Mrs. Joyce Lewis Sorrow
Mrs. Joyce Lewis Sorrow, age 71, of Newnan, died Dec. 18, 2004 at Newnan Hospital.

A native of Fulton County, she was born in Atlanta, March 9, 1933, the daughter of the late Dewey Alton and Voyce Leona Hogan Lewis. Her life was dedicated to providing a nurturing and loving home for her family. She was predeceased by her husband Jack Thomas Sorrow and a son Tommy Sorrow.

Surviving her is one daughter Judy Bell and her husband Donnie, and their children Brittone and Kaley Bell. A sister Mary Wheeler and her husband Robbie and a brother Bill Lewis and his wife Elizabeth also survive, as do a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street where the family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Lewis and Rev. Tye Sorrow officiating. The interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www. mckoon. com.

Mrs. Morelle Sprayberry Lasseter
Mrs. Morelle Sprayberry Lassetter, 80, of Newnan, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004.

A native of Coweta County, she was born April 29, 1924, to the late Brice Brantley and Marjorie Smith Sprayberry. She was preceded in death by her husband, William North "Bill" Lassetter.

Mrs. Lassetter retired from Newnan Hospital where she served for many years as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Cokes Chapel Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Kelley; grandson, Clayton Kelley; a sister, Virginia Cox and her husband Ray; a nephew, Tim Bennett and his wife Debby, and their children, Ryan and Paulina.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funera HOme at 38 Jackson Street, where the family will receive friends today between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, December 20, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Reverend John Hagen officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Don Henderson
Mr. Don Henderson, 80, of Woodbury, Ga., died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004.

Mr. Henderson served in the Army in WWII. He is survived by his wife Annie Rita Henderson of Woodbury, Ga.; daughters, Deborah Lynn Rouse of Newnan, Ga., and Tina Ruth Knaute of Highland, Calif.; sons, Stanley John Henderson of Woodbury, Ga. and Daniel Zina Henderson of Marietta, S.C.; grandchildren, Victoria Anne Knaute, Angela Inez Rouse, Jennifer Lynne Knaute, Daniel Zina Henderson, and Tamara Devata Henderson.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Ga. where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18. Funeral service will be at McKoon Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, David Kettleson officiating. Interment will be at Senoia City Cemetery in Senoia, Ga.

Mr. Ralph W. Taylor
Mr. Ralph W. Taylor, 77, of Moreland, Ga., died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at his home.

Born April 4, 1927 in Coweta County, Mr. Taylor was the son of the late James Dawson Taylor and the late Newtie McWaters Taylor. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, was retired from Local 72 of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, and had lived in Coweta County most of his life. At the time of his death, Mr. Taylor was serving as an Alderman for the Town of Moreland.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pauline Couch Taylor of Moreland; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jean and Lynn McElroy of Moreland; three sons, Ralph Taylor Jr. of Mableton, Michael Taylor of Moreland, and Jeffrey Taylor of Newnan; two step-daughters and a step-son-in-law, Paulette Robinette of Woodstock and Linda and Jesse Roberts of Austell; one sister, Sally Poore of Hollywood, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Bobby Robinson will officiate and interment will be in Southview Cemetery in Moreland.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 Saturday night.

