Ms. Lisa Darlene Harris
Ms. Lisa Darlene Harris, 43, of Ellenwood, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Henry General Hospital.

Ms. Harris was born July 12, 1961, in Fulton County to Bennie Harris and Jeanette McEachern. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Calvin McEachern and Harold Quigley, and sister-in-law Sandra Harris.

Ms. Harris was a collector who loved car racing, fishing and the outdoors.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel. The Rev. Terry Calhoun will officiate, and internment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the chapel.

Survivors include parents Terry and Jeannette Quigley; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick and Jennifer Harris and Terry and Karen Quigley; sisters, Donna Cook and Lynn Quigley; grandmothers, Rosia McEachern and Clastele Quigley; one aunt, Mary Lynn Quigley; and many friends and co-workers.

Mrs. Yvonne (Hawthorne) McCollough
Mrs. Yvonne (Hawthorne) McCullough, 83, of Dublin, Ga. formerly of Newnan, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at Dublinair in Dublin.

Mrs. McCullough had lived in Dublin for eight years. Born on June 16, 1920, in Monaghan, Emyvale County, Ireland, the daughter of the late John and Jane (Gibson) Hawthorne. She had been a nurse prior to making her home in the United States.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles and a son John. She had operated the Tastee Freeze restaurant in Newnan, which was a popular gathering spot for young people in the 1960s. In addition, she was a faithful and active member of the Newnan Presbyterian Church and a supporter of The Open Door School, which is now known as NCARC/Rutledge.

The family will receive friends today between 3 and 5 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of the funeral home. Dr. Harry Barrow will officiate.

Survivors include one daughter Helen Anne McCollough of Dublin; one son, David McCullough and his wife Sandra of Dublin; and a grandson, Alexander McCollough of Nashville, Tenn.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. McCollough's memory to NCARC/Rutledge, 61 Hospital Rd., Newnan, Ga. 30263.

Mrs. Mittie Mossie Wimbish Mitchell
Mrs. Mittie Mossie Wimbish Mitchell passed on November 12, 2003 in Brooklyn, New York.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 5710 Mt. Carmel Road, Gay, Ga., with remains placed in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service. The Rev. E. A. Stephens, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Amos Alexander, the Rev. Charles Parks. Burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers nephews and cousins.

Mossie was born on May 18, 1925, the eldest of seven children to the union of Clarence and Sophie Lee (Bowles) Wimbish. Two children were born to Clarence and Opal Lee (Mitchell) Wimbish. Mossie received her formal education at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church School. Mossie was married to L. M. Mitchell (Sugarfoot). Two sons were born to this union. Robert L. Mitchell and Melvin Mitchell both preceded her in death, and her siblings, Willie Henry Wimbish, Christine Henry Wimbish Alexander, Roger Maynard, and Eloise (Maynard) Kelly.

Brooklyn New York, a town she loved filled with close friendships and many relatives, is where she resided for over 50 years. Mossie worked as a seamstress in the Garment District of Blake Clothing until her retirement.

Surviving are daughter-in-law, Stephanie Mitchell; grandsons, Robert Mitchell Jr. of New York, Jerome Maynard of Senoia, Ga.; six great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; brother, Hymond (Eula) Wimbish Sr. of Gay, Ga.; sisters, Mimmie (Wimbish) Maynard, and Mildred (Wimbish) Ferrell, both of Gay, Ga.; uncle, Phillip Bowles of Homestead, Florida; three aunts, Nettie Parks of Gay, Ga., Katie Sue Wimbish of Senoia, Ga., Mable Bowles of Luthersville, Ga.; special niece, Barbara Wimbish Porter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.

Mrs. Mary Annette Beck
Mrs. Mary Annette Beck, 67, of Fayetteville, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003 at Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Beck.

