Ralph Scott

Ralph Daniel Scott, 79, of Hartwell died April 22, 2003, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
A native of Hart County, he was a son of the late Mack Daniel Scott and Ina Irene Wilson Scott. He was retired from the City of Hartwell Fire Department with 34 years of service as a firefighter. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Shoemaker Scott of the home; a son, Sam Scott of Hartwell; two stepdaughters, Donna Dutton of Resaca and Rhonda Lynn Freeman of Cleveland, Tenn.; a sister, Joann Saylors of Hartwell; six step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Friday at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell with the Rev. Steve Bynum officiating. Burial was in Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Spring Valley Health Care Center, 651 Rhodes Drive, Elberton, GA 30635.
Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell was in charge of arrangements.

Russell Wade

Russell Wade, 75, of Hartwell died April 26, 2003, at his home.
A native of Fulton County, he was a son of the late Roy Wade and Evelyn Hardy Wade. He was retired from Teamsters Trucking with 21 years of service and operated the Hart County Cannery for 10 years. He was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church, where he played guitar. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Pruitt Wade of the home; a son, David Russell Wade of Loganville; three daughters, Teresa W. Johnson of Smyrna, Donna W. Herndon of Coker Creek, Tenn., and Peggy W. Grantham of Hartwell; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at Abundant Life Baptist Church with the Revs. Ted Kelley, Terry Meeks and John David Maugram officiating.
Memorials may be made to VistaCare Hospice, 767 Oglethorpe Ave., Athens, GA 30606.
Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell was in charge of arrangements.

James Smith

James Robert "Snuffy" Smith, 51, of Royston died April 25, 2003, at his home.
A native of Franklin County, he was a son of Robert M. and Lattrell Beatenbough Smith of Royston. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was a member of a helicopter crew as a door gunner and rescue person. He attended Mill Shoal Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Fay Teade Smith, and a sister, Martha Jean Smith.
Funeral services were held Monday at Pruitt Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Randy Smith officiating. Burial was in Oakview Cemetery in Canon.
Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston was in charge of arrangements.

Parks Little

Bonnie Parks Little, 66, of Bowersville died Sept. 28, 2003, at his home.
A native of Hart County, he was a son of the late Bonnie and Mary McGarity Little. He was a retired district manager for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Athens Daily News and Anderson Independent. He was a member of Old Canon Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Mackey Little of Bowersville; a daughter, Connie Berryman of Elberton; a sister, Hazel Carlton of Canon; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Eldon Massey officiating. Burial will be in Bowers Memorial Gardens.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Old Canon Baptist Church, c/o Helen Chatham, 1066 Old Canon Baptist Church Road, Bowersville, GA 30516.
The family will be at the home of Hazel Carlton at 447 Beaverdam Farm Road in Canon.

Jean Reece

Earlie Mae "Jean" Long Reece, 67, of 2634 Hulmes Chapel Road in Elberton died Sept. 24, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn.
A native of Alabama, she was a daughter of Virgil Long and the late Estelle Bouzer Long. She was a member of Middleton United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors, in addition to her father, include her husband, James Reece Sr. of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Regina and Lee Oliver and Debbie Renee and Roger Steele, all of Ocoee, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lori Reece of Elberton; three sisters, Wanda, Barbara and Bonnie; two brothers, Don Long and David Long, both of Chattanooga, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Middleton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alvin Taylor officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Randy Blackburn, Randy Calhoun, Roger Steele, Mike Reece, Lee Oliver, Jimmy Lunsford and Timmy Russell.
Berry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Peyton Mize Sr.

Peyton Hammond Mize Sr., 81, of Hartwell died Sept. 26, 2003.
A native of Elbert County, he was a son of the late Robert Wilford Mize Sr. and Mozelle Hammond Mize. He was a member of Doves Creek Baptist Church and was retired from the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of World War II and served during the invasion of Normandy. He was an honorary member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by a son, Hammond Mize Jr., and a brother, Bob Mize.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Peggy Joyce Mosley Mize; two daughters, Aniza Shell and Linda Mize, both of Hartwell; a son, Robert Mize of Atlanta; a brother, Charles Mize of Augusta; and a grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Sayer officiating. Burial was in Doves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Boswell, Charlie Brown, Steve Childs, Robert Mize III, Gene Anderson, Van McGarity, Joe Deadwyler and Harry Shell.
Berry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Carrie Rucker

Carrie Julia Rucker, 64, of Elberton died Sept. 19,2 003, at Hart County Hospital.
A native of McCormick, S.C., she was a daughter of the late L.M. Mills and Lucy Tate Mills.
Survivors include a son, Ivery Lee Johnson of Atlanta; three daughters, Alice Rucker and Janice Johnson of Bowman and Vicky Huff of Dewy Rose; two sisters, Marie Green of Detroit, Mich., and Rose Bell of Lionsville, S.C.; and a brother, Buddy Mills of Abbeville, S.C.
Memorial services were held Friday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Mac Hughes officiating.
C.W. Phelps Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lena Pass

Lena Agnus Smith Pass, 89, of 1192 Country Club Road in Elberton died Sept. 25, 2003.
A native of Oglethorpe County, she was a daughter of the late John Lee Smith and Lena Jane Glenn Smith. She was a member of Millstone Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Carl Ann Ouzts of Elberton; two sisters, Judy Kelley of Athens and Peggy Foster of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, O'Neal Smith of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Revs. Russell Bruce and Bill Eaton officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Elberton Christian Church and Millstone Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Daniel Ouzts, Clay Ouzts, Landon Ouzts, Harold Kelley, Bill Wall, Rob Desso, John Rayle, Phil Smith and Bill Holloman.
Berry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Nora Seymour

Nora Helen Rice Seymour, 91, of Marietta, died Sept. 24, 2003, at her home.
A native of Hart County, she was a daughter of the late William R. and Lucettie Arsena McCurry Rice. She was a retired secretary for American Cyanamid in Atlanta and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church in Bowman. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Ruth Rice of Bowman; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Seymour officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
Hicks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