Mr. Carl R. Ashley
Mr. Carl Robert Ashley, 79, of Midland, Texas, left earth to join his loving wife Nina in Heaven on Thursday, December 16, 2004. Carl was born Nov. 28, 1925 to Robert Clifford and Tessie Lewis Ashley in Crossville, Alabama. He married Nina Cofield on June 6, 1942 in Newnan, Georgia. They lived in Hobbs, New Mexico for 30 years, moving there in 1953. In 1983 they moved back to Newnan, and in 1991 they moved to Midland, Texas. While in Hobbs, New Mexico, he was the owner and operator of C & C Motors. Carl served honorably and well in the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II enlisting in 1942 and receiving his discharge in 1946. He was a member of Men Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and Cuthbert Avenue Baptist Church.Carl loved the Lord, his family and the Atlanta Braves.He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Nina Ashley; one grandchild, Lindy Hickingbottom; his parents; and sister, Gladys White.Carl is survived by his son, Alton Ashley of Ashdown, AR; daughters, Shiela Anderson and husband, Perry, of Odessa, TX; Carlann McBroom and husband, Don, of Midland, TX; son, Robert Ashley of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Scott Ashley and wife, Terri; Dawn Allen and husband, Bryan; Todd Cullison and wife, Audra; Jody Ashley and wife, Brenda; Cliff McBroom and wife, Caryl; Shane Ashley and wife, Valerie; Matt Cullison, Jared Ashley, Vanessa Ashley, Tisha Corcoran, Amy Anderson, Brian Anderson and Josh Ashley; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Opal Moore of Opelika, AL.Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec.18, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Midland, Texas with Reverend H.W. Mrs. Margaret W. Burnette
Mrs. Margaret Wiles Burnette, 81, of Doraville, Ga., died Dec. 15, 2004. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home in Norcorss. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held in Newnan. Mrs. Burnette retired from DeKalb Waterworks and was a member of Northwoods Baptist Church. Mrs. Helen L. Cook
Mrs. Helen L. (Lawler) Cook, 81, of Newnan, Ga., died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004. She was a supervisor for Playtex in Manchester and Newnan for many years, and owned Lee Manufacturing. She is survived by her husband Ralph Cook of Newnan; daughters, Sylvia Cook Harris of Newnan, Helen Marie Couch of Lynnhaven, Fla. and Sherry Cook Ray of Peachtree City, Ga.; son, Ralph Richard Cook of Peachtree City; grandchildren, Holly Harris Garland, Melissa Couch Harris, Keith Harris, Marsha Couch Lester, Jenni Cook and Whitney Ray; six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wanda Shaw Jackson
Mrs. Wanda Shaw Jackson of Forest Park, Ga., passed away Dec. 13, 2004.

Surviving are husband, Edward Jackson; parents, Henry and Agnes Shaw; sister, Mrs. Allie Jo Banks; brothers, Randy Shaw, Keith Shaw; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Jackson worked as a secretary for Cox Enterprises for 25 years.

A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16 at Ward's-Parkway Chapel in Forest Park. Rev. Randy Cheek was officiating.

Mr. Milton Glen Reitenour Jr.
Mr. Milton Glen Reitenour Jr., 80, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at his home in Moreland, Ga. He was born in Mullins, West Virginia on April 26, 1924 to the late Milton Glen Reitenour and the late Ann Elizabeth Miller Reitenour. He was the owner of Capital Explosives.

The funeral is Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery in Moreland. Ms. Valencia "Skeeter" Williamson Ballard

Valencia "Skeeter" Williamson Ballard, 44, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born April 25, 1960 to Melvinor Elliott Williamson Kendricks and the late Monroe Williamson Jr. She was also preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. William Parks of Newnan.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Pastor Philip Carr officiating. Mr. John Kent Huey

Mr. John Kent Huey, 42, of Senoia, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004. He was the son of Johnnie and Linda Huey of Birmingham, Ala. Mr. Huey was an EMT for Coweta County. He served in the USMC as a Presidential Honor Guard for President Ronald Reagan. He is survived by his wife Ingrid Huey of Senoia, daughter, Tiffany Ann Huey of Senoia, Ga.; sister, Leisa Barnette of Asheville, N.C.; brother, Terry Huey of Birmingham, Ala.; mother and father-in-law, Joann and Bill Smith of Sharpsburg, Ga. Mr. Damon Jackson Hunter