She was born January 18, 1936, daughter of the late Charlie Pope Milton and the late Callie Edwards Milton. Mrs. Beck graduated in 1954 from Robert E. Lee High School in Thomaston, Ga., and in 1957 she graduated from Piedmont School of Nursing. In 1966 she served in the medical corps of the United States Air Force for two years. She later received her Master's Degree from San Jose University in California in 1982, and in 1998 she retired from Kaiser-Permanente as a nurse practitioner.

Surviving are her son, John Elliott and his wife Melissa of Marietta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Ann Elliott and Preston Elliott, also of Marietta; two sisters, Rachael and her husband Gordon Mohler of Newnan, Ga. and Brenda Soehn of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Gene and his wife Frances Milton of Austell, Ga., and Charlie F. and his wife Ruth Milton of Sharpsburg, Ga.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, Ga., where a memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 with Rev. Don Helms officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a hospice of your choice.

Mr. Dewey Albert Corley
Mr. Dewey Albert Corley, 85, of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003 at Portsbridge Hospice in Conyers, Ga.

He was born in Gwinnett County, Ga. Oct. 17, 1918, son of the late Albert W. Corley and the late Synthia Jones Corley. Mr. Corley was a retired electrician and was well-known as a juke box repairman. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II.

He is survived by his wife Louise Corley of Newnan; daughter, Cynthia and her husband Fredie Jones of Suwanee, Ga.; son, Stan and his wife Carol Corley of Stockbridge, Ga.; sister, Wesley Taylor of Columbus, Ga; two grandchildren, Shannon Burgess of Newnan and Shane Corley also of Newnan; two great-grandchildren, Cody Burgess and Chenoa Corley.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, Ga., where the family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 14 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Wilcox County, Ga., Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Searcy Jackson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Marvin Starr
Mr. Marvin Starr, 83, of Asheville, N.C., formerly of Atlanta, Ga., died Nov. 11, 2003.

Mr. Starr was born in Newnan, Ga. May 23, 1920. He attended Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia and graduated in 1942. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. A lifelong member of The Elks Club, Mr. Starr's career was spent in the State of Georgia, first with vocational rehabilitation and later with the State Department of Labor. After an early retirement he enjoyed consulting work with Atlanta area judges and finally a thriving career as a roving clock vendor.

Surviving are daughters, Kay Rachelson, Atlanta, Stephanie Rucker, Orlando, Fla., Elizabeth Cottrell, Taihape, New Zealand; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Charlie Mottola, Newnan; grandchildren, Daniel and Georgia Cottrell, Lauren and Kristin Rucker.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel. Dr. John Page will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Directors, 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy., 404-255-8511.

Mr. Thomas Giles McCullough Jr.
Mr. Thomas Giles McCullough Jr., 88, of Newnan, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Newnan Hospital West.

He was born Sept. 4, 1915, in Newnan, son of the late Thomas Giles McCullough Sr. and the late Lee (Shell) McCullough. After serving in the Army Air Corps 45 Air Service during World War II, he was employed by Armour Corporation as a sales representative. Mr. McCullough was a member of Freeman Memorial Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. McCullough is his wife of 56 years, Virginia (Leonard) McCullough. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, including Buddy Watts, Joyce Amis, Pete McCullough, Beck Tolbert, Larry Leonard and Caroll Womack; and sister-in-law, Dodie Leonard.

Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. The Rev. Jim Hearn officiated. Internment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. The family was receiving friends the day of the service from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Helen Sorrell Pike
Mrs. Helen Sorrell Pike, 81, of Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center. She was born June 18, 1922 in Montgomery, AL to the late Frank and Molly Ross Sorrell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irwin Pike.

The funeral will be Thursday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at graveside in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Gary Parrish officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Mrs. Willie Mae Barnes
Mrs. Willie Mae Barnes, 90, of Newnan and a former resident of Grantville, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center, Newnan, Ga.

