Mr. Colin K. Nifong
Mr. Colin K. Nifong, 60, of Sharpsburg, Ga., died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at his residence.

He was a member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church and manager of Statewide Aluminum.

He was the son of Ralph Nifong of Sarasota, Fla., and Elnora (Pawling) Nifong of Elkhart, IN.

Also surviving are wife, Mrs. Rita R. (Bolenbaugh) Nifong of Newnan; daughter, Kimberly R. (Nifong) McCollum of Newnan; sons, Kevin Nifong and Jason Nifong, both of Newnan; sister, Rita Nifong; brothers, Darrell Nifong and Toby Nifong, both of Elkhart, IN; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, where visitation was Monday, Jan. 5 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the chapel Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. Dr. Tim Driggers and Dr. James Stewart officiating. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Harvey North Witcher
Mr. Harvey North Witcher, 85, died Dec. 23, 2003 in Redlands, Calif.. He was the fifth child of Amelia and Brewer Witcher of Newnan, born March 18, 1918. He was Baptist and a graduate of Newnan High School. In 1941 he joined the Army and had just graduated from Officer Candidate School when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. His served in California and the South Pacific. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norece; daughter, Denece; brothers, Greer, Brittain, Robert and Mell; sister, Anne Breed.

Surviving are wife, Barbara Miller Witcher, Mentone, CA, Amelia Janece Peek (Jerry), Yucaipa, CA, Harvey North Witcher Jr. (Marianne), El Paso, Texas, Patrece Witcher, Chico, CA, Alan Harvey Witcher (Jennifer), Woodland Hills, CA; step-children, Paul Miller (Gloria), Thousand Oaks, CA, Linda Argeros, Sharon, Mass., Laurie Worthington (Severio), San Juan, CA; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances McDowell, Powder Springs, Ga., Jenelle Watson (Harold), Montgomery, Ala., and Eleanor Bridges (Herb), Newnan; brother-in-law, Bill Breed, Newnan; sisters-in-law, Emily Witcher, Duluth, Ga., Mildred Witcher, San Francisco, CA; 26 nieces and nephews.

Burial was Dec. 30 in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA, with full military honors. Memorial donations to Parkinson's Foundation.

Mrs. Evelyn Martha (Brown) Hill
Mrs. Evelyn Martha (Brown) Hill, 78, of Senoia, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Ga.

She was born April 8, 1912 in Coweta County, daughter of the late Hugh and Jule Brandenburg Brown. She was a member of Senoia United Methodist Church. She had been employed at Big Star Grocery. She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Hill.

Surviving is her daughter, Karen Frances East and her husband Larry of Senoia, Ga.; brother, Harold Brown of Fayetteville, Ga.; and grandchildren, Clint and Lance East.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, Ga., where the family will receive friends 11:30 to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2. Funeral service will be at McKoon's chapel 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2. Rev. Bob Martin officiating. Interment in Senoia City Cemetery, Senoia, Ga.

Mrs. Ophelia McCutcheon
Mrs. Ophelia McCutcheon, 92, of Carrollton, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003.

She was born Jan. 19, 1911 in Cedartown to the late Winston and Annie Barrett, one of 11 children. In 1926 the family moved to College Park where she attended public schools and met and married her husband of 71 years. She was preceded in death by eight siblings. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a devoted assistant to her husband as he served as pastor of Baptist churches.

Surviving are her husband, Rev. C. R. McCutcheon; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Steve and Cynthia McCutcheon; granddaughter and husband, Stephanie and Sammy Dunlap, Barnesville; two sisters, Myrtice Teate, Starke, Fla., and Mary Ann Parker, Peachtree City, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Friday, Jan. 2 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Almon Funeral Home, Carrollton, with Dr. Steve Davis and Rev. John Riley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday morning before the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to First Baptist Church Praise and Faith Campaign, 102 Dixie St., Carrollton, Ga. 30117.

Mrs. Myrtle M. Akers
Mrs. Myrtle M. Akers, 85, of Walnutt Hill Road in Carrollton died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003. She was born March 24, 1918, in Carroll County, to the late Sandford Bradley and Minnie Lee Morrow.