Mr. Damon Jackson Hunter, 58, of LaGrange, Ga., died Dec. 14, 2004 at LaGrange Hospital. He was born in Troup County, Ga. to the late John Huntner and Mozelle Wright Hunter. Mr. Hunter had worked in construction with Schaar Water Proofing and later with Mountville Mills and was a member of Bethel Chapel Baptist Church in LaGrange, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Sandy Hunter; a step-daughter, Linda Pollick; brothers and sisters, Trudy Schaar of Newnan, Howard Hunter of Tennessee, Robert Hunter of Roopville, Cheryl Brown of Carrollton, Terry Hunter of Franklin, Margie Bryan of Hogansville and Valera Cauthen of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Dec. 17, at 3:30 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. D. L. Moody officiating. Music will be rendered by Gayla Royster. Mr. John Linch

Mr. John Linch, 92, of Senoia, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 4, 1912 in Coweta County, son of the late David Chapman and Mary Willie Ingram Linch. He is predeceased by his siblings Hugh Linch, Bill Linch, and Martha L. Pennington. He retired from Georgia Highway Express. He had served in the Army in World War II. He is survived by his three sisters, Carolyn L. Summers, Mary L. Summers and Ettie L. Freeman.

Mrs. Marjorie Jean Brasselle Malloy

Mrs. Marjorie Jean Brasselle Malloy, 75, of Franklin, TN, formerly of Newnan and Columbus, Ga., died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 in Nashville, TN.
Mrs. Malloy was born Sept. 30, 1929 in Andalusia to Herbert Spencer Brasselle and Durlie Gladys Thomasson Brasselle. She married Harry Ross Malloy on July 4, 1948 (deceased 1987).
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan, Ga. and the Brooklyn Baptist Church in Brooklyn, AL and was active for 40 years in the United Daughters of the Confederacy on local and Georgia state levels. She served as state convention chairman in 1958, Georgia Division Treasurer (1973-1976), president of Newnan chapter, and organizing president of the Thomas Randolph Thomasson Chapter of Andalusia Chapter of Andalusia, AL.
Mrs. Malloy was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United States Daughters of 1812, Daughters of the American Colonists, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, and the Clan McFarlanc.
She had an overflowing love of genealogy instilled in her by her grandfather, George Clauson Thomasson. Together with Curtis Thomasson she compiled a two-volume publication of Lineage and Narrative of the Thomasson Family dating from 1677 to 1995, entitled, "Thomasson Traces," Volume, I and II.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, from the Brooklyn Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Williamson officiating with burial in Thomasson Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home and at the church 30 minutes prior to services.
Survivors include her son Ross Thomasson (Melanie Neill) Malloy of Nashville, TN; her daughter, Charlotte Malloy Slaughter of Bowling Green, KY; her grandchildren, Durlie Rebecca (Daniel) Bryant, Ryan Thomasson Malloy, and Ross Clark Malloy of Nashville, TN.
Pallbeareres: James Knowles, William Everett Knowles, Glenn Knowles, Gordon Knowles, David Knowles, and Buster Ward.

Mrs. Nellie Payne

Mrs. Nellie Payne, 82, of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004.
She is survived by her husband, U.D. Payne of Newnan; son, David Payne of Acworth, Ga.; granddaughter, Jennifer Miller of Newnan; grandson, Chris Payne of Villa Rica, Ga.

Mrs. Leona Burks
Mrs. Leona Burks, 95, of Grantville, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Born May 30, 1909 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Burks was the daughter of the late Barney and Dallas Denney Malcolm. She married the late Thomas Burks and moved to Coweta County, where she lived the remainder of her life. Following her retirement, she spent her time doing what she loved most, enjoying her family, always lending a helping hand, and assisting those in need in the community. She loved sharing her famous pound cake and chocolate pie. Mrs. Burks was the oldest female member of the Grantville First Baptist Church, whre she attended every Sunday.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Bill Lowry; a son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Hazel Burks, all of Grantville; one sister, Eva Allen of Newnan Hospital Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; a brother-in-law, Mike Powers of Grantville; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16 in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Ed Wyatt and the Rev. Searcy Jackson will officiate and interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Jerry Kenneth "Ken" Hopson
Mr. Jerry Kenneth "Ken" Hopson, 69, of Newnan, Ga., died Dec. 13, at Newnan Hospital. He was born in Coweta County Aug. 24, 1935, and was preceded in death by his parents Warner and Vera (Haynes) Hopson. Mr. Hopson was of the Baptist faith, coached Little League baseball for over 20 years and loved hunting and fishing. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Sara (Morrow) Hopson of Newnan; sons and daughter-in-law, Jeff Hopson, Jake and Jamie Hopson; daughters and sons-in-law, Jerri and Melvin Burns, Sally and Kevin Benson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Jean Hopson, Ronnie and Linda Hopson; sisters, Shelia and Kim; grandchildren, Randy and Kendell Hopson, Justin and Jordan Holloway, Jacob and Brittany Hopson, Amanda and Sam Smith. Funeral services will be today, Wednesday, Dec. 15, at noon at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with Rev. Joe Buford officiating; interment Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Higgins Hillcrest Chapel.

