Georgianna D. Martin

Jan. 26, 2003

Mrs. Georgianna Daniel Martin, age 44 of Forsyth County died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003.

Mrs. Martin attended and graduated from Dawson County High School. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mae Nanette Daniel and Brother, Robert Joe Daniel.

Survivors include her husband, Randall “Hotrod” Martin of Cumming; children, Randall Heath Martin and Georgia Dillon Martin, both of Cumming; mother, Barbara Jo Townsend Daniel of Dawsonville; father, George R. Daniel; brother and sister-in-law, Clifton and Michelle Daniel of Dawsonville; half brother, Robbie Daniel of Cumming; half sister, Dena Daniel of Cumming; maternal grandmother, Dessie S. Townsend of Dawsonville; paternal grandmother, Lillie Mae Daniel of Dawsonville; mother-in-law, Geneva Hammond of Cumming; numerous in laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jack Biddy, Danny Ray Martin and Ruel Martin officiating. Interment will be held at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family received friends Monday evening and all day Tuesday. Ingram Funeral Home, Cumming, handled arrangements.

Russell Brown

July 21, 1921 - Jan. 24, 2003

Russell Brown, 81, of Dawsonville died Friday Jan. 24, 2003 at Lanier Park Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born in Lumpkin County, he lived most of his life in Dawson County. Mr. Brown spent his working years doing construction and sawmill work. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Brown; son, Randy Brown; parents, George and Emily Brown; two grandsons and a great granddaughter.

Survivors include children, Melvin “Red” Brown and David Brown, and Winifred “Winky” Brown, all of Dawsonville, and Roger Brown and Jamie Brown, both of Dahlonega; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday Jan. 27, 2003 at New Life Church of God. with Rev. Mike Owens officiating. Interment was held at the church cemetery.

The family received friends Saturday at the funeral home. Bearden Funeral Home, Dawsonville, handled arrangements.

Annie Collins

July 28, 1906 - Jan. 24, 2003

Annie Collins, 96, of Dawsonville died Friday Jan. 24, 2003 at Willow Wood Nursing Center following a period of declining health.

A lifelong resident of Dawson County, Mrs. Collins was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Collins and her parents, Frank and Emma Gregory.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Mildred and Rex Grogan of Cornelia; sister, Ethel Jenkins of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Vic and Allison Grogan and Jo Anne and Tony Addis; great-grandchildren, Ansley Gambrell, Kayla Grogan, Amanda Grogan, Toby Addis, Jamie Addis; great-great-granddaughter, Madison Shirley.

Funeral services were held Sunday Jan. 26, 2003 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating. Interment was held at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends Saturday at the funeral home. Bearden Funeral Home, Dawsonville, handled arrangements.

Daisy D. Lance

July 20, 1916 - Jan. 20, 2003

Daisy D. Lance, 86, passed away Jan. 20, 2003 in Homer, La.

She was born to the late Sam and Samantha Richards Reed, Dawson County farmers. She married Ralph W. Lance on Dec. 16, 1934 and became a licensed minister in 1946. She and Ralph were both ministers in the Church of God of Prophecy. They moved from Georgia to Colorado in 1950, to pastor a church in Colorado Springs. They moved to Fremont County in 1954 for the first time. They also held pastorates in New Jersey, West Virginia, and Georgia besides doing evangelistic work in many other states. The home of reference remained Fremont County were she resided from 1967 until 2001, when she moved to Homer, La.

She is survived by her children and spouses; Eva Jensen of Canon City, Colo., Ralph E. and Gretchen Lance of Homer, La., Cricket and Dick Daugherty of Colorado Springs, Colo., Carolyn and Ray Trosper of Mesa, Ariz., Joyce and Joel Harvey of Anticoch, Tenn., and daughter in law, Alberta Lance of Pueblo, Colo.; 24 granchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband Ralph; a son, Grady Lance; and two grandchildren, Lynda Daugherty and Baby Lance.

Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at Holt Family Funeral Home. Funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 at The Church of God of Prephecy in Florence, Colo., Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery.

Holt Family Funeral Home, Canon City, Colo., handled arrangements.

Jerald Dean P. Payne

April 5, 1932 - Jan. 21, 2003

Mrs. Jerald Dean Plott Payne, 70, of Dawsonville, formerly of Union County, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003 in North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell.

Mrs. Payne was a native of Union County and was born April 5, 1932, a daughter of the late Charles Plott and Belle Chambers Plott. She had been a secretary in a manufacturing business. Mrs. Payne was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Blairsville.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, J. P. Payne of Dawsonville; five children, Charles Payne of Lawrenceville, Carson Payne of Lilburn, Shannon Smith of Conyers, Sherry Coberly of Lilburn, and Lisa Anderson of Lawrenceville; sister, Carolyn Taylor Tomason of Snellville; 10 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with the Revs. Horace Potts and Ray Potts officiating. Special music was presented by The Faith Singers. Interment was held at Mt. Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Fannin County.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville handled arrangements.

‘Doc’ Bearden

Aug. 12, 1933 - Jan. 20, 2003

Herman L. “Doc” Bearden, 69, of Dawsonville died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003 at the Gold City Community Living Center in Dahlonega following an extended illness.

Born in Dawson County, he lived here most of his life. A farmer for most of his life, he worked at Bent Tree until his retirement. Mr. Bearden was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Bevelene Bearden and a brother, Johnny “Pee Wee” Bearden.

