James Hall

James Oliver Hall, 92, of 1050 Petersburg Road in Elberton died May 22, 2002, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
A native of Wilkes County, he was a son of the late Olin Pendleton Hall and Connie Rathbond Hall. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elberton, the Camp Harmony Dixie Drifters and the Ramlin Rockers. He was a retired weave room supervisor of United Merchants. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Elizabeth Andrews Hall; a sister, Edna Hall Albea; and a brother, Grady Hall.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Tommy Rousey of Elberton; three sisters, Lila Hall Campbell of Augusta, Ruth Hall Albea of Martinez and Bernice Hall Somack of Miami Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held Friday at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Elberton with the Rev. David Hughes and the Rev. Carroll Andrews officiating. Memorials may be made to the Elberton Christian Church CTV Fund, P.O. Box 382, Elberton, GA 30635.
Pallbearers were Carey Butler, Carl Butler, Barney Smith, Curtis Hall, Ray Hall and Jimmy Campbell.
Berry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clemon Rucker

Clemon Rucker, 58, died May 22, 2002.
A native of Elbert County, he was a son of the late Jake Rucker and Ethelene Burton Rucker.
Survivors include two sisters, Susanna White of Elberton and Janie Mae Moon of Chicago, Ill.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. H.T. Butler officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
C.W. Phelps Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Loretta Williams

Loretta Williams, 47, of 1837 Morning Glory Drive in Elberton died May 24, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
A native of Elbert County, she was a daughter of James Ernest "Jimmy" Williams and Shirley Lovin Williams of Elberton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elberton.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Missy Williams and Mitch and Rhonda Williams, all of Elberton; and three nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Bobby McAllister, Anthony Hufstetler, Wayne Lovin, Bruce Lovin, Ricky Johnson and Barry Fleming.
Berry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cornelia Alexander

Cornelia Louise Alexander, 75, of 3313 Ruckersville Road in Elberton died May 25, 2002, at her home.
A daughter of Alton Charping and Ada Mae Bailey Charping, she was a homemaker and a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Amos G. Alexander of Elberton; two sons, Danny Alexander and James Alexander, both of Elberton; three daughters, Hazel Canon of Bowersville, Carolyn McRooney of Williamston, S.C., and Dorothy Sloan of Asheville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at New Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nancy Morgan and the Rev. Albert Askew officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Dunn, Raymond Bass, Tim Case, Chad Cannon, Kyle Alexander and Derek Thomason.
Hicks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Janice Meares

Janice Adams Meares, 83, of Largo, Fla., died May 18, 2002, at Morton Plant Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Elbert County, she was a homemaker and of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Edward Meares of Largo, Fla.; a son, Edward Meares Jr. of Tujunga, Calif.; a brother, Herman Adams of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Bess Hall of Dewy Rose; and two grandchildren.
The National Cremation Society in Clearwater, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. George Adair

Dr. George T. Adair, 100, of Cleveland died May 25, 2002, at his home.
A native of Elberton, he was a son of the late Dr. S.B. Adair and Gussie Thornton Adair. He was a graduate of Gibson-Mercer Academy, the University of Georgia and the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. After beginning a veterinary practice in Elberton, he moved to White County in 1937. He was instrumental in the founding of the White County Farmers Exchange and the White County Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Sewell Wallis Adair.
Survivors include a niece and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday at the chapel of Alexander's Gateway Chapel Funeral Home in Cleveland with the Rev. Leland Bagwell and the Rev. Ross Sparks officiating. Burial was in the Bowman City Cemetery.

Allie Seymour

Allie B. Seymour, 87, of Anderson, S.C., died May 24, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
A native of Elbert County, she was a daughter of the late Crawford Vaughn and Mary Ann Ayers Vaughn. She was retired from Wamsutta Mills. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class, the Tuesday Morning Bible Study and Prayer Group and the Joanna Rachel Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd B. Seymour; a brother, Lester Vaughn; and four sisters, Inez Burden, Annie Lou Beasley, Etta Rousey and Lessie Maxwell.
Survivors include two sons, Wendell Seymour of Powder Springs and Sandy Seymour of Charleston, S.C.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. David Bailey officiating. Burial was in New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson, S.C.
The McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson, S.C., was in charge of arrangements.

Eddie Mickel

Edna Lenora "Eddie" Montford Mickel, 80, of 651 Rhodes Drive in Elberton died May 22, 2002, at Spring Valley Health Care Center.
A native of Dublin, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Carolyn Montford. She was a homemaker, a member of the Salvation Army and a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church. She was a former member of the Pilot Club of Elberton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Carey Alston Mickel Jr., and a daughter, Diane M. Harrison.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Carey A. Mickel III and Nancy Mickel of Hartwell; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at St. Alban's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Herschel R. Atkinson and Doug Williams officiating. Burial was in Elmhurst Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dr. Jack Wheeler, Bernard Stringer, Bob Lee, John Heard, Hoppy Boyd, Jim Boyd and Charles Grimes.
Hicks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

J.P. Dickerson

J.P. Dickerson, 80, of Gaston, S.C., died Sept. 29, 2002, at Lexington Medical Extended Care in Lexington, S.C.
A native of Elbert County, he was a son of the late Jimmie Moses and Clara Belle Moon Dickerson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic and a former employee of Parker Hill Pipeline. He was a former resident of Elbert County and a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James E. Dickerson and the Rev. Ralph Dickerson.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Human Dickerson of Gaston, S.C.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Dickerson Scoggins and Marlow Scoggins of Dewy Rose, Sherry Dickerson Scoggins and Billy Ray Scoggins of Dewy Rose and Linda Dickerson Dunlap and Larry Dunlap of Lexington, S.C.,; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joel Dickerson and Karen Maxwell Dickerson of Gaston, S.C., and Randy Dickerson and Sandy McCloud Dickerson of Cayce, S.C.; a sister, Ida Ruth Dickerson Kidd of Bowman; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Deep Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Adams and Dan Bailey officiating. Flowers are optional and may be sent to Deep Creek Baptist Church prior to the service.
The family will be at the home of Shane and Angela Scoggins at 2974 Deep Creek Road in Bowman.

Grady Wheelis Jr.

Grady William Wheelis Jr., 75, of 1879 Athens Highway in Elberton died Sept. 27, 2002, at his home.
A native of Orlando, Fla., he was a son of the late Grady William Wheelis Sr. and Mozelle Frost Wheelis. He had lived most of his life in Elbert County and was a retired electrician. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Doves Creek Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday school class.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Cannon Wheelis of the home; a son, Guy William "Bill" Wheelis of Snellville; three daughters, Delores Yohler of Alpharetta, Vicky Boswell of Lawrenceville and Lisa O'Mahony of Duluth; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Doves Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Findley III and Dr. Marshall Tribble officiating. Burial was in Elmhurst Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy Neal, Dorris Snellings, Russell Butler, Ray Yeargin, Norris Anderson and Bennie McWhorter. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fellowship Sunday school class and Kelsey Haralson.
Hicks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