The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in the Lone Oak Community of Meriwether County. The Rev. Richard Campbell will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday.Mrs. Barnes was born April 4, 1913 in Meriwether County, daughter of the late Albert and Elvira Bowen Burdette. Before making her home in Newnan, in 1997, she lived in Grantville for 55 years, was a member of Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, and was the wife of the late James Haygood Barnes. Following her retirement from Playtex International, she provided private-duty home nursing care for several years.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jimmy Quick of Greenville; a son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Ryvonne Barnes of Newnan; one brother, Bill Burdette of Red Top Mountain, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Chris Stamps of Madras, Casey Stamps, Lone Oak, and Tommy Harris of Albany.

Mr. Jerry W. McWhorter, 59, of Hogansville, Ga., died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Pastor Stanley Rogers and Pastor Randy Dunlap will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Born June 29, 1944 in Coweta County, Mr. McWhorter was the son of the late Robert Lee McWhorter and the late Lorene Ivey McWhorter. He lived in Hogansville most of his life, was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Hogansville. He was a retired printing press operator.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Alicia Jackson of Grantville and Tim and Vicki Jackson of Ephesus; three sisters and their husbands, Peggy Pike Harris of Hogansville, Libby and Mike Freeman of Franklin, and Colleen and Stanley Rogers of Grantville; one brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Jean McWhorter of Hogansville; five grandchildren; nine nephews and six nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Williamson and Geneva Littleton, and a brother, Ray McWhorter.

Mr. Clyde Harold Elrod
Mr. Clyde Harold Elrod, 89, of Moreland, died Sunday morning, Nov. 9, 2003. Mr. Elrod was born in Gainesville, Ga., to Jesse Clyde and Margie Elrod, and he later served in the Navy during WWII.

After settling in Newnan, he worked for the William L. Bonnell Company in several management capacities, retiring as the Manager of Personnel in 1979. He is a long-time member of Moreland United Methodist Church.

Mr. Elrod is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mrs. SHirley Elrod; four sons, Clyde Elrod Jr., Danny Elrod and his wife Paula, Bruce Elrod and his wife Ann, and Rex Elrod and his wife Paula; a daughter, Patricia Elrod; a brother, Bob Elrod; a sister, Callie Sowell; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Elrod's four sons and two grandsons will serve as his pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10, 2003. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Jones Funeral Home chapel. Reverends Floyd Tenney and Richard Huycke will officiate. Interment will follow at Southview Cemetery in Moreland.

Mrs. Ruby Griffin
Mrs. Ruby Griffin, 93, of Newnan, formerly of Augusta, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003. She was a much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theron Griffin. She is remembered by all as a thoughtful and gracious Southern lady. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Augusta.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Hatcher Funeral Home in Augusta. Reverend Holcombe will officiate. The family will receive friends at Hatcher Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta. Mrs. Elise Marie Breeden Cooper, 77, formerly of Clinton, Tenn., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003.

Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Mary Ann Breeden, husband John Eugene Cooper, brothers Paul C. Clifford and Carter Breeden, and sisters Martha Beck and Charlene Collins.

Funeral services for Mr. Cooper will be held today at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. The Rev. Verlon Lankford will officiate. Mr. Eugene Evans, 73, of Palmetto died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003.

Mr. Evans was retired from the Georgia Baptist Children's Home and was also a member and deacon of Friendship Baptist Church in Palmetto, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Jennie Sue Evans and one brother William Evans.

Funeral services for Mr. Evans will be held today in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn at 3 p.m. The Rev. Horace Stewart, Rev. Reid Buckelew, Mr. Ricky Evans and Rev. Randy Gravitt will officiate. Internment will be held at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Frank M. McWaters Jr.
Mr. Frank M. McWaters Jr., 66, of Port Orange, Fla., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003 at National Health Care Center of Daytona Beach after a year-long battle with complications from a stroke.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 at graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with the Rev. Max McCord officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Saturday.