Mr. Billy C. Cox
Billy C. Cox, 56, of Newnan, Ga., died Dec. 12, 2004 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. He was born in Pikeville, Tenn., and was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Geneva (Graham) Cox. Mr. Cox was a veteran of the U.S. Army and received a National Defense Service Medal and a Sharpshooter M-14 Commendation. He loved amateur radio communication and was a former member of the local BGMRC Amateur Radio Club. He enjoyed weather forecasting and had a weather web page for his friends. He was a robotic technician/programmer for Kason Industries and was a member of the St. John Ukranian Orthodox Church in NY State. Survivors include his wife, Lidia Irene (Madejchyk) Cox and daughter, Cinthea Cox of Newnan; brother, Jimmy Howard Cox of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel. Pallbearers are Paul Kocak, Brian Kocak, Robert Kocak, Jim Morgan, Bob Cole and Alvin Willingham. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Tuesday, 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Higgins Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan, Ga.

Ms. Lida N. "Billie" Hines
Ms. Lida N. "Billie" Hines, born Oct. 20, 1913, died Dec. 13, 2004 at Avalon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Newnan, Ga.

"Billie," formerly of Brownwood, Texas, is survived by daughters Dottie Roney, Newnan, Ga., Doylene Salamon, Granbury, Texas; grandchildren, Carlene Brown, Norfolk, Va., Randy Anderson, Morrow, Ga., Diane Cayce, Keller, Texas and Kristi Anderson, Smyrna, Ga.; she is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The family plans a memorial service at Avalon after the first of the New Year.

Mr. Terry Gene Hosmer
Mr. Terry Gene Hosmer, age 51, of Newnan, died at his home Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004. Mr. Hosmer was born in Newnan in 1953 to Bud and Frances Hosmer. Terry attended Western High School and then served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal CVA-59. Known as the "World's 1st Super Aircraft Carrier," Terry spent his entire Navy enlistment on the ship serving as a Purchasing Agent in the Ship's Store, on the Aviation Fleet Preparation Team, and also in the Firefighting Team. He will be remembered for his patriotism, love of his country, being a loving son, brother and uncle.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Frances Hosmer; five brothers Billy Hosmer and his wife Jima, Johnny Hosmer and his wife Sarah, Eddie Hosmer and his wife Karen, Woodie Hosmer and his wife Nancy, and twin brother Larry Hosmer; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. His father Mr. Amos "Bud" Hosmer, Sr. and a brother Amos "Buddy" Hosmer, Jr. precede him in death.

The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 2004. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 with Rev. Patrick Jansen officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.

Mrs. Lydia Elaine Moon
Mrs. Lydia Elaine Moon, age 55, of Newnan died on Dec. 12, 2004 at her residence. She was an employee of the Walmart in Newnan and a member of the Faith Baptist Church. Mrs. Moon was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Lula Hudmon Cornett.

She is survived by her son Mr. Nathan Frank Moon of Newnan and brother Mr. David Paul Cornett of Buford.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Ball and Rev. Doug Pitts officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Remains to lie in state from 1 p.m. until funeral time. Family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-9 at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan.
