ALLARD

Arthur J. "Al" Allard Jr., 84, of St. Simons Island died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

Allard was born on May 23, 1921, in Parris Island, S.C.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1939. When America went to war in 1941 he volunteered for the 1st Raider Battalion, also known as "Edson's Raiders." Allard fought in the Battle of Tulagi, the first and second battles of the Matanikar and the Battle of Bloody Ridge on Guadalcanal. His awards include the Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal with four Battle Stars and the World War II Victory Medal.

After his retirement in 1985 from Kraft Bag Company in St. Marys, Allard moved to St. Simons Island where he enjoyed golfing with his buddies and get-togethers with the Sandpipers Club.

Allard was preceded in death by his wife, the former Carlotta Haskins of Savannah.

Survivors include his daughters, Holly (Wayne) Thompson of St. Simons Island and Judy (Frank) Marchione of Attleboro, Mass.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick is in charge of arrangements.

A celebration of his life will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 in the home of his daughter, 120 Dunbarton Drive, St. Simons Island.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525 or the American Cancer Society, 3011 Hampton Ave., Brunswick, GA 31520.

FARMER

William H. Farmer, 63, of St. Marys died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at his residence.

A native of Alamance County, N.C., he had resided in Camden County for the past 52 years, and was a retired painter. He attended Boulounge Holiness Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Farmer, and sister, Catherine McCarthy.

Survivors include a son, Alan (Tracy) Farmer of St. Marys; mother, Lelia Farmer of St. Marys; sisters, Cora Lee Harvey of Kingsland, Nancy Horne of St. Marys and Bea Melton of Waycross; brother, Jimmy Farmer of Yulee; grandchildren, Brandon Farmer and Stephen Farmer; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12 at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Andrew Gillis officiating and with military honors.

FARMER

Beryl A. Farmer, 86, of St. Marys died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the Life Care Center of Hilliard after an extended illness.

She had been a life-long resident of St. Marys and was a member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church, The Wesley Sunday School Class and The Susan Wesley Church Circle. She sold Avon for the past 45 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Farmer, and daughter, Betty Jo Farmer Parham.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Jimmy) Coffel of St. Marys; grandchildren, Keith Coffel of St. Marys and Greg (Kim) Coffel of White Oak; and great-grandchild, Taylor Coffel.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 10 at Edo Miller Camden Chapel. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 at St. Marys United Methodist Church in St. Marys, with the Rev. John Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Edo Miller Camden Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

FARMER

Lelia Spikes Farmer, 86, of St. Marys, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus. Born In Berrien County on Dec. 22, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Nancy Rowe and Dan Spikes. Farmer had been a resident of Camden County since 1952 and was retired from Kraft Bag Plant with 29 years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Farmer; son, William Farmer; daughter, Cathrine Farmer McCarthy; and granddaughter, Annette Cooper Previtte.

Funeral services were held at the graveside at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys on Wednesday, May 27 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Andrew Gillis officiating. The family received friends at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys, Tuesday, May 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Farmer (Rhonda) of Yulee, Fla.; sisters, Coralee Harvey (Joseph) of Kingsland, Nancy Horne of St. Marys and Beatrice Melton (Charlton) of Waycross; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

FORTUNY

Christie Fortuny, 43, of St. Marys died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at her residence.

A native of Miami, she had resided in Camden County for the past five years and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son, Brandon Ely Fortuny of St. Marys; daughter, Chasity Walsh of St. Marys; sister, Sheila Estes of Palatka, Fla.; brother, John Ely of Orlando; son-in-law, Michael Gosnell of Jacksonville; niece, KSea Roller; great-niece, Jadelyn Roller; and fiancee, Thomas Dunlap.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

PATEL

Mangubhai Patel, 58, of Kingsland died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center, Camden Campus.

A native of India, he had resided in Camden County for the past year, was a diamond cutter by trade and of the Hindu religion.

Survivors include his wife, Pushpa Patel of Kingsland; parents, Jivan and Dhani Patel of Lawtey, Fla.; daughter, Nita Patel of Manchester, England; son, Pinesh Patel of Kingsland; brothers, Raman Patel and Mohan Patel, both of Detroit, Mich., and Magan Patel of Lawtey; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 13 at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.