Born July 29, 1937 in Heard County, Mr. McWaters was the son of the late Frank and Martha Thomas McWaters. He moved from Newnan to Daytona Beach in 1998, where he served as plant manager for First Coast Anodizing, until his retirement in October 2002. He was employed by Ethyl Corp. for 28 years and moved with his family from Newnan to Carthage, Tenn. in 1969 with the opening of the plant and remained there until 1984. Mr. McWaters was a 1955 graduate of Heard County High School.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Becky Hooten McWaters of Port Orange; one daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Anthony Morris of Carthage, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Penny McWaters of Hermitage, Tenn.; one sister, Jean Bonner of Eufaula, Ala.; and six grandchildren, Nicholas Morris, Meaghan Morris, Josh McWaters, MacKenzie McWaters, Shawna McWaters and Michael McWaters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael McWaters.

Mrs. Gladys M. Parr
Mrs. Gladys M. Parr, 77, born August 19, 1926, died at home surrounded by her family on Nov. 6, 2003. After a courageous effort, she died peacefully and with dignity.

Gladys was born to Johannes & Clara Larson in Virginia, Minnesota. She graduated from Roosevelt High School class of 1944 and St. Luke School of Nursing in Duluth, Minnesota in 1948. She married George W. Parr on December 27, 1948. They resided in Duluth, Parkville and Virginia, Minnesota until they moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1960.

Mrs. Parr was employed by the Virginia Municipal Hopsital then South Fulton Hospital and later as a private duty nurse. She was an active member of the Sharpsburg Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Sharpsburg, Ga. The memorial service will be held at the Sharpsburg Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Sunday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m.

She is survived by her son, David W. Parr of Newnan; daughters, Kathy (Joel) Reets of Sharpsburg and Susan (Sylvain) Levesque of Montreal. Her twin sister, Gertrude (Bill) Kortes of Fairburn, and sisters Anna Marie Sullivan of Virginia, MN and Clara "Joey" (Alan) Braaten of Aurora, MN; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Jack and Leslie Larson.

Mrs. Myrtice Ann Washington, 61, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Newnan Hospital West.

The funeral will be Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. at Powell Chapel United Methodist Church, Newnan, with the body placed in state at the church at 1 p.m. The Rev. J. P. Geter, pastor, officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Washington was born January 4, 1942 in Newnan, Ga. to the late Benjamin and Lonette McKeever. She joined Powell Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age. She was united in holy matrimony to Leroy Washington. Three children were born to this union. Preceding her in death were son Reginald Washington Sr.; sister, Lorena Geter; brothers, Edward McKeever, Ellis McKeever. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to all.

Surviving are children, Angela Rhodes (Norris) and Terry Washington (Elaina); three grandchildren, Kayla Rhodes, Reginald Washington Jr., Taniya Washington; five sisters, Joenel Domineck, Vera Neal, Cartha Parrott, Willie Potts; brothers, John Alvin McKeever Sr.; brothers-in-law, Willie Washington (Diane), James Washington (Emma); aunt, Cora Herring; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Georgia Dickinson Wells
Mrs. Georgia Dickinson Wells, 75, of Newnan, Ga., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003 at Newnan Hospital. She was born in Charleston, S.C. Aug. 25, 1928. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard "Sunny" Wells.

The funeral will be held at graveside at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Saturday, Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. Rev. Richard Noth will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

She is survived by daughter, Margaret and Terry Watson of Newnan; son, Bob and Susan Wells of Newnan; daughter, Lynn and Marshall Trumpour of Newnan; son, Hal and Beth Wells of Social Circle, Ga.; sister-in-law, Myrtice Tyson of Cairo, Ga.; grandchildren, Paul Watson, Christa Watson, Matthew Watson, Courtney Cofield, Brittney Wells, Ann Thornhill, Jonathan Trumpour, Marsh Trumpour, Maggie Wells, Sarah Beth Wells and Rachel Wells; great-grandchildren, Terri Watson, Bo Watson, Mark Watson, Jackson Thornhill and Abigail Cofield.
