Mrs. Marion Smith

Mrs. Marion Davis Smith, 74, of 510 Park Ave., died Friday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Smith, the daughter of the late Theo Burns and Effie Viola Street Davis, was born in Coweta County on January 17, 1926. She had lived in LaGrange most of her life and was a graduate of Newnan High School and LaGrange College. She was a member of Church of the King.
Survivors include her husband, Porter G. Smith Sr. of LaGrange; a daughter and son-in-law, Ginny Smith and Gene Caldwell of Cumming; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Porter G. Jr. and Jo Titus Smith of LaGrange and Theo Burns Smith of Columbus; two grandchildren, Titus G. Smith and Kathryn Smith of LaGrange; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Henry G. Jr. and Helen Smith of Atlanta.
Graveside services will be at 3 this afternoon in Hillview East Cemetery with Pastor Hope Taylor officiating.
Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ruby Horne

Mrs. Ruby Thompson Horne, 86, of Hogansville died Saturday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Claude A. McKibben & Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.

Rodney Hardnett

Rodney Lamar Hardnett, 33, of 6056 East Creekview Court in Rex died Thursday at his home.
A native of LaGrange and graduate of LaGrange High School, Mr. Hardnett was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church where he served on the User Board. He served 14 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of gunnery sergeant.
Survivors include his parents, James Edward and Dorothy Hardnett of LaGrange; a brother, James Edward Hardnett of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. Sherry (Barry) Copeland of Stockbridge; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bessie Moss; three uncles, Charlie Lee Hardnett, Henry (Brenda) Moss and Raymond (Mattie) Moss, all of LaGrange; two aunts, Mrs. Janice (Randy) Copeland of LaGrange and Mrs. Sandra (Michael) Herbert of Boynton, Fla.; three nieces, Latasha Harrell, Jessica Copeland and Camille Hardnett; a great-nephew, Khalil Harrell; and several other relatives.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church at 205 Union St., with the Rev. Felton James officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will be at the home of his mother at 223 Niles St.
West Georgia Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Willie Daniels

Arthur Willie (Tip) Daniels died Tuesday in Atlanta.
Local survivors include a brother, Roosevelt Daniels of LaGrange; a sister, Arttie M. Gunn of Pine Mountain; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Gus Thornhill Funeral Home in East Point.

Jimmy W. Gamble

Jimmy W. Gamble, 49, of Hogansville died Sunday at Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Va.
Mr. Gamble, born October 20, 1951, in Hogansville, was the son of Mrs. Irma Spradlin Gamble of Hogansville and the late Billy E. Gamble. He was a Baptist and a carpenter.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include, three brothers, David Gamble, Charles Gamble and Bobby Gamble, all of Hogansville; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Claude A. McKibben & Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Rev. Willie L. Spradlin officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hazel Taylor

Mrs. Hazel Taylor, 85, of 1409 Juniper St., died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Taylor, born July 22, 1915, in Lanett, Ala., was the daughter of the late O.J. and Minnie Lee Waters Danford. She lived here most of her life and retired from the Kex Plant of Milliken & Company. She was a Baptist and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
Survivors include five daughters, Betty Jo Jones, Carol Williams and Caffie Stogner, all of LaGrange, Martha Holloway of the Abbottsford Community and Debbie Pike of Franklin; a son, Eddie Taylor of Southport, Fla., 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with the Rev. Olin McClain officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Caffie Stogner, at 202 Merrill Drive and will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 7 until 9.

Mrs. Jackie Jackson

Mrs. Jackie Jackson 36, of 210 Peachtree St., died Sunday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Jackson, born July 24, 1964, in LaGrange, had lived here all her life and was a former employee of Defender Services. She attended First Baptist Church on the Square.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Jackson of LaGrange; three daughters, Tiffeny Jackson of Atlanta, Jessica Jackson and Brittney Jackson, both of LaGrange; her mother, Pauline Poss of LaGrange; a sister, Shelia Poss of Maine; three brothers, Ricky Gibson of Atlanta, David Gibson of LaGrange and Tommy Poss in the U.S. Navy; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Meadoway Gardens with Dr. Paul R. Baxter officiating.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8.

Mrs. Jennie Lou Ussery

Mrs. Jennie Lou Ussery, 80, of Arnoldsville, formerly of LaGrange, died Sunday at Rainbow Retirement Center in Arnoldsville.
Mrs. Ussery, born April 22, 1920, in Meriwether County, was the daughter of the late A.A. and Mattie Gilbert Harrison. She had lived here most of her life before moving to Arnoldsville two years ago. She was a member of Bartley Road Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Rita Best of LaGrange; a son, John H. Ussery Jr, of Lexington, four grandchildren, a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John Henry Ussery Sr.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with Minister Elmer M. McCoy Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens.
The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 7 until 9.

