the family from 6-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 at the funeral home.

Mr. Jesse William Corker, Sr.
Mr. Jesse William Corker, Sr., 85, of Glen Allen, VA, died Oct. 19, 2003 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born April 16, 1918 in Beaverdam, VA, son of Henry Thomas Corker and the former Mamie Clyde Harper. He grew up in Beaverdam and graduated from Beaverdam High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed more than 30 years at E.R. Carpenter Co. in Richmond, VA, retiring June 13, 1980 as a supervisor. A member of Glen Allen Baptist Church, he served as a deacon. He was married April 27, 1940 to Myrtle Gibson Corker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Stuart Wayne Corker; two brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Myrtle Gibson Corker; daughter, Phyllis Joan Corker Palmore and husband Thomas Allen Palmore of Kenbridge, VA; sons, Jesse W. Corker, Jr. and wife Sandra Jean of Apple Grove, VA, and Thomas C. Corker and wife Ellen of Newnan, GA; grandchildren, Wendelyn Palmore Berry of Kenbridge, VA, Kevin M. Corker and wife Nikki of Richmond, VA, and Jonathan D. Palmore and wife Jolene of Richmond, VA; great-grandchildren, J. W. Berry Jr. and Frances Joan Berry, of Kenbridge, VA.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at noon in the chapel of Bliley Funeral Home, 8510 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, VA, with Rev. Roger M. Collier officiating, assisted by Rev. Charles R. Smith. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, VA.

Visitation is Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
