Carl James Gossett

Carl James Gossett, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.

Mr. Gossett was born March 29, 1928, in Bartow County, a son of the late Marcus and Meeky Collum Gossett.

He was of the Baptist faith, a United States Army veteran and was employed as a security guard.

Preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Ruth Underwood Gossett.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Robin and Tracy Gossett; his grandchildren, Laura, Leslie and Lindsay Gossett, John Underwood and Tara Underwood Deitz; a sister, Bertice White, of Cartersville, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Owen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Randall Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites observed.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy McNeil, Ronnie McNeil, John Underwood, Josh Deitz, Terry Underwood and Casey Swann.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Joyce Bernece (MawMaw) Huskins

Joyce Bernece (Mawmaw) Huskins, 81, of White, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009.

Mrs. Huskins was born June 29, 1927, a daughter of the late Arthur and Nettie Queen Barnett.

She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Marble, N.C.

Bernice loved quilting, gardening and canning. She was called Mawmaw not only by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, but also by many of the children that came through her door in White. Her door was always open, no matter what age.

Preceded in death by her husband, Maud Wofford Huskins, she is survived by two daughters, Jewell (Danny) Springfield of Cartersville and Judy (Robbie) Holmes of White; four sons, Ernest Huskins, (Barb) of Rydal, Terry Huskins (Lisa) of Cartersville, Freddy Wayne Huskins of White, Edward Huskins of White and a daughter-in-law, Ruthelle Huskins of White; three sisters, Kate (C.J.) McClure of Marietta, Ellen Palmer of Marietta and Lily Mae Wilson of Marble, N.C.; two brothers, Kendell (Sarah) Barnett of Marble, N.C. and Roy Barnett of Marble, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, C.E. Huskins; a grandson, Lee Springfield; and brothers, Joe and Ralph Barnett.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Huskins officiating. Interment will be in the White cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brandon and Cameron Huskins, Timmy Huskins, Grant Springfield, Johnny Huskins, Anthony Huskins, Billy Ray, Blake Ray and Brent Ray.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Huskins and Jimmy Pinion.

The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Etowah Education Foundation.

Claude Henry Radford

Claude Henry Radford, 71, of Dogwood Drive, Cartersville, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009.

Funeral Walter Hart Sager

Walter Hart Sager, 77, of West Avenue, Cartersville, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009.

Mr. Sager was born March 1, 1931, in Fairfax, Va., a son of the late Paul Haines Sager and Mary Hart Sager.

He was a United States Marine Corps veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict from 1948 - 1952, was an active member of the Sam Jones United Methodist Church in Cartersville, long time member of the Cartersville Rotary Club and a graduate of Georgia Tech.

He retired from the Merrill Lynch, where he served as a vice president and senior financial advisor.

Mr. Sager enjoyed renovating his 1905 Cartersville home, travelling with his wife, skiing, spending time with his family in the mountains and at the beach and hosting international Rotary students.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Margaret Anne Sager, to whom he was married on June 18, 1954, his children and their spouses, Beth and Benson Poy of Tucker, Joy and David Wall of Lenoir City, Tenn., Karl and Gretchen Sager of Cartersville, Kent and Wanda Sager of Adairsville, and Kyle and Bonnie Sager of Cumming; his grandchildren, Clinton, Sergey and Hayley Poy, Brent and Brian Sager, Scott Sager, Kayla and Chase Womack, Dylan, Tristan and Jessie Wall, Kylie Nicole and Katelyn Sager.

He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Rauma of Cartersville, Margaret Smith of Baltimore, Md., Paul Haines Sager Jr. and sister-in-law, Nancy of Carlsbad, Calif., Frances Lolly and brother-in-law, Allan, of LaJolla, Calif., and Helen Zirkle and brother-in-law, Doll, of Manchester, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Thursday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. from the Sam Jones United Methodist Church, with Dr. Bill Burch and the Rev. Dee Dee Lawson officiating.

Interment services will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m., from the Fairfax cemetery in Fairfax, Va.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and members of the Marco Sunday School Class and the Cartersville Rotary Club will be honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sam Jones United Methodist Church, 100 Church Street, Cartersville, GA 30120 or to the Heartland Hospice, 9 Medical Drive, Cartersville, GA 30121.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m., and the body will lie in state at the church Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Owen Funeral Home.

Norma Jean Kay

Norma Jean Kay, 61, of Cartersville died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at the Cartersville Medical Center.

A native of Bartow County, she was born Aug. 5, 1947, and was the daughter of Gracie Clay Teague and the late Floyd Charles Teague.

Norma was a member of Peeples Valley Baptist Church and had been employed over the years with Goodyear, EZ Mills, Cartersville Medical Center, and Wal-Mart.

She enjoyed spending time with her friends, going out to eat, shopping and going to the movies.

She also loved spending time with her grandkids.

Norma was a history buff and was especially interested in Civil War and Bartow County history.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Kathy Kay of Cartersville; her daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Peter Grant of Canton; her granddaughter, Alexis Kay; her grandson, Andrew Grant; her mother, Gracie Teague of Cartersville; her aunt and uncles, Jimmy and Estelene Clay of Winter Haven, Fla., E.G. Clay and Emma Jean Clay of Louisville, Ky., and Nan Brideau of Cartersville; and several special cousins, Carol Bender and Doris Philpot.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Bailey officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville.

Barry Lusk

Barry Lusk, 58, of Fort Oglethorpe died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009.

He was a graduate of the University of Georgia where he played football.

Mr. Lusk had also been active in the Post Recreation Association where he had served as commissioner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Libby Lusk.

Survivors include his sons, John Ross Lusk, Blake Lusk and Barry Lusk Jr.; parents, Winston and Johnnie Lusk; and several grandchildren.

Memorial services will at 4 p.m. Saturday in the chapel.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.

Frank Eugene Neal Sr.

Mr. Frank Eugene Neal Sr., 76, of 51 W. Main St., Kingston, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 25, 2009, at the residence.

Mr. Neal was born in Bartow County, Jan. 30, 1933. He is the son of the late Jess Neal and Della Chastain Neal.

He served in the U.S. Army 5th Division during the Korean War and was of the Baptist faith.

He was the fuel desk manager at Patty's Truck Stop in Adairsville for 43 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Elbert, Chester, Herman, Clinton, Bull, Tom and Billy; two sisters, Bessie Bennett and Mary Sue Daniels.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Neal of Kingston; son and daughter-in-law, Frank (Tammie) Neal Jr. of Kingston; two daughters, Michelle Schultz of Kingston and Carolyn Wilson of Trion; five grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany) Neal, Joshua (Sarah) Long, James (Deborah) Long, Heather (Billy) Ivester, and Deena Wilson; two great-grandchildren, Toccoa Long, his little buddy, and Donovan Ivester; two brothers, Dave Neal of Knoxville, Tenn., and J.M. Neal of Adairsville; two sisters, Frances Pointer of Adairsville and Beatrice Young of Rydal; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Millner and Rev. C.E. Wilkey officiating. Interment will follow in Kingston Cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers will be Tyron Owensby, Tony Smith, Trey Cowart, Jimmy Young, Jason Neal and Jacob Hall.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Alford and Bobbie Mullinax.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Barton Funeral Home.