Mrs. Myrtice Wright

Mrs. Myrtice Taylor Wright, 81, of Hogansville died Sunday at Rockdale County Hospital in Conyers.
Mrs. Wright, born September 28, 1919, in Crisp County, had lived in Hogansville since 1935 and was a member of Welcome All Baptist Church in Hogansville where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher. She retired from Uniroyal after 43 years.
Survivors include a daughter Annette Boyd of LaGrange; two sons, Ronnie Wright of Conyers and Danny Wright of Newnan; two sisters, Lois Breed and Thelma Sparks, both of Valley, Ala; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. She was the wife of the late Vester Wright.
Funeral services will be this afternoon at 2:30 at Welcome All Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy McLeroy and Paul Stitcher officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The Claude A. McKibben & Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rosie Pierce

Mrs. Rosie Pierce, 90, of 184 Pine Circle died Monday at Twin Fountains Nursing Home.
Mrs. Pierce, born April 24, 1910, in the Flona Community of Heard County, was the daughter of the late Shellie and Mahaley Cordillia Noles Cosper. She had lived here since 1951, retired from the Dunson Division of West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Company and attended Sunnyside Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Shellie Pierce and Paul Pierce, both of LaGrange, David Pierce of Omaha, Ala.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Knight officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her son, Shellie Pierce, at 315 Sivell Road and will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ruby Horne

Mrs. Ruby Thompson Horne, 86, of Hogansville, died Saturday at West Georgia Medical Center.
A native of Dodge County, Mrs. Horne had lived in Hogansville for the past 54 years and was retired from Uniroyal Inc. She was a member of Hogansville Church of God and was a former church pianist.
Survivors include her husband, Ira V. Horne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Billie and Billy Shaw of LaGrange, and Barbara and Danny Goolsby of Warner Robins; one son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Karen Horne of St. Augustine, Fla.; a step-daughter, Doris Daniel of Warner Robins; one brother, J.P. Thompson of Florida; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Claude A. McKibben & Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Charles Chapman and Randall Hodge officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home .

Mrs. Sarah Copeland

Mrs. Sarah Truitt Copeland, 87, of Carrollton, and a former resident of Hogansville, died today at Fayette Community Hospital in Fayetteville.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.

Willie R. Edmondson

Willie R. Edmondson of Newnan died Sunday at Franklin Health Care Center.
Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elijah Strozier

Elijah (Bill) Strozier of 410 Brown St., died Friday at Florence Hand Home.
Mr. Strozier, a native of Stovall, was the son of the late Azell and Eunice Parham Strozier. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church and the J.C. Holliday American Legion Post 580.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Strozier and Linda Rucker, both of LaGrange; grandsons, Brandon and Andrew; other family members, Anthony Bostic and Deshun Smith, caregiver, Laura Hardy; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mackey-Wilson- Jennings Funeral Home with the Rev. J.R. Ware officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of his daughter, Darlene Strozier at 203 East Crovat St.

Joseph Roger McCord

Joseph Roger (Joe) McCord, 81, of 2795 Bartley Road died Dec. 21 at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. McCord, born March 9, 1919, in Lee County, Ala., was the son of the late Milas and Susie McCord. He was a retired auto mechanic from Hughley Scott Ford in West Point, from Callaway Mills Company and as a textile worker and from Troup County Schools as a school bus driver. He was a veteran of World War II and was a participant of the Tuskegee Institute Veterans Program majoring in automobile mechanics. He was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church where he was a deacon, church clerk and Sunday school superintendent for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Minnie McCord; two daughters, JoAnn McCord Butcher of LaGrange and Deborah G. McCord of Gadsden, Ala., sons, Keith R. McCord and Kinney McCord, both of LaGrange; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers-in-law, Fannie Lou and Clifford Johnson of West Point, Ruth Potts of LaGrange and Ardel and John Winston of West Point; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Josephine McCord of Indianapolis, Ind., and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald R. McCord, a stepson, Grady Hutchinson, a brother, Horace McCord and a sister, Alberta Lockhart.
Funeral services will be at Friendship Baptist Church in Gabbettville with the Rev. Bartholomew Orr officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at his home and will receive friends there.

Mrs. Jarvis W. Elliott

Mrs. Jarvis Williams Elliott of 109 Hamilton St., formerly of New York and Kansas City, Mo., died Dec. 21 at her home.
Mrs. Elliott, born in LaGrange, was the daughter of Mrs. Alyce Williams of LaGrange and the late James Williams. She was a retired nurse’s assistant.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include a daughter Khalilah Elliott of LaGrange; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kelvin and Tracy Mosely and Shaun Mosely, all of Kansas City; seven grandchildren; a sister, Patsy Williams of LaGrange; two nieces, a nephew, cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, David Brown.
Funeral services will be at 1 this afternoon at Lakes-Dunson- Robertson Funeral Home with the Rev. J.R. Ware officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at her home.

Mrs. Margaret B. Sturdivant, 93, of 2188 Hamilton Road died Tuesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

Tommie Elliott Jr.

Tommie Elliott Jr., of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of LaGrange, died December 17.
Mr. Elliott was the son of the late Tommie Sr. and Julia Strozier Elliott and was a retired Army veteran.
Local survivors include three brothers, Henry Strozier, James Elliott, and Frank Elliott, all of LaGrange; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be this evening at 6:30 p.m. at Swan-Law Funeral Home, at 501 North Cascade Ave., in Colorado Springs, Colo.