Mrs. Akers was a homemaker and a member of the Abilene Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer W. Akers; a son, Nammon Akers; three sisters, Mary Griffis, Hazel Cook and Clara Knowles; and five brothers, Jewel Bradley, Herschel Bradley, James Bradley, Byron Bradley and Caron Bradley.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Winton and Judy AKers of Carrollton, and Waymon and Linda Akers of Newnan; four daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda A. Simpson of Bremen, Medra and Rex Morgan, Nelda and Mack Langley, and Melba Akers, all of Carrollton; two sisters, Evelyn Reese of Carrollton, and Lois Neese of Bremen; a brother, Herman Bradley of Carrollton; six grandchildren, Stacy Akers, Marcia Hanson, Joey Akers, Michael Morgan, Amanda AKers and Jody Chandler; 10 great grandchildren, Joseph Akers, Cody Akers, Ellie Hansen, Zach Hansen, Justin Chandler, Beth Chandler, Cameron Chandler, Dylan Weick, Emma Morgan and Alycea Gentry; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home in Carrollton, with Reverend Anthony Puckett and Elder Homer Benefield officiating.

Pallbearers were Michael Morgan, Jody Chandler, Stacy Akers, Joey Akers, Pual Hansen, Rex Morgan, and Bobby Stephens. Interment followed in the Abilene Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Bobby Gene Adams of Franklin died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003.

He is survived by a daughter, Marsha and Roger Hebert of Franklin; a son, Robert Adams of Franklin; sisters, Jackie and Bobby Davis of Peachtree City, Sandra and Melvin Brown of Peachtree City, and Brenda and Tommy Matthews of Tyrone; and three grandchildren, Jevon Hebert, Rachel Sivell and Heather Adams.

Funeral services will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home, with Reverend Ferron Roper officiating.

Interment will be at Sharon Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Shellie C. Adams, 94, of Sharpsburg died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004. She was preceded in death by a son, Leon Adams.

Survivors include a son, Earl W. and Linda F. Adams; a daughter-in-law, Pamelia Adams of Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Wayne and Amon Adams, Susan and Steve Woods, Elise and Ronnie Turner, Karen Dixon, and Kim and Todd Day; eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; sisters, Nettie Thomas and Thelma Smith; sisters-in-law, Christine Clements of McRae, Ga, Wilma Clements of Montclair, SC; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home, with Reverend L.R. Dunigan officiating. Interment will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park.

Reverend John L. Gaskins
Reverend John L. Gaskins of Monrovia, IN, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1920, in Tampa, Fl, to the late Leory and Elizabeth Anderson Gaskins.

He was a machine operator for Chrysler Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Kings House of Prayer and was actively involved in prison ministries and ministry in numerous nursing homes.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Vaughan Gaskins, formerly of Newnan; children, Delores Gurrea, and Bobby, Elizabeth and Catherine Gaskins; nine grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

A graveside funeral was held Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at a 12:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Janet R. Hudson Misch
Mrs. Janet R. Hudson Misch, 49, of 70 Bryant Road in LaGrange, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, in Hendersonville, TN.

She was born Sept. 5, 1954 in San Francisco, to Robbie and Lou Robinson. She was a sales clerk at Goodwill Industries.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel, with Reverend Billy Allen Officiating. Burial will be at Meadoway Gardens.

Survivors include her parents; her husband, Ronald D. Misch of LaGrange; one daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Monty Miller of Franklin; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Clint and Stephanie Walker of Newnan, Christopher Adam Walker of LaGrange, and Travis L. Hudson Jr. of LaGrange; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and David Rogers of Newnan, and Robin and Steve Hill of Newnan; three grandchildren and three nephews.

Mrs. Sarah K. Morris McDowell
Mrs. Sarah K. Morris McDowell, 67, of Carrollton, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at her residence.

She was born June 16, 1936 in Carrollton, to the late Robert Clyde Morris and Etta Mae Walker Morris.