KEON

Bonnie Jean Keon, 64, of St. Marys died on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

Keon was a native of Painesville, Ohio, and had lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She had been a resident of Camden County for the past four months.

Keon was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Lee Keon of St. Marys; two daughters, Holly Cote of Wilton, Conn., and Dawn Keon of Campbellsville, Ky.; two brothers, William Sanislow of Orlando, Fla., and Dave Sanislow of Plymouth, Mich.; sister, Karen Patterson of Wayne, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Zachary Cote and Benjamin Cote.

Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29 at St. Marys First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Rick Douylliez officiating.

GRAW

James Herman Graw, 78, of Macclenny, Fla., died on Monday, Nov. 22, 2004.

Graw was a native of Jacksonville, Fla. He had lived in St. Marys before moving to Macclenny in 1988. He was retired from Gilman Paper Company.

Graw was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Lions Club, both of Macclenny.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Christine Graw; sons, Frankie Graw of Odom, Gene Graw of Shelbyville, Ky., and Roger Graw of St. Marys; step-sons, Rickey Cisco and Lester Cisco, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lamar Cisco of Ocala, Fla.; step-daughters, Karen Goss and Faye Walters, both of Deer Lodge, Mont., and Brenda Conner of Macclenny; sister, Billie Bruce of Kingsland; four grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Fraser Funeral Home of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at Emmanuel Baptist Church of Macclenny, with Rev. Jimmy Nevill and Rev. Alvin Miller officiating. Interment followed in Sardis Cemetery in Folkston.

Active pallbearers were Jim Nickles, Steve Kennedy, Jimmy Combs, Marcus Nipper, Tim McKinnon and David Long. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Brown and Dolph Lyons.

HOLLAND

Arnold Edd Holland Sr., 63, of St. Marys died on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 at Camden Medical Center.

The Pierce County native had lived in St. Marys for the past 43 years. He was retired from Gilman Paper Company after 40 years.

Holland was a member of Point Peter Baptist Church, Triple B Riding Club and the Tennessee Walking Horse Association. He loved horses, University of Georgia football and riding across the state of Florida from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico on the Cracker Trail Ride.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Aldridge Holland of St. Marys; a son, Arnold Edd (Vonda Kay) Holland Jr. of St. Marys; a daughter, Michelle (Nick) Jones of St. Marys; a brother in love, Daniel Aldridge and his wife, Martha Jane; three grandchildren, Arnold Edd Holland III, Albert Anthony "Tony" Holland and Alaina Kaylee Holland; and nieces and nephew, Kathy, Joey and Danielle Aldridge.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Ancil Holland.

Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys was in charge of arrangements.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22 at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at First Baptist Church of St. Marys, with Rev. Joe Thigpen, Rev. David London and Rev. Doran Womack officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be the past employees of Gilman Paper Company and Trail Ride Association friends.

Active pallbearers will be John Herrin, Frank Smith, Billy Griner, Joe Peacock, Jules Miller, Tony Langley, Lonnie Gay, Bill Smith, Thomas Wainright and David Gray.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Order of the Eastern Star general aide fund.

HINSON

Curtis Glenn Hinson of Kingsland, died Nov. 23, 2004 at his residence.

Born at Fort Benning, July 27, 1957, Glenn had been a resident of Kingsland for the past 14 years. Glenn served his country in the United States Navy for 12 years where he received many degrees. He was employed with the Civil Service as a shipbuilding specialist for the past 14 years.

He is survived by his father, Malcom Hinson of Knoxville, Tenn.; brothers William Ray Hinson of Kingsland, Jack Baker and Russell Head, both of Columbus; sisters, Vivian DeWhitt of Townsend, Tenn., Brenda Fagg of Knoxville, Tenn., Nancy Ann Smith of Columbus; four nieces and five nephews. Glenn was predeceased by his mother Florence Hinson of Columbus, and a brother Larry Hinson.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 26, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Edo Miller Funeral Home Camden Chapel in Kingsland and Saturday, Nov. 27, from 11 .am. to 1 p.m. at Striffler Hamby Mortuary in Columbus.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Park Hill Cemetery in Columbus with Danny Courtney officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jack Baker, Russell Head, Robin Boyd, Marcus Hinson, Alan Phillips, Billy Hinson, Pat Roig, George Gerlach and Ronnie Sanders.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2311 Herrin St., Brunswick, Ga., 31520.
