J W Norred
Retired 1st Sgt. J W Norred, 70, of 405 Jefferson St., died Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Norred, born September 4, 1930, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of the late T J and Lucille Norred. He had lived in LaGrange most of his life and was raised in the Calumet Community. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service where he served two tours of duty in the Signal Corps in Vietnam and also in the 82nd Airborne during the Dominican Republic engagement. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and chairman of the Board of Deacons.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Grace Geter Norred; two daughters and son-in-law, Harriett Shepherd and Sandy and Ernie Norton, all of LaGrange; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Deb Norred and Jeff and Le Norred, all of LaGrange; 12 grandchildren, Bill, Barbie, Benji and Misty Shepherd, Amber, Braden and Jayson Norton, Scott and Sheri Norred; Jamie and Angela Norred and Ashley Norred; four great-grandchildren, Haley, Little Bill and Lindsay Shepherd, and Tyler Norred; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Dianne and Terry Mason of Snellville and Karen and Stan Wingard of Pine Mountain; a stepson, the Rev. Bryan Geter of Warm Springs; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; five sisters, Loraine Peavy of Winter Haven, Fla., Sylvene Funk of Phenix City, Ala., Ruth Saddler of Buchanan, Mich. and Evelyn Searle and Sue Parks, both of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jackie Norred, and a daughter, Barbara Susan Norred.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with the Revs. Bryan Geter and Jimmy McMillian officiating. Entombment will be in Shadowlawn Mausoleum with military honors.
The family will be at his home at 405 Jefferson St., and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 this evening.
Mrs. Marion D. Smith
Mrs. Marion Davis Smith, 74, of 510 Park Ave., died Friday at West Georgia Medical Center.

Elijah (Bill) Stozier of 410 Brown St., died Friday at Florence Hand Home.

Mrs. Louise Carden
Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Elizabeth Cook Carden, 80, of Roanoke will be at 3 this afternoon at Antioch Christian Church. The Revs. Floyd Carmack and Maynard McGinty and Dr. Frank McCook will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Carden died Saturday at her home.
A native of Troup County, she was born Sept. 3, 1920, the daughter of the late Oscar Miller and Ruth Adalyn Emory Cook. She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Carden of Roanoke; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean Carden Henry and Raymond Henry of Lanett, Ala., and Sandra Carden Densmore and Bob Densmore of Roanoke; a son, Stephen Mark Carden of Roanoke; and two grandsons, Neal R. Henry of Lanett and Roby Joe Carden of Roanoke. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe T. Carden Jr., and two brothers, Oscar Emory Cook and Paul Miller Cook.
Memorials may be made to Antioch Christian Church in memory of Mrs. Carden.

Mrs. Marion Smith
Mrs. Marion Davis Smith, 74, of 510 Park Ave., died Friday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Smith, the daughter of the late Theo Burns and Effie Viola Street Davis, was born in Coweta County on January 17, 1926. She had lived in LaGrange most of her life and was a graduate of Newnan High School and LaGrange College. She was a member of Church of the King.
Survivors include her husband, Porter G. Smith Sr. of LaGrange; a daughter and son-in-law, Ginny Smith and Gene Caldwell of Cumming; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Porter G. Jr. and Jo Titus Smith of LaGrange and Theo Burns Smith of Columbus; two grandchildren, Titus G. Smith and Kathryn Smith of LaGrange; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Henry G. Jr. and Helen Smith of Atlanta.
Graveside services will be at 3 this afternoon in Hillview East Cemetery
with Pastor Hope Taylor officiating.

Mrs. Ruby Thompson Horne, 86, of Hogansville died Saturday at West Georgia Medical Center.

Rodney Lamar Hardnett, 33, of 6056 East Creekview Court in Rex died Thursday at his home.
A native of LaGrange and graduate of LaGrange High School, Mr. Hardnett was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church where he served on the User Board. He served 14 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of gunnery sergeant.
Survivors include his parents, James Edward and Dorothy Hardnett of LaGrange; a brother, James Edward Hardnett of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. Sherry (Barry) Copeland of Stockbridge; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bessie Moss; three uncles, Charlie Lee Hardnett, Henry (Brenda) Moss and Raymond (Mattie) Moss, all of LaGrange; two aunts, Mrs. Janice (Randy) Copeland of LaGrange and Mrs. Sandra (Michael) Herbert of Boynton, Fla.; three nieces, Latasha Harrell, Jessica Copeland and Camille Hardnett; a great-nephew, Khalil Harrell; and several other relatives.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church at 205 Union St., with the Rev. Felton James officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery
with full military honors.
The family will be at the home of his mother at 223 Niles St.