Survivors include his wife, Lamour S. Bearden of Dawsonville; sons and daughters in law, Ronald and Dolores Bearden of Dahlonega and Donald and Denise Bearden of Dawsonville; sisters, Velvie Davis of Dahlonega and Monnie Adams of Canton; brother Dorsey Bearden of Dawsonville; sister in law, Rudene Bearden of Dawsonville, grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Bearden and Christopher Bearden and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 2003 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joel Embry officiating. Interment was held at the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to, United Hospice, 700 South Enota, St., Suite 202, Gainesville, Ga 30501.

Ruby Collins Pirkle

Died April 4, 2003

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville for Mrs. Ruby Collins Pirkle, age 86, of Lula.

The Rev. Daryl Womack, the Rev. James Duncan and the Rev. Paul Morris presided.

Burial was in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Pirkle died Friday, April 4, 2003, following a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Pirkle, a World War II veteran, Hall County commissioner and businessman in Lula, and her father and mother, Virgil C. and Minnie Henson Collins.

Mrs. Pirkle became a Christian at 11 years old and remained active in the Baptist church throughout her lifetime. She will be missed by her church family at First Baptist Church, Lula.

This teacher of teachers and young people served in the education profession for 66 years.

Mrs. Pirkle graduated from Young Harris College in 1935.

At the age of 19, she was appointed principal and teacher at the two-room Friendship School in Cleveland in the fall of 1935.

She then taught at Nachoochee and Clarkesville high schools before graduating from Piedmont College in Demorest with degrees in math and English.

After graduation, she taught high school math in Hall County (Sardis High) and White County High School, Cleveland. In 1945, Mrs. Pirkle and her husband, Clyde, moved to Lula, where she taught math at Lula High until 1957.

She then began teaching at the newly consolidated East Hall High School and remained there for the next 26 years. She officially retired in June 1983.

Following her retirement, she continued teaching as a substitute teacher for the next 18 years.

During her tenure at East Hall High, she was STAR teacher six times and was Hall County’s Teacher of the Year twice. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Clyde E. Pirkle Jr. and Helen Pritchett Pirkle, Gainesville; grandson and wife, Andrew and Jennifer Pirkle, Gainesville; granddaughter, Anna Pirkle, Seattle; grandchildren, Jordan and Sumner Pirkle; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Sallie Mae Collins and Howard and Anita Collins; sister-in-law, Mrs. Buell Pirkle; nephew Gordon Pirkle, Dawsonville, and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Ruby Collins Pirkle East Hall High School Scholarship Fund, addressed to East Hall High School, 3534 East Hall Road, Gainesville, GA 30507; or North Georgia Community Foundation, 615-F Oak St., Gainesville, GA 30501.

Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, had charge of the funeral arrangements.

Dolores O. Colbert

Died April 2, 2003

Dolores O. Colbert, age 60, of Gainesville, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003.

She is predeceased by her father Doy Ott who sang baritone for the Statesmen Gospel Quartet and her mother, Joyce Ott.

She is survived by her husband, John L. Colbert; daughter, Linda Tedford of Collierville, Tenn.; son, Robert M. Childers of Dawsonville; brother, Joe W. Ott of Florida; Doy W. Ott, Jr. of Marietta; grandchildren, Gina M. Childers, Kelli A. Childers, Holly L. Tedford, Kimberly P. Tedford, Amy K. Tedford.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4 in the chapel of Roswell Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Willard E. Beavers

May 8, 1931- March 24, 2003

Willard E. Beavers, 71, of Dawsonville died Monday March 24 at his residence following a sudden illness.

A native of Copperhill, TN, he lived in Dawson County for six years after moving here from Atlanta. Mr. Beavers was a retired clerk with the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta with over 25 years of service.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy C. Beavers and a grandson, Kenneth J. Dix, Jr.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Pearl Dix of Dawsonville; sister, Pansy Daniels of Jefferson City, Tenn.; grandchildren, John Neal Dix, Tammy Denise Seay, Carol Weathers, Wayne Weathers; nine great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 27 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lee Ayers officiating. Interment was held in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

Jerry Chester

June 18, 1947 - June 13, 2003

Jerry Chester, 55, of Dahlonega died Friday June 13, 2003 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following a short illness.

A lifelong resident of Dawson County, he and his wife owned and operated a poultry farm. Mr. Chester was preceded in death by his father, L.B. Chester and brothers, Jackie Chester and Scotty Chester.

Survivors include, wife, Mary Chester of Dahlonega; daughters and sons in law, Anita and Dale Cain, Tina and Scot Harper, all of Dahlonega; mother, Susie Lee Chester of Dahlonega; sisters, Carolyn Massey of Jasper, Belinda Lowe of Jasper, Renee Chester of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Joshua Harper, Ashley Cain, Dylan Cain; special niece, Chelsey Chester; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held June 16 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Jimmy Chester and David Wright presided. Interment in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Charldine Chester

June 20, 1942 - June 15, 2003

Charldine Chester, 60, of Dawsonville died Sunday, June 15, 2003 at her residence following a sudden illness.

Born in Fannin County, she lived most of her life in Dawson County. Chester was employed at Sweet Orr for a number of years and was currently employed at Liz Claiborne. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Mae Green.

Survivors include, her husband, Clinton Chester of Dawsonville; daughters, Becky Gorski of Dawsonville and Samantha Jones of Gainesville; stepson, Mike Chester of Dahlonega; sister, Hattie Green of Dawsonville; brother, Bud Green of Florida; grandchildren, Katelyn Gorski, Alexander Gorski, Amelia Gorski, Mack Jones; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held June 17, at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Glen Byrd and Duane Lowman presided. Interment in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.