She was a food assistant and a member of the Peachtree Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ernestine Warren and Sylvia Morris; a brother, Paul E. Morris; and infant twin siblings.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Robert E. McDowell; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Morris and Wanda McDowell of Carrollton; a daughter and son-in-law, Joye and George Greene Jr. of Hogansville; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jerome McDowell of Carrollton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, James McDowell and Allen Warren, both of Carrollton, Clinton and Nancy of Newborn, and Joyce McDowell of Palmetto; three grandchildren, Casey McDowell, Alicia Greene and Daniel Greene; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. from the Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel, with Reverend Byron Spruell officiating. Music will be rendered by the 'Voice of Faith.'

Pallbearers will be Michael McDowell, Scott McDowell, Shane Warren, Harold 'Buddy' Griffith, Wiley Mears and Gary Herring.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Carroll Chapter #406 Order of the Eastern Star. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens.

Mr. Cleophus Hardaway Jr.
Mr. Cleophus 'CJ' Hardaway Jr. died on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Newnan Hospital West.

A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Sunnyside Baptist Church in Greenville. The Reverend L.C. Godfrey and Reverend W.R. Chunn will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Brother C.J. Hardaway was born on Oct. 20, 1937, to Mr. and Mrs. Cleophus Hardaway Sr. (Mattie Lizzie) in Meriwether county. He attended public school in Meriwether County. He attended several different churches. He was united in marriage on Nov. 25, 1958, to the late Louise Sinkfield. To this union seven children were born, two of which preceded him in death, Melvin and Earnestine Hardaway.

To all who knew CJ he had a heart of gold, and was a good provider for his family, and was a hard worker. He truly loved his family.

He was employed by the State of Georgia Department of Transportation, where he retired after 38 years of service.

Survivors include three daughters, and two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sinkfield (Fannie), Ms. Vernell Hardaway, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Baker, Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Hardaway (Mary), Ms. Marion Hardaway; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleophus Hardaway Sr. (Mattie Lizzie); five brothers, Clarence Roosevelt, Daniel, Floyd, and Alfred; seven sisters, Virginia, Daisy, Effie, Vernice, Abilene, Sylvia, Arletha; 14 grandchildren, Marquise, Carleton, Nakeisha, Dewayne, Denise, Arletha, Reginald, Jennifer, Faithia, Jamariya, Antwan, Jacorie, Jakel, Neja; and eight great grandchildren, five sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends; and a special friend, Clara Mae Colton.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.

On the day of the service, family and friends are asked to assemble at the home of his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Baker (Ann) at 12:40 p.m.

Mrs. Mary Kate Reece
Mrs. Mary Kate Reece of Grantville died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003.

She was born in Cobb County to Huey and Hazel Gibson. Mrs. Reece was a retired school bus driver for Coweta schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Franklin Reece Jr.; and a son, Don Weeks Jr.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Clyde Franklin Reece III and Sherry of Grantville, and Tony Billes of Dallas, Ga.; and Debbie Ball of Douglasville; brother, Donald Gibson; sisters, June Reece, Bean Green, and Brenda Johnson; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with minister Jerry Smith officiating. Interment was in the Grantville Cemetery.

Mrs. Gladys (Bridges) Sprayberry
Mrs. Gladys (Bridges) Sprayberry, 94, of Newnan, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Franklin Healthcare in Franklin. She was born Aug. 5, 1909, the daughter of the late John and Nonie (Simmons) Bridges.

Her working career was spent in the textile industry with the Arnco Mills. She was a faithful member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death was her husband, N.D. Sprayberry.

Survivors include her children, Mrs. Barbara Thompson of Newnan and Mrs. Mavie Trice of Lake Junaluska, N.C.; her grandchildren, James Mathews Trice, James Christopher Trice and Debra Gourley; and two great grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, where the family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004. A funeral service was held at McKoon Funeral Home at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, with Reverend Gary Parrish and Reverend Jan Vaughn officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church at 4301 Highway 70, Newnan, 30263. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