Arthur Willie Daniels
Arthur Willie (Tip) Daniels died Tuesday in Atlanta.
Local survivors include a brother, Roosevelt Daniels of LaGrange; a sister, Arttie M. Gunn of Pine Mountain; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Jimmy W. Gamble
Jimmy W. Gamble, 49, of Hogansville died Sunday at Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Va.
Mr. Gamble, born October 20, 1951, in Hogansville, was the son of Mrs. Irma Spradlin Gamble of Hogansville and the late Billy E. Gamble. He was a Baptist and a carpenter.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include, three brothers, David Gamble, Charles Gamble and Bobby Gamble, all of Hogansville; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Claude A. McKibben & Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Rev. Willie L. Spradlin officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hazel Taylor
Mrs. Hazel Taylor, 85, of 1409 Juniper St., died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Taylor, born July 22, 1915, in Lanett, Ala., was the daughter of the late O.J. and Minnie Lee Waters Danford. She lived here most of her life and retired from the Kex Plant of Milliken & Company. She was a Baptist and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
Survivors include five daughters, Betty Jo Jones, Carol Williams and Caffie Stogner, all of LaGrange, Martha Holloway of the Abbottsford Community and Debbie Pike of Franklin; a son, Eddie Taylor of Southport, Fla., 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with the Rev. Olin McClain officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Caffie Stogner, at 202 Merrill Drive and will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 7 until 9.
Mrs. Jackie Jackson
Mrs. Jackie Jackson 36, of 210 Peachtree St., died Sunday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Jackson, born July 24, 1964, in LaGrange, had lived here all her life and was a former employee of Defender Services. She attended First Baptist Church on the Square.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Jackson of LaGrange; three daughters, Tiffeny Jackson of Atlanta, Jessica Jackson and Brittney Jackson, both of LaGrange; her mother, Pauline Poss of LaGrange; a sister, Shelia Poss of Maine; three brothers, Ricky Gibson of Atlanta, David Gibson of LaGrange and Tommy Poss in the U.S. Navy; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Meadoway Gardens with Dr. Paul R. Baxter officiating.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8.
Mrs. Jennie Lou Ussery
Mrs. Jennie Lou Ussery, 80, of Arnoldsville, formerly of LaGrange, died Sunday at Rainbow Retirement Center in Arnoldsville.
Mrs. Ussery, born April 22, 1920, in Meriwether County, was the daughter of the late A.A. and Mattie Gilbert Harrison. She had lived here most of her life before moving to Arnoldsville two years ago. She was a member of Bartley Road Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Rita Best of LaGrange; a son, John H. Ussery Jr, of Lexington, four grandchildren, a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John Henry Ussery Sr.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with Minister Elmer M. McCoy Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens.
The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 7 until 9.
Mrs. Myrtice Wright
Mrs. Myrtice Taylor Wright, 81, of Hogansville died Sunday at Rockdale County Hospital in Conyers.
Mrs. Wright, born September 28, 1919, in Crisp County, had lived in Hogansville since 1935 and was a member of Welcome All Baptist Church in Hogansville where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher. She retired from Uniroyal after 43 years.
Survivors include a daughter Annette Boyd of LaGrange; two sons, Ronnie Wright of Conyers and Danny Wright of Newnan; two sisters, Lois Breed and Thelma Sparks, both of Valley, Ala; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. She was the wife of the late Vester Wright.
Funeral services will be this afternoon at 2:30 at Welcome All Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy McLeroy and Paul Stitcher officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Rosie Pierce
Mrs. Rosie Pierce, 90, of 184 Pine Circle died Monday at Twin Fountains Nursing Home.
Mrs. Pierce, born April 24, 1910, in the Flona Community of Heard County, was the daughter of the late Shellie and Mahaley Cordillia Noles Cosper. She had lived here since 1951, retired from the Dunson Division of West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Company and attended Sunnyside Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Shellie Pierce and Paul Pierce, both of LaGrange, David Pierce of Omaha, Ala.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Knight officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her son, Shellie Pierce, at 315 Sivell Road and will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.
